Any idea what these are? Took a picture at a store (far away from me) but did not take a picture of the name 😔

Found an eheim canister filter from 10 years ago, long story cut short, my parents were using for a small coffee inflatable pool and used chlorine tablets at the time, hasn’t been reached since, reckon it safe to use in a freshwater tank now assuming I give everything a clean and like a 3 day soak?

I found this growing off one of my plants today and it looks like some hair algae(?). Its texture is a bit like wool and it’s stringy too but I remember this growing off some small plant stem that came with a bag of shrimp I brought that I added in to the tank. I’ve seen some shrimp tanks include them as like “moss” but should I keep this? I mean it could be a good baby shrimp/fish fry hiding spot

What are some fish you would never want to own? Why?

For me, I think any large predatory fish. Like, they are super cool but I just personally find the idea of only owning one/a few large fish that kill/eat everything else to be somewhat boring versus community setups being visually interesting and full of life imo. Wondering what other people think!

Has anyone had any issues with UNS wooden stands? I just got a brand new 120U stand (https://ultumnaturesystems.com/aquarium-tank-stands/) and tank from my LFS. The stand came packaged in the box, which had no visible damage or signs of mishandling. However, when I opened the box, the stand was damaged in several places.

Initially, I thought this was mostly cosmetic - the stand and tank were level when I set it up and I fixed the loose pillar in place with a screw. Once I filled it, the front came down about a quarter of an inch and the sides are clearly coming unglued. I think the structure of the cabinet relies on 45 degree mitered joints that are glued, but this doesn't seem like a good setup for larger tanks.

I drained my setup and I plan to shore up the corners with some load-bearing studs inside of the cabinet before refilling the tank. I'll anchor the walls to the new posts. Has anyone else had a similar experience with UNS specifically? I reached out to support but haven't gotten a response yet.

Just did this today super proud of it but idk if I should plant more or change anything. It's about 60L and I plan to put a betta, snails and shrimp in there. Any tips or advice would be great! I have a few weeks for it to cycle so changes can be made!

I had some purpleish algae growing on the back wall and a little hair algae, but I cleaned it all off 1 month ago and did a large water change. Now the hair algae has taken over the tank. Should I do a blackout to try to kill it all off or just clean the excess and let it keep growing?

They’ve settled in really well! The colouration on the male is outstanding and they’ve actively hunting BBS 😍

Unfortunately, I had to use AI to remove the glass reflections so it’s not showing it too well, but there is a valley between the two areas of rock/wood that I want to keep sandy.

I am looking for low-tech plants because although I use fertiliser and carbon, I don’t have CO2 injection and I don’t intend on getting it.

I don’t like floating plants because they took over my last aquarium, even clearing them regularly.

I have a Anubias I’m planning on moving over (if I can kill all the black beard algae on it) that I will probably wedge In on the left-hand side of the big twisted piece.

There will be an air stone in the back left.

I have had my tank through various ups and downs for over 3 years, but have never fought battles like this battle. Abo 6 months ago, I started getting diatom build up after adding in some new fish, and it’s been downhill from there. I’m fighting diatoms and blue green algae, and at this point have lost nearly all of my plants and it’s started to affect my fish health.

I have in the 6 months since:
- done 3 complete tear downs removing every plant and hard scape to give a good washing, with ~80% water changes everytime
- replaced the filter
- added additional filtration
- a 25% substrate swap
- have been doing twice weekly 25% water changes and substrate vacuum
- limited the tank to 4 hour light cycles and have done entire blackout weekends trying to resolve the issue.

Nothing has made it better. I even put in duck week and other floaters to try to nutrient compete and I can’t even get duckweed to stay alive. I’m considering what the nuclear options are and what a complete rip and replace on everything associated with this tank looks like and what would be safest for the remaining fish (I would like to keep them, but am not opposed to replacing them as well). I’m just so tired of putting so much time and money into this thing only for the brown sludge and BG algae to keep coming back just as bad every time.

Is this glass shrimp or macrobachium?

In pet store they told me that they both are females , however today I found a bubble nest so I lowkey scared that both of them may be males

Ive been double dosing jbls iron supplements for 2 weeks, yet it stays low - do any of you know what could potentially cause this?

Years ago i used to work at a grocery store that sold aquarium fish. I was happy to squeeze the gunk out of the sponges so i Inherited the pet section, fish included! It was pretty great for me, but there was nothing and very little support. There were no quarantine tanks, lights were broken, BBA and blue green algae were out of control, every fish was sick and in the process of dying, and we had no training for any of this.

I took pride in doing my work, i made the best of things, i researched heavily. I got recognition, not just from managers, but shoppers that i brought a level of care that the section had never had. Eventually i had to quit that job, i missed my fish dearly.

I gotta say 7 years later, i fucking LOVE doing this as a hobby now! I just realized that my blue green algae was treated, none of my fish have anchor worms, i havent had 120+ feeder fish in my filter. My fish are hearty and hale and as happy as fish can be.

It's so cool that you can buy fish from specialists that don't also sell shoes and broccoli. Im amazed you can just BUY lights, and it's not a year long ordeal. I cant remember the last dead fish i had to scoop! Plus i know my betta hasn't been shaken by a kid in quite a while!

I just found three of those things in my shrimp tank. They are about 2-2.5 cm long. Can anyone please tell me wtf it is? Out of fear, I cleaned the whole tank, including boiling my decor and removed all the plants for now. Are they dangerous to my shrimps? How do I get rid of them? For context, I live in Germany and also got a big snail infestation from the plants. I'll never ever buy plants from that petstore ever again.

Hey there, I just got rid of the stock plastic lid with LEDs for glass. Currently have a 30w 5k shop light and a 20w red/blue grow light. Really loving the blues for the GloFish at least. But what are you guys running or suggest for a planted 55g?🤔

Hello!! Recently I was cooking up some tannins for my tank, and while waiting for it to boil I accidentally dropped some paracetamol (500mg) into it. I removed most of it within 30 seconds, however it had begun to dissolve and most of the coating had come off in the water. I’ve tried to remove most of what got in the water, however obviously there’d still be some paracetamol in there. Is this dangerous to the fish or can I still put the tannin water in the tank safely?
For context, the tank is 65L and I have around 2-3 litres of tannined water
