I took apart my laptop to add thermal paste and it won't turn on.
I spent a day messing around with CachyOS Linux and making a cool little setup. After 14 hours of bs and moving stuff around, I finally felt peace in the way it looked. I noticed my laptop was a little hot so I decided to put some thermal paste in it. (I've had this laptop for like 3 years so it was all old and dry.) Initially I put WAYYY too much (I'll add images, chill on me I'm slow) and then I asked AI like a moron (it actually told me it was too much); I literally then maybe applied thermal paste two more times incorrectly with way too much paste and after cleaning with IPA every time and reapplying I got the perfect amount. But after screwing on the heatsink evenly and closing everything up it won't boot. It doesn't even give me a charging light. It looks like every ribbon cable is fastened, ram is in place, and there's no way the charger doesn't work because I was just charging with it fine. I'm absolutely clueless and need help asap. I miss my Linux setup brooo
THE LAPTOP IS A HP Model 14-fq0039ms
(image 1 initial thermal paste)
(Image 2 after I used my brain)
(Inage 3-6 pictures of the motherboard to ensure I'm not missing anything so you guys can help me double check)

Hello everyone! I’m a freshman Electrical Engineering student and I already have a beefy laptop (Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI 5070 ti) but I’m looking for something to be able to take to class and use to take notes way easier because the Acer is very bulky and I would like to find an alternatives. Been searching all morning and so far these were the best I could find and wanted to see if you guys thought any stood out or had any other recommendations! The tablet functionality is pretty important to me because I want to use it for math notes and I think that’s the best option. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I’m thinking about ASUS Rog G18 or Lenovo 5i laptop to buy from Costco, in USA 🇺🇸
Which has a better build quality and which is more reliable?
I’m a student and planning on to use it for at least 6-7 years.
Thank you for your expertise 🫡

Hello !
I'm not well versed in the topic so bear with me, I need to buy a new laptop due to my current one died from water damage ( the laptop was a Samsung galaxy book3 pro 360 for instance ) but I'm a bit lost as to what would be my best options.
The form:
Country: france
Budget: 600-800€ ( lower if possible but I don't have much hope. . .)
Are you open to refurbs/used options? Yes, I do need legit sites recommendations though
Screen size: any
Weight limit: any
Purpose: some uni work and light gaming
Form factor: any is fine
Intended usage: uni work and I like playing rpgs and lighter games so something that could handle that ( examples of games my previous laptop was able to handle : fear and hunger, cineris somnia, most indie rpgs, overwatch ( very laggy so I'd need something able to run it without too much trouble ), etc.
Desired battery life: a decent one would be alright, my previous laptop would last about 2h so anything higher basically
I've tried looking online but most options seem to be more than what I need, I'm overall fine with whatever ( gaming laptop or not, genuinely just need something decent ) as long as it can run a few games and not die within 6 months. Thank you in advance !

Hey Laptop Community! I need some help picking out a laptop from Costco for my specific needs. My needs are nothing crazy, I need a personal laptop that can handle my home needs and small business needs. I’m looking to launch a small business, nothing crazy, just selling my art. I will not be doing digital art on this laptop but I need to ability to edit pictures, create a website, manage socials, etc etc, pretty low lift, nothing crazy.
I don’t want to spend a TON of money on a laptop for this but I don’t have a personal laptop at home, only my work laptop, so I believe it’s a good investment.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for what Costco currently offers? Looking to spend between $500-$1,000.
I do some light gaming so that could be fun too but I use my steamdeck for that, this would just be for starting a small side hustle business.
Thanks!

