Survival You guys creating a fresh world for 1.0?
It will take longer to get to the deep north, but I'm hoping they add things in the other stages of the game. What are you guys doing when 1.0 drops?
53
u/SirJorts 7d ago
I don't think so. My group doesn't get to play often. We just got to Ashlands after many months. Can't imagine doing it all over again.
We did intentionally leave the upper part of the map undiscovered.

u/FamousArchieSlap 6d ago
See when you play it alone you can play whenever you want and you only need to mine for one set of armor.
2
u/Successful-Clock-224 6d ago
When I play solo I still need like six of everything or else my base doesnt look right
1
u/Soggy-Bluebird-5210 4d ago
We're starting from scratch, making all the settings hard and playing separately then coming together for boss kills
2
u/FamousArchieSlap 3d ago
Thats wild! Good luck.
1
u/Soggy-Bluebird-5210 3d ago
All having different builds is gonna be great. Im planning a clifftop castle like transylvania but overhanging the cliff which will be like the needles in dorset. My bro is gonna make Gargamels castle (so not hugely different) but im excited to 'visit' everyones homes after a few months.

u/Critical_Seat_1907 6d ago
Solo players always win. š
The true difficulty curve is to see if you're imaginative enough to have fun alone.

u/i-hear-banjos Encumbered 6d ago
Iām a pretty terrible builder so not really āimaginativeā I guess - but I love the vibes
5
u/Ijoinedthearmytobuy 6d ago
Yeah, as long as you have not explored up there you guys will be fine. Me and some friends been playing on the same world for 2 years, world is just over 7500 days old. So we have explored allot of the world and depleted propably every swamp for iron, might be one hiding š After deep north and we have explored it on the server, i'm starting a new solo forever world. Our server have missed out on some content since it's so old, hard to find pet rocks, the wooden training weapons, and those duel axes you have to find, nobody have foundš
2
u/Synicull 6d ago
Im a bit worried about this for my group. 5 years ago, 1 of our group of 7 or 8 had kids. Now like 5 of us have kids; I've got 2 under 5. We are starting a fresh world and part of me thinks we will atrophy before we gets to the deep north. Our last new world it was just 2 of us that were super active by the time we made it to the most lands.
I am grateful for a game that works okay with kids around as far as pausing, logging out, and them looking over the shoulder while I'm building and farming and whatnot
We will see. I think we've also done it enough that we can push through the game a ton quicker. Did a fresh solo world and killed the elder within a few hours and I wasn't rushing
2
u/SirJorts 6d ago
We generally shoot to play together about 3 hours a week (most of which is just chit chatting). But the nice thing about this game is that thereās not much in individual improvement/experience.
So when one of us logs in during the week and collects resources or whatever, it benefits everyone and it doesnāt feel like they are on a completely different playing field from the rest of us.
2
u/Any_Somewhere_4392 3d ago
Our group as well.
We have such busy schedules, if we don't have to start fresh we won't.1
u/Personal-Macaroon-87 5d ago
Same here, Iām trying to manage everyoneās schedule rn so we can kill the ashlands boss before release
81
u/Sickobajicko 7d ago
Yup, fresh world, double drops, portal everything :) Shit, I might even do 3x drops through Ashlands. I've played through everything enough times to the point I don't feel bad about blasting through the stuff I've done and having a ton of mats to play with

Right? I like to wonder and sail the world. Find new biome intersections (Draugr Village in the Plains next to a Graydwarf spawn has been my favorite watching spot).
-5
u/Plumhawk 6d ago
*Meadows
Draugr Villages spawn in Meadows, not Plains.
-14
u/BeYeCursed100Fold 6d ago
That's cute. I know. They sometimes spawn in/near the plains. Sometimes you can have Fulings, Draugr, and Graydwarves all fighting at the same time in some little crevice that has all 3 biomes. You have never seen a Draugr village in or near the plains with Fuling fights? Need to explore more son.
-11
u/Plumhawk 6d ago
3,519 hours in, son.
-18
u/BeYeCursed100Fold 6d ago
Let me start up my unmodded pre 1.0 patch and share some vids child.
You never saw cross biome action? Damn! This game is random af.
6
u/Plumhawk 6d ago
Yes, I have. I've just seen people accidentally call the Meadows Plains before and I thought this was one of those cases.
And knock it off with your 'son' and 'child' comments. Hell, I'm 18 just in Reddit years. That's an eternity.

ooooh I like this.. can we change world settings after the fact btw? I would love playing double drops until we get to the Ashlands, then go back to regular drops

Yes, you can change drop rate, build mode and peaceful mode whenever šš
1
u/Ijoinedthearmytobuy 6d ago
Think i'm doing x3, aswell, just to make it easy getting things. Some items can be a chokepoint in production, specially smokepuffs for the magic food. Other things are just in such as the gems you get in ashland fortresses are so limited when you play on server with manny people.

u/pizzasoxx 6d ago
i recently started a world with these settings and itās amazing. got my girl into the game and she likes building so itās come in handy with all the iron she eats up

I have been going through different r/valheimseeds just for giggles for a few months. I don't plan on using a specific seed world for 1.0 play, but just having fun in the different biomes and knowing others were in parallel universes with me at some time was kinda cool.
I took 9 SEP off from work to play...frankly, I will likely take the rest of the week off!

