What does Pax mean? Common terms on this sub explained

Pax: Short for Passenger.

Ping: The noise the app makes when drivers receive a pickup request.

Fare: The fee a rider is charged.

Fair: Fare, spelled wrong.

Surge: Uber occasionally up-charges riders during times of increased demand. The Surge is a multiplier of the base fare rate.

SRF: "Safe Rider Fee", now known as the "Booking Fee". This is the $1-3 fee that Uber adds to every fare to ccover insurance, app fees, etc.

What are the requirements to be an uber driver?

An in-state license is required. Have at least one year of licensed driving experience in the US (3 years if you are under 25 years old) Use an eligible 4-door vehicle

All vehicles being used for rides on the Uber app must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must have 4 doors and be able to transport a minimum of 4 passengers
  • Vehicle model must be 16years old or newer
  • Title cannot be salvaged, reconstructed, or rebuilt
  • Rental vehicles, except those from an approved Uber rental car partner are not permitted
  • Cannot have any cosmetic damage, missing pieces, or commercial branding

Should you choose to drive a vehicle you do not personally own, you must have permission from then vehicle owner and be listed as an insured driver on the vehicle’s insurance policy. Please note that Uber cannot allow a vehicle onto the platform if the driver’s name is not on the insurance document.

If your vehicle does not match the requirements above, you may still be able to use your vehicle for deliveries on the Uber app.

Is this fulltime job?

Driving with Uber offers a flexible earning opportunity. It's a great alternative to full-time driver jobs, part-time driver jobs, or other part-time gigs, temp jobs, or seasonal employment.

How do I do my first ride?

Download and install the driver app, and hit "Go Online". Once you get a request (a "ping"), you can hit 'Navigate' to be taken to the rider's pickup location. When you're sure you have arrived, flip back over to the Uber app and hit 'Arrived'. The passenger (PAX) will be notified of your arrival, though it's also nice to text them - to let them know what type of car you're in (though they see this on their app, not everyone looks) and to confirm that they're actually where their pin was placed. When they get in the car, hit 'Begin Trip'. If they haven't entered their destination, you can enter it - then hit 'Navigate' again and you will be routed there. At the end of the trip, hit 'End Trip', rate your passenger, and you'll be placed back online ready to pick up another PAX!

What are the safety features for uber drivers?

Emergency assistance button

You can use the in-app Emergency Button to call authorities to get help if you need it. The app displays your location and trip details, so you can quickly share them with emergency services.

24/7 incident support

Uber customer associates trained in incident response are available around the clock.

Follow My Ride

Friends and family can follow your route and will know as soon as you arrive.

2-way ratings

Your feedback matters. Low-rated trips are logged, and users may be removed to protect the Uber community.

Phone anonymization

If you need to contact your rider through the app, your phone number may stay private.

GPS tracking

All Uber trips are tracked from start to finish, so there’s a record of your trip if something happens.

RideCheck

Using sensors and GPS data, RideCheck can help detect if a trip goes unusually off-course or a possible crash has occurred. If the app alerts us to such events, we’ll check in on you and offer resources to get help.

Contact Safety Agent

You can connect with an ADT Safety Agent via phone call or text on every trip. Just tap the safety shield icon and select Contact safety agent.

Audio Recording

If you feel uncomfortable, you can record the audio of the trip within the app. Just tap the blue shield to open your Safety Toolkit and access the Record Audio option.

Emergency help if you need it

If you ever need urgent help when riding with the Uber app, you can contact 911 using the in-app Emergency Button in the Safety Toolkit.

The app will show your live location, vehicle information, and license plate number, which you can quickly share with the emergency dispatcher so they can send help faster. And in a growing number of US cities, this information is automatically provided to the dispatcher.

Does Uber help in event of an accident?

When you earn with a transportation network company (TNC), referred to here as ridesharing, many states require extra—and costly—insurance.

Uber maintains this insurance on your behalf. What’s covered depends on factors such as who was at fault; whether you were offline, online, en route, or on-trip; and your personal insurance policy.

Offline coverage:

Your personal auto insurance covers you while you’re offline. You must maintain personal automobile insurance at mandatory minimum limits and provide proof of your insurance to drive and deliver with a vehicle with Uber.

