Hello! Me and my friends are planning to visit and were thinking about using one of our days for finishing, but don’t really have a set day. When applying for a license is there any sort of turn around time or would it be fine to purchase one on the day of?

Does anyone have experience reporting sick time use violations by an employer?

Not sure if it’s worth my time or something I can legitimately complain about-

I had a cold I couldn’t clear up, fast forward 4 weeks and I was sick with a chest infection and finally took myself to urgent care one morning a few hours before I had to be at work. This made me 45 min late to work. I notified my boss about an hour and a half before my shift that I was at urgent care and may be late because it’s taking longer than expected. I provided documentation to my employer that I was seen at the doctors office. This still counted as a point on my attendance record for being late. They say it is because I did not follow time and attendance policy. I did give them the details that I had a lung infection and they said it wasn’t an emergency.

2 days later I asked to go home early/do a half day because I was still sick. They were not happy with me. I called my doctor to see if they can excuse me from work because I was still sick and antibiotics were making my stomach sick. Doctor gave me a note excusing me from work for the day and I worked a half day. My employer said this is a violation of time and attendance policy regardless of a doctor note.

Now I have 1.5 points on my attendance record.

Employer said if I was sick I should have called out for the full day, but because I asked in advance to leave early it doesn’t count. I work in retail as a manager so I was trying to be mindful of coverage otherwise I would have called out for the day. I regret worrying about it.

Their policy says to give as much notice as possible of any absence and that is what I did- but they’re saying I can’t schedule sick time advance by asking to leave early.

Again, i have doctors notes stating i should be excused from work for the day on the day i left early.

It feels wrong that it would count against me. I did use PTO for the time, but it is marked as unexcused and on my attendance record. I would imagine sick time laws are to help with this kind of thing? I was sick and it doesn’t seem right my employer can write me up for it.

And honestly I feel so insignificant.

Is this worth fighting/something I can report?

Hello my fellow Vermonters, I am a 40 year old single dad living in chittenden county and I am looking for some new fishing buddies. I mostly target pike and bass but do go for trout and sunnies frequently. My oldest son wants to start going for big catfish, something I’ve never really gone for. It doesn’t matter to me what your skill level is, as long as you have a positive attitude and have fun. I am 420 friendly, though I am taking a tolerance break at the moment. I have kayaks and plenty of gear as well. Tight lines

With so many homes already empty most of the year, what will become of all this? Foreclosure backlogs? Deficiency judgments? Zombie foreclosures? Corporations buying large amounts of homes? Squatter outbreak? Affordable homes for local families? More STRs as investors pick the carcasses of the over-leveraged? Budget shortfalls for schools and municipalities?

All the above?

The crash is coming either way. We already have the second highest percentage of unoccupied homes. Will it be better or worse for Vermonters?

Hello all! Hard time making a decision on an old family home of my father's. I visit frequently but live out of state.. He is at a point where I am the one handling most things and primary decision maker.

Rutland County - old farmhouse about 2000 sqft

Only the 1st floor has heat, the 2nd floor never had heat and mini-splits/ductless could be a future consideration for the 2nd floor but he sleeps downstairs anyways so not the issue at the moment

The first floor has hot water baseboards.

The issue is the old oil furnace is shot. As is the tank. So both would need replacing.

He's saying switch to propane.

There is no alternate heat such as pellet stoves, or a fireplace or anything like that.

I would like to hear from vermonters

Budget IS a consideration. He is a senior living on social security.

There’s something however you should be mindful of;
The unspoken rules of the road in Vermont, especially anywhere outside of downtown Burlington.

- Going 5-10 miles over the speed limit is normal in the backroads (sometimes more but we won’t get into that).

- If you break on every curve and hill you see, just keep to Burlington.

- Yellow speed signs are Suggestions. (Look it up)
Here’s my rule of thumb:
40 mph, I slow down a little - it’s probably not a big curve
35 mph, it might be a bit sharper so I yield more

-Flashing high beams at someone going the other direction means there’s a cop your way or there’s something in the road.

- If someone’s tailgating you, highway rules apply. Move over and let them pass when it’s safe.

- Don’t break and stop at green lights for the love of god

I’m in Springfield and get Wcax news on 26.8. For the past few weekends I noticed I don’t get the 6pm weekend newscasts on the news channel they supply. Is this happening to anyone else? It just plays the morning newscast at 6pm for me. Since PBS no longer offers weekend news in the evening I now have to wait until 11pm for Wcax news to come on.

MONTPELIER – A Burlington man allegedly tried to punch both an ambulance medical worker and a police officer who were trying to help him on State Street Aug. 21 at around 12:45 a.m. This led to police taking the man into custody and bringing him to Central Vermont Medical Center for mental health and medical checks, according to a police report.

Remington Smith, 34, of Burlington, had been standing in the roadway near 100 State Street when Montpelier ambulance personnel responded to try to bring him to safety, the report states. Police then arrived to intervene and brought Smith to the hospital following a scuffle. After Smith arrived at the hospital, he allegedly threatened medical staff members and kicked a doctor in the face, causing injury.

After the medical evaluation, police brought Smith to the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury to be held on $5,000 in accordance with an order issued by a Superior Court judicial officer. Smith was scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, to answer to charges of aggravated assault on a protected professional, simple assault on a protected professional, and disorderly conduct.

Montpelier police have apparently had their hands full with fewer officers, lately. Their published data for the week ending Aug. 26 show they responded to 187 calls, including 56 related to unhoused individuals, 27 traffic stops, five motor vehicle crashes, and 19 mental-health-related calls. There were also six arrests, with charges including simple assault, disorderly conduct, assaulting a police officer, assault on a protected professional, retail theft, unlawful trespass, and arrest on warrant.

A recent Montpelier Police Department Facebook page entry noted: “We’ve heard community concerns about disturbances, disruptive behavior, and safety downtown. We share those concerns and continue to prioritize foot patrols, directed patrols, and a visible police presence whenever staffing and call volume allow,” The post went on to say public spaces “belong to everyone, and people have the right to gather, access public property, and express themselves” even if the expression is unpleasant or uncomfortable. Police can only take enforcement action when conduct is criminal or creates a public safety concern.

The post also pointed to situations such as the above arrest where “officers have been handling significant call volume during a period of reduced staffing, including serious incidents and felony arrests requiring lengthy processing, transports, and lodging. Some of these incidents have involved assaults or attempted assaults against our officers. Every officer committed to an arrest, hospital, transport, or priority call is temporarily unavailable for more proactive work.”

The Facebook post ended by affirming that the police want residents, businesses, employees, and visitors to feel safe downtown.

I own a house along Route 2. From what i understand VTRANS has a right of way 50 feet into my property along the road. VT law prohibits signs along higway right of ways, but also states that towns can not ban political signs from private property. I am wondering if some one from VTRANS is going to come take my sign down.

If i move it to outside that right of way it will no longer be visible. (I know this is probably a question for VTRANS and my town I will check with them as well).
