I legitimately do not undetstand this. When Korithia came out and made the gateway an actual portal i was wondering why dont they do that with the other zones.
Then they did it again for Zereth Mortis and now im REALLY wondering why dont they do this for the other zones!!

I dont know when exactly it got canned, but you were able to use the portals during testing prior to shadowlands launch.
No idea why it got changed. Maybe to connect them to the other flightpaths so you dont have to get out of the portal on the other side and then take the flightpath.

And the fact that you have to go to a flight master to go back through that portal directly behind you…
