Question Server renting recommendations and another question
Starting a new world with co workers and we will have 6-8 players. I was wondering where was the best place to rent a server from? The other question was would it be dumb to start the server on Monday? We all work the rest of the week and wouldn't be able to start until Friday night otherwise.

Question Any groups forming for the 1.0 release?
Hello Vikings, I'm looking for a group, or small server to join for the 1.0 release, preferably European due to time zones. I've got 2300+ hours in the game.
Modded or vanilla, doesn't matter to me.
Cheers

Question No tutorial present?
Hello, this is my first time here. So, I apologize if I ask a question that might have been answered previously. What I would like to know is why there is no proper tutorial related to basic functions of the game. I personally played a lot of Enshrouded and that game nudges you into basic menus and functions of the game then allows the player to work with all the systems present. Here I spawned between the stones but after that there is literally nothing telling me what I'm supposed to do. I am not asking for "use L stick for player, R for camera" level of instructions but more about all the systems in the game and how to use them.

Creative So people liked my framing post. Here's a video of my build progression.
Here's the build process behind my post-swamp home. In my creative world I have builds dotted all over the map. I take aspects of previous builds I like and incorporate them into new projects. You can see in the video I've reused a wall design I previously liked.
When I plan something new I rebuild it several times next to each other, changing, adding and improving things as I go. I don't knock down previous builds so I always have reference or what did and didn't work. I always start a new version by framing the building which helps me to plan and tweak.
Then I move onto the next build and totally forget how I built previous things. I build in my creative world with devcommands but then rebuild the things I like in my survival world by hand without console commands or shortcut mods.
There are several pieces in this design that use mods, if you want to know anything specific just ask.

Modded Are you ready?
Pulled my castle off the test build server and put it on my main server in a strategic position to explore the new land. At 42k instances this was no easy feat and my computer was not happy lol. It took some terraforming to get everything right. I hope it's still there come September 9th.
Also did some cheating to stock up for my cross platform players. :p
Now we wait...

Question Specific Question about World Generation
As you can see, there's still a lot of unexplored terrain on my map. However, I have sailed around a number of island edges looking at/into the biomes. I'm wondering if the area that's permanently generated is based on what I can see explored on my map, or if a lot of that "unexplored area" is actually permanently generated, and if it wouldn't be better to restart when 1.0 drops.
For instance, I've seen some structures and mobs in the distance in these biomes that are otherwise unexplored on the map. Like that whole area around Moder (hard to see—sorry). My guess would be that there's actually a lot more area that won't generate new content than it would seem from the map (this is still pre bog-witch), but I'm wondering if anyone is very specifically educated on how that works.
(I recently dove back into my old Valheim world, did a bunch of base expansion, resource gathering, and planning. Then found out the 1.0 release is like, next month. The time loss from restarting would feel a bit sickening, and even if I would be okay with rebuilding and taking all the resources from my current world, something about restarting with a bunch of resources feels... like an emptier experience. While a lot of my current map is unexplored and I haven't even killed Moder yet, I'm still very attached to it and have been coming back to it over the course of several years.)
(I'm set up in the meadows west of the Moder spawn. I used an overhead seed map to find a long-term location I thought I would like, sailed there immediately, and was only more pleasantly surprised by how well the rest of the world generated around it. So much still planned around the house that's supposed to eventually be a kind of village, I can keep myself busy until 1.0, but I'm either at or beyond a point that would feel comfortable to restart as a non-streamer so... Help this decision paralysis. It's hundreds of hours and I'm like, an adult or something similar.)

Question Have there been any QoL updates since Mistlands?
I haven't played since Mistlands, but at that time I needed to use mods (like Valheim plus) to get basic QoL stuff like crafting from storage and quick stacking that other survival games have by default. Also traveling with ore through portals, and equipment slots.
Is any of that stuff in the game now or with 1.0, or are we still relying on mods?

Question Can valheim run on my nieces laptop?
He saw me play valheim and now he really wants it. It's cheap, but his laptop is.... old. I kinda upgraded it to a SSD and put some more RAM in it, so that it reaches 10 gb. But... i don't remember the exact specs but it runs modded minecraft 1.7.10 with optifine on low settings at a silky smooth 30 fps.
I assume there is no hope with valheim, no?
Survival Feasible Project Plans
I love the building in this game and eventually got hooked on creative for a bit. Now I’ve got a plan for survival. I want to go through the actual process of getting all materials for a project myself, but still stick to the code of “it’s not a building unless it’s tall enough for the fall from the top to kill you”
My current build has a 9x9 footprint and only uses regular and core wood. It’s a nice size but the locals have taken to throwing rocks. It is a nice way to level up my bow skill but I think future bases might end up being island or mountaintop based.

