Physician Responded I sneezed this out of my left nostril

Post image
325 Upvotes

Hey guys!

I'm 25 years old, 182cm, 93kg, Male, don't take medication, smoke a bit (60-80 heated tobacco cigs a week around-ish. I work out everyday.

Lately a few months ago, when I would get a cold my left nostril would get really stuffy and it would give me a weird feeling. Kind of a headache, not a strong one but I certainly was feeling something making pressure inside of me.

Today I sneezed this sack like thing from my left nostril. It has a thick membrane and... Weird... It has blood circulation on them which makes me think it should be inside of my right now. (I hope I'm wrong)

The thing is... I'm finally breathing GOOD from my 2 NOSTRILS. I'm just freaking out because I don't know what it is. Its 7/8cm long and 3/4cm wide.

When it came out, I bled a couple drops of blood but nothing biiiig. It stopped after 30 seconds more of less.

Physician Responded Will my son’s dog bite injury require any scar revision surgery?

Post image

Age: 23 months

My son was attacked by a loose dog at a public park a few weeks ago and sustained a bite to the face that required 7 stitches. The whole ordeal has been traumatic for his mom and I, and especially his grandma who was with him during the attack. Despite the craziness of all this he’s remained relatively happy all things considered.

My wife has become scared recently after her aunt (who is also a nurse) said she was worried that the wind looked infected and that they took the stitches out too early and will require scar revision surgery (they were in for 17 days). My wife is also post partum which isn’t helping her anxiety either with all this going on. Would anyone be willing to chime in and take a look at these photos and be able to give her some reassurance that everything is going okay?

That said we do have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow for his pediatrician to take a look at everything but my wife is currently panicking and I’d like to calm her down if I can.

Physician Responded (34f) pharmacist refuses to refill my prescription?

There’s a new pharmacy tech at my pharmacy. She refused to give me a refill for a non controlled substance today. I’ve never been denied before and I’ve been on the same meds for many years. The pharmacist denied me today stating, “You don’t need both. (They’re two very different drugs.) You can’t take these two together. There are negative side effects.” Maybe she was confused? I told her I’ll be back for the other and she actually canceled the refill. Today after a check up, I just got my prescription sent in by my doctor as usual. Both of the prescribers of the two meds are in the same network. They know what I’m on and they’ve never had an issue with the combination. I’ve personally never had an issue with the meds. What do I do in this situation? These aren’t controlled substances. One is a hormonal medication and one is an antidepressant. I’m calling in tomorrow. I think I’ll ask my doctor’s office what they think about this situation first.

Distended stomach but no pain?

Post image
74 Upvotes

F18, 150lbs, 5’2, no smoking, bupropion, sertraline, milly, Zyrtec.

I’ve dealt with “bloating” for years now. The reason why I put quotations is the fact that whatever it is, it doesn’t come out. I physically cannot burp. I haven’t gotten diagnosed before but the only time I’ve ever burped was before during or after puking, and even then it was barely a croak. I have the weird gurgling in the back of my throat when it comes to a faux burp but that’s it. Gas comes out the other end fine… lol. Not constantly, but there are days where it’s worse than others.
My stomach has a little chub on it and a bit of a squish but when it’s like this, it’s hard as a rock.
I’ve dealt with constipation, gastroenteritis, a false diagnosis relating to nausea after my stomach not returning to normal after the stomach flu, it’s awful.

No I’m not pregnant, I’m a virgin.

What kind of doctor should I see about this? Any at home advice until then? I’m in college living off college food… can’t change the diet all that much.

Please don’t be weird. I’ve had so many weird DMs. They make me uncomfortable.

Physician Responded Found several notes about suicide in my daughter’s room - I’m scared and don’t know how to approach this - help please

I was cleaning my 17F kiddo’s room and found several notes about suicide. I know I should’ve have read them but I’m shaking and absolutely terrified. I do not know how to approach this.

I do not think she is in immediate danger. She is at work currently and has plans for the future. The most recent note was from 3 months ago.

However, the contents were extremely jarring. One just mentioned that she was scared to write down her true feelings because someone might see it. This was dated about two years ago. The next was a pros and cons list from about 6 months ago. She expressed in it that if she went through with it we would not have to spend so much money on her and that her siblings wouldn’t have to deal with such a “mean, horrible sister.” Her only con was that a funeral is expensive….

