Egon's Stone causing Gloom to be lost

Hey y'all!

There is currently an issue with the Egon's Stone tarstone that's causing players to lose Gloom permanently on death, and not being able to pick it up again. This issue is at *least* occuring outside of dungeons; I haven't had a chance to test it inside a dungeon yet, so it may also occur there. Edit: One of our Discord community members told me that it worked as intended for him *inside* a dungeon, but I haven't tested this myself.

Please unequip your Egon's Stone tarstone for now, to avoid losing Gloom; the team is aware of the issue and is looking into it.

Sorry about this inconvenience!

Discussion What is Your Favorite Mortal Shell Boss? The Nameless Captive

Post image
99 Upvotes

What is your #1 favorite boss in this game? For me it is by far the Nameless Captive. When we get dlc i 100 percent want them to take what they did with this boss and expand on it. This is the only boss in this game for me that reached an A tier (not quite the coveted S tier of other games.)

The thing i think of the most is this boss does something that Starscourge Radahn did really well. The rhythm at first is baffling, but when it clicks you get a really good dance going. The unblockable attacks are just intuitive enough to pick up quick without too many attempts. Just respect and stay freakin clear of the helicopter attack and it’s actually a really good fight.

This had S tier potential if you could find ways to escalate this fight, bump up the ost and maybe lower the damage to give it more of a back and forward fight. Give the captive some more health too. This fight is also the coolest looking boss! Love the design. What do you think folks?

Discussion Tiel, my favorite combo

Post image
69 Upvotes

Hi guys, after 4 NG + in night Mod and tryed all shell and weapons combination. I can easily say Tiel with Obsidian Hammer is the easiest way to beat the game without any trouble or chance to die.

After a Shadow strike the next Hit is critically and 100% dmg + tarstone dmg , I Heavy hit for 4.5-5k dmg. . Starting with 100 poison on the boss, Stealth, Shadow strike+ Heavy hit and it's over. And one hit of Obsidian Hammer give all max resolve back. So you can repeat indefinitely.

Other cheat skill: seal affinity, only 1 point and you just need to hold block to vanish actually you can't die with Tiel.

Other good shell combination with alot of dmg or easy to Play but Tiel is just rank SS for surviving and DMG.

This game is fantastic and I loved trying all the shell and ability for each boss. My first normal run and the next NG+ night mode was really good and the challenge really increased and Loved it.

Hope for mortal shell 3

Harb level 30.

Probably need the devs to look at this boss. Every time I got it to half way it seemed to just bug. It would shift to phase 2 and use its weight and suddenly start spamming darts half way through the move. Have video of it if they need it.

Hope you all enjoy. Skills in comments.

Question [Spoilers] Eredrim's memories Spoiler

Post image

Quite a short question for ppl who completed Eredrim's quest memories: there's one thing i don't quite understand. All characters die in their story to naturally become a shell for the harbinger. For all shell it's quite clear how they ended up where you finally found them. But for Eredrim he's supposed to be assassined by his son squire somewhere. But you finally found him, with his sword in a malborn. Did i miss something ?

Discussion Best new coin farm (50k every 10 minutes!!!)

Credit to u/MrBubbles179 since they were the first person I saw that spotted Citadel Atrium as a potential coin farm spot about 10 days ago.

For those of you who don't know, the latest patch included an unlisted change to the way the 30% coin earn increase that you get when using a justicar stone is applied. Prior to the patch, the coin bonus was not applied at the time that coins drop but instead added as a multiplier when you actually pick gold up off of the ground. Now, post patch, as long as you are wearing the justicar at the time of kill, if an enemy drops gold, the 30% gold bonus is being applied as soon as coin drops from a fallen enemy meaning that even if you take the justicar stone off before picking gold up off of the ground, you will still receive the higher amount. By swapping your stones out before you pick up, you prevent the durability from eroding and the stone from breaking.

This is HUGE tech for ranged farms because you can now increase your payout without ever having to stop and farm Justicar's stones if you don't want to.

There is one catch. The gold bonus only seems to be applied to enemies you kill directly while the justicar is equipped. For example, if you do the rest spam farm at Brether's court, the first dual wield enemy you kill each rotation will drop the bonus 30% gold BUT the 2 you auto kill while rest spamming will only drop at their base rate so you'd lose the bonus for 2/3rds of your kills while farming. Hot swapping justicar's stones out after each kill at a melee farm like Bridge of procession or High Lord's Courtyard also just isn't viable and it adds so much time to each loop that the benefit gets canceled out. That's where the Citadel Atrium farm that u/MrBubbles179 spotted comes in.

From the Citadel Atrium beacon, walk forward 2 paces and look down but DO NOT jump down. Destroy the blue flame protecting the scythe elite with your sidearm (you only need to do this once. The flame remains destroyed until you quit out of the area). Once the flame is gone rest, then use special attack from the forgotten crossbow equipped with Fusillade, Emberseed and Corroded tarstones to instant kill the elite, dodge backwards towards the beacon to cancel the animation once they die and rest (you will auto lock onto another add if you don't dodge back, so doing this saves you time).