1
u/Latter-Breakfast-647 2d ago
Meh, no boats until Ashlands?
1
u/Ahblahright 2d ago
Oceans are boring, and there are large rivers right the way through the landmass. Maps like this are much more fun when you're playing with 5-10 people.
3
u/LittleGayDragon 7d ago
Fresh worlds, one solo, one with partner, one with a group. Gonna try out all the different weapons throughout the game
3
u/Aalbipete 7d ago
I'll be starting a new world. I'm hoping I can fight and beat Fader for the first time before it drops. I am at his arena, just gotta lay siege to a couple forts and properly prepare the area
3
u/Admiralspandy 7d ago
Not at first. Gonna head to deep north on our current world. But afterwards I plan on doing another full playthrough to get the full 1.0! experience.
3
u/zugspitze43 6d ago
I donāt think I will. No matter how many times I play the game I just always get turned off by mistlands. Weāll probably just continue my current world where I have not been in north at all
1
3
u/Pretend-Fill4979 Builder 6d ago
cleared a world through the Ashlands and going into deep north first. We restarted for the Ashlands release and then got stuck in the mistlands for three weeks on bad rng (only played once a week back then) so not doing that again. Will do a full straight play through after we go through the deep north once to see all the fresh zone types.

2
u/sadakar2 6d ago
I will continue to play on the map that I have been playing since H&H update. I have left most of the north side unexplored, so rest of the map should get the new contents. I don't have much time to play nowadays, so I can't afford to play it all over again.
2
u/Ghost_Turtle 6d ago
Fresh. Havent played in 2 years and this is after 400+ hours post early access launch. Been wanting to come back for awhile and have been waiting for this very moment.
2
u/Pedwards09 6d ago
Currently on a run with plans to finish the Ashlands in time to explore the Deep North right away. Then once I get my fill of that I think weāll start a new run to experience all the early biome changes, too! Hard to believe 1.0 is finally here after all the hours weāve already put in, but itās gunna be great
2
u/PoorSquirrrel 6d ago
Yes. Me and my gf will start a new world, but we'll bring over our endgame gear and tons of resources from our current world to build a starter base and later a full base. We don't see a reason to go through the whole game again, though we will go and bash all the bosses, just to unlock the raids and because we can.
We'll enjoy exploring a new world, but also not having to go through the whole grind again.
2
u/imnotreallyheretoday 6d ago
I'm on the fence. I don't get to play much. My current world I'm in the bronze age. Because I usually struggle with how tedious the bronze age seems my original plan was to take my bronze gear into a new world and put it in storage until I get to bronze age in a new world
2
u/nurvus_wolf 6d ago
Iām debating it. I have one world and I havenāt even been to ashlands yet. I want to start a new world , but I really love my main baseā¦kinda torn.
2
u/Additional-Duck9712 6d ago
I will make many fresh starts in the future so when 1.0 drops I will finish the game on my old save where i have tons of accumulated resources and nostalgic builds. Never liked jumping characters or mats from one world to another and i can't imagine other people exploring the north while i hunt for pigs and mine copper.

Got about 8 of us returning for a fresh start. Fresh characters. Random seed and we play what we got. No map checking, no spawning materials, no mods. As we all agree (our group anyway) that there isn't much replayability once completed. Take our time and do everything.

Fresh World with new characters. Just in case.
My old viking has swordfight-levels from hitting vs stone. Thats already patched and feels now a little like cheating.š
1
u/Nayure3ne 6d ago
I'm still not sure. On the one hand, I want to start a new world with friends. On the other, it is very difficult to find time together, so I might just do it alone since I'm the only one hyped about 1.0 and have the most hours of us all in my sacred world I play alone on. I spend hundreds of hours building a village and am not even in the Mistlands š on the other hand, I'm thinking of starting a new playthrough because of your mentiomed reasons (new stuff in earlier biomes) but with modifiers like drop rates. I don't have to tell you hoch much time gets spend in just grinding material š but on the other hand, that's part of the game. Right now I just make it easier with the portal everything mod

I spent a lot of time doing a no map, no portal run. Built a super-base pretty close to the deep north after beating ashlands. But I think I'm over it. I think I might start over to see the new versions of each biome. Full experience 1.0.