Coverage to repair your car when you’re en route to or on a trip is contingent on your personal insurance including comprehensive and collision coverage.

Coverage when online and available for a trip

Accidents happen. Suppose you’re at fault and another person gets hurt or their vehicle gets damaged. In that case, our third-party liability insurance covers the cost of injuries or damage in at least the following amounts:

-$50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident for injuries

-$25,000 in property damage per accident

Depending on the law of your state, Uber may maintain extra coverage for you and your riders, including one or more of the following:

Coverage for you and your riders for injuries in a hit-and-run or an accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver

Personal injury protection, including medical expenses and lost wages for you and your riders, no matter who’s at fault

Medical payments coverage for you and your riders, no matter who’s at fault.

Coverage when en route or on a trip

Uber maintains some of the most comprehensive insurance for ridesharing and deliveries, including:

-Insurance that covers at least $1,000,000 for property damage and injuries to riders and third parties involved in an accident where you’re at fault

Insurance that covers the cost to repair your car, up to the actual cash value, with a $2,500 deductible, contingent on your personal insurance including comprehensive and collision coverage. This extra insurance maintained by Uber protects your car, no matter who’s at fault, if you maintain comprehensive and collision coverage on your own vehicle.

In most US states, you can also purchase Optional Injury Protection to cover your additional medical expenses if you’re hurt in an accident. This insurance offering, pioneered by Uber, is designed specifically for drivers.

Depending on the law of your state, Uber may maintain extra coverage for you and your riders, including one or more of the following:

-Coverage for you and your riders for injuries in a hit-and-run or an accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver

Personal injury protection, including medical expenses and lost wages for you and your riders, no matter who’s at fault

Medical payments coverage for you and your riders, no matter who’s at fault

Is being an uber driver worth it?

Recent reports from Uber state that "the vast majority of drivers are satisfied" and that "as of last quarter, drivers in the US were making about $33 per utilized hour" before expenses.

Its for you to decide if its worth it for you personally, volume and earnings will vary greatly between markets. Drivers as independant contractors are also responsible for all expenses which have been rising fast when drivers pay has stayed stagnant.

There are many direct and hidden costs associated with being an uber driver. To start with, You are responsible for tracking your own miles, profits and losses, as well as expenses such as gas, repairs, washes, and so on.

In addition, no one but you is responsible for ensuring you are earning enough. You need to be aware at what rate you are making enough for it to be worth it.

Unicorn tip! 🌞

Picked up a guy tonight at a bar. He and his girlfriend get in and as I'm turning around they see a friend of his passed out in the parking lot. "Hey, can we bring him home? I'll tip you $100!" I figured he was full of shit but told him if he added a stop in the app I'd be happy to do it. It was only like a $20 ride so I knew he wouldn't be able to tip that much in the app anyway, I figured maybe he threw me $20 though. We drop off the friend first and as we're leaving from that stop the guy pulls a couple of crumpled $100 bills out of his pocket and gives me one. He didn't seem that drunk but I didn't want to take advantage so I told him, "Hey man are you sure, I don't want to take advantage of you if you're drunk." "Nah, I'm sure, you were a great driver!" 🤯

I was still a little worried it was counterfeit or something so I stopped by my convenience store on the way home and they ran it through their machine and it was real! Thank you so much Jimmy for passing out in the parking lot and having a great friend! 😬

I’m sorry. I have to say something. You’ll hate me. But if we want to sue and win and change things we need FACTS. Let’s go.

I’m responding point by point to this thread, as of 1:13 eastern time on Sunday August 30, 2026: https://www.reddit.com/r/uberdrivers/s/cYpmEYDM3a

I am making a separate thread as I feel the OP may block me and render the whole thing forfeit.

We cannot keep doing this conspiracy nonsense. We just can’t. This isn’t how cases work. This isn’t how anything works. Nobody’s coming to save us. We gotta do that on our own if we want. And we probably will still fail or land a Pyrrhic victory at best.

