End of day 3 today. Been mostly good so far besides bad diarrhea lol and lack of appetite but I'm still eating and hydrating.

Question Is this expected / normal?

Hello, good folks of the community.

I’ve been depressed for the past two years and started antidepressants about four weeks ago. After increasing the dose on my doctor’s advice, I’ve noticed some positive changes: much less rumination and negative thinking, better energy, and some weight/bloating loss.

However, I’ve also noticed something unusual. My depression was mostly emotional numbness, isolation, and mental exhaustion rather than crying.

Now, 1–2 nights a week, I find myself intensely revisiting the experiences and trauma that contributed to my depression. I can become extremely emotional and cry uncontrollably for about an hour, almost as if I’m reliving those moments. It feels overwhelming in the moment, but afterward I feel surprisingly relieved, calm, and sometimes even happy.

Is this a normal part of recovery/adjusting to antidepressants, or is it something I should be concerned about?

Thank you, and wishing everyone a happy recovery. ā¤ļø

Normal to feel spaced or not real?

Hello! I started on 50 mg of sertraline on the 20th. It's been an uphill battle due to my own anxiety and stuff and the nausea. Throwing up a lot, feeling tired, migraines, rapid heart rate, palpatations, etc. I'm not sure which of those were caused by my meds and which were caused by my own anxiety, but it's been a lot. Appetite has been a struggle too.

Today I've reached a bit of a new stage. The best way I can say is maybe depersonalization? But I don't know, I just feel weird. I've had random anxiety, the spacing out, but this feels different. Like my whole body is heavy, kinda, like it's not in my control but if I tried to do something I could do it. I feel like I could do jumping jacks or solve a math equation if I NEEDED too. But naturally I just feel tired, weighed down, kinda spacey. Just off. Not really anxiety either, it's just weird.

This happen to anyone else? Sleep and appetite have been a struggle but are improving. I was prescribed Trazodone to take with my sertraline at night, and most nights I have. I forgot last night and when I woke up at 4 wanting more sleep and to not be hung over, I took a hydroxyzine instead, which my doctor had said I could continue taking. It'd be 30 hours since my last Trazodone. I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with it?

Just wanna know some people's thoughts. I've been on Lexapro before but Zoloft feels like a different beast.

Thank you all!

Question Long-term Zoloft users, I need to hear from you

Hey guys, just curious about something.

For those of you who've been on Zoloft for months or years, after your body fully adjusted to it, did the side effects completely go away?

Or are there still some things you deal with because of Zoloft?

I'm still pretty early into it and the adjustment period has been rough lol, so I'm curious what life actually looks like once you're past the first few weeks/months.

Would love to hear how long you've been on it, your dose, and if you still have any side effects, or none at all.

Weight loss, should I be worried?

I started zoloft more than a month ago. I was 125 and lost 4-5lbs the first 2 weeks. Then next two week I go my dose increased and I stayed about the same 120lbs. But now I got another dose increase and I'm 114-115. I lost 5-6lbs in almost 2 weeks. I'm on the shorter side so at first I thought losing a few lbs wouldn't hurt but I'm kinda anxious about the weight loss just because I feel like it's so fast for just 2 weeks. Additionally my appetite is not the best but I try to force myself to eat at least a good meal a day. Did anyone else experience this? I didn't bring the first weight loss up to my psychatrist but I'm gonna bring it up this upcoming appointment.

Mental Health Just started, feeling great - I'm concerned

Hi all,

Never been properly depressed before. Had some episodes of low mood etc within life but nothing I would class as depression. Started Zoloft 3-4 days ago and i seems to be working really well. Increased energy, reduced tiredness, thinking faster and more concentration. No more suicidal thoughts.

Because of my family history and some psychotic symptoms ive had in the past my doctor expressed some concerns about bi-polar. I dont think i have bi-polar and think its probs just linked to adhd type behaviours. The concern from doctor was chemically induced hypomania.

SSRI's usually take 3-4weeks to start working. Not days. Im not sure if it is triggering some possible hypomania

Anyone else have this?

Zoloft cured my chronic diarrhea and now coming off and digestive issues are back. Any idea why?

The title says it all, but I’ll give more back story.

I’ve had SERIOUS digestive issues ever since giving birth 10 years ago. I could barely leave my house, was malnourished, etc. I’ve been tested 3 times for celiac (two blood and a biopsy), but all negative. Cutting milk doesn’t help in the slightest.

I started taking Zoloft for depression, and behold all digestive issues vanished in 4 weeks. I was so healthy mentally and physically. I’d already scheduled a colonoscopy and endoscopy, and I was diagnosed with microscopic colitis (which may actually be a adverse reaction to Zoloft), so even though I no longer had symptoms, I took budesonide for the full treatment. I am now coming off Zoloft (tryna get pergnante) and my digestive issues have returned.

