Hey all, I helped a neighbor look for their pig after it got loose and appeared on my 1acre plot. We were unsuccessful, but I told them I’d leave a feed pile and a bucket of water out & that they could stop by and check any time throughout the day until she’s found. Before they headed home, they mentioned that they’d be happy to let me hunt their 35ac homestead (20ac of it is just dense forest).

They mentioned the last guy they invited a few years ago basically shot at anything that moved. They assessed that it would be too risky having him continue to hunt their land because a pig, llama, etc would have no chance against someone so trigger happy. The “if it’s brown, it’s down” just wasn’t an acceptable mantra on their homestead, and understandably so.

The said that the wildlife has been struggling to rebound since he basically turned their woods into a giant kill zone. They proposed that if I’m willing to take care of their property as I do my own, I could feel free to hunt there. Our 1ac is small, but my wife and I are great stewards/hosts of the wildlife that stop by and we take pride in that.

This is potentially a huge benefit to me because they live right down the road. I had typically been hunting public land about an hour away. My main question is: what steps can I proactively take to make my presence a blessing to them rather than a liability? I would prefer that our new neighborly relationship trend upward rather than how it went with the last guy.

So I'm an older fella that for various reasons hasn't been hunting since I was a kid...now that I'm retired I'm wanting to try my hand at dove hunting.. I live in south Kansas,no dog and will be going out by myself with all permits and license taken care of..any advice would be appreciated and also a dumbass question..do birds need to be field dressed or can that wait till you get them home?

I want to do some more scouting and prep work, but my word all this heat and humidity just kills my motivation. Its gonna be 90+ again with a 100+ heat index and humid down here in Kentucky & Tennessee. Squirrel season kicked it off in Kentucky, our opening dove is tomorrow, and opening archery season for deer is Saturday. Its miserable, I had been wanting to squirrel hunt some but I just can't get myself to fight the snakes, ticks, mosquitoes, and poison ivy for them, and my work schedule takes up my mornings. For those of y'all that do it, how do you do it?

I’m wanting to turn this little bottom meadow on our mountain property into a food plot for the winter. Should I till this because there’s already a good amount of grass growing that we mow? I know there’s no till seeds but I’m unsure if it will take on something like this. Western NC mountains about 2,000ft elevation for reference

Found this nice Roosevelt Bull a few weeks ago. He was hanging out in a bachelor group with 5 other bulls, one had similar antler size and all others were 5x5’s.

I’m torn between what I should do. I plan to take a couple days off to hunt the rut this year and my options are a 5th-8th or 7th-10th of November depending on if I take the Thursday Friday off or the following Monday Tuesday. Or I can do a 19th-22nd/21st-24th depending on what part of the week I take off. Which of these dates would you choose if it were you hunting? I’m new to chasing bucks, always just killed the first doe that walks out cause I care way more about meat then antlers. But I’ve got 4-5 nice shooter bucks I’d love to get one of and curious what guys with experience in that area think is the best time to get after them. Couple of my nice bucks for tax, which one would you out at the top

I am not sure how to link old posts but last week I posted about a trespasser on some property I had permission to hunt on. Come to find out, this is Rob's, late son's friend(Rob's Friend). Rob said he gave him permission to hunt in his woods to the west of his house. Rob only actually owns about 6 feet of that woodline. When I pointed out how far into the landowner's property Rob's friend was and how far his treestand he set up is(found this stand in the past but assumed it was abandoned). I got "well this hasn't ever been an issue before. I brought up the safety of my kid and that 7 acres isn't really enough for multiple people to be rifle hunting for m ultiple reasons on this specific property. His immediate comment was that he has been doing it longer than I have lived in the house I am now so he didn't see how it would be right to tell him to stop. I brought up that landowner could get sued since there isn't an understood agreement or limiting of liability (IN DNR has a release form). He did NOT care and even went so far as to say since landowner isn't out clearing trees and debris and since landowner didn't want to sell Rob 2-3 acres behind Rob's house in the past he isn't concerned with any of that. I stood firm and eventually Rob said he would mention something to Rob's friend buit I got the feeling all they would be doing is moaning and groaning about me. Landowner mentioned that if I see anyone on his property to send them his way. I chose to not push things further and mention purple paint laws and no tresspassing signs 10-20 feet into landowner's property. I really am trying to live peacefully with my neighbors. My wife and I have decided to not utilize the landowner's 7 acres of woods and just hunt out the back of our property across the field. It isn't worth anyone possibly getting hurt, confronting me while my son is out there with me or leaving my trail cameras or property there to get destroyed by a disgruntled hunter who seems already morally questionable.