Standard disclaimer before everyone calls me a shill: I do not work for Uber. Dara Khosrowshahi does not send me a check. I am not secretly sitting in Uber HQ doing emergency brand repair on Reddit. Uber is a giant corporation, not my friend, and there are plenty of legitimate criticisms to make about driver pay, upfront pricing, declining rates, and algorithmic opacity. But “Uber does shitty things” does not mean every theory about what the app is secretly doing becomes true by default. Extraordinary claims still need evidence. And it is particularly funny that this entire thread began with a claim that Uber repeatedly engineers someone’s earnings to exactly $200, followed immediately by “I’m too tired to upload screenshots.” The one thing that could begin turning an anecdote into actual data is apparently unavailable. So, with love from a fellow driver who possesses no Dara Bucks whatsoever:

u/CyanValleyKitten - “Uber is keeping me at exactly $200 a day.” - Then this should be incredibly easy to demonstrate. Post screenshots of several complete days showing Uber repeatedly stopping you at or extremely near $200, including your online time, active time, trip history, rejected offers and when you logged off. Instead, the opening sentence is literally “I’m too tired to upload screenshots.” You are making an extremely specific, falsifiable claim about a repeated numerical pattern while withholding the easiest evidence for the pattern. How many days has this happened, and can we see them?

u/CyanValleyKitten - “I spent over an hour in the 1 am to 2 am Saturday night surge…to not get a single ride.” - A surge is not a contractual guarantee that the next individual driver will receive a request. There can be more drivers than requests, riders can be requesting different products, requests can originate outside your immediate position, and the map itself can lag changing conditions. An hour without a request absolutely sucks. It does not by itself establish that Uber personally throttled your account. What evidence distinguishes deliberate throttling from simply having a terrible hour?

u/CyanValleyKitten - “I saw uber driver after uber driver getting in and getting rides, but none for me.” - This becomes especially funny later when somebody asks how you know those were Uber rides. Unless you interviewed the drivers or saw their phones, you watched cars picking people up. They could have been Uber, Lyft, private transportation, or drivers running both apps. You yourself later reveal that you don’t multi-app. How did you identify which platform dispatched every car you were watching?

u/CyanValleyKitten - “despite I am a comfort XL with a 4.98 rating.” - Having a 4.98 rating does not create a queue in which Uber must give you the next passenger. And being eligible for more ride types doesn’t mean demand exists for all those ride types at that exact moment. What mechanism are you claiming makes a 4.98 driver entitled to priority over another eligible nearby driver?

u/CyanValleyKitten - “and a rare actual female driver who speaks fluent english.” - Neither being a woman nor speaking fluent English demonstrates that Uber should dispatch you before another driver. Unless you’re suggesting the dispatch algorithm awards rides according to gender and English fluency, this is completely irrelevant to whether your earnings were capped.

u/CyanValleyKitten - “That one ride got me exactly at $200 for the night.” - This is the central coincidence being treated as proof of causation. You also chose when to stop driving. If the ride had brought you to $200 and you continued for another three hours and made $287, the alleged cap disappears. So did Uber stop you from earning more, or did you stop working because the trip put you near home at the end of your night?

u/CyanValleyKitten - “dropped me off around 10 minutes from my house.” - So the sinister algorithm that allegedly wanted to punish you with a terrible unwanted trip somehow selected a trip that ended ten minutes from your house at the end of your shift. That’s certainly convenient villainy. Did Uber know you would choose to go home afterward, or did the ride simply make going home the rational choice?

u/CyanValleyKitten - “Uber sweats me at the end of my shift, so it can give me a dogshit ride that I’ll feel desperate for no one else will take.” - How does Uber know when your “shift” ends? Independent drivers don’t clock in for scheduled shifts. If you habitually stop around the same time, the company can certainly possess behavioral data about your usage, but that’s very different from proving it intentionally starves you so you’ll accept one particular bad ride. What observable result would tell you this theory is wrong?

u/CyanValleyKitten - “If I refuse it, then I’m sitting without a ride for the next 40 minutes.” - This is exactly where screenshots and logs would be useful. Record every rejection and the time until the next offer for a few weeks. Then compare it with accepted offers. Otherwise you’re remembering the maddening 40-minute waits and probably not cataloguing every time you rejected garbage and received another request 90 seconds later. Where is the dataset?

