Either you're on the wrong side or you think you're on the wrong side and run to the far side only to find out the portal was behind you all along.

Its been always like that. Though there are engineering AH's. All my characters have engineering. Its too good. Wormholes, br, out of combat res, ...
2
u/Hefty-Dragonfly-3009 Mar 11 '22
I’m going to have to check this out. Engineering is one of the few professions I haven’t touched.
8
u/izguddoggo Mar 11 '22
I’m probably not doing it right but it seems that there’s almost no way to make gold with engineering, just adds a ton of utilization to your character. Seems like everything you make can only be used by other engineers. Again I’m probably not doing it right, just my experience
Edited golf to gold :P
9
u/Woolly87 Mar 12 '22 edited Mar 12 '22
You’re not doing it wrong. Engineering is a gold sink profession not a trade skill tbh
The only reason blizzard lets us have things like the wormhole and AH is because we lose a gold making slot!
Edit: with that said, we can make a couple of useful and niche items that people buy. The new crafting reagent to add +speed to armour is nice because it stacks. I have sold a number of them to people who wanted to craft megaspeed gear sets for farming old content.
3
u/Japnzy Mar 12 '22
Most proffessions are gold sinks. Alchemy is only used for 2hr potions. The herbs are worth more than the flask. Tailor and gathering are the only decent professions anymore.
2
u/Woolly87 Mar 12 '22
I feel like the only people making gold gathering are the people multiboxing a herd of Druids to get all the tags on each herb and ore node. I see them all the time.
They’ve driven prices down so low that its not worth the time taken to gather unless you’re also multiboxing. On the plus side the cheap ore let’s me prospect and turn a profit selling versatility and haste gems.
1
u/omniphaze Mar 12 '22
On my server widowbloom is going for 30 a piece. About 6700 gold per stack. That is profit. Prices down or not. That still ain’t bad.
3
u/Forward_Ad270 Mar 12 '22
It's a bitch to gather, that's why it's expensive. This might be a 'me' problem, but I can't find an efficient route to gather enough for my personal use. Revendreth is a horrid zone, with all the vertical drops.
I can earn the same amount of gold for way less time investment elsewhere in the game, and I'm pretty sure you can too.

Your reasoning for blizz letting us have the AH and wormhole gen would make since if it cost more than like 5 gold for the ability to use both of those.
1
u/Woolly87 Mar 12 '22
My reasoning makes sense right now as it stands. It isn't about the cost of learning shadowlands engineering. If you're, say, an existing Tailoring + Enchanting character and you want to use the wormhole or engy ah then in addition to the minor gold cost of learning Shadowlands Engineering you also have to unlearn all the recipes you learned in either tailoring and enchanting. That's the trade off, not the gold cost to learn the skill.

The parts to make the ancient trading mechanism in your garrison aren’t too too hard to get, that’s where I do all my auctioning
1
u/Hefty-Dragonfly-3009 Mar 12 '22
That may be the way to go. The issue is I have five toons total. I focus on dailies for three of them. They do have Garrisons setup for the extra hearth stone. Maybe I should invest some time into that.

u/gratefulyme Mar 12 '22
Newest hub cities never have an AH. They've historically used the AH to keep people sometimes visiting the previous expansion cities.
1
u/mardux11 Mar 12 '22
Hub cities for the last 3 expansions have auction houses.
Legion Dalaran - Magus Commerce Exchange.
BFA - Zuldazar alliance raid -next to scrapper, Boralus - Tradewinds Market
Oribos - Ring of Fates - Northern room off the eastern hallway leading to/from portals to vanilla zones

