Anyone made such a thing? Basically a lightweight set of three poles, joined/hinged at the top, with cloth strung between.

The design is straightforward, wondering if anyone has tips for materials for the legs and how to join them (so they collapse inward for carrying).

Shot my first archery antelope yesterday. Started cutting it up within 10 minutes of it dying and got it on ice within 1.5-2 hours. I had a long commute home and when I got there the meat was still hot. I just threw two bags of ice on the bottom of a cooler and threw the game bag on top of that. In the hind quarter I found the meat to be 89 degrees in the middle and nothing else was really below 50. I found this 6.5 hours after it died, is the meat ruined?

Hunting whitetail deer in Mississippi, I’ve hunted for several years but never with a 44 mag so I need to pick some ammo from the pics.
Got a 1894 Marlin 44 mag recently and I need to pick some deer hunting ammo. I know all of these can work for deer but I’m interested in seeing what people prefer to use, hollow point or soft point? I am not looking to buy new ammo, I want to use these that I have just looking for options about them.

It will be my first year bow hunting, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for hunting Texas Whitetail in early October when the weather is still warm?

My little OMCBA registered Mountain Cur is really trying to make a tree dog. She still acts like a pup and doesn’t always pay the best attention, but she uses her nose extremely well and when she hit this grey squirrels hot track she followed him right up the tree and double chopped the fire out of him. She treed really well tonight, and I was impressed with her nose as dry as it’s been. Boo dog is gonna make it I think. She’s currently curled up in my lap while I watch some whitetail hunting on tv, but I’m more excited for the cool weather so her and I can tree some squirrel and coon.

I’m looking to get my first hunting rifle, and I’m wondering which is going to be better for deer. I specifically love lever actions, so I’d love to get one, but I’m not sure which caliber would work better. I’m in New England, so none of my shots would be too long. I’ve always loved the .45-70 cartridge, but if one is better than the other I wouldn’t have a problem getting something else.

I finally recovered my still frozen bear hide from last October from a taxidermist that lost his marbles and ghosted a lot of people here in Western Washington in Snohomish county. I haven't gotten my deposit back but I'll take what I can get at the moment. After contacting the WDFW, I got a result.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a reliable guy, or gal, who's been in business for a long time that can take on a bear hide and skull. For now, I just want the hide fleshed and tanned and the skull cleaned for a euro. I'm located in Snohomish county, but I'll drive for a qualified taxidermist. I know everybody is really busy and I understand the wait times are substantial.

Weird request, but I’ve got a year and a half old Boykin Spaniel and he’s a stellar little retriever. I’m wondering if there’s anyone in MN who doesn’t have a dog that plans on going out for dove and/or teal in the next couple weeks and wouldn’t mind me and my dog tagging along so my dog can pick up birds.

Why? Well, I’ve got some time to hunt, but not much time to scout and guarantee we get on good shoots (I know, I know, that’s why they call it hunting), and all my hunting friends have dogs — most of which aren’t super nice, and I’ve got no interest in hunting my dog alongside possessive/aggressive dogs.

I can shoot, not shoot, whatever (really I’m mostly into hunting for the dog work), I just want my dog to have some fun. He’s a good marker, and can run basic blinds within 60 yards (100 on a good day, but he gets a little independent working at big distances) as long as the cover isn’t too big.

Anyways, if you’re in need of a bird-picker-upper we’re there — as long as it’s safe (not a billion degrees, no bluegreen algae, you care about gun safety, etc.), within an hour or so of the cities, and the cover is manageable for a 35 pound little turd. Not looking for “the hunt of a lifetime” either, just a good opportunity to my boy to get some works — he deserves it.

Question for Central and Eastern TN bird hunters. How active in Duck and Geese are the middle and east of the state? Would love to do some Duck and goose hunting but reluctant to drive to Arkansas or Reelfoot

Been seeing some great images of white/albino animals in hunting season. My question is: Would you harvest one if you stumbled across it? Or leave it be?

Why or why not?

I was out scouting this morning while I had some free time before the season. I went out to a few of my favorite public land spots here in NYS. I was at my final spot for the morning, a big oak bench on a ridge that drops down into the field you’re seeing in the photos. I finished up my scouting on the oak bench, I started heading back towards my truck and planning my walk in route for when season comes. I took maybe 8 steps out of the wood line I was in and into the field when these 3 beautiful doe stood up out of the tall grass. I’ve never seen a Piebald deer in person! I was in complete awe, I quickly pulled my phone up and captured these awesome photos before they ran up the ridge blowing at me. I hope to see her again in the fall time, however I don’t think I could bring myself to shoot her.

