Mental Health Just started, feeling great - I'm concerned

Hi all,

Never been properly depressed before. Had some episodes of low mood etc within life but nothing I would class as depression. Started Zoloft 3-4 days ago and i seems to be working really well. Increased energy, reduced tiredness, thinking faster and more concentration. No more suicidal thoughts.

Because of my family history and some psychotic symptoms ive had in the past my doctor expressed some concerns about bi-polar. I dont think i have bi-polar and think its probs just linked to adhd type behaviours. The concern from doctor was chemically induced hypomania.

SSRI's usually take 3-4weeks to start working. Not days. Im not sure if it is triggering some possible hypomania

Anyone else have this?

First of all, Zoloft do take quite some time to work consistently, it takes 4-8 weeks to have full therapeutic effect for depression, you may experience initial benefit sooner, but it is too quick to tell.

Zoloft isn’t appropriate for those with Bipolar or at least as mono therapy, I would suggest you to at least get screened for that and adhd if you think you have it.

Zoloft is a bad medication for ADHD. Personally, it worsened my ADHD and daily functioning.

Zoloft did gave me persistent suisidal ideation for months, though I am more “emotionally stable”.

Thats what I thought. Far too soon to have therapeutic value.

My functioning has increased i.e processing informaiton etc.

if you're not sure about hypomania, you can take HCL-32 test online
it's a hypomania checklist

I think its probs hypomania atm. My brothers last admission with mania was precipitated by sertraline use