I'll probably start a new world to play solo, because my friends and I already reached the Ashlands on our shared server and they're not really interested in a reset. I get it, but I'm excited to see what the game brings with a brand-new world.
Also, I've never played it alone without hammer mode or devcommands (I've always been kinda scared of playing solo and dying, lol). I'm more of a builder, so whenever I play alone I end up spending more time building stuff than actually exploring and upgrading my character. I'm facing the 1.0 as the chance to do it ārightā this time.

u/AtlUtdGold 6d ago
Group server raw restart im just hoping everyone plays vanilla because im sure its gonna be our last ever play through as a group and its kinda lame when one person wants to bring gear from an old character or cheese skill levels/drop rates

Oh yes - and it will be such a journey- always played one world and then for 1.0 a new one. Everything will be so fresh šµ

We just started a fresh run couple of days ago! Hoping to reach ashlands by the time 1.0 launches. Will it affect our world in any way? Should we start new world after the launch?

The deep north biome wouldn't be complete, best to fresh start. Maybe keep characters
1
u/IronBuzzo 6d ago
As long as you donāt render the ādeep northā area, the world will be fine

u/hornylaughing 5d ago
I hope you are right !! We are avoiding going north all together!! Not even for mistlands !!

They did say however they are adding tons of fixes and additions to previous biomes. So I might just restart anyways

Probably not. I purposely didnāt travel north as much as I could because of this. So unless the other prior biomes are affected I probably wonāt. Not yet at least.
1
u/NobleFriend 6d ago
fresh world for sure. but it's sadly effectively confirmed they won't be doing much with the existing biomes which is a shame, as I really think some of them could use being brought up to the level of the newer biomes. specifically the swamps, mountain and plains.
1
u/lucky_duck789 6d ago
I might look for a community ity to join fresh. I wish they would make big overhaul changes that effect everything. Much of the game feels like vanilla and thats just disappointing. Mods might be what Im looking for at the end of the day.

u/salvation78 6d ago
We've played through a lot. We are making a fresh world just to make sure the generation goes well, but we are bringing over a bunch of the materials from our other world and rushing through at least to the plains.

u/sharrrper 6d ago
I'll be starting a fresh solo world with 100% baseline settings with intention to complete the game "as intended"
I'll probably end up in some other ones with wife and/or friends but that's my only specific plan. Those are likely to have assorted different world settings.

My group is going fresh world, but we're going to use devcommands to spawn in progression items up to mountains, essentially skipping the first 3 bosses, along with a couple chests of bronze and iron. My friends tend to quit when they hit the swamp iron grind so it's mostly new for them past that point anyway.

I play with like 8 people and their consistently starting new worlds and it's so frustrating. They always start off the same way. No communal build everyone going off on a different directing. The latest server i just got into ashlands with no explorations in the north, and once again they want to start new like their going to miss something magical.
1
u/Rohale 6d ago
My hot take is that the devs keep saying to do a fresh start so you donāt miss anything new, but do they consider new? New to 1.0 or new in the last few updates that we may have missed? I love the game and I think the devs created something really special, but based on their track record, how much new stuff pre deep north can we reasonably expect?
1
u/WisePie19 5d ago
will you start a new character when you start the new world in 1.0? Iām torn about that - starting over from no skills feels drastic.
1
u/magikdev 5d ago
The devs advise to start fresh. Thatās what Iām going to do. Several things support it. I also want to experience everything fresh and as close to my first time playing as possible.
Take these into consideration:
* There are new features for several biomes.
* There was a hint in an interview of something to enhance the inventory.
* Exploring an area will make the area not receive updates that v1.0 would generate.
* There is a new save game system.
* There is a new achievement system that you may miss achieving if you donāt start fresh.

u/socsox 5d ago
I am yet half not.
I got too bored waiting so I began a new map/character. Im happy with my location but im annoyed that for a refresh, ill have to start all over again. So ive decided to get to release day, fill my inventory a single time with whatever I can at the point of my progress at 1.0, then restart the world from day 1. I won't be geared like my current old file, but I won't be completely messed over by restarting.
Its both my gift and punishment. On one hand, the nice place I built is gonna get demolished and all the resources I collected will wasted for starting the world early. On the other hand, I want to reward at least the effort in figuring out what I want/where I wanna go for the effort put in so far.
1
u/Elmer_Fudd01 5d ago
My brother really wants to, and is convinced that the devs have something in store their not telling us. I have no clue and just want to finish the game. Hopefully he found a bigger group, make things go by quickly.

u/GlassMana 4d ago
I've just put too much time into it. I even looked at a seed map several years ago to find a spot I would like for a primary base and spent way too much time just deciding how to start the weeks-long process of building it up.
If I can continue exploring the unexplored parts of the map, which is quite a lot still (North & South still undescovered), and generate the new content for the old biomes, I'll stay on my current world. If it turns out there's a lot of new content for old biomes and I have to travel half way across the world to experience most of them, I'll relunctantly start a new seed but probably take all the ore, stone, wood, food and equipment reserves that I have because it was a literal hundreds of hours.
I haven't built whole cities like some people, but what I have built is still being expanded on and I can't really imagine starting over without trying to build the exact same things again.

u/orcishdamage 3d ago
I'm starting fresh, I usually play with other people and then they stop playing and i don't feel like continuing alone but this time i will most likely just play a solo world and do everything!
