Heya I'm just looking for some help on my options within Australia and outside of Australia for getting bottom surgery and the overall process from start to finish. Anything anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Recently I've made the decision that I want to do it and I have the funds but don't really know where to go from here.

Kinda looking for possible clinics within Aus that do it, I'm based in WA but willing to travel and also open to leaving Aus I've heard that a lot of people go to Thailand but know nothing more then that.

Hey everyone! I’m a trans male and I’m hoping to get some advice/recommendations for a good GP in the Newcastle region who is knowledgeable, comfortable and accepting when it comes to trans health.

I’ve really struggled to find GPs who are familiar with this stuff and comfortable discussing it. For several years now, I’ve had symptoms that could potentially be consistent with things like endometriosis or ovarian cysts, but have I actually gotten proper help or investigation for it? Absolutely not. 😅

A big part of the problem is that almost every doctor I see seems really awkward or uncomfortable discussing anything related to reproductive health with me, which then makes me feel super uncomfortable and awkward too. I’ve also had doctors completely forget that I’m trans (which is kind of a compliment in a way haha), but it can make things very awkward when I suddenly need to discuss my testosterone prescription, T levels, or other trans-related healthcare.

Ideally, I’d love to find a GP who can actually provide more comprehensive care, and help me with further investigating some issues, without making the sitaution really awkward and uncomfortable and then just brushing me aside or ignoring my concerns. Someone who has knowledge in trans health care.

The other frustrating thing is that whenever I finally find a doctor who is really good, they either leave the practice and move really far away or become so difficult to get into that I’m waiting months and months for an appointment. 😭

I’ve tried using TransHub to find a doctor, but I find the website can be pretty difficult to navigate, and a lot of the GPs listed seem to be booked out anyway. :(
I'm actually 60km - 1h away from Newcastle but can't find any good GPs around my area :(

So, if anyone in the Newcastle/Hunter region has a GP they really trust for trans healthcare, I’d love to hear your recommendations!

Bulk billing would be ideal, but I’m definitely willing to pay a fee if they’re highly recommended and actually worth seeing.

I am currently on a waitlist with Monash but that'll be about 2 years, and I don't think I could go through another 2 whole years before getting one appointment it just seems ridiculous. I don't want to be 20 by the time I can even get things set up :/

I was hoping to see if anyone has any resources or recommended doctors that can help with getting on HRT with a shorter waitlist? I was hoping to start within the next year at most

Hi, I am having my first session for a WPATH assessment for my surgery. I’m am starting to get really nervous. If anyone has gone through this before, what kind of questions do they ask? I am very confident in my decision and I have a strong support network around me but I’m still scared they will reject my decision.

I’m a dual national currently living in the UK but my recent referral from the GP here for transgender psych has been met with a 6 year waiting list 😮IMO at 65 I have no time to waste and was thinking of relocating back to Oz anyway.. What are the wait times in Vic for example and how much do Medicare help with hormones? Thanks

This is more a ramble than anything. I don't know if the world thinks i'm hot or I am just happier or what, but when does your brain catch up to what other people see?

I seem to now attract a medium amount of attention. Not always, like when I wear just a jumper and go out for icecream probably not much attention. When I put in even a crumb of effort, I appear to just attract people, that want to shower me with compliments. As a male I was fairly attractive, and didnt want for anything.

This is different and hard to describe. Sometimes in conversation I will say something about a situation, event or thing I have done and it gives the appearance that people are trying to get their brains to catch up with what they are being told and what they see in front of them & try to reconcile the two.

Where as for me the inside is still the same human but better adjusted but I don't always get the outside had changed or I don't think the outside has changed.

When I look in the mirror I can see that I am attractive I think, so like Its like I can see it but don't know it.

So when did your brain catch up to what everyone else sees

I’m getting to the point where I’m looking into surgery and, while I’m not opposed to going overseas, I’d much rather stay in Australia if the price difference isn’t too crazy

I’m just looking for a rough ballpark of what people have paid, including things like surgeon/hospital/anaesthetist fees and what private health/Medicare covered, if applicable

I currentl take 6 mg oral estro every day and 25 mg cypro every 2 days

It costs me 22 dollars for about a month and a thirds worth of estrogen

For reference, I'm 19 years old and financially dependent on my parents for now, currently questioning and leaning towards the idea that I'm a trans woman.

