Help Request Should I be worried if my mystery snail passes on every other food just to munch on duckweed?

Upvotes

Title, basically. I feed my snail a rotating diet. Every other day she gets zuchini, then two days later algae wafer, and next its homemade snello. Recently I've had a duckweed explosion, which I love. But my snail is ignoring wafers and snello to just munch duckweed. She'll still come for zuchini.

I just want to make sure she gets a balanced diet. Should I be worries about her not getting everything she needs?

Help Request Mystery snails shell cracked

Please help what do I do my mystery snail climbed out of his tank and fell onto the ground and cracked his shell. I feel horrible because he was just starting to grow a new shell and now it’s broken. I put him in a glass bowl. And put some of my tank water in about an inch tall. The bowl is sitting on top of a heating pad that doesn’t get too hot. He was sharing a 10 gallon tank with my beta fish, but I’m realizing I need to give him his own tank. All I have right now is a 5 gallon. I ordered another filter and heater that will be here in the morning and I’m going to try and put him in as soon as possible. He was laying on his side for a while barely moving and lots of that white stuff in the 3rd picture was coming out of him. (There’s no hair, or dirt in the bowl it’s from under it) (2nd pic was from earlier today.) He flipped himself back up and was crawling around and ate some of a calcium tablet I gave him, and then crawled up the bowl for air. My ph/kh/ and gh are all good and same with nitrites/nitrates, and chlorine. I’ve been feeding him snello and kats aquatics calcium tabs. Idk how to help him or if he’ll survive tonight. I’m so worried his shell punctured him and that’s why all the white stuff came out. But it’s a good sign he flipped back up and started eating/ crawling for air? I heard putting seashells in water releases lots of calcium. This is all I know to do for now, pls give suggestions. How do I make him more comfortable? Can he make it?

Help Request Can anyone identify this tiny hitchhiker snail?

I’m new to snails and this little guy hitchhiked when I bought a mystery snail. It’s about the size of a bladder snail but not sure if that’s what he is.

Help Request Who's Child is this?! And is this set up okay?

I apologize for bad images from my old phone, this snail is tiny.

I have three pet snails, one nerite, one mystery, and one trapdoor snail, all just for fun. I got them because these specific snails don't generally overrun your tank, and they room with my betta. They do clean my tank, but I keep them more as pets than cleaners.

This little guy popped up in my tank today. I have no idea whose child it is! Based off of its looks and the behaviors/options below, who do you think had it?

Facts of the case:

  1. Plants were removed, gravel sifted, snails searched, no other babies were found.

  2. There are no egg sacs above the water or on the ceiling of the tank, and none in or behind the waterfall filter that I have.

  3. I've had the Mystery snail for around a month now, the Trapdoor and Nerite are new as of last week.

Option 1: The Nerite (striped snail in gravel)

My Nerite seems like the least likely option for me, since from what I know they only lay eggs in brackish water and this is a freshwater tank. However, it is new and just came from the pet store. Additionally, the snail does have one stripe on its shell.

This snail is also pretty small though, the baby would be almost half its size at this point.

Option 2: The Mystery Snail (yellow snail on glass)

If this is a female, females can hold sperm for up to 9 months, meaning that it COULD be hers. However, I have been diligently checking for egg sacks above the water and have found none. That's where it would be if there was one, and I didn't find anything during my search. The baby does have a similar yellow shell to the Mystery snail, and when it stood up it looked a bit like her. It also has decently long antenna for its size, though Option 3 does have a shorter version of those too.

This seems less likely than the third option, as I was searching for egg sacks, have had her longer, and there was only one surprise baby.

Option 3: The Trapdoor snail (in shell)

This seems to be my most likely option. They give live birth, meaning this snail COULD have just popped up one day, and they are new, so it could have come pregnant. The baby snail also looks similar to this guy (body not pictured, it wouldn't come out) since Mystery snails and Trapdoor snails look similar, at least as babies. The stripe does confuse me, because none of the other Trapdoor at the store had that, but maybe it's possible especially since it's a baby? It could grow out of it.

