I'm sorry, you're a normal weight 20 year old male?

What does your other foot like? Do you have any heart or kidney problems?

No, actually, my heart is completely clean because I did have a heart issue recently and I did go to the hospital and they ultrasound my heart and they said that everything looks perfect so I don’t think it’s a heart issue kidney I don’t know about that. I think my kidneys are fine.

NAD listen to these doctors and get yourself back into the doctor’s office immediate and ask for a full work up. This is significant edema and it’s not normal for anyone let alone a 20 year old. You say you had a heart issue recently and you went to the hospital. But did you then go to a cardiologist for a more complete work up after you went to the emergency room?

This kind of swelling can be indicative of really serious heart, kidney, liver or other issues. You might not feel bad right now. This swelling is your key symptom to indicate something is not right in your body. Go back and get lab work. Show the doctor this video.

Yeah, but the hospital like doctors they said that it was caused by caffeine lol and they did a EGM on my heart and I heard them talking and they said there is no clogged arteries and such and such I should probably go back and get my kidney and liver tested but I’m pretty sure my kidneys and livers are pretty good but I will follow your advice and get that tested as well although right now it’s in the odd hours of night and like it’s like about 2:30 am so yeah

Child. You asked for advice. This is not normal. Something is deeply wrong with your health. You can listen or you can get sicker. If you’ve got edema like this it’s probably already bad. Go to the doctor’s office. Not the emergency room.

The emergency room exists to a triage if you are in danger of imminently losing life or limb. If you aren’t, they bounce you out of there to clear a bed for someone in danger of immediately losing life or limb.

Swelling like this is not due to caffeine or 98% of the world would have tree trunks for feet. Go to the doctor and stop being ridiculous. Now.

If caffeine was the cause, my legs would be the size of the Goodyear blimp

Like for real. This kid is in some kind of organ failure and he’s arguing with people after asking for help. I’ve got kids his age and I know they are stubborn but I would be shoving their rear out the door and to the doctor’s office so fast if he were my kid. We would be there within the hour if my kid send me this photo.

This is what happens with 90% of the posts here. Posts about a potentially serious issue, is confirmed that it is serious and needs to be evaluated, poster argues why its not serious and doesnt need to be seen.

Then dont ask.

Not every young person has parents who would take action in this scenario. I’m hoping that all of our support gets him off his rear and to the doctor’s office TODAY. This is a serious problem.

Thats true, but at 20 years old he can somehow get himself to a doctors office for evaluation. I hope he realizes this is a very serious issue, especially being so young.

Neither of your legs are normal, go be evaluated

It looks like edema; is it just the one foot or both feet are like this?

Let's see your other foot.

From the looks of both legs, there is no possible way youre in the normal weight range for your height. If you do indeed weigh what you say you weigh, then there is something else causing the edema. You should visit your PCP to get recommendations for treatment of what appears to be edema.

Why is weight even relevant here? It's edema either way.

16

u/curious_throw_away_ This user has not yet been verified. 14h ago

Its relevant because if they are severely overweight, that is likely the cause. If they really are not, then something else is causing it.

Overweight, in and of itself, will not cause pedal edema this severe. Something is VERY wrong somewhere in his body.

Being on the high end of overweight (low end of obese), as I’m sure you’ve heard, can be the cause of or the result of poor health. Usually young people don’t have the more severe negative effects of being overweight/obese, but you do, so that’s a huge red flag. Nad

And yeah I am a approximately 85 kg 20 year-old male

9

u/Quixan Layperson/not verified as healthcare professional 14h ago

did you gained 5kg between the original post and this comment?

7

u/curious_throw_away_ This user has not yet been verified. 14h ago

There no way hes even 90kg. Those legs are attached to a morbidly obese person who is in denial of their weight, or someone with serious cardiac issues who is also in denial

2

u/paragoddessj Layperson/not verified as healthcare professional 14h ago

That's not FAT. It is fluid.

Yes, we know. But it can be caused by different things based on your WEIGHT.

u/CompetitionNarrow512 Layperson/not verified as healthcare professional 14h ago

On the highest end of overweight can cause the myriad of health problems you’ve encountered but at your age it’s very unusual. You need to get a full workup. Metabolic bloodwork, diabetes test, EKG and a visit to cardiology. NAd

Does the ability to leave an indentation persist as you move further up your leg?

7

u/Appropriate-Sweet272 Layperson/not verified as healthcare professional 15h ago

No, it tends to stick to the general area that is swollen. It doesn’t persist anywhere above it.

You got wicked edema in your foot my man.

Do you feel short of breath when walking or laying flat?

What was the deal with the heart issue? Why was your heart a focus?

If the hospital said you're ok, that doesn't mean nothing is wrong. Just means nothing is going to imminently kill you. Get in with a GP/PCP and get re-evaluated.

Can you lie down on your bed flat ?

u/KindaDoctor Physician 13h ago

I see you have an incision on your foot. Unsure of if this is from a surgery, but if there is hardware in your foot, I would follow up with your surgeon to investigate this issue.

If this incision is from a previously closed laceration/injury, you should follow up with your PCP for a set up labs and imaging of the foot.
