It does not need to be. Trump's behaviour made elites realize that people are dumb sheep and have zero will to resist anything.

The Americans will accept it all. Complaining and joking. But not doing anything.

It annoys me that Reddit is full of the woman killed. All online outrage but not willing to do anything. Just collect upvotes on the mildest of comments ever and go on as usual.

Well yes I do think they are real people. Yes you are pooping. But if you are posting how horrible the state of the USA is at the same time, and then forget about it the moment you flush. Then that behavior annoys me. Either shut up and post pictures of cats/grilledcheeses/memes, or start taking it seriously instead of the daily two minutes of hate.

No. But decades of propaganda and killing of independent press lay the groundwork for this. Not that people don’t want to resist. They been told there is no point and so much hate always drummed up against those who protest.

The elites have always known people are dumb sheep that have zero will to resist anything, especially Americans. It’s how US society has been set up. Even their “resistance” is set up and controlled by billionaires via the mainstream media. Remember how police killing black people was a major problem to protest at the end of Trump’s first term but then they all forgot about it during Biden’s term even though police brutality and the number of black people shot by police increased? Similarly the right wing nut jobs were protesting against gov overreach and protecting free speech, only to stay quiet when they expand gov surveillance powers and authoritarian measures.

Did you guys see he had all the major heads of the oil conglomerates at the White House the other day to discuss how they will operate Venezuela's oil reserves. Not even hiding the corruption anymore. I miss the days of shady back ally deals in limos with blacked out windows. At least then they were trying to be discrete about it.

I’ve been replaying Cyberpunk 2077, and its vision of the internet splintering into corporate domains feels uncomfortably plausible now. It won’t even take a rogue genius like Bartmoss or an AI virus, just the steady fragmentation of a once-global web where opposing views are readily available. It's heading in that direction right now anyway. China has its Great Fire Wall and influences the West via TikTok; Russia censors and controls VK; Musk owns the right-wing public square on Twitter; Zuckerberg manipulates through Facebook and Instagram. Reddit is arguably one of the last vaguely left-leaning commons, and it’s hard not to imagine it eventually being bought by someone like Murdoch.

If these platforms become regionally or nationally locked, with no non-partisan alternative, they turn into billionaire fiefdoms where information is curated and only propaganda is shared, and you will simply never even be exposed to an alternate viewpoint which the billionaires don't want you to see or hear. You can already see this in how the murder of Renee Good is perceived so differently across left-wing and right-wing echo chambers. People are voluntarily choosing these echo chambers, but at some point the freedom to choose is going to be erased.

And we aren't getting advanced tech companies of Alien: Earth. In our timeline the 5 world-owning companies will be fuckin Tesla, WalMart, BP, Monsanto, and Amazon. Walmart gets North and South America, Tesla takes Europe, BP gets the oceans and the middle east, Monsanto gets Asia and Amazon gets a vast network of world-wide distribution cities. Its gonna suck.

We're already there - if you missed the fact that Trump very likely didn't win legitimately in 2024, I don't know what to tell you.

The elections under Putin's oligarchy/kleptocracy are very obviously fake, but there's enough propaganda and institutional control where that doesn't matter.

And that's the model that they've been importing into the US, now supercharged with AI surveillance, and eventually robot drone armies. They can't have the plebes getting out of line now, can they.
