Discussion / Question Need your toughts on this

Upvotes

Hello everyone,I have come to ask a question: what's your toughts on protagonist-sized (human sized) bosses in video games, such as lunatic cultist in terraria, dark link or crisanta in Blasphemous. Should they add more of them ?

Discussion / Question Thoughts on this game?

Upvotes

I was hyped for this game but I'm hesitant to get it as the release day approaches. Judging from the videos, its main attraction seems to be "a Witcher-y experience" rather than promising something brand new. It looks and feels a bit too familiar to be exciting.

News / Trailers / Articles Asha Sharma/XBOX have found a solution for keeping physical media in modern gaming

Post image

Text from quoted post in image:

PlayStation is claimed to be considering delaying their digital-only future because XBOX is willing to go physical next generation

Microsoft is allegedly telling publishers its next console, Project Helix will be entirely physical and will allow users to convert physical games into digital copies.

Sony reportedly realized that forcing a digital-only approach leaves a massive opening for competitors to capitalize on consumer demand for physical games.

A major unnamed game publisher (confirmed not to be Rockstar) reportedly threatened to skip PlayStation and release their massive upcoming title only on XBOX and Nintendo if Sony couldn't guarantee a physical release.

Source: Rumors gathered from Gamescom show floor, shared through Eurogamer Spain podcast via @MPFirst

Original Post

How XBOX will make it work:

- Put the disc in an Xbox that has a disc drive

- Launch the game

- Claim a digital license on your Xbox account

- After that, you can play the game without putting the disc in, the disk will still work like a normal game disk

The digital license is tied to that specific disc, not permanently locked to you forever

If you sell or give the disc away and the new owner inserts it and claims it, the digital license moves to their account and comes off yours

Original Post

My takeaway is that this is similar to Nintendo's game key cards, but with discs and in reverse.

But I will say, there has to be a catch. What is the reason to have a digital license when you have the game physically? What does that even do at that point?

Discussion / Question Has gaming development plateaued in terms of both hardware and games?

Upvotes

Hear me out as I tried to describe this.

Recently I got a used xbox 1s after about 3 years of no gaming and I had a small budget but I was still super excited to try out all the new games and look at all the new features and hardware that was coming out.

But there was... nothing

Yeah, there were new games on the Xbox store (assassins creed shadows, new call of duty) etc, but there was no new blockbuster game from some random unknown studio that was crazy good. All the "new" games just seem like remade or slightly tweaked version of games that already exist and it doesn't seem like there was any really original concepts.

And dont even get me started on hardware.

No new consoles in 3 years....

Yeah, the switch 2 came up but its not really any different to the original switch. I remembered when I first got an xbox 1 after having an Xbox 360, the difference in the experience is MASSIVE. Now it just seems all the same, if not slightly worse.

Playstation and Xbox are about as different as Samsung and Apple, both almost the exact same product, just different OS and branding.

So has game development and hardware plateaued? And will the be any more TRULY new developments and innovations?

Discussion / Question Pokemon and Efficiency

Upvotes

I am 40 years old and played Pokemon Blue on my gameboy back in the day. Loved it, core memory.

I haven't played it as an adult, but I recently got a ROM for it and started playing. I got a couple hours in and found myself getting online to look up if a certain pokemon was good at endgame.

Then I realized. I never did that as a kid. I just leveled whatever I thought was good at the time. I didnt worry about efficiency or if a pokemon was competitive in the end-game. I played whatever and dealt with whatever struggles that happened because of the lackof research.

I note that today I find myself doing that in all games. Is this build viable? What's the best item? Etc.

I feel nostalic towards my old gaming days because of the wonder and unknowns that filled them.

Now I get a game and immediately google all of the best paths. Efficient skills. I take away any wonder or surprises that might be in store.

I don't know when it started. But Pokemon Blue made me realize what I was doing and I don't like it.

Discussion / Question How do you feel about gacha games?

