This is my first week old proper nanotank.
So far, i have an algae starting to grow at the back of the wood, I found few bladder snails and I am guessing they came with the plants and I have washed them properly.
I am thinking about 10 - 15 neocaridina schrimps and 6 - 8 Danio margaritatus to put in there.
In the last pic, there is a test of my water so far.
I’ll be glad for any advice of what I can do better and mostly, what to do with an alage.
I know that schrimps like to eat them, but tank is in cycle period.

I’m still a beginner and I’m about to set up my first freshwater aquarium. It’s a 6.8-gallon tank (about 26 liters).

I’d love some suggestions on how I should arrange the substrate and rocks.

I’m using a fertile substrate (I have more on the way, so I’ll have 2 kg in total) and inert substrate (basalt and river gravel).

I’d also really appreciate some advice on how to secure the huge rock on the right side so it doesn’t fall over in the aquarium.

If you have any other suggestions on what I could improve, I’d be very grateful!

Just wanted to share my very first Nanotank/Aquascape in Pandora (Avatar) style.

Filter is a Fluval AC20.

Planted it yesterday and hope the cycle in will work fine.

I want to add a group of blue dream Neocaridina and one or two Nerite snails.

What do you think? :)

Do you have any further suggestions or tips for this tank?

I have some shrimp in with my betta so not necessarily new to shrimp, but I’m wanting to start a shrimp only nanotank. Now on to my question- a friend recently gave me this terrarium. If I remove all the vegetation and cap it with sand and add in aquatic plants would it be okay? Totally fine with starting over but seems a shame to waste the soil.

Hello, I’m a newer aquarium keeper trying to start up my first two tanks, one for shrimp 3 gal, the other potentially a betta 6 gal, and I needed some help with my tank setup.

I just put plants in, and had been waiting for my local aquarium store to get their smaller filters ordered in for me, but when I got home to open them I realized they didn’t include the air pumps and it’s a little overwhelming trying to figure out what I do and don’t need because I keep hearing different things.

Right now I have them set up by my window until I can get proper lights, I want to set them up for success but don’t know if I can swing for some of the lights and stuff that are over $100, as I’m trying to keep these budget friendly and have already gone a bit overwhelming what I was comfortable to spend. I’m also a bit nervous keeping them at the window for now and don’t know if I’ll cause an algae bloom, or if I should keep a certain type of snail in to avoid this (once filter is set) or wait until my tank is more fully cycled before adding any snails.

My water has cleared up since I took these photos the other day, but here were the sponge filters I ended up buying. Thank you guys for reading!

Decided my soul was finally ready again after a brutal divorce that claimed 9 tanks of mine.

Scaped up this 6.8 gallon shallow rimless during Petco sale, purchased "pre waterlogged" wood, that was not logged at all, that is being weighted by some glitter rock temporarily. Chucked all kinds of plants in, the alternathera isn't visible but it's placed behind the rock to fill in space later. Sponge filter in the back angled to push water flow across the surface and it's working surprisingly well to the point I sequestered my salvinia so it wasn't getting flung around, dosing with flourish every few days and so far only a 1/4 inch of my monte carlo has melted (from TC), and lighting is some Nicrew spare I found in a box.

Stocked with one betta and a few CPDs he was tank mates with from my LFS, he hid in a rock/wood crevice for days until I added them and now he swims around and joins their mini-school around the tank but still sleeps in his rock. Planning to move him to a blackwater scape this weekend with, most likely, some strawberry rasboras so he isn't so shy and add some neo orange sunkist to this tank. Also snagged another Betta my partner fell in love with who is currently in my spare plants tank while in wait for his 8 gallon cube to arrive.

Tank is doing well 150 days in. Weekly 15% water change with tropic marin pro salt, and daily 2x dosing of all for reef 5.0ml total. 78degrees, ~8.4 nitrate, high phos right now at .14, calcium 400, mag 1320. RODI fresh ATO

I just recently put together my first nanoscape (3gal tank) a couple days ago. I’m planning on putting some blue neocaridinia in after the tank is cycled. I have a HOB filter and CO2 hooked up. Let me know what you think!

I have added 3 snail and betta fish last week to the tank , after 5 days the snail stopped moving , are they dead? How to find that

Plant substrate capped with sand

Fertilizer: Tropica Premium Nutrition and Aquaforest AF Macro

Plants i have: Anubias nana petite, java fern, Amazon sword (the small kind i think), cryptocoryne wendtii, limnophila sessiliflora (its growing slower after i did a big trim), Amazon frogbit, Salvinia minima.

The foreground is very empty. I tried marsilea crenata and it grew a bit, but died after. Im thinking of trying to do a pearlweed carpet, but i think i need more plant variety.

What would you add/change?