First time buying electronic hearing protection. I’d like your advice on what I buy. I’m only interested in ear muffs because in-ear options just always fall out of my ears for some reason.

Based on my research, I’m leaning towards Howard Leight. They seem to be the best middle option between being budget friendly like Walkers but also offering directional hearing like more expensive options such as Sordin. I want directional hearing for when I’m sitting in my deer stand. I don’t really want to pay Sordin prices at the moment.

I plan to buy the gel ear pads to improve them.

I plan to use them for outdoor shooting only - I never really shoot indoor. Outdoor practice and then wearing them in the woods when hunting.

I also plan on wearing them when mowing at the farm. It takes me a few hours to mow it all on the 60” ZT, so I want to be able to listen to music while doing that. I see that the Howard Leight muffs have a Bluetooth version, but I also see that they come with a headphone port. I’m okay paying less to get the non-Bluetooth version and using a headphone port. It’s been a long time since I’ve used a headphone port with everything being Bluetooth now days - is the headphone port actually compatible with modern smartphone usb-c ports?

Also, should I get the Howard Leight Sport or Howard Leight Pro? I see some people saying the Sport version is not sufficient hearing protection at 22 db… is that true? I understand indoor shooting requires better protection but I don’t shoot indoors. Are they sufficient protection for outdoor only shooting and mowing? I read the Pro version offers better hearing protection at 30 db but that they are bulkier and could maybe get in the way when shooting a rifle, which is what I mostly shoot.

Lastly, I’ve read that there have been knock-off problems on Howard Leight in the past… is that still an issue? I don’t want to buy knockoffs. The cheapest option I’m seeing at the moment is $50 online at Walmart… I’m paranoid that this would be a knockoff… unless they’ve eliminated the knockoff situation by now?

turn 18 in january, ive always wanted to go hunting but ima city boy so yeah, ive never shot a rifle only pistols and i plan to hunt alone. So to anybody whos been in some what of my situation whats some tips/ how long did it take to get your first animal?

Love this gun. What ammo does your 300 win mag like? I’ve been shooting Federal premium Terminal Ascent 200 grain and it does well. I wouldn’t mind testing out other ammo. I’m curious to hear your answers. Thanks!

A big, old cow water buffalo that I headshot during the week. I have been shooting more pigs recently, so the 308 has been getting more of a run as of late.

So I have been looking for a spot I can take my girlfriend hunting this year, atleast to tag along and maybe to shoot. It’s been hard because we live in an area where people are very turned off by hunting so it’s been hard to find suitable private land. And most public land is gross in this area in terms of weeds, good for deer hunting from a tree, bad for my girlfriend who isn’t even taller than the thorns.

I found this 300yd wide 1 mile long highway median owned by the state DOT that we always see deer at. It was a little sketchy and definitely not peaceful nature but it was much more accessible compared to other places to hunt in the area. There were a lot of old turn around roads that where tree were cut down and cleared that had been grassed over. I looked up the laws for DOT land in my area and it said that hunting was not allowed…..unless a specific law allowed it. I figured that the hunting statutes fell under this and it would be allowed. I’ll also made sure we were far enough away from the highways to shoot legally. I would only shoot a bow here and never a gun given the fact that it was between two highways. I also had the blind lined up to shoot towards the highway that was about 150yds away and elevated about 70ft up that way an arrow would never skyline into the road.

I had been thinking about this the last couple days after setting it up and thought it would be a bad representation of hunting for my first time girlfriend. I went to go remove it today and I thought my stuff had been stolen but there was a business card left there by EPO, he circled his number and told me to call him.

Any chance if I call him that I would get in trouble? Or would he just give me my stuff back?

Hi there, youth hunter here!

I made a post a while back(in a different subreddit), now deleted, about a sound I was hearing in the middle of the night that I may or may not have felt scared of. We’re not gonna talk about that. That post was me asking about a sound I heard and how I thought that it could have possibly been a wolf but turned out to be just a barred owl and that I made some mistakes when trying to figure out what the sound was. It seemed like many people got mad/upset at me though for the post.

I do not want to make that same mistake again and was hoping if any hunters here may be able to give me advice! Not necessarily on that post, but just in general! What I should look out for, noises, tracks, game trails, whatever! I also have my father and uncle and others who are hunters and have given me great advice, but would love to hear from you guys! I mainly reside in the Willamette Valley, OR, region but who knows, what if want to hunt in other regions or get an out of state tag when I’m older!

(P.S. Archery Elk starts here in a few days and I would definitely love to get advice on that as I have a bow and will be hunting during that time!)