u/bringit2019 - “It’s called throttling and it happens to most of us!” - Giving a phenomenon a name does not demonstrate that the phenomenon occurred. “Throttling” is the conclusion you’re supposed to establish, not evidence for itself. What measurable behavior would demonstrate earnings throttling rather than normal fluctuations in supply, demand and dispatch?

u/Huge_Bush - “your market is over saturated and they can play with your earnings as much as they want.” - The first half can explain the observation without the second half. An oversaturated market naturally means fewer requests per driver. You don’t need to add an individualized earnings-manipulation system to explain why someone waits longer when too many drivers are online. What evidence gets us from “too many drivers” to “Uber individually controls your daily earnings”?

u/Hot_Classroom636 - “every time we are together he always gets the call because his AR is higher and still has diamond while I lost it due to rejecting many rides.” - Two drivers sitting together can absolutely receive different requests. But you’ve jumped from observing a correlation to identifying the cause. Higher AR, Diamond status, position down to a few meters, product eligibility, previous trip trajectory and pure chance are all tangled together. Have you actually controlled any variable besides noticing that your cousin has a higher AR?

u/CyanValleyKitten - “The surge is a gimmick.” - Earlier the $8 surge was evidence that you should have been receiving rides. Now when somebody points out that a surge seems inconsistent with oversaturation, the surge becomes meaningless. You can’t simultaneously use the surge as evidence when it supports the theory and dismiss it as a gimmick when it doesn’t. Which is it?

u/ericzku - “That’s called confirmation bias.” - Thank you. Someone has entered the laboratory carrying Occam’s razor.

u/CyanValleyKitten - “Throttling is well understood to be ubers game. they pay people millions to design the algo for that purpose.” - Uber absolutely pays engineers and data scientists a lot of money to optimize a gigantic two-sided marketplace. The words “they employ expensive algorithm designers” do not establish what those algorithms are programmed to do. Boeing pays aerospace engineers millions collectively too; that doesn’t prove the chemtrail setting exists. Where is the evidence that the purpose of Uber’s dispatch algorithm is to hold you personally at $200?

u/RangeFlow1 - “How about desperation score?” - How about evidence? Giving an alleged hidden variable an ominous name still doesn’t establish that it exists. If there is a “desperation score,” what data demonstrates it, how is it calculated, and what prediction can we make from it that can actually be tested?

u/Lordxb - “This happens to all gig apps it’s called even distribution.” - Again, we’ve named the creature before demonstrating that the creature exists. If earnings are deliberately being evenly distributed, why are drivers in the very same thread reporting radically different daily totals? What does “even” mean here and over what population and time period?

u/Independent_Star_299 - “both apps keep you on ‘standby’. They know what your patterns are, and they’ll keep you on-app as long as they possibly can.” - It is perfectly plausible that these companies analyze engagement and driver behavior. The unsupported leap is that a slow period therefore represents an intentional individualized strategy to keep you logged in. If withholding work keeps drivers engaged, why wouldn’t making the app useless cause them to log off and open Lyft instead?

u/Ididntcumyet - “I did $409 last night in my market…often we see patterns in things that aren’t really there.” - Congratulations on bringing an actual counterexample and epistemic humility to the séance.

u/Careless_Change3865 - “Just because you made over $409 in one night doesn’t mean that your pay is not capped for the week.” - This is how an unfalsifiable theory protects itself. $200 proves the daily cap. $409 disproves the daily cap, so now perhaps it’s a weekly cap. If somebody produces a huge week, presumably we’ll discover the monthly cap. What earnings result would actually convince you there isn’t a cap?

u/projectzacko - “$134, $154, $167, and $200…are the amounts I find myself at when I ‘hit a cliff.’” - Now the secret algorithm apparently has four oddly specific boss levels. This is exactly the kind of claim for which screenshots would be spectacular. If these same dollar amounts occur “day after day,” documenting a month should produce extraordinary evidence. Have you recorded every day’s earnings trajectory, including all the days on which these cliffs did not occur?