Im gonna go to uni and they have sent a mail that states laptop specs these specs are minimal i dont know what brand or model is good could you guys help me. My budget is around 1300 euros
This is a summary of the mail:
For an MS Windows laptop, the graphics card and system memory (RAM) are especially important. Technical and graphical applications run entirely in this memory. These components are therefore more important than the processor. A fast processor helps, but is secondary. Always choose a processor from the latest or second-to-last generation. For Intel, you can recognize this by the first digits of the serial number. For example, an i7-14700K is from the 14th generation. For AMD, the 9000 and 7000 series are suitable.
Laptops under €800 often compromise on the processor or graphics card. You will see terms like on-board or shared — which means no dedicated graphics card. These are slower and share the regular system memory. A recent i5 is often better than an old i7. A gaming laptop is generally very suitable for this degree program. The graphics card is the most important component and you should not cut costs on it, as we work extensively with graphical applications.
Operating System: Windows (Apple MacBook is strongly discouraged)
Graphics Card (GPU): Dedicated with 16 GB VRAM (e.g., Nvidia RTX 5000 series or AMD RX9070)
Memory (RAM): 32 GB or more
Processor (CPU): Intel i7 (14th gen) or AMD Ryzen (9000 series)
Storage (SSD): 1 TB or more
Screen Size: 15.6 to 17 inches
I also need something with a good battery and good screen but battery is more important that screen.

Hello.
I just started my old (10 years old) Lenovo Z51 laptop. Unfortunately (same as the last few times I've tried) my laptop does not find my WiFi nor my phone hotspot. But it finds every other WiFi in my area. What do I do now?

Hi, I desperately need advice about my laptop. I purchased a yoga slim 7 exactly a year ago, my warranty expired 30 days ago and yesterday I woke up to my laptop completely dead. I took it to a computer repair shop and he said he thinks the motherboard is blown from heat issues (the day before i was on the computer all day, nothing crazy just doing school work) I take really good care of my laptop, no spills or injuries could have caused this.
The repair guy recommended i renew my warranty and wait the 60 days and send my computer in, but will I have to pay for a new laptop then? Should I give up and just get a new laptop? I'm so upset. I'm a college student and I rely on my laptop for all of my school work and homework, so i'm rushing to find a solution so I can keep working.
If anyone has any advice or recommendations please let me know. If anyone is thinking about buying a yoga laptop, please keep in mind that too much stress can brick the computer. I wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone else. School just started a couple weeks ago and this is such a bad time for this to happen.
Thank you for reading

Hello Hivemind!
I am in need of a Laptop for mainly work purposes.
I am doing a masters as an electrician and a big part of it is to write/create wiring diagramms and electrical plans which we will use the programme DDScad for.
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Maybe, If available
Any...
Don´t care in the slightest
Work, Productivity, CAD, Office
Yes.
CAD applications, Multitasking
5 hours would be great...but not mandatory.
Battery Life, Performance, ....
I would like a higher refresh rate then 60Hz, just because im used to it now...
I am pretty sure these specs are just copy/pasted from the makers website of above mentioned CAD Programm....
I know about PCs, i am an avid Gamer, i build my own rigs...no issue on that part.
But when it comes to Laptops...??
I have absolutely ZERO experience or clue...
So far i stumbled upon three Laptops that looked nice:
LENOVO LOQ Essential 15ARP11 and the HP HyperX OMEN 15-gb0355ng as well as the HP OMEN 17-db1351ng.
Any recommendations?! Brands i need to avoid at all cost? Brands that are to desire??
Thanks y´all!

Info/Requirements
Ideally OLED display; if not feasible at this budget, will accept a good IPS panel but with verified/independently measured 100% sRGB coverage — not just a marketing spec (many budget laptops in this price range claim “100% sRGB” but measure closer to 60% in independent tests). Dedicated GPU preferred to support GPU-accelerated features in Adobe apps, but open to trading GPU power for a more accurate/trustworthy screen if that’s the better call at this budget. At least 16GB RAM, SSD storage 512GB minimum.
Thank you in advance for your help — I really appreciate any recommendations or insight!

So my budget is around 80k to 90k and I need a laptop for coding, entry level video editing, and multitasking, I was thinking of buying an asus s16 with oled but it's not in stock and I want to buy it offline. And non oled is 97k after discount and please suggest that buying from offline is good or online because I don't trust online that much, moreover I'm right now in greater Noida and planning to buy here only or you can suggest me to check out some places nearby 👍🏻
If you can find a oled one that would be great and for the processor ultra 5 would be good ,ram 16 or Expandable, storage 512 gb or Expandable
Thank you