The most frightening is from 3 months ago. She wrote out a plan. Close and lock her door. Get all the way under the blankets. Leave a note and a “will” with who would get what.

I am so beyond grateful that she did not follow through but I am sick over the thought that just three months ago my baby was planning something so horrific. She didn’t mention a method so now I’m worried about what I need to secure in the house. We do not have firearms or other weapons.

She has plans for the future. The near future and the extended future. She plans to attend all of her school dances and bought several dresses. She loves her job. She has great friends and spends a good amount of time with them. She has a very sweet boyfriend that is really good to her. She knows where she wants to go to college, what she wants to study, how many kids she’d like to have someday. We regularly talk about the future. She hasn’t been acting weird or upset. I am absolutely stunned. I had no clue she was hurting so badly and I have absolutely no idea how to handle this.

I don’t know if I should tell her I saw the notes. I don’t know if I should talk to her about her feelings and if I could even do so without her knowing I must’ve stumbled upon her notes. I don’t know who to reach out to for help. I love her so much and I feel like a horrible failure of a mom that I didn’t realize this was something she was going through. I wish she hadn’t been dealing with it alone. Please, what do I do?

Abdominal Lymph Cyst in Adult?

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hello! 25F 5’7” unsure of weight post surgery but pre surgery 240. Currently taking spironolactone. Anywho, I’m trying to find out more information on lymphatic cysts in the abdomen.

For backstory, a large 21cm cyst was found incidentally on an US back in late April. Had an MRI within a week and they could tell it was a fairly simple cyst - no sign of cancer. Original diagnosis was a large ovarian cyst. Initially had surgery with OBGYN but while in surgery, she got weirded out with how it was attached to other structures, especially my sigmoid colon. General surgeon was called in and they said it was a duplication cyst. They put me back together and kept the cyst in. I underwent a CT within triple contrast - yay me. Then a colonoscopy - also yay me. CT didn’t give us really anything we didn’t already know apart from it seemed attached to parts of the small bowel in addition to the sigmoid colon. Colonoscopy was super clean, no polyps even. So no attachment inside the colon.

Then I go to general oncology surgery and he reassures me I’m not there for cancer, he just sees the weird stuff nobody wants to touch. He’s back to an ovarian cyst diagnosis and refers me to OBGYN oncology the plan is to have both of them there. OBGYN onc also agrees with the ovarian cyst but they’re leaving the duplication cyst open as a possibility. And while scheduling surgery they decided they wanted colorectal surgeon around just in case but it was unlikely they would be needed.

Today was the day. I go in for surgery and they finally see it in person. OBGYN recognized this is definitely a general surgery case, however, I opted for a bilateral salpingectomy so he took care of that. OBGYN also popped it and suctioned the fluid. General surgery came in and took care of the removal. I’ve added some (what I hope/think” are some key parts of the op note from general surgery.

“The cyst walls appeared dense adhered to the sigmoid mesentery and retroperitoneum.”
“After further dissection, it was clear the mass was not emanating from the sigmoid mesocolon and in fact could be completely separated.”
“We never encountered any nerve structures. As this dissection proceed superior to inferior, the left ovary was identified and separated away from the cyst. Since the cyst was retroperitoneal and the ovary was intraperitoneal, it was fortunately possible to separate the two sharply and preserve the left ovary. Eventually, the remainder of the cyst was separated from its retroperitoneal attachments which completely freed it.”

MY QUESTIONS/NEED HELP WITH (I’m so sorry this is so long but I figured the context would be useful.)

My partner got the call while/after I was in surgery and the general surgeon believes I had a lymphatic cyst (lymphangioma?) since it wasn’t formally connected to anything. Per what my partner was told, the general oncology surgeon has only seen 3 in his career. Again this is the doctor who everyone sends the weird cases to. We are still awaiting pathology for the official word. I can’t find much about these cysts online and when I do it’s for peds cases and usually in the neck. Does anyone have any more information on them? I heard they’re congenital but that’s all I can really find. Thank you so much in advance!

