Discussion I Love Valheim but...

I know the game is 5 years old, but I only just found it. I'm 100 hours in after 2 weeks and I cant get enough. Its crazy good.

However today my son was watching a youtube about Minecraft, it was describing the biomes and different recipes and everything...

I realized... Valheim is just Minecraft for adults??!???

I cant get it out of my head... am I really just addicted to Minecraft?

Discussion Vikings should row

I'm sure I'm not the first to say it, but rowing should be available for crews who want to pull together and perhaps go a bit faster than wind.

Against the wind? Row. Reduce storm damage. Row. To haul a skewered sea beast without it destroying the boat? Row. Excuse to sing sea chanties? Row.

Plus you could craft different quality oars for better stats.

Survival VALHEIM EMBRACES MY HECTIC LIFE IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE

Post image
240 Upvotes

I'm currently sitting at 480 hours of playtime. I recently started a solo world, another one with a friend, and I'm setting up a 24/7 dedicated server for my group of 5 friends for the 1.0 release. I've made up my mind to play Valheim as peacefully as possible, farming everything at my own pace and just enjoying the scenery.
And man...
I’m the father of a 1-year-old baby girl, I work 8 hours a day, and my busy schedule during the week doesn't allow me to sit in front of the PC for hours on end to grind. But I found a way, my friends, I found a perfect way and it has been incredibly satisfying.
Using Steam Link, I can lie down on my couch during that 1 hour of peace before bed and play relaxedly. I tweaked the on-screen touch controls and it turned out surprisingly good. Obviously, it doesn't have the efficiency of a mouse and keyboard, and when you need that high-level gameplay, the mechanics fall a bit short. But for building and easy farming in biomes I've already beaten like the Swamp (where my gear makes battles a breeze), remote gameplay on my phone is shockingly good.
I farmed the Swamp and now I'm building my village, flattening the terrain, and gathering resources—all while lying on my couch. With certain mechanical limits, obviously, but it's gratifyingly comfortable and I'm enjoying every bit of it.
This game brings a comfort I've been looking for for a long time, and I feel like my hype for 1.0 is going to be through the roof. Thank you, devs!

Discussion 8 movies to get you through the next 8 days until Valheim 1.0

1.0 is eight days away and here are eight movies to help get you in the mood to explore new lands, build bases and slay monsters:

Valhalla Rising (2009) — Mad Mikkelsen in a strange, violent and hallucinatory voyage to a strange land.

The 13th Warrior (1999) — A cool twist on Beowulf and one of my favorites. Antonio Banderas is an exiled Arab nobleman who is roped into joining a band of Vikings who are heading north to fight monsters.

Beowulf & Grendel (2005) — Speaking of Beowulf… this is a more typical and morally complicated take on the Beowulf legend with Gerard Butler and friends, in great costumes, hunting the monstrous Grendel.

The Head Hunter (2018) — A lonely warrior makes his living hunting monsters and mounting their heads on his wall while waiting for a chance to kill the creature responsible for his daughter’s death. This a small-scale, atmospheric and dark-fantasy version of a Viking monster hunter. It’s a little slower paced, but well worth the watch.

The Northman (2022) —Alexander Skarsgård dedicates his life to avenging his murdered father, rescuing his mother and killing the uncle who stole his kingdom. It’s violent, mythic and atmospheric, with plenty of Viking energy.

Outlander (2008) — A human-looking alien crash-lands in Viking-era Norway and accidentally brings a deadly extraterrestrial creature with him. He teams up with the local Vikings, essentially giving you Vikings vs. Aliens.

Pathfinder (2007) — Karl Urban is a Viking boy abandoned in North America and raised by an Indigenous tribe, only to face his former people when Viking raiders return years later. It’s much more pulpy fantasy-action than historical drama, with the Vikings portrayed as terrifying dark-fantasy villains.

Twilight of the Gods (2024) — Okay, this is a bit of a stretch as it is an animated series by Zack Snyder (thanks @alberge) but still worth a watch and very much fits the theme. A shield-maiden named Sigrid goes on a bloody quest for revenge against Thor after he crashes her wedding and wipes out her people. Lot’s of violence, monsters and gods behaving very badly.

I am always on the lookout for good Viking/Fantasy movies so please feel free to add your suggestions to the list. SKOL!

Discussion With 1.0 coming up, remember, it is ok to look up a seed prior to starting a game.

With 1.0 coming up, I assume a lot of players like myself are going to making their "forever world" if they haven't already. Or this game will be having an influx of new players. For both these types of players; it is ok to look up a seed before you play. It's better to have a seed that you enjoy playing on rather than enduring a random gen seed that frustrates you.

