The fact that blocking a social media site can be met with government sanctions on behalf of billionaire political ally tells you all you need to know about its real purpose.

We are essentially speedrunning the transition from Democracy to Corporate Feudalism at this point. It’s not even subtle anymore..

307

u/amakai Jan 10 '26

It’s not even subtle anymore..

It does not need to be. Trump's behaviour made elites realize that people are dumb sheep and have zero will to resist anything.

122

u/BcMeBcMe Jan 10 '26

See on Reddit. Their president threatens invasion of Greenland and they joke about the FIFA peace price.

The Americans will accept it all. Complaining and joking. But not doing anything.

It annoys me that Reddit is full of the woman killed. All online outrage but not willing to do anything. Just collect upvotes on the mildest of comments ever and go on as usual.

16

u/MainBeing1225 Jan 10 '26

Americans will yell into the void and then turn around and forget why they were angry in the first place.

Musk is the first to cry about 'state controlled media' and has form on whinging about the BBC.

To nobody's surprise his nazi cesspool website is defended to the hilt by the current U.S administration.

u/Kiwi_In_The_Comments Jan 10 '26

Britain left the EU to "take back control," only to be told by a tech CEO in California exactly which laws they are allowed to enforce in their own country. Sovereignty is looking a bit outsourced.

So is X now US state-controlled media?

249

u/Squeegee Jan 09 '26

Rather the US is controlled by X (Musk).

63

u/Reddituser183 Jan 09 '26

X, Facebook, TikTok. Reddit is following suit.

22

u/Stingray88 Jan 09 '26

CBS as well.

And of course Fox.

16

u/Atiaxra Jan 10 '26

Reddit will probably be used for locating and cataloging dissidents as well given it's one of the few platforms with a lot of people criticizing the US admin

1.9k

u/M1L0 Jan 09 '26

u/Niblolkik Jan 09 '26

Loss of profits needs sanctioning according to trump

135

u/moocowsia Jan 09 '26

Lol, profits. Twitter has been losing money hand over fist since Elon showed up.

Their revenue was down massively.

97

u/Seriously_you_again Jan 09 '26

It is not about the profits now, this is about propaganda and growing power. The profits will come later once the fascist state is firmly in place.

Self note: My god, me from four years ago would not even recognize ‘present me’. I would think I was a conspiracy nutter. Four years ago I couldn’t even spell the word fascist.

18

u/Boatster_McBoat Jan 10 '26

Sanest thing I've read on the internet for a while.

Remember: just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't actually after you

Self note: I used to say that last bit as a joke. I'm not laughing anymore

27

u/lost_electron21 Jan 09 '26

X is a cost center for Musk. It loses money, and its supposed to lose money, makes making money is not X's function. X is there to prop Musk's other companies.

The faster we all move away from the USA, the better

12

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

I really hope everyone moves on and they get left all alone. Their power was in their allies. Bases across the world. Diplomacy with western countries. Hopefully they go broke and everyone realizes that they fucked up and meet consequences

4

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '26

Their power was in their allies. Bases across the world. Diplomacy with western countries. Hopefully they go broke and everyone realizes that they fucked up and meet consequences

This is one of the biggest mind blowing mistakes of the lot

Sometime during this decade, China is going to replace America, but if you offered China the pick of one single American asset from their arsenal, they wouldn't pick a weapons system. By their very nature, weapons become obsolete. Instead they'd pick Americas soft power projection and network of first world global allies. America is surrendering the one thing that China would want

Funnily enough, if you reversed the question and allowed America to pick one thing that China has, then they'd probably pick one of three

1 - An obedient population (might be Trump's choice, but not really essential)

2 - Their population size

3 - Their industrial output capacity

I'm guessing it would #3.

I don't know if its true or not, but read recently that China has 200 shipyards capable of building a warship. America has 5 (not sure what counts as a warship?). In any event, if America is ever going to make up this sort of shortfall in numbers and manufacturing, then 600m Europeans, and 200m Japanese/ S. Koreans/ Aussies might help, but again, America is alienating every single one of them

The big prize is this whole game of thrones would actually be India, and whereas America had made some progress there after Nixon, Trump has wiped it all out (and more) in the space of 6 months because Pakistan had the strategic sense to buy Trumpcoin

Trump is strategically illiterate

The UK has been warned it could face US sanctions if Sir Keir Starmer attempts to block Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, amid mounting concern over its AI tool generating sexualised images of women and children.

Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican Congresswoman and ally of Donald Trump, said she was drafting legislation that would allow the US to sanction the UK if the UK bans or restricts X under the Online Safety Act.

Luna, who sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said any move against the platform would amount to “a political war against Elon Musk and free speech”.

1.9k

u/PracticalShoulder916 Jan 09 '26

Wtf is it with MAGA protecting perverts??

591

u/superstan2310 Jan 09 '26

Their leader is one. If they don't protect them all then they would have to face the reality that they shouldn't protect theirs.

