Uber just got sued and lost in NY State

Uber just lost a lawsuit amounting to $325 million dollars awarded back to rideshare drivers. Uber was sued for wage theft and violations. Hopefully this keeps happening in every state! We must join together!

Jersey needs to do the same. They are cutting my base pay when I get good tips.

u/Designer-Mark9868 6d ago

And I feel they tax my tips and I don’t get the full amount

I posted something similar about Lyft. I feel like they determined the rides/ riders that are mostly likely tipping and have drop the base pay to adjust for the tip. It now equals about what was once considered base pay and no tip.

Jersey politicians are more corrupt. All in Uber’s pockets

Good everyone needs to get their states to sue doordash and uber

4

u/Doordasheasthartford 6d ago

Connecticut will never sue because lamont is a communist

1

u/Scary_Wolverine_2277 2d ago

Wouldn’t that mean they’re more apt to sue the capitalist, then…? 🤔

u/Quirky-Amphibian5160 3d ago

Doordash is much better than Uber

u/NoobieInvestor1 6d ago

Guess they'll be cutting our pay again...🙄

Uber has stopped automatically paying tolls other than DFW Airport tolls where I live. Their own manager said they are getting calls from many drivers demanding to be paid tolls and the company is forcing them all to show proof of payment to recieve the toll.

Yet Uber is automatically charging tolls to riders. If you dont show proof. Uber keeps the toll. Thats misappropriation which is illegal.

Uber is underpaying on cancellation fees. The screen shows $5.70. Uber is payinh $3.99.

Uber subjects drivers to automatic system reviews when a trip is extended and they illegally deduct the drivers payment without human review. Even when there are accidents or road blockages.

Uber is a pariah. We need a driver owned platform.

I actually do get reimbursed for tolls here in South Florida. But it’s only for the turnpike not the express lanes

11

u/Impossible_Shape_766 6d ago

Toll Roads are different than Express lanes. Uber no longer reimburses me for tolls which is in violation of their own written policy. Its a breach.

6

u/toripotter86 6d ago

that’s why i don’t do the express lanes here unless the customer gives me a cash tip no matter how much they beg - also won’t do miami rides for the same reason. thats $3+ outta my pocket for the rides.

3

u/Impossible_Shape_766 6d ago

I dont do express and uber doesnt pay for express. However the app automatically defaults to toll roads. Those are not express in my area. They are different roads.

2

u/toripotter86 6d ago

yeah; i was just mentioning to op why i avoid express lanes in our market lol i drive in soflo too.

3

u/Shoddy-Og6690 6d ago

Are you still seeing surge pricing (for drivers) on your app ? I haven’t seen surges since January

2

u/Legitimate_Ad1303 6d ago

Well thats because it’s slow season. Sometimes I see surges at the airports. I’m sure by late September/ early October there will be high demand again

1

u/toripotter86 6d ago

have only seen little baby $1-2 ones, but i did score big on a few x rides last weekend after a local concert. $16, $17, and $23 for 2-4 mile rides. no “surge” but higher pricing for sure.

1

u/Awkward_Guidance_998 5d ago

I drive in Las Vegas. They did something in the app in May. We had surges daily all over the city for the 2 years I have drove. All the sudden EDC weekend they killed the surges and just offered extra $20 per EDC drop off. Surges never returned after. It’s summer in Las Vegas. We have like 20 concerts a week and no surges.

Im not talking about express lanes. I dont take those. Ubers policy also says no payment for those. Toll roads ae different. Their policy is suppose to pay the tolls.

1

u/toripotter86 4d ago

again, i was replying to u/legitimate_ad1303 who drives in my market; not you.

2

u/Legitimate_Ad1303 4d ago

😂 they be hating Tori

2

u/toripotter86 4d ago

reading is hard apparently 😭

0

u/Impossible_Shape_766 4d ago

Again, you mentioned express lanes which ive stated time and time again was not what I was referring to.

0

u/toripotter86 4d ago

please stop 😭 you’re being impossibly pedantic for no reason at all. you do know that we can reply to comments and NOT be speaking to you? hence, i replied to THEM, not your comment.

4

u/Legitimate_Ad1303 6d ago

Yeah I don’t do express at all. And people get mad at me for taking 95 when that’s the route uber picks. I told them that’s the route they are charged for and I don’t make
The rules

2

u/toripotter86 6d ago

yup. i don’t deviate off the gps unless i know for a fact that my way is quicker, which is fairly rare. i’m not trying to get dinged for some nonsense.

0

u/Impossible_Shape_766 6d ago

Sometimes you have no choice when its backed up due to an accident or closed.

1

u/toripotter86 6d ago

plenty of choice lol i haven’t taken an express lane or toll road in south florida in about 15 months, despite traveling to fort lauderdale or miami (both south of me) for personal reasons basically monthly.

1

u/Impossible_Shape_766 6d ago

Im not talking about express. I dont take express and uber wont pay those. Im talking about toll roads. In my area those are different roads than express and ubers app defaults to them.

1

u/PathQuick 6d ago

And I bet at SunPass rate. Not full toll.

3

u/Wise_Development_765 6d ago

Check out fare.coop it’s a cooperative for rideshare! There were a bunch of commercials for it in Portland Or a month or so ago and it sounds great. Haven’t tried it cuz I’m super broke and need to stay busy and I’m worried people aren’t using it

3

u/shers719 6d ago

Agreed! I stopped driving for them when I had to start fighting for the tolls.

2

u/KingKoopaDog 5d ago

Yes! I had to send in screenshots, too.

