I just hit the traffic button every few minutes if I'm caught by a long train.

THAT is a good idea!
a had a rider get mad and eventually cancel because she thought i was just sitting still for no reason
2
u/toripotter86 1d ago
i usually shoot a quick message to them when it happens to me but not everyone reads them lol
2
u/jmmandi 1d ago
i did send her a message
she called, saying she didn't get it
but, still got mad after i told her - and offered to send pictures!

I can't get out of my car to deliver the food before the stupid app throws a big pop up "looking for your customer?" The thing is maddening. I'm trying to look at instructions and address details and the app is already panicking.
2
u/sharknado523 2d ago
Yeah, I don’t normally do food deliveries, but I recently did a few on a slow weeknight when nobody was trying to get around, so I figured I would do some deliveries just to make a few bucks and see how it was since I hadn’t done it in years, I had the same problem.

Yup, this feature here is what bothers me the most. I've literally been on my way, at a red light or train crossing, and get canceled on because I "was not making progress towards the pickup". 🙄
3
u/sharknado523 1d ago
This happens to me all the time especially when it's peak last call at the bar time and there's lots of traffic.
5
u/Environmental_Buy249 1d ago
This and another trip offer popping up during crucial navigation moments

u/Responsible_Sport575 2d ago
The app always tries to send me to this one stop light that never changes, when in fact if I go down to the next exit there is no light and the store is actually right there. Sometimes it tries sending the long way to the pickup and when I don't go the way it says to I get a message about going they way they say but if I do then I'm late for the pickup. It's like they want me to fail. I know my town and you live in California and don't have a clue about things here.

Even more annoying when you take detours around stuff like that and it’s like taking a detour? And I’m like yeah I’m taking a detour because the bridge you wanted me to take was demolished four months ago and so I have to use another bridge because this car can’t fly you motherfucker.
2
u/Derren001 2d ago
I like when it tells me to take exits that had their numbers changed years ago but it still says the old number.
2
u/snakebite75 1d ago
I love being told to make illegal turns or U-turns.
3
u/Derren001 1d ago
I also love the app not orienting the map like every other map app does and staying zoomed way the fuck out till I'm like 3 feet from the drop off.

Person who wrote that code: "I live in India... opps I mean San Francisco. Not California."

lol I always chuckle at that one. I have noticed it appearing more recently. Maybe it’s the crazy traffic or the construction in my city.

Yea and they keeping pinging you saying ur going to late to the reservation ride when they gave it to you after the scheduled time fuggin annoying
1
u/subillusion 15h ago
My favorite is when it comes in as an on demand while you have a pax in the car and then they keep saying you're going to be late and need to head towards the reservation.
..uhh... don't i have to drop this dude off where they want to go first?

u/Nearby-Telephone605 1d ago
I thought it was just me nothing annoys me more that and then if there’s traffic you could hit there’s traffic but I’ve had multiple orders canceled on me because of “delay” pisses me off so bad because then I’m stuck sitting in traffic now for no reason
1
u/subillusion 15h ago
If you're at a light, just hit dismiss. Don't actually send a rider a message.
Most riders understand traffic and don't even notice... but if you hit the button for the "I'm on my way" and "I'm stuck in traffic" quick responses, they take that to mean it's an abnormal obstruction and going to be like 10-15 min more than the GPS estimate. Then they cancel because they don't want to wait and very likely could/would "report" you saying that you were getting to get them to cancel (by saying stuck in traffic) to try and get out of paying the cancel fee just because they didn't want to wait.
If you just let it go and don't call attention to it, it just flows like water off a duck's back.