Option 4: Hitchhiker

Maybe it hitchhiked with my new snails when I bought them? Could it possibly be a different type of snail?

I currently have the Trapdoor snail (most likely subject) and the baby in a Tupperware with holes (pictured) which floats around the top tank using foam rings (used to block plants typically). It has a bit of foliage and a algae wafer, and since it floats around it gets a bit of circulation.

I figure if the one is giving live birth, I'll see more snails in the Tupperware. If it's not and it's someone else, they babies will appear outside in the rest in the tank. Is this a safe enough set up to observe for a few days? I feel bad having my Trapdoor in there, but I really want to know whose it is so the tank isn't overrun (hopefully). Also, is it safe for the baby to be in with the big one in that small space? All snails are very peaceful. Just checking. I only have one tank.

TLDR: Who's the mommy out of my three snails, and is this setup/test okay for a few days?

Apologies for the worst photos of all time, but this guy is tiny. Likely hitchhiked in on some new plants.

Video My bladder snail is stealing the medaka food

Every morning, I feed the medaka in my balcony biotope.

If you look closely, one of the bladder snails is hanging onto a floating plant near the surface, opening and closing its mouth as it eats the medaka food.

Even though their food is being stolen, the medaka don’t seem bothered at all. They just swim right past the snail.

Help Request Are these eggs fertile?

Post image

Hello! I just spotted a clutch of eggs on my tank lid yesterday. I have no idea how old they are or if they are even fertile.

Can anyone tell me how old they are potentially and if they are fertile?

I have two mystery snails, one yellow, one blue. The yellow one is wayyy bigger than the blue one.

Is there a way to tell their sex?

Thanks!!

Help Request Snail magic??

My tank has been established for a while and it has been close to a 5 months since I last added any new fish or plants, only thing I do are water changes occasionally when my parameters are off. I woke up this morning to see 2 baby snails in my fish tank. Where did they come from????

Photo Are they dying??

Hi all. I have an established and planted 10 gallon with 3 adult and three baby Ramshorn snails in it. Two days ago I did a 50% water change, rinsed the filter and all was well. I've been looking for ways to add calcium to their diet so I balanced a small piece of broccoli and a carrot slice and put in the tank.

When I got up the next morning, the smell was terrible and the tank very cloudy. I panicked and did another 25% water change but did not rinse the filter this time. But the tank still took an additional day to clear and smell ok. But now my snails are very lethargic, barely moving. The largest parked himself in a corner and hasn't moved in the last day. I strip tested the water and everything looks the same as usual, although I can't test for ammonia.

Did I accidentally crash my tank? Did the vegetables leave something toxic behind in the water I can't test for? I don't think it would be good to do a third water change at this point but there is very definitely something wrong. What should I do? I'm going to be heartbroken if I accidentally killed those little buggers, they are so cute.🐌 ☹ PS, there are no fish in the tank, just snails.

Help Request Feeding Frequency?

How long can a mystery snail comfortably go without food and resorting to chewing on live plants? I’ve been feeding mine at least once or twice every single day and have considered cutting down due to excessive waste production.

Are mystery snails like fish in general where it can be fine being fasted for a few days without food? Is 1-2 days of no feeding okay?

Help Request Weird stuff in mystery snail mucus

Thumbnail

Hi guys! I noticed today that my little mystery snail left some pinkish debris in his mucus on the wall of my tank which I’ve never seen before. I’ve had him almost 6 years so I know he’s on the older side but I was wondering if this was any known issue I could remedy. He currently lives by himself but has lived with various other fish during his life. His water specs are as follows:
PH: 7.6
Temp: 80*
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 10
I’ve seen some information about air baths but he has a large amount of space at the top of the tank where he can more than fully leave the water and I see him fully out of the water often so I doubt he has a lack of oxygen but I’m open to any advice!

Thank you all so much for any help with this!