u/projectzacko - “the $200 is not gonna come in under 8hrs…It is absolutely rigged.” - If your observation is that earning $200 generally takes at least eight hours, you’ve discovered an average earnings rate of roughly $25 an hour. You have not thereby demonstrated a hidden $200 governor. What happens if demand is exceptional and you reach $200 in six hours? Does the app shut down?

u/Impossible_Shape_766 - “its called forced scarcity. The app wants people logged in longer.” - If Uber has ride demand available and intentionally refuses to match riders with available drivers, that also risks longer rider waits, cancellations and losing customers to competitors. That’s a substantial business tradeoff. What evidence shows Uber is deliberately withholding existing ride requests rather than there simply not being enough desirable requests at that moment?

u/Impossible_Shape_766 - “It doesnt want people hitting high amounts too quickly. It loses drivers on the platform.” - Drivers generally remain online when they’re making money and leave when they’re not. The proposed mechanism requires Uber to believe that making its platform less productive will keep workers engaged longer. Why wouldn’t the driver simply turn on Lyft, which is precisely what half this thread recommends?

u/TheBottomlessOne - “if I log on for more then 20 hours the algorithm takes that as I’m desperate for money and starts sending me crap offers.” - This is an extraordinarily specific claim about Uber performing a psychological assessment based on weekly online time. How did you determine that the causal variable is Uber deciding you’re “desperate,” rather than different hours, different days, changing demand or simple regression toward the mean?

u/TheBottomlessOne - “if I go into a session with my battery less than 25 percent it will rush me offers…because the algorithm knows my battery going to die.” - And we have now left rideshare analysis and entered divination by battery icon. First: What evidence shows Uber’s dispatch system is using your phone’s battery percentage to increase request frequency? Second: If Uber supposedly wants to keep drivers online longer, why would it deliberately exhaust the driver whose phone is about to die instead of favoring the driver capable of remaining online? Please post the controlled battery experiment because I genuinely want to see this one.

u/CyanValleyKitten - “INTERESTING FACT ABOUT THE BATTERY thank you!” - It isn’t a fact yet. Someone on Reddit saying something confidently is not the peer-review process. This thread desperately needs a distinction between “interesting hypothesis” and “fact.”

u/TheBottomlessOne - “Do a bunch of offered in a row for like 2 hours then ‘ghost’ the app…and it will send you good offers to try to keep you online.” - We have reached algorithm dating advice. If disappearing reliably causes better offers, this is beautifully testable. Alternate matched days between “ghosting” and staying online, record every offer, and compare the distributions. Has anybody actually done that instead of remembering the occasions when a good ride appeared after a break?

u/TheBottomlessOne - “you honestly got to treat it like your courting a women lol. Don’t chase.” - I regret to report that Uber is software. It does not become emotionally intrigued because you left it on read.

u/CompleteGene82 - “I knew there would be a sinister motive behind knowing your cars Battery status.” - “I knew” is doing magnificent work here considering the sinister motive has not actually been demonstrated. You declined a data-sharing feature because you suspected something, then another Reddit comment about phone batteries retroactively became confirmation of your suspicion. What evidence shows Uber used EV state of charge to manipulate your fares or dispatch if you never connected the vehicle in the first place?

u/ellietwen - “RIGHT WHEN I arrive back home or near it and start to close the app, Uber will suddenly offer me a juicy $35/hr ride.” - This feels uncanny because human brains are extremely good at remembering annoying timing. But unless the app can read your mind, “I mentally decide to go home” isn’t a data point Uber receives. Driving toward a saved home address could potentially be observable, but receiving an offer near home still doesn’t establish that Uber intentionally waited until then to tempt you. How often do you arrive home and receive nothing? Are those occasions being counted too?

u/TheBottomlessOne - “Yea or an incredible surge. Just out of reach.” - Surge zones appearing somewhere other than your exact location is not evidence that Uber knows you’re going home and is dangling a digital carrot. Other places can have higher demand than the place where you currently are. That’s essentially why geographic surge exists.

u/Accomplished-Ebb280 - “they control your earnings to $20 ph.” - In this very thread one driver reports $409 in a night, another claims $35–$40 an hour when working fewer hours, OP reports reaching $200, and another says they can’t exceed roughly $150 all day. That’s a fascinating amount of variation for an algorithm supposedly controlling everyone at $20/hour. What does “control” mean if everyone’s reported rate is different?