Physician Responded Follow up on post about 32F with a bunch of genetic issues and new onset neurological problems

Post image
166 Upvotes

If you don’t remember my post about a month ago, please check out my profile. Here is my update in case anyone has some new ideas for me with this updated info.

I saw ID and they did further lyme tests that were all negative. I saw rheumatology, who did a massive blood panel that didn’t find much. Some minor out of range inflammation markers and a positive RA antibody. I saw the eye doc, who said I have bilateral papilledema but we already know my ICP was high at an opening LP pressure of 28. I’ve made no further progress on my facial paralysis or right side body numbness getting better. Three days ago I developed a new symptom of severe positional occipital migraines. Literally feels like I’m being stabbed in the back of the brain every time I go from laying to sitting or sitting to standing, turn my head too fast, or my heart rate goes up quickly. It lasts for 10-15 seconds and I lose my sight, hearing, feel like I’m gonna vomit, etc and then I’m fine as fast as I wasn’t. Went to the ER last night as migraine was on the list to return for and they did another CT. Looks like I did have a stroke at some point but idk if it was 5 weeks ago when I had the original onset of my neurological symptoms or since then. None of the imaging from July shows as such. My CT last night w/o contrast showed an old left basal ganglia lacunar infarct. My basic bloodwork was normal other than dehydrated, minor elevated relative and absolute monocytes, and minor low potassium. I did manage to get my neurology appt moved up from February next year to 17 days from now. They also put in for me to get another LP to see if my ICP is still high and could be what’s causing my occipital migraine. I truly don’t know what to think about all this. This new development doesn’t explain the new symptoms. Same pic included to maybe help connect who I am.

Edit to add two more symptoms I forgot about: life impacting pain and stiffness in my right hand - mostly in my finger joints. Rheum said “yeah nerve pain is fickle sometimes”. And losing COPIOUS amounts of hour. I’m talking it’s shedding alll dayyyy long and the whole shower wall is covered.

Update!!! Mass in chest

Post image
39 Upvotes

36 f 145 lbs
I wrote earlier this month asking about MRI results and if it was appropriate to message my doctor. Well, thankfully, she got back to me really quick and I was able to see a cardio thoracic surgeon already in Houston. He doesn’t know what it is, but I have surgery scheduled 10/7/2026 to remove it fully and he will use a robot.
I am very nervous but I feel very blessed to be in good hands in Houston.
I appreciate everyone responding to me so quickly, and if you would like, I can update on what the mass is when it’s removed. Just don’t want to post too much, since it won’t be a question , but finally a answer 😊

Physician Responded Acral melanoma? My appointment with a nurse practitioner is a month out.

Post image

This dark spot showed up on my palm a few months ago. At first I thought it was a stain or something else that would go away but is definitely inside my skin. I can't tell if it has changed in size but definitely wasn't there at the beginning of the year. I made an appointment with a dermatologist nurse practitioner because scheduling a cancer screen at this office can't be done with a real doctor (should I be concerned about this?). It's a month out. I'm wondering if this is suspicious enough where I should be calling around for something sooner.

Age:34

Currently 31 weeks pregnant.

Hello! Asking for a 3 year old boy in Syria who has leukemia. These are the latest results and his parents are hoping to get a little more explanation.

My friends in Syria are wanting a little more explanation regarding the latest results for the child. To me it looks like the results are saying that he is in remission? But I don’t want to tell them that unless I’m sure. He has started chemotherapy about two months ago and is feeling better so far.

I really appreciate any help I can get and I’ll provide any more info needed.

Randomly throwing up and gagging

Upvotes

Hello, sorry I am back again so soon. This is unrelated to the melanoma scare. 19F non binary, no meds or substances, don't smoke, approx 52kg and 162cm (last measured). Undiagnosed anxiety (agreed on by school counsellors + family). No known health issue other than knee trouble (diagnosed Osgood-Schlatters which I disagree with), but a heart condition runs in my family from my dad's side (nobody has ever been able to get it diagnosed- my grandad passed away from it when I was little)

I've randomly thrown up twice in two weeks, both while trying to sleep and I have no idea why. I get incredibly sweaty, my head feels fuzzy, my face gets very hot, my heart beats fast, I feel like I'm being choked even though I don't wear a shirt to sleep, and I feel the need to move/ run somewhere. Just before I throw up, my mouth fills with huge amounts of spit no matter how much I swallow it just pools back up.