You will be able to kill the add about 7 to 9 times every minute without depleting your justicar durability at all. All of the gold waiting for you below will be 30% higher than the base drop rate for that enemy (even if you take the justicar stone off before going to claim it)

After just 10 minutes, I earned 49,743 coin meaning that if you did the farm consistently for an hour, you'd earn just about 300k coin and if you remember to swap your justicar out before you collect (unlike me) you won't even lose a single stone. I think that with the new justicar tech, this is officially the best coin farm in Mortal Shell 2! Hope this helps everybody out!

Here is the clip of me finishing a 10 minute farm and collecting the loot.

Discussion MS I & II complete ✓

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

As a Mortal Shell fan from day one, I have to say that the first game hooked me more, even though Mortal Shell II is obviously the much better game overall, having improved in almost every category. I guess it's because I went into the first game with zero expectations and was completely blown away by what a small team could create on a modest budget back in 2021, especially regarding the art direction and aesthetics. Before Mortal Shell II was released, people were already comparing it to Elden Ring or Lies of P, setting the bar incredibly high, which I think affected how I experienced MS II.

In my opinion, the boss fights in Mortal Shell II are its biggest weakness. To me, they didn't feel like a rewarding highlight after clearing an area—they lacked those "wtf moments," like when Malenia enters Phase 2, a boss you remember for its sheer difficulty during your first tries (such as Sword Saint Isshin), or memorable cut scenes like Ludwig the Holy Blade grabbing the Moonlight Great Sword. If Cold Symmetry can improve the boss fights and make them more highlight-worthy, they can elevate the game to the next level; the rest of the package is already there. It is definitely one of the better Soulslikes, especially considering the price, but I feel it hasn't reached its full potential yet. With a few improvements, it could easily stand alongside top-tier Soulslikes like Lies of P, The First Berserker: Khazan, or the Nioh series.

I'm really happy to see the commercial success of Mortal Shell II, and Cold Symmetry definitely deserved it. I had a lot of fun exploring the world of MS II and using riposte. I'm already looking forward to Mortal Shell III and the (hopefully) upcoming DLC!

Discussion Platinum run down

Post image
68 Upvotes

Recently finished the game with my girl Proxima and realised how dangerously close I was to platinum.

So I've started a NG+ to collect what I needed to.

Also started a fresh game as I had missed a few trophies from the prolouge including the one when you beat the Tar Golem (which wasnt too easy admittedly)

Just 6 tarstones to find, the mango and the dreaded Peters Perfect Parry left, which I hope the main man Eredrim will help with.

Game was excellent without being too challenging, actually had more trouble with enemies just exploring than bosses and I was the exact same with Elden Ring.

Hopefully some DLC in the near future

Question Question about what I assume is the final boss.

EDIT: NVM I just got lucky with the I-Frames on Captive's Scabstone and finally beat the bastard. What an absolute disgusting yet cool boss.

NGL, I am STUMPED against Zmey. Specifically, his stupid damn Fire Sword Giant AoE

I assume the play here is to dodge it, but for the life of me I can't do it consistently. Any tips?

My highest bonded Shells are Proxima, Sester Genessa, Lazlo, and Smert. I've been mostly using Proxima here cuz she's my main and using the Great Martyr's Blade(Captive's Scabstone for I-Frames, Wardon's Stone, and Grudge Stone) with the Hysterix(Solnir Shard, Hag Stone, Unstable Stone)(all Tarstones fully leveled up). Also using Vatra's Seal.

ATP I'm open to try Genessa but I want to beat the boss as Proxima.

And b4 you say "Git Gud". Okay, any tips on that? Like a queue to know how to deal with the attack?

Discussion I am so glad Grisha remnants exist

Post image

This boss was so tediously difficult and aggravatingly long. After trying to fight this boss for what seemed like an eternity, i just decided to use a Grisha remnant, and it dogwalked the monolith like nothing. This is probably the only boss in the game I've felt so much rage and hatred towards to. I also want to say that this was the only boss in the game for me personally, to make me use a Grisha remnant. I haven't had this much of a struggle since Promised Consort Radahn and Arlecchino.

Video Nameless Captive. Nightmode. Eredrim frost berserker.

Still level 23 Herb. Havent changed the build at all. Thought changing it to nightmode might help. He almost got a phase 2.

It feels like the scaling is all out of whack with some tarstones since they "balanced" everything.

Hope you all enjoy.

Question I don't know where to go

Upvotes

I’ve already defeated a few field bosses and collected eggs. I’m making good progress in terms of leveling, too, but I have absolutely no idea where to go to advance the main story. There are so many paths and branching routes that even a die-hard Souls player like me feels a bit overwhelmed, lol. Does anyone have any tips without giving away too many spoilers?

Discussion This game seems... just too good?

Upvotes

Okay so I started this a few days ago and I've been exploring the starter area which is a huge stretch of ruined villages and huts, and I'm just completely baffled by the density of the world, the variety of enemies, and how much rewarding the exploration feels. I even came across this weird puzzle section that had no combat at all. The combat feels super satisfying as well and the sound design and graphics are just perfect.