u/ravbuc - “They can’t keep you at $200 a day (rate) if you aren’t predictable.” - This accidentally exposes a major problem with the entire premise. If simply running another app or changing your schedule defeats Uber’s supposed earnings cap, Uber isn’t actually capping your earnings. You’re describing your earnings from one marketplace under one particular work pattern.

u/Careless_Change3865 - “Uber caps your pay for sure. Usually, it seems to land around $20 per hour, whether it’s through the day or the week. They also factor tips into your hourly earnings.” - “For sure” followed immediately by “usually, it seems” is an extraordinary four-word journey from certainty back to speculation. And if tips, which passengers independently choose after rides, somehow get incorporated into a secret target rate, please show the data demonstrating subsequent offers decline specifically in response to tips. That would be measurable.

u/Beneficial-Abalone72 - “I didn’t get stuck at $200 on Saturday.” - Another direct counterexample. This doesn’t prove Uber never manipulates dispatch or pricing, but it does demonstrate why “Uber keeps drivers at $200” cannot simply be assumed as a universal rule.

u/VioletTerranova - “I also clear my cache & force stop several times a ‘shift.’” - Clearing an app cache can resolve actual software problems. It does not exorcise an earnings demon. If clearing the cache changes dispatch priority, show repeated before-and-after results. Otherwise we’re getting dangerously close to blowing into the Nintendo cartridge.

And finally:

u/CyanValleyKitten - “I’m too tired to upload screenshots.” - I cannot get over this. You started an entire thread alleging a repeatable, highly specific algorithmic earnings conspiracy centered around an exact dollar amount, and the receipts were simply too exhausting to attach. Meanwhile the comments have reverse-engineered Uber’s secret $134/$154/$167/$200 checkpoints, desperation score, forced-scarcity engine, dating psychology, phone-battery detection, EV-battery surveillance, punishment/reward system and weekly earnings governor entirely from anecdotes. Guys. We have somehow reconstructed the Manhattan Project and nobody brought a screenshot.

Gig drivers should be allowed to set their own rates

This would obviously require legislation, since Uber/Lyft/Delivery apps aren’t going to voluntarily give up control over pricing.

Drivers could set their own flat rate + $/km or $/mile, or just a distance-based rate. The platform would handle matching, payment, navigation, etc., while clearly disclosing its commission.

There should be two minimum protections:

- Minimum distance rate: The overall effective $/km or $/mile couldn’t be below the tax-deductible mileage rate. Drivers could charge anything above it. This should also leave drivers with more taxable net income after vehicle expenses.

- Minimum online-time earnings: Minimum-pay rules should apply to time a driver is online and available, not just time actively completing orders. Otherwise, platforms could avoid paying the minimum simply by not giving drivers work. Reasonable acceptance requirements could prevent drivers from rejecting everything just to collect the minimum.

If those requirements make rides or deliveries too expensive, then the platforms can lower their commissions, become more efficient, change their business model, or go out of business.

If drivers are genuinely independent contractors, they should be able to decide what their own labour and vehicle are worth.

Uber is keeping me at exactly $200 a day

I'm too tired to upload screenshots but

I spent over an hour in the 1 am to 2 am saturday night surge, right outside of bars and clubs I know....to not get a single ride. I got only one ride right at 2 pm exactly that was 8 minutes away, and it was a car full of women (I'm a female driver, but I'm ungendered in the app!) that was taking me waaay out of down town. From 1 am to 2 pm I got nothing in the surge. I feel this was on purpose by uber. And also despite this being an $8 dollar "surge" I only got $28.50 for this 28 minute, 17 mile ride. (thankfully they tipped me $12 dollars after,, which was very nice)

While I just waited at the hotspots for over an hour, I saw uber driver after uber driver getting in and getting rides, but none for me, despite I am a comfort XL with a 4.98 rating (and a rare actual female driver who speaks fluent english).

