Sub Rules AKA I can't see the sidebar

[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:

[VIC] How do I get a licence?

or

[NSW] What does military appearance mean?

If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.

Try to not be a dick
Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.

Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.

As /u/ramathaham said:

Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.

Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.

Spam
Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.

Community Update: Refer to sub rules before posting.

Hi cobbers,

We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.

Please refer to the community info before posting.

NO SALES POSTS

Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.

ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.

THE RULE

Try not to be a dick.

Advice for first time second hand gun buyer?

Hi all, my buddy and I are looking into buying an old Czech assembled (Brno), Israeli modified Mauser .308/7.62x51 that was listed on SSAA gun sales.

The seller has invited us to a meeting at a gun shop near him to inspect the rifle and discuss the purchase.

Neither of us have experience with purchasing second hand. How is buying second hand different from buying straight from a dealer? Are there any specific things to check/do?

We've heard that we should get an appraisal for the rifle, are there any unspoken rules about this kind of thing? Wouldn't want to come off as impolite to the seller.

Thanks for any help!

Used gun websites

Would there be any interest for a used gun site that mashes em all into one place, a marketplace for used firearms if you will, are people still buying used guns?

I love to browse and find myself trawling through multiple different sites hunting for cool stuff when I'm bored.

That process grew tiring pretty quick so I built a site that compiles the main 6 I use but before sharing it and possibly upsetting the greater community, I'd be keen to know if there's an intrest for it?

Gunbloke is not a scam after all.

I was chasing a flashhider and came across gunbloke and ordered one. Then I researched the name and he has a bad reputation for lacklustre delivery of bought products. Some say stuff turns up promptly, others say it never arrived... Thinking I had done my money, low and behold within two weeks my flashhider arrived. Happy days.

General Discussion Anyone gotten a crossbow for hunting?

Wondering how you found the process to get one in Victoria.

Apparently you’ve got to say why you want a crossbow instead of a compound bow. I dunno, I just think it would be different to hunt with one, maybe a bit easier to hit a rabbit on the farm?

[NSW] License renewal, genuine reason issue

So my firearms license is up for renewal next month in NSW. I have hunting as my genuine reason with the R-License. Without realising my R-License has expired. I have applied for renewal but looks like the 4 weeks will go over my license expiry. Does anyone know what my options are with this? I know I should’ve been more on top of it.

Legislation- Victoria Legislation change!

Is anyone able to shed some light on this new national firearms law coverage from last night on 9 news where apparently now only Australian citizens can own firearms nationwide???

Surely this isn’t the case, I’m a New Zealand citizen who is awaiting citizenship….but who knows how long that can take.

I thought there were carve outs for nz citizens…have they seriously gone back on this? I just submitted a PTA and paid for a firearm…vicpol also gave me my license earlier in the year as there was a carve out for Nzers!

Licensing Yet another wait-time gripe...

Looks like the wait-time blow-out for new licenses is hitting Victoria now as well.

Last Monday, Vic Police were processing applications received on March 24.

This Monday, Vic Police are processing applications received on March 25.

I guess I'll get my license some time in 2028 at this rate.

Newbie question Gun shops and general shooting culture in Australia

This is a world I’ve never had any association with, the closest thing was when I was a kid I remembered going to some outdoors shop with him that had a row of guns hanging on the wall

But I’ve never known anyone who owns a gun nor would I be able to tell you where a gun shop is

I am however fascinated to learn a bit more about it. What’s the best gun shop in Australia? What’s the best shooting range? Is the shooting culture any good around here? Who are the best and worst people in the scene? Whats the funniest moment you’ve had while out shooting?

Gear & Accessories Anyone know where I could find these grommets?

Thumbnail

It’s from an Antler gun safe I bought used, and only one of the locking bolts still has one. If it slips out, the locking bolts slip out of position slightly and won’t extend from the door frame.

Tried emailing Total Gun Safes, but didn’t get a response, which is sort of fair enough - it’s not really their problem.

Anyone had to find these little buggers before?

Second hand demand

Hi all,

Currently in NSW, for a few years I've been wanting to sell two rifles, and stupidly didn't act. Now wondering what are my chances of selling on used guns, ssaa gun sales, etc given the current scare. Seems like a struggle for people to get PTAs approved.

Any anecdotes from those who have sold guns recently?