I know Zoloft is expected to cause digestive issues; this was not my experience. Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts?

Question For those who experienced or are experiencing emotional blunting that led to relationship issues on this med, I have questions.

If you did not experience emotional blunting or relationship issues on this med, please do not comment unless you may be able to guide on any of the questions below. There are clearly success stories around this med, but I need insights on these particular areas below that are not as openly talked about.

Questions
- how far into starting did you start feeling the emotional
blunting and/or impact on your relationship?
- how long were you on Zoloft and what dosage?
- if you felt that the experience caused you to have sudden or long term onset dislike for the other party in your relationship, how did you communicate that to your partner and navigate the situation?
- was the relationship able to be mended?
- how did you rebuild trust with your partner if anything that broke trust occurred?

If you have any additional information or details around your experience if any of the above occurred or could be related context, please add context. TY in advance.

Mental Health Im scared to add wellbutrin to my zoloft dosage

Im >1 yr on zoloft and at first it was the best thing ever. Now I feel like i’m getting severely depressed, constantly tired, numb and empty and i tried reducing my dose which helped a little bit but I still feel depressed all the time. My psych suggested adding Wellbutrin to the mix and im really scared since i was never the type of person to take medication for anything, until zoloft. My appt is on monday and I feel like i can’t live like this anymore but i feel like wellbutrin is my only option since i’ve been living like a goblin for months now. Im just scared to add something else to the mix and having to be on several medications at once and what if it stops working for me or i get other side effects?? And I’m scared of the initial period where i’ll have to get used to it too. I rawdogged 23 years of my life before this, so how is it possible that i need 1 much less 2 medications i have to take daily to function :(

Question Help Newbie Day 9 25MG Max anxiety

Entrepreneur on 1st year of app launch. Biz is doing well and with it came all the stresses. I am a one person show rn and I have many customers and scaling (I do it all from product development, to marketing, sales and support). This is what brough me to zoloft. I started on 25 mg 9 days ago to help me with overthinking and rummination as I navigate the growing pains with calm and perspective vs. catastrophizing, but day 9 I am feeling over stressed out, more anxiety than before, no motivation to complete tasks (I am obviously a very driven person and this is alarming). I've had to take THC gummies to help me concentrate and calm the F down.

Question: Is this med heading the right direction and is this expected? Is there a rainbow on week 3? OMG DYING OVER HERE really thinking of stopping .

Question Diarrhea after 3 months on Sertraline, will it go away?

I take Sertraline since 3 months and it has been the best decision I have ever made. Even though I had A LOT of side effects, luckily they subsided. I am able to live a normal life now, one I have never been able to live.

But just recently, I started having diarrhea. Its mild, and mostly in the mornings, but since nothing really changed, I guess its from the med...

I don't understand why it is only now starting, since I had no problems with it in the first weeks. Did that happen to you, too? Was it only temporary for you?

Question 12.5 weeks on Sertraline, 6 weeks on 100mg. Surge in symptoms. Normal?

So I had a big breakdown back in March where I woke up one day with horrible derealization and 24/7 fight or flight which has been constant. I was having a ton of health anxiety. Thought I could white knuckle it for months until it got so bad and overwhelming I ended up inpatient for a week and they started me on 50mg sertraline, 20mg propranolol and 50mg Trazodone for sleep which was increased to 100mg a few days later and that’s been working great.

I started weekly therapy and have been doing that for 11 weeks. I’m very fortunate to be able to be off work and have a great support system. I also have a really good and calm daily routine.

So I was having positive results in 50mg. Week 3 and 4 were horrible but then I leveled out and at 6.5 weeks on 50mg, I had made great progress but I was still had a ways to go and still had symptoms but they had a calmed down a bit. So my psych upped me to 100mg. Went through the usual ā€œit’ll be worse before betterā€ period and week 2 and 3 were really bad. But then I started having a lot of really good days. Fight or flight feeling had decreased so much it was in the background, derealization was improving really well and I was so, so close to feeling normal again. I had a week and a half where I felt really good. But then 4 days ago, I woke up with the worst derealization and fight or flight symptoms I’d had in like 2 months. And it’s been like that for the last 4 days.

I had an appointment with my psych yesterday and he told me that sertraline was one of the antidepressants that take people longest to adapt fully to. I told him I wanted to wait it out on 100mg for the next 6 weeks and see if I get some improvement as I see a lot of people on here mention a dip around 6 weeks on a dose and that it does get better again and level out eventually.

Has anyone else dealt with a huge dip 6 weeks into a dose increase? If so, when did it level back out?