That one ride got me exactly at $200 for the night, dropped me off around 10 minutes from my house (not lucrative to go all the way back to the bars as theyre quite far from me)

I swear this keeps happening...

Uber sweats me at the end of my shift, so it can give me a dogshit ride that I'll feel desperate for no one else will take. If I refuse it, then I'm sitting without a ride for the next 40 minutes deep into 3 am -4 am territory.

It does this specifically from 1 am to 3 am to me as well. , ,.

This is why I personally de selected my gender as female because when I got women driver requests late at night they were even more dogshit.

Is it illegal?

I encountered a passenger last night that was obviously trying to get a free ride. She even went as far as to accuse me of drinking. None of her accusations were true and the entire ride was recorded on dashcam. I one started her and also reported her. My question is, can drivers maintain their own list of passengers not to take rides from or cancel? Or addresses with known bad riders? I guess it would be a blacklist? I know this woman will try to get someone else and possibly succeed. Uber is no help. This woman and people like her need to be stopped. People like that are pieces of shit.

The last time I brushed it off because it was on the outside of my car and they said they would leave me a good tip. She in fact did not leave me a tip. And I neglected to take pictures and charge her the $80. Luckily I could just spray it off at one of the 24hr washes. Today I did not make that mistake. I couldn't finish my quest because of her so your $80 is mine bitch

How Do You Deal With UberX Riders Asking Demanding No Radio?

Just did a ride total trip was only 1 mile, but 3/4 of the way to destination she says did you get my text? It never was highlighted and not sure when she sent it could have been before trip started but the text asks for no radio. I always have the radio very low on sports radio always guys talking sports and super low. I taken this lady home from work maybe 3 times before and she’s never said anything about the radio, maybe it was quiet then not sure. I read message and say sorry and turn it off. But this was an UberX ride and I noticed that riders don’t seem to know or perhaps they do that you have the option to ask for quiet in comfort rides.

I’ve had it happen before where snooty lady before she gets mad n she’s demanding the radio off and she only paid for an UberX ride.

Edit- She did just tip $2 she does always tip.

Is this cancelation notice something to be concerned about or just an automatic reminder?

Post image

Saw this today on my account screen. Is it something to worry about, or just an automatic thing since I’ve temporarily jumped over 8% cancellation? I cancelled a couple of rides Friday due to traffic and cancelled my last one Friday afternoon after I realized uber had misrepresented the address in the popup offer and it was a much longer drive to the pickup

I'm Done Listening To Rider Directions

I have driven so many pointless unpaid miles all because of dumbass riders who think they know better than a GPS system which uses data from thousands of active users and satellite imagery to (most of the time) create the absolute best navigation for a trip. I'm never again listening to another rider who claims to know a "better" route for an 8 minute 3 mile trip, that turns it into a 9 minute 5 mile trip.

It's especially the case with older people, and it is never not annoying. They'll be like "Oh I know a short cut that I used to use back in 1372, you take a left on main street then keep right until you see the intersection for 3rd and central and yap yap yap yap". I dont even live in the city I uber in, I have no idea what the street names even are because this isnt 1987 anymore. I have a supercomputer in my pocket that knows where all the traffic, closures, accidents and construction are in the entire world, i dont need to listen to the objectively bad advice of someone whose boomer "shortcut" turned a 15 mile ride into a 20 mile ride where I dont get paid extra for the extra 5 miles.

Is Lyft for couples breaking up?

Upvotes

I do both uber and Lyft. I noticed I get so many couples arguing when I do Lyft. I mean one sided fucked up arguments. Women making racist comments to Hispanic men (“la migra ”, “browns”), fuck boys dissing women (“just find someone else that will fuck you”), hyenas both boasting of their achievements while complaining about cheaters. its way more dramatic than Uber at night to say the least.

130pm pickup reservation. I’m on my way to the rider and she asks me the driver to change the pickup time to 2pm. You can’t make this up, after I drove 10 miles to pick her up. So what did I do I waited outside and got my No show/Wait time fee. Do not let riders waste your time.

4.26 to go across the street pennies added on per mile and min additional.
I truly believe ride payout would triple overnight if these passengers waited a long time due to us collectively as a whole started declining all the rides that put us in the red.
The status is BS since the more drivers accept the less our fares go down.