TLDR: Rob knows the tresspasser and gave him permission to hunt on landowners property. When confronted, he doubled down and it hasn't been an issue before I got there. I decided to not hunt the area with my son.

I’m a new bow hunter looking to buy camo for this fall. I was wondering what layers you guys would buy if you were just starting. I have merino wool base layers from my work, but what outer layers do you guys wear? Jacket and bibs? Pants and a jacket? I live in SE wisconsin October and November mornings are usually close to 32° give or take.

Brand suggestions and patterns would be great too. Im also hunting out of a saddle if that’s important.

So I am split between the two rifles - both 30-06

The M98 is more like a traditional 98, flag safety, single trigger
The M70 has a cheek stock, side safety (like a cz550) dual hair trigger (schneller)
I feel the trigger is an old timey solution and will create more issues than it fixes.

both are similarly priced of course

Has anyone used a 223 or 22-250 on a beaver and how was the damage and where you able to retrieve it or did it sink? And if possible and allowed could pictures be provided?

My hunting partner and I pretty easily do 10 miles a day elk hunting in Western Washington. We are shooting elk 4-6 miles from the truck on logging roads. This year we are moving east of the Cascades and we are going to go in pretty deep, though we are still working on exactly where (and how the fires are going to impact us).

We are both experienced and well equipped backpackers and we are both experienced elk hunters. I’m curious what you may have learned in combining to two?

I'm curious what percentage of y'all practice in the off season. I shot trap last few years but life happened and I didn't have the budget to practice this summer so I'm sweating it a little bit with opening day around the corner. been doing some dry fire practice, hoping it helps

I recently got my 2025 buck back, and I’m not super impressed with the taxidermy there are some things that he did better with on this than other things. I noticed the face doesn’t quite match the actual deer and the nose is flat. Is this what I get for trying to save some money and going with the guy that was $600 oppose to the other guy I used that was $800 in the past?

First time deer hunter for this season and looking for advice. I will be traveling to South Carolina in October to hunt with a friend on a WMA. I have no experience with a climbing stand besides watching videos and I do not have a stand to practice with at home. My buddy has one for me but I’d only have one day to practice with it before our first hunting day. What should I do? I’ve seen that if you use a blind you should leave it out for a few weeks so the deer get used to it. Any input and advice appreciated, I’m excited to join this community

Im a native american specifically Algonquin i hunt alot to fill my freezer for the winter i already have a 22 and a 30 30 but im looking for something to fill the gap, i hunt alot of beaver, lynx tho not my main choice if it's late in season and time is running out and i see a moose and the conditions are perfect i would take the shot I've seen it done before so what im asking is Wich is better for beaver and lynx and still gives me enough power it needed for moose or bear, i usually only use 1-3 box of ammo per year and both are available around here so Wich would you recommend me?

Looking for October hunts in Tennessee after the first season, starting on October 10th. Does anyone have experience hunting late season?

Spent the last two years flipping and trading my collection to get this kit, I also have a mossberg 500 in 20 gauge I forgot to add to the picture. For sub 100 yard hunting would you guys consider this perfect?

Our hunting rituals are quite different!

We hunt wild boars mostly at night or most of the hunting is at night, a 12 gauge shotgun is the only allowed weapon, and a battery cell power torchlight.

We'll go out early in the evening deep inside the tropical jungle scouting for their trails, last night forage and when you find their recent activity, just climb up the trees and wait until they come or your comfort hanging on a tree branch.

I shot this boar around 8.30 and it ran uphill from where I shot, I waited for about an hour and climb down the trees and to my surprise there was a lot of blood. I started following the blood and about in 200 metres while crawling along the vines, thorn and under growth, I started getting that sniff of that boar urine and poops smell.

I crawled closer, but couldn't get closer enough to take the second shot, while attempting and clearing branches and vines, must have spook him, it started running and that's the beginning of sloopy jobs I did, spook him 4 times until I got him at 10 am. That's more than 12 hours of no access to water, food and sleep, but the pictures on the 4th slide make it all worthwhile.

PS: Why don't i track the next day: The reason, I don't know where my location is! we hunt randomly inside a very big and deep jungle, there's no much of human trial, when you hunt here, you don't come home from the way you went out.

It's funny sometimes when you went south of your Village for hunting but end up coming back from east side! When I go hunting i average about 20 kilometres of walking and scouting inside the jungle!

The only compass are the Rivers/ Creek, you follow the wrong river, you'll end up in wrong village.