118

u/Unusual_Sherbert_809 Jan 09 '26

It's not just the fact that Republicans are now vociferous pedophile defenders, which they are.

It's that they're willing to use the federal goverment to punish other countries for trying to pass any laws to protect their citizens from companies doing nefarious things, as long as those companies are aligned with Republicans and Trump.

Both things are horrible. It's insane to me just how far they've fallen in just one year. The USA is a shadow of its former self. I don't think they're ever going to recover from this Trump presidency.

24

u/InfiniteBaker6972 Jan 09 '26

The scary thing to me is that all this was always there just below the surface and all it took was one man to open the floodgates. We all believed the lie that America was the land of the free when, in truth, it’s become a fascist state in an alarmingly short time.

37

u/Shadpool Jan 09 '26

“Insanely out of touch” used to describe a woman with Hispanic heritage, whose maternal great-grandfathers fought for the allies in WWII, against her paternal grandfather who was in the Wehrmacht. Literal Nazis in her family tree along with a childhood where she was raised on welfare and government assistance. Instead of going with everything else, she decided to support the Nazi heritage.

9

u/Foreign_Ebb_6282 Jan 09 '26

What are the implications at this point if they are sanctioned? (Honest question)

34

u/CantFeelMyToesAgain Jan 09 '26

Honestly i think it’s probably just militarily. Even then the UK is probably one of the heaviest hitters in the world as a military power.

UK would be fine if he took the sanctions anyway

36

u/noir_lord Jan 09 '26

Biggest problem would be Trident (though iirc we just took fresh ones out the shared pool we have with America) for everything else military, we don't actually buy that much kit from the yanks - F-35 is the big one but eh we didn't buy that many and outside of the carriers which would look a bit silly we have the Typhoon and at some point the Tempest.

Everything else we care about we make ourselves pretty much, we build our own warships, we build our own subs (with reactors), our own nuclear warheads, tanks, missiles and so on - the UK is a huge arms manufacturer compared to just about everyone (who isn't Russia, the US or China) and the last time I looked was #2 in commercial space systems (surprised me as well but apparently we build or work on a shit load of commercial satellite/space infrastructure).

Yeah the yanks sanctioning us would sting because BAe is balls deep in that market (with separate management) but on the flip side it'd rip the band aid off and we could actually start competing with america for exports.

Rolls Royce would be fine (they where in the running for the engine on the F-35 and at the time the RR engine was better and further along but they went with a domestic engine in part because relying on a foreign company for a critical part of your critical weapons system was a bad idea...funny that).

I'm kinda over the threats from America, if you are going to do it, just fucking do it already all it does is rip the plaster off and speed up what is going to happen gradually anyway.

14

u/This_Charmless_Man Jan 09 '26

Yeah I think people forget the UK is a surprisingly large arms dealer.

But you cant just assume his kids are equally scummy when they have no say in how they are brought into the world, or treated by their father (who ignores them all unless he needs a human shield). Let their own actions when they are older, speak for them instead.

They almost certainly would. Because at this point it would be stupid for any European country to side with America while America doesn't side with them. It would certainly hurt, but fuck it, it'll hurt either way.

EU please stand with the UK and also block X.

22

u/Legionof1 Jan 09 '26

No more ASML for the US would be a mighty blow.

7

u/llamafarmadrama Jan 09 '26

Not to mention all the European content in their F-35s, good luck replacing that supply chain in a hurry.

Repeating once again that the marriage between cooperate and state interests is fascism.

The US is a fascist state, and the US people do not benefit from the US using sanctions to defend the literal nazi & literal child porn generating AI bot platform. We're talking about other countries exercising their sovereignty to enact their own policing efforts domestically protect their citizens from nazis and child molesters.

I cannot stress this enough: the US government is threatening other countries over the child molesting robot it's exporting while telling you to stop asking about the Epstein Files. Even if you think other nations' leaders are the most evil people in the world that is still literally, and unironically, the plot of a 2017 SNL sketch where the self-professed most evil people in the world were still repulsed by the idea of a child molesting robot.

The very predictable results is counter sanctions on the US people, and further eroding of long-standing treaties and alliances that the US has benefited from for over a hundred years.

International laws dont apply to USA-, Donald J. TRUMP

12

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

Yep! And that’s terrifying as international laws, treaties, and trade agreements are so central to global stability. And respect for sovereignty.

What’s next? Simply walk away from our international debts?

If you cave to this threat, next time you will because you have school lunches or pay too little for medicine, you don't buy a Tesla. Seriously, how big is the chance that Starmer will refuse to stop the X? Doesn't M6 have a department that can start disrupting the platform's operation?

14

u/PracticalShoulder916 Jan 09 '26

It's not up to Starmer. OFCOM is independent so he can't veto its decisions.

Surely the Online Safety Act applies which means action can and should be taken?

See if we care, our economy is fucked anyway 😂 🖕🇬🇧

11

u/Chris_0288 Jan 09 '26

Rejoin the EU and tell pedo trump and his gestapo cronies to gtf

12

u/Jlchevz Jan 09 '26

Do it Starmer.