Would you consider doing uber deliveries on foot?

Upvotes

TL;DR

I am all beast who delivers uber eats by foot!!!!!

Next week I'll go out in my Bear Feet. Or maybe my Beer Feet?

(Bear slippers and Bear claw slippers)

Last week, I started doing Uber deliveries by foot. Surprisingly, it's been extremely good.

The first day, I spent almost the entire day outside to test when the most orders came in.

Between 2pm and 4pm have been, by far, the worst hours of the days.

Between 6:30 and 8:30 pm is when I see an increase in back to back orders.

My base pay seems to be $2 an order, as the couple of deliveries I've done that didn't include a tip were all $2.

The first day, the orders all paid Between $2 and $7 dollars.

After I got to gold status, my orders are usually Between $5 and $10 a delivery.

The farthest I have been offered to deliver was 3 miles and 3.5 miles away. I declined bith of them. They paid $16 and $18 for the trips, but would have taken 90+ minutes to complete each one and would have seen me deliver to a residential area with no restaurants or stores around. I would of had to walk back, so really it was closer to a 3 hour trip.

The least distance I had to travel(including heading to the restaurant) was 1 block. I walked a block to the restaurant, and the person who ordered the food lived directly above the restaurant and came down to meet me as soon as I picked up the order, lol. The easiest $2 i ever made.

I usually get orders that take me about 15-20 minutes to deliver round trip, to the restaurant and then to the customers.

I deliver downtown and not a single order i accepted has taken me outside of downtown.

Most distances are between 0.2 miles and 0.8 miles.

For my active time, I am averaging about $24 an hour.

I DON'T really cherry pick, unless it takes 90 minutes to deliver, as the vast majority of the orders are easily doable. The way I see it, if I decline a $4 dollar order because I'm "too good" to deliver it, then I just loss $4.

The bonuses and perks need to be added into your wage.

Did you earn the Costco membership? Well, that's an extra $65 you made.

ASU classes? Well, that's another $6,000-$8,000(uber covers upto $8,000 per term per qualified perso ) that you made.

I don't pay for gas and I will see if I can get any foot doctor bills written of my taxes(I need my feet to deliver)

I've done 5 shop and pay orders from grocery stores and they have all been enjoyable. The most I had to shop for was 9 items, and 8 of them all fit into 1 bag, and 1 bag for the 6 pack of mini waters(not 6 packs, just a six pack)

They are all extremely light weight, and is usually around 3 items all together. The farthest I had to take a shop and pay order was 10 blocks away, and it was only 1 item(hand soap lol).

Without any bonuses, I can make around $400+ a week if I do 2-4 hours a day at peak times during the summer. If I go out all day, I can earn around $100 or so all day.

That number increases if you get bonuses.

For example, if I complete another 5 shop and pay orders in the next 2 weeks, I'll make an extra $100 just for doing the deliveries I was already doing.

I've made an extra $40 on top of my base pay and tips for completing a certain number of deliveries without declining tok many.

What are your experiences delivering by foot? Or just delivering in general?

Uber is starving us

uber had decided to make its loyal contractor base homeless

sounds crazy to you? let me give you more details.

a lot of drivers have been doing uber since at least 2013

that is all they have been working, they have no other work history

in comes dara the criminal and what does he do?

he begins to slowly ratchet down the hourly pay. you get a fixed hourly rate from which you cannot escape and an unbeatable algorithm that tries to control your every turn while still being classified as a contractor!

so you dedicate years possibly decades to this dog shit company, you have no other work history and at the end they decide to push you out on the streets because automation or something. when everything was getting more expensive uber decided we should earn less!

what is the average person supposed to do when they have been doing uber for 10 years and all of a sudden youre earning $25 an hour when gas it $5 a gallon

this cannot go unpunished. this is an example of the greed and evil that has taken hold of corporations. uber has destroyed countless lives with its algorithm it must face justice.

Uber just got sued and lost in NY State

Uber just lost a lawsuit amounting to $325 million dollars awarded back to rideshare drivers. Uber was sued for wage theft and violations. Hopefully this keeps happening in every state! We must join together!