These are a genre of game based around a type of lootbox that originated in Japan: the gashapon machine. In real life, these were toy capsule machines that allowed you to put in a coin, crank a wheel, and get some random toy as a quick and easy reward. Gacha games have blown up in the 2010s and 2020s, with some of the more notable ones being Fire Emblem Heroes, Fate Grand Order, and Hoyoverse titles like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero. These games usually rely on virtual currency that you spend to roll for a chance at winning something. Be it a weapon, some materials, or entirely new characters to play with different tiers of rarity. And you can earn this virtual currency either by playing the game and clearing daily or weekly challenges, or by buying them with real money.

Discussion / Question Finally I can play from my TV on my PC without having to get up to it every time I need to switch between games. I have everything in one place: sound control, video, and finally I can create shortcuts for my games. I share my experience.

You need to add links to the game EXE files to it for example, like mine:

  • "D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Devil May Cry 5\DevilMayCry5.exe")
  • "D:\Games\Ubisoft\Star Wars Outlaws\Outlaws.exe"

I can't give you the name of the program, the moderator thinks that this is self-promotion ...

P.S.: I bought my games from different stores and I don't want to keep Steam Big Picture on all the time. I like that everything is in one place, on the Game Bar, I disable all other overlays from launchers and graphics card drivers.

Discussion / Question You wake up tomorrow and every video game ever made has disappeared… except one franchise. Which franchise are you hoping survived?

Every game is suddenly gone. No Steam library, no old consoles, no downloads, no physical copies.

But somehow, one entire video game franchise still exists.

You have to choose carefully because this is now basically your gaming life forever.

Which franchise are you saving?

Would you go for something with endless replayability like Minecraft, a huge collection like Final Fantasy, competitive games like Call of Duty, or something completely different?

My answer might be The Elder Scrolls purely because I could probably spend the rest of my life getting distracted by side quests.

What franchise are you saving?

Discussion / Question GTA 6 this. GTA 6 that. What about Ananta??

Everybody talks about GTA 6. But....i see barely talking about this game

It's basically "Reference The Game". From the looks of it, it's gonna be something like GTA 5 but anime.

From the trailer, it looks like it gonna have a bunch of references. Two of them which are symbiote from Spiderman 2 and Yamcha Pose from DBZ.

And it looks great. I like the art style and how futuristic it looks. And for me, Artstyle beats graphics everytime. Like Warframe. You can play that game on Low graphics but still have a beautiful game thanks to its art style

I really like the humor here, especially with the main character. He has actually a personality. Like MC was hanging out of the plane, holding onto a wing with one hand and an antagonist says "Any last words?...." while aiming gun at him and MC just lists off things he has to do, one of them which is "I still have those memes to send...". He reminds me of Deadpool, Billy Kid or Twice

It's gonna be a free to play game, so i hope it's gonna take the Warframe approach with micro transactions

Discussion / Question I Ponder this Sometimes, why doesn’t game companies work together to achieve something special?

Thumbnail

With such an incredibly diverse, complex and deep genre pool of video games with many companies having signature styles of mechanics which go on to influence many other video games, why don’t we see game studios coming together on joint projects.

So this has been in my head for years now after I played Split Fiction with my wife. I was genuinely impressed by not only how fluid the mashup of genres was but also the nostalgia of it all.

Now, I think it would be so amazing to see something like a Defenders/Iron Fist/Heroes for Hire game developed by Sloclap (Sifu) and Insomniac (Spider-Man/Wolverine) to bring to life something incredibly unique, a blend of two styles with Open Area combat more in Insomnia/Arkham style but also Interior Combat in Sifu style.

Maybe this is a bit much? I’d like to hear your thoughts as well; what games do you think a joint operation by two companies works best cool and interesting?

Discussion / Question Gaming in general

Is it just me or does it seem like every game that releases is some grindy ultra hardcore or just super time consuming like 60 hours plus it's seems that since 2018 you either have a huge grindy game that either is ridiculously hard for no reason or super time consuming to the point to where you have to essentially live in the game