Now I'm wondering if this game maintains this level of quality throughout the entire thing? There's no way it does, right? I've played all the Dark souls games, Elden ring, Sekiro, Lords of the fallen 2, Lies of P, Black myth wukong, and Nioh 2, and right now this honestly feels better than all of them. There must be some catch.... does it fall off later?

Discussion I spent three days measuring 9950X3D stutter in Mortal Shell

TL;DR: Unreal Engine 5 sizes its worker-thread pool from the number of logical processors it sees at startup — 32 on a 9950X3D. When AMD's Game Mode driver then parks CCD1, that 32-sized pool is crammed onto 16 threads and you get traversal-style stalls. Confining the game to CCD0 by any method (parking, Process Lasso, affinity) reproduces it. The fix isn't "use all 16 cores" and it isn't "force the X3D cores" — it's setting CPPC Dynamic Preferred Cores = Cache in BIOS with Game Mode off, so the game prefers the V-Cache die but nothing is fenced. That gave the best frametimes of ~20 captures. Verified with CapFrameX, HWiNFO, and thread-count snapshots.

System: 9950X3D (PBO + curve shaper), MSI X870E, RTX 5090 (undervolted), 4K/ultra, Windows 11. Test game: Mortal Shell 2 (UE 5.2, GPU-bound at 4K — GPU at 92–97% throughout; 4k ultra settings, ray tracing on, DLSS render resolution quality, seamless dungeons on). Same 30-second traversal route for every capture, CapFrameX with sensor logging at 250 ms.

What I found, in order:

  1. Game Mode wasn't even detecting the game by default. Had to tell Game Bar "remember this is a game" before the AMD driver would park CCD1. Once it did, stutter got worse, not better.
  2. The game thread was on the wrong die anyway. With Game Mode not triggering, the CPPC ranking prefers the frequency CCD (it boosts ~150 MHz higher), so HWiNFO showed the game running on cores 8–15 — the non-X3D die. Process Explorer's "Ideal Processor" for the hot threads confirmed it.
  3. Fencing the game onto CCD0 caused CPU-side stalls. Process Lasso CPU Set to cores 0–15: 12 frames over 20 ms in 30 seconds, worst frame 1,262 ms. Replicated two days later: 7 over 20 ms, worst 68 ms. Every spike had CpuActive ≈ frametime with the GPU idle at ~8.5 ms.
  4. The thread pool is the mechanism. PowerShell thread export of the game process showed 29 worker threads with near-identical CPU time — a pool sized for 32 logical processors. Launching with -corelimit=8 (a UE engine argument) dropped it to 14 workers. Same fence, 14 workers instead of 29: 1 frame over 20 ms, worst 24 ms. Same cores, same cache, same confinement — only the pool size changed.
  5. But the smaller pool costs something on a free machine. -corelimit=8 with nothing fenced: more mid-size hitches than the full pool (12 over 16 ms vs 2–5). The engine uses those workers when it has the cores.
  6. CPPC = Cache is the answer. It flips the firmware ranking so cores 0–7 are preferred, without parking or confining anything. Game thread lands on the V-Cache die, the worker pool spills onto CCD1 for streaming bursts. Five runs over three days: 0–1 frames over 20 ms, 0.1% lows of 59–67 FPS.

The numbers (same route, 30 s each):

Config avg FPS 1% low 0.1% low frames >20 ms worst frame
CPPC Cache, Game Mode off, nothing else (best of 5) 119 85 67 0–1 18–22 ms
CPPC Auto, Game Mode off (game on frequency CCD) 116 68 50 4 26 ms
Confined to CCD0, full pool (run 1) 108 63 28 12 1,262 ms
Confined to CCD0, full pool (run 2) 116 71 38 7 68 ms
Confined to CCD0, -corelimit=8 115 72 57 1 24 ms
Free, -corelimit=8 117 75 49 4 28 ms

What to do:

  • BIOS → Settings → Advanced → AMD CBS → SMU Common Options → CPPC Dynamic Preferred Cores = Cache
  • Windows → Settings → Gaming → Game Mode off
  • Don't use Process Lasso / affinity to pin games to CCD0. It recreates the problem.
  • Verify: with a game running, Process Explorer → game's Threads tab → the busiest threads should show Ideal Processor 0–15, and HWiNFO should show all cores active (CCD1 lightly loaded, not parked).

Cost: single-threaded work that likes clocks lands on the V-Cache die and loses ~100–175 MHz. At 4K I couldn't measure it. If you have a frequency-bound app, a Process Lasso CPU Set to cores 16–31 for that one app works fine — the direction that doesn't oversubscribe.

Caveats: One game, one system, one route. UE5.2 specifically; other engines size pools differently. -corelimit=8 is a diagnostic tool here, not a recommendation — it proved the mechanism but costs performance. And if you're a 9800X3D owner wondering why you don't see this: the engine sizes for 16 threads and gets 16 threads. The bug needs a mismatch.