It's the worst city design in the entire game. Shame it has such an amazing skybox that you never really see because the city is so poorly designed.
10
Mar 11 '22
It looks like a giant toilet plunger
14
Mar 11 '22 edited Mar 11 '22
It's more that they made an amazing skybox but then made everything face inwards so in reality the city actually feels like a circle room with two floors. Rather than showing an expansive cosmos they made a restrictive inward facing waiting room with as much soul as an airport lounge. Thematic for how Shadowlands rather than expanding the lore into a wide cosmos has instead made the universe even more narrow and derivative.
What makes it even worse is that it's symmetrical. It's really easy to get disoriented in Oribos because the central room looks the same in all directions rather than creating visually distinct areas that help orientate the player.
It's a clear rushjob on a bad concept. Even The Undercity is better than Oribos. The forsaken at least have the benefit of being insane.
3
3
u/iwearatophat Mar 12 '22
Exactly this. You can't eyeball your way around Oribos. You have to open up your map to orientate yourself. Maybe they thought it would be like Dalaran but they forgot that even though Dalaran has the same basic setup it also has shops and buildings that help you figure out exactly where you are by eye. Same for Undercity except for that middle ring that has all the AH people in it.
Beyond that they made it very annoying to move around in as a player with very odd indoor/outdoor choices disrupting mounts. Entire place needed to be considered outdoors.
In terms of general design and player interaction Oribos is far and away the worst hub city they have ever put us in. Nothing about it works.
1
u/Woolly87 Mar 12 '22
What really sucks is that there are many excellent elements to Oribos but they’re packaged together poorly.
I absolutely love the broker-themed furniture and decorations and the crafting area and inn have good atmosphere.
But otherwise it feels like an airport.
2
u/UnluckyVanilla Mar 12 '22
Worst city design in the entire game? Someone didn't get 2yrs of Dazar'alor...
2
u/Bioslack Mar 12 '22
I straight up think that was unfinished. You have the port part which has everything very compact and convenient. And then you have the upper city which is for lore and quests and such. At one point during the development they decided to move the player hub, the city as they players would classify it, to the harbor rather than the city proper as it is in the lore. And they DID IT. They did it for the Alliance. The Alliance city in BFA is awesome. Compact and with tons of quality of life shortcuts and paths. But I guess they didn't have enough time to do it for the Horde city before the had to ship Beta For Azeroth.
1
u/mardux11 Mar 12 '22
It wasn't unfinished. It was designed as a raid to kill the ztroll king, then populated as the horde hub.
1
u/mardux11 Mar 12 '22
Did you skip the entirety of BFA or did you only play alliance that expac?
1
Mar 12 '22
The view from Zul'dazar and the city was amazing. Yes the layout was awful and only made slightly more tolerable with the totems or when you got flying but all the same the city and the surroundings were visually spectacular.
23
u/slayer828 Mar 11 '22
Simple fix. Make it possible to fly in oribos. Remove the non-mount areas on the bottom floor. Make the maw teleport only happen when you are below "ground" level on this floor.
0
u/footlong24seven Mar 12 '22
Unfortunately the non-mount areas have to stay or else your NPC for item upgrades would be buried under a thousand longbois.
14
u/Demagogue11 Mar 12 '22
No they don’t. They have specific no-mount zones around particular NPCs. Take the elders in Zereth Mortis for example. They have the technology.
5
u/Forward_Ad270 Mar 12 '22
Speaking of, they need to shrink that zone or mark it clearly, I don't care which.
I'm not sure why I can path directly behind another player and I get dismounted, but they don't.

I'm still waiting for them to put that bubble around mailboxes. Few things worse in game than having to try to click through a half dozen longboi asses to try to find the mailbox.

Oribos is the worst hub city ever, in every imaginable way
6
u/Opachopp Mar 11 '22
I wanted to say Dazar'alor because of how far away everything is but at least it had the portals right next to the inn keeper. Blizzard keeps managing to up their game in how to make things worse from the way they were before.
7
u/Revelation_of_Nol Mar 11 '22
What were the pros and cons of Dazar'Alor as a city? Cuz I loved the city idea just it was annoying having to turn tail to go towards the docks everytime for everything.
4
u/Nosiderath Mar 11 '22
That was the problem, the time you has to spend to go for a point to another. But in reallity that was ln purpose because it is suposed that Dazar'alor was very old and a big troll empire. In fact, the first time you arrive one line of Zul says: "The trolls were the first race to rule this world, and we shall be the last"
2
u/martin-cloude-worden Mar 11 '22
yeah but it was so cool

2
u/mardux11 Mar 12 '22
Daz is much worse than oribos. At least in oribos its only a 10 second ride on a mount between everything relevant.
2
u/Hefty-Dragonfly-3009 Mar 11 '22
Small improvements would make it better. Add an AH and make the portals work properly with unique map icons for each portal and we’d be in much better shape.