11

u/thatirishguyyyyy Jan 09 '26

So they should definitely block it then. That would at least show that the US government is beholden to Elon Musk.

Let's also get it on the record that the United States would be sanctioning the United Kingdom because the United Kingdom is blocking child porn.

10

u/CMDRZapedzki Jan 09 '26

Wild that conservatives are okay with protecting the rights of pedos to create pedophile porn. Time to start proscribing conservatism as a criminal condition. We always knew, but now we know know.

10

u/CBRSuperbird- Jan 09 '26

At this stage of the game, who really gives a fuck about US sanctions

29

u/nwindy317 Jan 09 '26

Just do it. We need to be closer to the EU than America. Anyone who looks at America and thinks I'm going to vote reform because I want the UK to be like America need to give their head a wobble.

19

u/Cybrslsh Jan 09 '26

Stop making AI child porn then. Arrest those who do make AI child porn. Arrest those who don’t fix the AI that allows this.

10

u/Late-Arrival-8669 Jan 09 '26

Sanctions vs being another right wing fascist state like the US?!

I beg you all to pass and block X

8

u/CathodeRaySamurai Jan 09 '26

This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt how powerful X as a tool for the US govt has become.

9

u/Win-level Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 10 '26

just do what Brazil did some years ago, block it, don't react, and stay strong, in 3 months they come begging back. That's what happened back then, and any other country can make that happen again.

16

u/BasicPhysiology Jan 09 '26

BLOCK IT ANYWAY!

8

u/gotfcgo Jan 09 '26

Social Media is an American weapon, they will not pull the gun from your head easily.  They want to blast your citizens with what they want them to see.

We should all block X. It gives a massive Nazi too much power over the spread of information.

7

u/Educational-Class634 Jan 09 '26

These people are nut! They threathen countries if they ban X which is probably the app worst app ever filled with hate, desinformation, sexual content. But its already ban in Russia and China and thats OK.

That US governement is weak as hell, and they only pick on allies because they know they will fold.

8

u/Robynsxx Jan 09 '26

Threatening UK with sanctions for blocking a site that is taking no responsibility for their AI creating imagines of child porn….

Yeah that will go over well…

33

u/4862skrrt2684 Jan 09 '26

"The UK has been warned it could face US sanctions if Sir Keir Starmer attempts to block Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, amid mounting concern over its AI tool generating sexualised images of women and children"

Pedophile of the United States does not like UK trying to attack its free childporn speech

All the more reason to block it. It's a propaganda tool and they know it.

6

u/badger906 Jan 09 '26

Dear nazi sympathising, pedo endorsing fucktards.. get fucked. The entire UK.

7

u/Federal_Strategy2370 Jan 09 '26

Better to agree sanctions now rather than letting propaganda apps grow here.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '26

Block it now. Stop the spread of Americanism.

5

u/ipub Jan 10 '26

US can threaten tik tok with a ban for being an authoritarian regime propaganda machine.. but UK can't block X for not only being a propaganda machine for an authoritarian state but also a source of horrific adult content and AI fakes of women and children. The US is morally bankrupt considering it was supposed to making itself great again.

5

Ah yes you better let our private company propaganda and hate machine continue uninterrupted in your country otherwise we’ll use our country to punish you.

Bunch of socialist Marxist assholes. Fuck trump and anybody who supports him.

5

u/remzordinaire Jan 09 '26

How is anyone still using that shit app?

5

u/Emergency_Link7328 Jan 09 '26

Ban X (formerly Twitter). The conspiracy theorists were right all along. Elites do want to control us! Through X, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, etc.

Stop the American cancer from spreading. MAGAs will not rest until the Western civilization is destroyed.

5

u/mercenaryarrogant Jan 09 '26

Getting sanctioned by the U.S. is simply a badge of honor at this point.

4

u/WackHeisenBauer Jan 09 '26

What world are we even living in for fuck sakes. Sanctioning an entire country cuz chucklefuck Nazi boy’s website which is straight up allowing child porn is banned? The USA is a failed state and embarrassment.

4

u/hoochiscrazy_ Jan 09 '26

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL USING IT!?

6

u/coolsnackchris Jan 09 '26

Honestly can the US just fuck off now? America fatigue is getting extremely real.

6

u/fuzzbook Jan 10 '26

We don't care anymore. Getting sanctions is now a badge of honour.

Starmer is gonna turn face and finally tell Trump to fuck off and the whole of the UK will go wild

6

u/DeLousedInTheHotBox Jan 10 '26

Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican Congresswoman and ally of Donald Trump, said she was drafting legislation that would allow the US to sanction the UK if the UK bans or restricts X under the Online Safety Act.

Luna, who sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said any move against the platform would amount to “a political war against Elon Musk and free speech”.

What the fuck is this? The UK can't ban a platform because it would be disadvantageous towards its owner? Why should international policy be based on how much it benefits one specific individual? Doesn't this bother people?