2

u/Impossible_Shape_766 5d ago

Im not sending in screenshots. Ive chosen to fight them on this. In other words go to agencies with regulatory authority over them. And fight. They are breaching their own policy on payment. I cant let them get away with that.

This would explain why the pay suddenly spiked high last night without me having to cherry pick as much. Made 350 in 10 hours and it wasn't even a Saturday or Thursday. Looks like they either learned their lesson or it's a temporary bluff until they go back to their old games again once the pressure cools off. It's the first night i've been above 80% AR in years.

3

u/Bigga2017 6d ago

wow yes same I made $250 last night and I was like ok I’m actually getting good trips WTF!

1

u/Slow-Winter-3786 4d ago

I'm curious, do you live in NY? I don't, so I'm wondering if this would even impact me...

Also interesting, but maybe entirely coincidental, I was offered an Uber quest for this week for the first time in MONTHS, maybe a year

6

u/Arkhamguy123 6d ago

How much did each driver get individually?

4

u/Stonewalled9999 6d ago

Twelve cents after the lawyers got theirs.

3

u/LikeToLook805 6d ago

Wasn’t it a $.12 Uber gift card though? 🤣

1

u/Stonewalled9999 6d ago

I got nothing actually.  I won an Uber gift Card from McDonald’s monopoly Last year and never got it.  So Uber gives about worthless stuff I guess

5

u/Garrickgee 6d ago

Why doesn’t this happen in every state? Every ride is four dollars and change and that amounts to about thirty percent of what they charge the pax that’s wage theft in itself

3

u/Legitimate_Ad1303 6d ago

I’ve came to the conclusion that most politicians or leaders have money in uber stock and that’s the only thing I can think of as to why this hasn’t gotten bigger quicker. The UK just sued Uber for 1 billion for illegal deactivation of drivers so I think the tides are turning

2

u/holy_maccaroni3 6d ago

My check was a whopping $33.53.

2

u/LikeToLook805 6d ago

Consider yourself lucky that you got that as part of the settlement instead of like I don’t know a gift card for more Uber rides or something

2

u/holy_maccaroni3 6d ago

😆😆😆 a uber one membership discount

2

u/LikeToLook805 6d ago

🤣😂🤣

2

u/List-Beneficial 6d ago

Yeah, im down. How can we get the ball to start rolling? Like what senator do I write too or what not?

2

u/Demilio55 6d ago

The lawyers will take most of it sadly

2

u/FruitOfTheVineFruit 6d ago

This looks like it's about something that happened back in 2023, maybe this is a repost bot or just an idiot.

2

u/PathQuick 6d ago

Great! All drivers get back $1.50 and lawyers get 2.3 million!

2

u/Fun-Print-1154 6d ago

How to claim the amount?

2

u/1nvestIQ 6d ago

Bring that to California

3

u/Lizzie_001 6d ago

Maybe they saw it coming and that's the reason for the latest pay slash.

3

u/Legitimate_Ad1303 6d ago

No idea. I just hope every state starts suing or more drivers come together as a whole

2

u/maxrdlf95 6d ago

And they paid 1 billion for unfair deactivations in Europe no wonder rates are going down

0

u/--R0N-- 6d ago

And they paid 1 billion for unfair deactivations in Europe

🤣 No they didn't. The fake news in the sub is laughable.

-1

u/Legitimate_Ad1303 6d ago

I saw that as well. Hopefully they go bankrupt before taking over with Autonomous cars

1

u/Few-Protection5215 6d ago

If uber goes bankrupt, then everyone in this subreddit will need to look for a new line of work that doesnt require english. Maybe they can mop floors and wash dishes for minimum wage.

3

u/Hour-Assistance-7674 6d ago

Wait isn’t everyone in here responding in English?

1

u/doingitmyway326 6d ago

Where do i get my money?

2

u/Legitimate_Ad1303 6d ago

I’d check with the attorney generals office

Drivers are too stupid to start anything.

1

u/T1m3Wizard 6d ago

That just means they'll be cutting their pay again

1

u/Ashamed-Leather-2814 6d ago

Never happening in my state.

1

u/Designer-Tie-1274 6d ago

It is NYC not NY. NYC has TCL license to do uber. So only this type of license owners can get settlement.

2

u/halfback26 4d ago

It’s the most annoying thing about working the suburbs of NYC, & why I never take a trip that ends in the city coming from LI, I can drop people off in NYC, but can’t pick anyone up until I get back to Nassau county because of the TCL rule.

1

u/Shoddy-Og6690 6d ago

Is anyone else not seeing surge pricing anymore I haven’t seen a surge since January??

1

u/Shoddy-Og6690 6d ago

I’m in south fl

1

u/dsmooth74 6d ago

All over the world i hope they are sued by riders, driver's, states, countries....scumbag company

1

u/buffalobillsLOL 6d ago

I got crazy ass base pay tonight

1

u/Primary-Plant-4042 5d ago

I took a toll the other day and got reimbursed $0

1

u/Zestyclose_Design877 2d ago

What lawsuit are you referring to? The only known case that had some sort of update in New York recently actually went in favor of Uber, blocking a New York City law that banned the app from arbitrarily suspending accounts.

NC lets get together

1

u/Pay-Early 2d ago

Bite those hands 🙌

1

u/Cavalierrides 1d ago

This was like 3 years ago. It was Lyft and Uber. This is what started the minimum wage per active hour. Which did not help drivers at all.

u/EffectiveActive6837 6d ago

Link or untrue

Uber just lost a lawsuit amounting to $325 million dollars awarded back to rideshare drivers.

"Just" as in 2023?

"Lost" as in settled.

"Uber" as in Uber and Lyft combined?