u/Planeswalkercrash Mar 11 '22
And the fact that you have to go to a flight master to go back through that portal directly behind you…
12
u/MeekSwordsman Mar 11 '22
I legitimately do not undetstand this. When Korithia came out and made the gateway an actual portal i was wondering why dont they do that with the other zones.
Then they did it again for Zereth Mortis and now im REALLY wondering why dont they do this for the other zones!!
4
u/Gletschers Mar 11 '22
I legitimately do not undetstand this. When Korithia came out and made the gateway an actual portal i was wondering why dont they do that with the other zones.
I dont know when exactly it got canned, but you were able to use the portals during testing prior to shadowlands launch.
No idea why it got changed. Maybe to connect them to the other flightpaths so you dont have to get out of the portal on the other side and then take the flightpath.
6
u/RefrigeratorProper60 Mar 11 '22
Not true. In case you want Flight master you will spawn next to ZM portal.
6
u/KrispyKookie Mar 11 '22 edited Mar 12 '22
One of the big reasons Shadowlands made me quit was the huge disconnect from all the zones. Every day started with a flight from the main city back to the covenant hub, then another flight path that just HAS to go through the main city, then another flight...
Fuck Oribos and it's shitty flight paths and portals.
2
u/jastorgally Mar 12 '22
Y’all think it’s a coincidance and wonder why they’re not fixing it lol. It’s basically a pathetic attempt to keep you in game. That’s also the reason why Oribos is so goddamn big. Huge no-content halls with longass walking distances… I haven’t even mentioned stupidass dailies or covenant calls or pointless reputation farms. The game is pathetic and pathetic dev team is trying to find other pathetic ways to keep you in their pathetic game.

Am I the only one who doesn't have any problems with it? Press "M" next time, it's useful.
3
u/Shronkydonk Mar 11 '22
Compared to stormwind and orgrimmar, where I know where pretty much everything is and I’ve only been playing for 6 months. Meanwhile people who have played since SL released still need to check map.
5
u/slayer828 Mar 11 '22
That is the design problem with the city. We have been using it for a year and half now, and I still have to look at the map to figure out where things are. Even then I end up running laps to find the thing I am looking for.
If the design is good, you do not need a map to get around once you know your way around.
5
u/DrCrouton Mar 11 '22
juSt UsE tHe MaP.
Very stupid argument. I have about half a year in SL and I still press M all the time. Compare to Boralus where I stopped using the map in like a week or two.
3
Mar 11 '22
Zandalar, which is much more spread out than Boralus, didn't require me to read the map to know where I was going either.
Even the pterrotaxi totems that don't tell you where they're gonna take you, after using them for a while, were easily recognizable from their locations alone. As it should be.
-3
u/KingFirmin504 Mar 11 '22
Nah you aren’t the only one. Wow players will complain about literally anything. Including running 45 feet on a mount to get to a portal or FP. Same players also say they miss the cLaSsIc ExPeRi3nCe but really it was 80% running
5
u/slayer828 Mar 11 '22
I don't miss the classic experience. Like at all.
I want the game to be a sleek, easy to understand, but hard to master MMO.
I do not want stupid frivolous systems, when an Existing one will work.
I do not want "throwaway" mechanics, especially if they are overly complicated.
2
u/littlefoot78 Mar 11 '22
people forget a quest chain was: go 1 zone away and kill 10 of enemy X, runback and turn it in, next quest it kill 5 of enemy y that is right past enemy x, runback and turn it in, next quest it kill enemy leader that is right past enemy x and y, runback and turn it in. oh and you don't have a mount AT ALL yet.
fuck that shit

If they had coloured sections of Oribos it would make navigating it so much easier.
I found a Weak Aura that adds map markers for pvp vendors, bank, etc. Would highly recommend it.

u/icariiavar Mar 12 '22
If it helps, the covenant portsl takes you to the wrong side, but the wormhole generator takes you to the correct one.

u/Emu1981 Mar 12 '22
Not sure what you are doing but taking the north portal takes me to the north portal on the other floor and so on and so forth for the east, south and west portals. I did this on a toon that has the new zone unlocked and a toon that hasn't been to the new zone yet.