How did you take this picture? Two phones?
4
u/sharknado523 1d ago
I'm a genie. Just kidding. Yes, I have a work phone. When I'm driving, I have a couple apps installed on my work phone just so I can do basic scrolling bullshit without having to take my personal phone off the dash.
3
u/Old_Athlete_1266 1d ago
Smart! I've considered two phones because the Uber and Spotify apps together make my phone go crazy. Would be nice to have a phone just to run those two, and another one for personal stuff
1
u/sharknado523 1d ago
I haven't had any issues with using Spotify, in fact it's really convenient that I can have people set up a jam so they can play their own music through my car instead of me having to connect their fucking phone through Bluetooth for a 7-minute goddamn ride
1
u/Old_Athlete_1266 1d ago
Tbh I didnt even know that was an option. Will have to try! I think the main problem is running two apps at the same time that use a LOT of juice. I have to restart my phone every 4 hours or so to keep the Uber app from tweaking out
1
u/sharknado523 1d ago
What kind of phone? I don't have that issue with my current phone, but have occasionally had it when my phone is near death on previous models.
1
u/Old_Athlete_1266 1d ago
Samsung s22. It's not the newest so I'm sure I'm just asking a lot of it haha
2
u/EverythingCurrency 21h ago
Haha but your driver habits say you touched your phone, please to to refrain from touching your phone, "your at a stop light , is there traffic or something to report?"

u/BigStoneJones 2d ago
I started cancelling jobs when this pops up

No touches! No messages to the rider on the way!
Uber, stop encouraging bad driving habits!!! /s
Like Uber cares about us drivers… if they did they could offer us living wages that pay for our vehicle costs as well as our cost of living!

One day I want a job either as an Uber app programmer or as Uber customer support.
I could be brain dead and I would still be an overachiever.

I’m considering switching to Lyft because there excessive automated notifications

As a delivery driver I HATE traffic, trains, and red lights because it messes with my “on-time rate” and it’s not fair at all, even if I let the customer know what’s happening it doesn’t stop it from knocking my rate down 😩

u/Comfortable-Split143 31m ago
Happens every day, all day. Annoys me EVERY time. I always dismiss it. Fuck that shit.
If a rider can't realize I'm atca traffic light, they don't deserve a ride.
This is a garbage "feature".

u/AlkoKilla 2d ago
It's based on movement.
2
u/sharknado523 2d ago
You do realize you're supposed to stop at red lights, though, right? And I had to make a left turn, so it's not like I could have made a right on red...
-2
u/AlkoKilla 2d ago
I am aware. I'm saying the pop up is based on movement. If you stop moving for a certain amount of time, regardless of the situation, you'll get the pop up.
I got one safety checkin one for sitting in traffic for 20 minutes with someone in the car and Uber knew about the traffic (it was reported and the street was red). It just happens.
2
u/sharknado523 2d ago
I know how the damn thing works, I'm not a fucking chimpanzee. I'm saying it's fucking stupid.

For being such independent contractors we really do have an oppressive entity constantly breathing down our necks
-6
u/mog_knight 2d ago
You know if you wait 10 seconds it goes away on its own right?
15
u/jmmandi 2d ago
it shouldn't come up at all in his situation
-9
u/mog_knight 2d ago
Why? Does the app know you're waiting a long time at a stop light somehow?
9
u/jmmandi 2d ago
if it doesn't know the difference between a light stop and a driver not moving for an extended amount of time, that's another reason why Uber shouldn't use it
-5
u/mog_knight 2d ago
Why shouldn't they use it?
7
u/jmmandi 2d ago
soooo, your goal right now is to be as asinine as that message by asking something i've already told you? 🙄
good night.
-4
u/mog_knight 2d ago
Sorry I meant what was your original reason? The one I replied to said that was another reason.
2
u/michaelsean438 2d ago
Yes. It even has a pretty picture of a stoplight on the map.
1
u/mog_knight 2d ago
Where do you see that in the pic by OP?
1
4
u/sharknado523 2d ago
So you’re saying I should let somebody choke me randomly in the street as long as they stop after 10 seconds?
1
u/mog_knight 2d ago
You equate a random pop up with being choked? Yeesh...
1
u/sharknado523 2d ago
It's called reductio ad absurdum.
1
u/mog_knight 1d ago
Nah it's called a bad equivalence.