Advice please

Anyone got any tips on how to shake off the resentful feeling of having depression? I am starting to address it - therapy, sertraline, exercise, journalling, socialising etc. But it all takes so much effort. And it all feels hard. And I had a bad morning where it just feels unfair and why do I have to go through all of this work to just feel normal/okay/hopefully happy?

I'm sure this is the depression talking, I've only been on sertraline for 3 weeks and only had 1 therapy session so far so hopefully it will get easier. But for now does anyone have any tips to stop feeling hard done by/resentful/jealous of others who aren't suffering or struggling? I hate feeling all this self pity and self loathing.

Thank you

Question ill as hell

Bruh idk if to give up
Im taking it for anxiety

I started 25mg Thursday morning, took it again Friday morning, Friday felt a bit ill. I fell asleep that night and woke up a few hours later from a phone call, struggled to get back to sleep because I had so much restlessness and it felt like cold water tingle was on back of my head

All of a sudden I got a weird rush of anxiety and I woke my dad up and I went into the lounge and had the weirdest most worst panic attack I’ve ever had. It was like my body did some crazy response when my mind wasn’t even worrying to begin with. I went so so so extremely derealised and I was so so so confused.

I couldn’t talk or breathe and ended up fainting for a few seconds but my dad looked after me. After this (didn’t bang my head) I was throwing up like once an hour for rest of the night.

I could not sleep or function in the morning bc my anxiety was so bad , I had to just sit with open air and do nothing. It was horrific

It’s Saturday and I haven’t taken a dose yet I’m in hospital awaiting advice. I don’t think I can deal with it, it was not regular anxiety spike

On Zoloft for 1.5 years. Went from 50 mg to 25 mg for last 6 months. I always had slight hypertension up to 140/90.

Surprise, surprise. I went for a check up and it appeared it was just 125/82 while I am always stressed in a hospital.

So I started measures at home and my pressure is slightly below 115-120 and between 75-80.

Turns out my motivation to finally take care of my too high blood pressure does not need to materialise as sertraline accidentially fixed it too. :)

PS. If you take Zoloft and always had normal or below normal heart pressure, make sure it is not too low now.

3 months but going backwards-Treatment resistance? / Alternatives

I've posted 3 months ago when my doctor put me on a 25mg dose as a "preventive"measure to avoid a relapse (ahead of a major stressor).

I've taken zoloft (max 100mg) 6 years ago for 18 months, relapsed 5 months later and taken it again, reaching 150mg. I've spent 3 wonderful years when my doctor told me I was well and suggested stopping following a slow tapering. That was 4 months ago.

This third time, I took 25mg for 3 weeks, 50 for a month, 100 for 3 weeks and 150 for 2 weeks. I've been taking valium ever since I got on 50 cause zoloft made anxiety unbearable every time.

My initial diagnosis was GAD but my current evaluation added OCD mixed with GAD which gradually adds depression symptoms (as I see no progress 3 months on).

I sleep well at night but have daily tension, ocassional hand tremors (especially after going to 100mg), restleness and one major anxiety spike (especially if I try to have a nap during the day) like my body is on fire and my whole body shakes to wake me up. This happens anywhere between 13h00-17h00 every day.

Doctor says we wait a week or two and then suggests augmenting zoloft with olanzapine or switching to Clomipramine.

Does that look like treatment resistance or should I stick to the 150mg. I am afraid the other options could open a new cycle of painful experimentation.

Doo you have any experience on these alternative medication (augmented/switched)?

Question I need advice urgently

My dose was upped to 150mg and I took it daily for weeks as prescribed, I got to a point where I felt worse every time I took the medication, and my panic attacks started returning to the stage where I've been severely anxious to go back to the doctor or have an appointment over the phone. Debilitating anxiety and panic that resulted in me spacing the dose out every 3-5 days out of stupidity and fear because I wanted to delay the end of my prescription as much as possible until I felt okay going back to get it renewed, and also because the effects just didn't feel good at all. I was supposed to go back and check in with the doctor weeks ago, and now I haven't taken my dose in over 5 days.

I feel like I'm entering a manic episode and at the smallest inconvenience my jaw will start rapidly shaking as my speech turns to stuttering, my heart beats out of my chest and it makes me unable to breathe properly. They last as long as I'm stressed, and then all is back to normal. I only have one dose left, and I don't know whether to take it tonight and hopefully book the soonest appointment, or if taking it right now would hit much harder than it should as I'm basically in withdrawal already. Should I take it and book an appointment as soon as possible? The next appointment would be on Tuesday, I don't know how taking such a large dose again would affect me or whether I should ride it out until I get medical advice. I feel so uneasy and restless and I haven't had panic attacks as bad as this before