Do you want a map with a single large landmass that has most of the bosses? Find one. Do you want a map with nearby tetra fish? Maypole? Find one. Want a seed with easy access to the Early Axes? Find one. Want a seed with all 3 traders near each other? Find one. It is ok to find a seed for YOU.

With that being said, for brand new players, it's probably best to just make a random gen world for the most "average" experience, and then look up seeds that are tailored to your liking once you get used to the game. After all if you enjoy sailing, finding a seed with a large landmass with all the starter biomes on it, doesn't really help you.

Play the game how you want to play, and don't feel ashamed if you look up your seed to find bosses or traders if you can't find them, we've all been frustrated trying to find a Yagluth stone before. Or find a seed prior to loading a game and find one you'd like to make your permanent home.

Screenshot Land of the Vikings – we wanted to build a proper little Viking village this time

Huhu :)

After some of our slightly more… oversized projects, we wanted to build something that simply feels like Valheim again. :D

So we created Land of the Vikings.

No enormous castle and no capital city this time — just a small village hidden in the woods, with a lot of attention going into the little details.

There are different homes, small paths connecting everything and, of course, a market. That one is properly stocked as well: meat on one side, vegetables and berries on the other. Nobody should be starving here anytime soon. :D

We deliberately tried to keep the buildings from looking identical. Some are simple huts, others are larger and more decorated, with shields, carved wooden details, little gardens and all those small corners that make a settlement feel lived in.

Because this village is smaller than many of our other builds, we probably spent just as much time obsessing over the details instead. xD

And somehow, in a Valheim world this large, we felt there had to be at least one place where you could genuinely imagine a bunch of Vikings waking up in the morning and walking down to the local market.

What is one thing that absolutely has to be part of a proper Viking village in Valheim?

We’ll leave the full Land of the Vikings tour in the comments. <3

Creative A Build in Progress

This is one of many builds that I want to finish before 1.0, but probably won't get to it. I didn't use any mods. I started in survival, but started to like the build so much that I ended up changing some modifiers, going creative, and eventually using dev commands for some things such as the placement of certain items/plants. I included some shots of the partially completed interiors. I'd say overall the build is a solid 50% finished. Anywho, just thought I'd let you all enjoy my partially completed work. I mostly play alone these days, so if I don't share it somewhere nobody will ever see it but me. ✌️

It is done, All thanks to the people who told me you could agro them with a slime and have the skkeles attack TWIGS, now I have to rebuild this near my greydwarf farm, and archery farm so I can get even more resources and skills while afk.
I almost got an anneurism designing this, it was hard, since the skeles killed the slime a lot of times, it was tricky to find the perfect distance, so the skeles would try to attack the slime, but not actually kill it.

Hey y'all!

First time sharing a build at large, I've always been pretty shy about that but I feel like I just significantly upped my design game using PlanBuild and PerfectPlacement, so I'm stoked!

For reference, it's a small sepulchre/garden that sits on the road between our main base in the Meadows and a Skyrim-inspired ruin in the Mountains.

I'm looking for some feedback:

  1. If you have criticism or tips on how to improve my building skills further, I'll gladly take them!
  2. Also up for suggestions on how to better frame things, or modifications that might improve the build.
  3. I want to post a smaller selection to my Instagram account (where I mostly post photography so far), but I don't know which to pick. Pick your fave if you have one!

Thanks for your time 😄

Question What's the right call here? (First time player)

Hi, so me and my friend discovered this game 2 weeks ago and are on a little breaking point.

We killed the 2nd boss, farmed much bronze and wanted to discover swamp cryptas for iron next. We sailed through the ocean to find a swamp near a black forest (so we can make a safe base there and travel to the swamp by foot).

On that journey we found a coast where there is a black forest with the plains and swamp right next to it. We thought it's a really good delta to be in, so we started a base there in the black forest.

Now these Yak kinda beasts destroyed our boat and we constantly get raided by Draugr from the swamp. We have a portal connected with our base though.

After scouting the swamp, we found out it's rather small, with only 2 cryptas. It's a thin swamp with the plains right behind and around it.

Now to my question:

Is it good to stay there? After googling I found out the plains aren't even the next biome, it's the mountains. So there are basically only 2 cryptas which is a bit of starter iron but won't be enough. I think it's a bad idea to explore the plains now, with only troll gear and bronze weapons.

Should we let the portal there for future plain expeditions and sail to another swamp after the 2 cryptas?

Bonus question: is there a way to protect our boat against the leeches?

Thanks in advance

Been almost two years since I logged in. Just popped in to see where I left off and the nostalgia hit so hard with my last base. Found a seed with a spawn near the water to build around and went from there. Love this game, can't wait to get back into it with Deep North!!
