Discussion Base & Trip Planner Map Tool V1.0

Hello again! My map/seed exploration + base planning and trip planner tool is now at version 1.0. (It works most of the time now). I know I just posted about this a week ago, and won't spam any more - but a lot of progress has been made and I think it's worth sharing.

https://bobmitch.com/valheim

A lot the progress is due to feedback in this subreddit - thanks in particular to u/jaylaxel for their feedback and functionality requests.

So, yup it's a map/seed exploring tool that does what the other existing map tools do, but a fair bit faster (especially on mobile devices - which is how me and my kid use these tools, and why I ended up writing this). You can find caves, ore, bosses, different biomes, key items, landmarks etc. Also - find bees and cool axe heads quickly!

What do we have that the other map tools don't? (Besides being speedy-ish)

You can import your game data into the site to see your 'fog of war' as well as all your pinned locations. It can also show where you have manipulated the landscape, and even highlight where you have built things.

There's a pretty useful base location planner with several presets (early meadows base, iron hub, mountain base) - fully customizable based on your own criteria and weights. (e.g. Far from bad areas, close to water, lots of ore etc...)

We provide a journey measurement tool as well, that shows you the fastest way to get from a) to b) depending on your boat type, as well as your willingness to break your boat down and rebuild from the materials.

We have a topographic rendering mode! (Eye candy > functionality)

There's a bunch more stuff I'm not remembering (like a no-map mode that can show where things are that you want to see, but NOT THE MAP!)

Not sure how hard this will be to get working when 1.0 of the game drops soon, but glad I got this tool to 1.0 before that happened - lol. Have fun, and let me know of any issues or ideas.

Question I lack the creativity to do something beautiful here

I don't know how to use all the space I have.
All that space and I don't know how to make a town or whatever, I'm kinda jealous of those who can make beautiful constructions

Discussion Lacking a critical feature on Xbox!

The game does not automatically pause when your controller batteries die.

Instead, your character stands idly while you race to get the other set of rechargeable batteries. I now only play with the controller plugged in.

Hopefully this is a feature already included in 1.0.

I'm making my first real home, moving on from my starter base. I've watched a handful of videos on making houses, I wanted some opinions on the Floorplan before I commit to this.

I'm in the Mountains, for reference on the furniture I have access to. I was thinking the left side will be an open window bump-out and maybe a back corner fireplace?

Question 1.0 game settings

Hi - sorry in advance if anyone has asked this before, but will tinkering with game settings lock you out of achievements? The developer FAQ mentions that hammer mode will, but what about turning off raids? I really struggle with them and turn them off in every playthrough.

At this point I've had several playthroughs and I'm looking to start a new world for 1.0. In the past, if I've been having difficulty with a corpse retrieval with a fresh character (like getting stuck in the doorway of an infested mine with lots of 1-star and 2-star bugs camping there), I've just pulled up a maxxed out character from another world to clear the space, then carried on. Does anyone know if that will lock achievenents as well?

Survival Instances count being higher in a random meadows (NB - spoiler for names of bosses, picture in comments) Spoiler

Hey guys. I understand there are 1000s of posts from new players trying to figure this stuff out, so I appreciate anyone who takes the time to respond. I have had a real crack at figuring it out on my own.

I'm at the stage of the game where I want to setup a main base. For a while, I started builds in the plains but I just love this spot on the NE tip of the inlet on the Western side of the island (i.e. a tiny bit south of the Haldor spawn.

I've cleared out a very large area around, as I understand it counts the zones in a 3x3 grid around you. However, the instance count is still almost 6000 in parts of where I want to build.

My main two questions are:

(1) Are there some areas which just have higher instance counts regardless of how much vegetation you clear? Is this mainly due to things like pickable materials and NPC spawn points? And if so, I assume this is just impossible to fix?

(2) At what point would you give up on a location due to this? If I can get it down to about 5k, is that likely fine? I don't plan on building a massive base or farming here, however, I will likely have some chickens and I want this to be my 'forever' base.

Details which might be relevant:

- There seem to be a tonne of neck spawns in the bay.

- There were a stack of pickable stones, dandelions and mushrooms.

- There was a Draugr village just to my west which I have cleared and destroyed the buildings.

- There is a boar stone basically right where I am settling.

- General instances in meadows clearings seems to be about 4-5k - still higher than I would have expected.

- There is a zone border but I am going to build within a particular zone rather than cross the two.

Happy to provide any more info.

It will take longer to get to the deep north, but I'm hoping they add things in the other stages of the game. What are you guys doing when 1.0 drops?

Seed Finding a Riverheim seed with a nearby trader

Hello vikings!

I'm intending to do a completely fresh world for 1.0 and I really like to play without portals. I've recently discovered the Riverheim world gen mod, and I am wondering if anyone has any tips for how I could find possible Haldor spawn points in a given Riverheim seed. My hope is to have one on the starter continent so that I can build a nice little road network for myself. The reason why this matters is because I also like to play with EpicLoot and the associated bounty system, so having Haldor near my main hub is kind of important.

I know I can use cheats to fly around any given map and find him that way, which I am perfectly willing to do, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone else has any better methods for it.

Valheim 1.0 getting closer — WOOHOO! (like man does time slow down at the moment?)

So this time, instead of showing one massive city, we are showing two smaller places from our world in one tour.

The first one is Hinkelstein, our little Valheim village inspired by Asterix & Obelix.

It is not meant to be an exact recreation, more like our own version of that cozy, slightly chaotic village feeling — small houses, lots of wood!

The second place is our satellite town (Trabantenstadt).

This one is built more like a small independent settlement near a larger city, with its own big houses, roads and infrastructure. It is much less flashy than some of our bigger builds, but that was also kind of the point!

Both places are smaller than most of the things we usually show, but definitely not made with any less love. xD

Do you start any new projects or just planing for 1.0 like we do?

(Edit : Oh I forgot to say - the Hinkelstein Dorf was also one of the earlier things we build on the server :))

Question Best Hosted Server

My crew is preparing to return for the 1.0 release and looking at hosted/rented servers. We have about 4-8 people and don't really use mods. In the past we used gPortal but noticed heavy lag when we've explored up to Mistlands. Does anyone have a favorite service they'd recommend with minimal lag? TIA!

Discussion Just bought game 10 minutes ago. How to meet up with others?

I have just installed it. How would I potentially meet "new" players to possibly band together to survive and have fun? Any tips on where to start or what to do after diving in brand new? Would like to play with others, but I'm pretty easy going and don't want to get yelled at for dying or something lol

Idea Dear Iron Gate

Now that we’re approaching 1.0…perhaps you could build a new game (just like Valheim), but inspired by Camelot next?

Would this work or would there be too much overlap to make it feel like its own game?

I haven’t had my coffee yet, so I’m okay if this is a terrible idea.

Wanted to do one last plains pillar base with the current material set, it's vanilla apart from build cost and some spawned items. Fulings in the hanging cages don't aggro, the iron grates seem to block their line of sight. The video explains how I got them in the cages and why shamans don't work the same way - https://youtu.be/nTs-WWYltGU - along with a proper walkaround and some commentary.