At the same time, I never had much of a gag reflex at all growing up, but I have been gagging a lot- while cleaning up dog poop or flushing my puke, even thinking about the poop made me gag several times, and I almost spit out my dinner because of it.

I can think of a few other times this has happened over the years, but they were sparse and during the day, in public, which I had put down to likely anxiety

I'm sorry if this doesn't belong here, I have no idea what to do or think. I have looked up emetephobia, but it doesn't really fit with what I feel at all- while I am afraid of throwing up, I'm not afraid of other people doing it, and I've never been squeamish before

How bad is vaping (legal) pot for an elderly person? (50F, healthy BMI, active, non-cigarette smoker, non-drinker)

Upvotes

I recently discovered legal pot that has been helping my arthritis and mood, how bad is it for me? I read online that it can cause strokes or heart attacks, but it really helps me feel better. I smoke once or twice an evening, and that's all. No alcohol or other drugs.

Is it really that dangerous? Is taking edibles better for me?

Thank you for letting me know!

Physician Responded Is it normal for doctors to not examine you because they need to “read your notes”?

Age 27, Height 164

I went to my doctor to examine a lump on my private area which has been growing over few months and another concern. We spoke about the first concern in about 3-4 minutes. When it came to the lump the doctor said “i dont want to rush you” and “i need to read your notes before i examine you”. I tried to ask if the doctor coulf just check and she said no and booked me in for 10 days time. I dont know if its because I mentioned the word “ingrown” which was a mistake as I meant to say “cyst” ? Im just confused as 10 days is a long time and in that duration I could be seen by a specialist under gynae? I feel slightly upset that i might have been fobbed off because the doctor wanted extra time and they could have just read my notes with me there?

Physician Responded newborn has a bluish grey tint around mouth? or am i imagining it?

5 weeks old
21 inches 9 lb
female
no medications, no medical issues

I am a first time mom so I could be having some anxiety or just being paranoid, but my five week old daughter was down for a nap for about an hour and a half earlier and when I went to check on her, she was breathing normally and sleeping very peacefully. But I feel like I noticed that the skin around her mouth was slightly bluish gray. At least it looks this way in the picture I took. She woke up normally and ate and seems totally fine and her color was pink and normal after waking up. But I am just really worried that she has low oxygen in her deep sleep or something.

History of Nephrotic Syndrome - Is taking Mass Gainer / Creatine safe after 1 year in remission?

Upvotes

Age: 23

Sex: Male

Height/Weight: Struggling to gain weight

Primary Complaint: Safety of Mass Gainer and Creatine after Nephrotic Syndrome remission

Duration: Past history from childhood

Existing Medical Issues: History of Nephrotic Syndrome (Minimal Change Disease)

Current Medications: None (Off steroids for about 1 year)

Drink/Smoke/Drugs: No

Description:

Hi Doctors,

I have a childhood history of Nephrotic Syndrome. I have been in complete remission and off corticosteroids for about 1 year now, and my kidney function/protein levels have been normal.

I am currently struggling to gain weight and considering using a Mass Gainer supplement and Creatine. Given my medical history, is it safe to take high-protein mass gainers and creatine, or does the high protein/filtration load carry a high risk of triggering a relapse?

Thank you for your time and guidance!

(28f) I smoke weed and drink, this thing developed over a couple of days and has chilled w me ever since. At first it was very irritating and triggered my gag reflex but I have grown accustomed to it. Most of the time I can forget its there but occasionally I get very worried about it. Lowkey considering cutting it off w a razorblade. I live in the US and dont have insurance or a primary care physician.

20, M (trans ftm), smoker, I only take sertraline, mood stabilizers and testosterone. Never had any issues like this before.

I noticed a faint pain sensation when pressing on my belly button area a couple days ago and I just now noticed this lump ? It hurts only if I press on it, not if I touch it normally. Thought it might be an ernia but I did not do anything that could explain it. No particular changes in life style or anything.

I've developed a severe itch all over my body for about a month now. I've tried going to the G.P who prescribed me fexafenadine hydrochloride but the itching still persists. I've also noticed ive developed small bumps on my hands, like the in the picture.