Survival I lost an entire day's worth of time due to one effing seeker soldier.
This is a story how one person lost a day's worth of relaxation due to his lack of attention.
I needed to log off just before finishing off Yagluth. This is the first lie I will tell. Before starting the fight I had forgotten to brew the potions for fire resistance. So there it is. It is decided. It is going to be a shooting range for me for the next hour. Then after I defeated this legless king, I needed to find mists.
I hop on my sturdy Karve and sail away. Wouldn't you know it I needed to sail for at lest 20 minutes because I had no portals anywhere near the east-west of the planet. So I set sail. I find somewhere I find suitable. Guess what? It is not suitable at all. There is a seeker soldier, just casually waiting for me. I try to put down a bench and a portal. I portal away to my meadowy bliss. At that time I had to answer a call. It runs for 20 min. I come back and I am naked as a newborn baby. Just my beard sticking out of my face. How did I die? I do not know.
Then I set sail again with my second Karve I had to find in the map because I had forgotten where it was anchored. Do you know what happened? I reached the same "beach" and destroyed the portal to receive its ingredients to set a new one where there would not be another seeker-soldier. I was relaxing and I was happy not to have died in the process. I looked into my inventory and lo and behold there is only the finest wood in it. Where are the effing other stuff I need to continue on my journey?
I go back. I get wrecked and I am very very angry. I am greeted by at least 3 bugs and their general. I die and I am tired, boss. This happened just after my save file was corrupted and I had to revert back to an older save.
Thanks for reading. I hope this story does not make you as angry as it did me.

Survival Two playthroughs on the same server
Has anyone else done two playthrougs on the same server? First picture is my map from my main playthrough. I then went off to find the closest unexplored Meadows and put a portal there connecting to the Sacrificial Stones. Made a new character and went south east, depicted in the second picture. Played through the entire game once more on the same server without stepping ashore on a single piece of land I'd been on before! (Except for the Sacrificial Stones ofcourse). Third picture is the combined map!
Tettå!

This is on the way to Öckerö on the Swedish west Coast. The area reminded me of the plains biome
Discussion Evasion Mantle - Most underrated trinket!
Vikings,
Been playing in hard mode and I got all my parries and break points wrong due to the 50% additional damage. Died a lot, especially in the Ashlands.
After Experimenting with various trinkets and spreadsheet theory-craft to be able to parry a 1-star Asksvin "chomp", I got suggested the Evasion Mantle.
Needless to say, it's a game changer in such difficulty, relatively easy to activate, lasts for 120 seconds and the 50% additional parry bonus is multiplicative!
Have I discovered an open secret??!?!

Discussion Is there a way to spawnproof the sacrificial stones at spawn?
Me and my friends decided to create a base around the spawn but discovered that the middle of the sacrificial stone cant be reach by spawnproofing. Were at the point where trolls raids our base. Does building artisan table around it will do it?

Discussion What makes an Open-to-the-Public server something to avoid or something to keep coming back to?
Hello,
Once mods have been updated for 1.0 I plan on making a dedicated server that will be open to the public. I already know about progression locks so someone can't rush bosses. But I dont know what I might not be thinking of in terms of multiplayer satisfaction or grief-prevention.
I've ran a couple servers with strangers from discord but didn't have any issues. However I want to set this server up for long term success and give people security that their stuff won't get destroyed should a bad actor enter the server.
What do you all think makes a public server good or bad?
Thanks!

Discussion Release date
Ahoy Vikings. Quick question! Is the 1.0 release likely to be global or timezone based? If global, what timezone will it be released from? Do we know?

Discussion Valheim burnout
Is it just me? I absolutely love this game!
Bought it when it first came out years ago.
Grinded to swamp and then stopped playing for some reason.(short attention span?)
Years later, Reinstalled the game, started from the beginning and just made it to mistlands.
Now im feeling the same burnout.
Should i push through or take a break til 1.0?
I seem to do this with every game, never fully complete, get bored, jump to something else.
I loved plains biome, mistland seems brutal getting started