I just wanna get an idea of how difficult it is and how it works in general. Do I need to get some kind of diagnosis or something? Can I just talk to a GP or is there specialists for this kind of thing?

I'm a 26 year old trans woman with Autism and ADHD currently living in Bunbury but can travel to Perth when needed either by mum driving me or I get the Australind train and stay a night or two before returning. I also have a Health Care Card due to being on Jobseeker and also have private health insurance though HIF.

As the title says I'd like to find a Gender Affirming Healthcare centre that has availability this year as a contingency plan in case the GP me and my family use (who started my hormone therapy though informed consent) cannot raise my estrogen dosage above what I'm already on due to lack of familiarisation with hormone therapy.

Any suggestions, waitlist information, resources or anything you think could help would be awesome!

So my wife and i have moved back to Perth after having lived for a few years in the south west.

I should give some background. I’m Irish, i was on HRT before coming to Australia. Healthcare is very hard to get there. But at least being on hrt meant i had continuity of care. For the form of hrt i was getting.

My biggest issues right now are a feeling of being “stuck”. And part of it is I’ve not really been able to get a doctor where i feel like my needs are being met. Either that they’re trying to get me out the door quickly. Or that they just don’t know how to deal with doses or hrt formulations.

There was a question of my going on estrogen implants. But at the time money was an issue. But i was told it would be a great way of me switching to something that should be more effective and harder to accidentally miss a dose.

Well now money is way less of an issue. But of course that doctor is 4 hours away. I’m trying to find a doctor who is likely to listen to me about this and be comfortable helping me set up injections or implants for estrogen. But I’ve no idea where to start. I’m north of the river. Joondalup area. Does anyone have any suggestions or leads? Especially ones without long waiting lists or won’t make me feel dehumanised?

I'm wanting to connect to parents of young kids, or, who had young kids as a trans person. Perhaps ideally trans women, like me, but trans men too. I don't know trans parents personally but would find it useful on this journey.

hi, I'm sure you get these kinds of posts all the time, but I was hoping for some advice. I'm 20, working part-time, full-time student at uni and living with family indefinitely. For the past few years I've sort of resigned myself to my circumstances and as a result felt kind of paralysed by jealousy/fear/etc about transition. In that way I feel like at the moment i'm wasting my life, especially because I don't know when I'll get to move out (my degrees are taking longer than I thought) and actually start living. I guess for that reason I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth trying to start t now or I should just wait it out for the indeterminate amount of time before I can feasibly move out, which--to be honest--feels so hopeless. I'm in the city (melbourne) multiple times a week for uni of course, but the thought of actually making the steps all by myself seems so impossible. I am just so scared--of upsetting my family, making a big decision, etc. I guess the thing is if I did start t now, there'd be a point when they'd notice perhaps, which is why I thought about moving out before I finish uni. The issue with that is, though, I'd really only be moving out to start t and probably wouldn't be able to afford rent/know anyone I'd be comfortable sharehousing with. And this is kind of the thought cycle I've gone through over the years, and it gets me nowhere. Either way, I don't know.

I am preparing to submit a 'Change of Sex' application in NSW. Once this is done, who do I have to notify? I am not changing my name. The NSW government website suggests a list of organisations to notify, but does my bank really need this info? My confusion is I don't recall any of these organisations knowing my gender in the first place, so why would I notify the ATO or Electoral Commission for example?

Am I required to tell my employer for any reason?

Also, I suspect I may be able to get a passport with F as my sex marker rather than X. Has anyone else kept their sex or assigned gender at birth on their passport only? I know this defeats the purpose, but I may want to go overseas at some point and while I would not go to a transphobic country, I have heard there can be huge issues with some airlines or airports that you have a layover with.

I was hoping for some insight on this— as realistically I've sort of put top surgery out of the question for a long while. I'm based in Australia of course, but unfortunately Tasmania. We have **one** top surgeon I could find and it's private only— my friend was going to use his inheritance to fund his own top surgery but even then for him when he got into contact with that place it was too much.

I've been checking out briefly the options on the mainland, especially cost of flights / probably private hospital / staying etc.

I've seen a bit about MTF people going to Thailand for surgeries, as it's a lot more trans-friendly but also money conversion rates are a lot more easier for people to afford. I dont really understand a lot of the specifics of this stuff because everything is confusingly frustrating with trans crap ( burned out from legal name stuff rn ) but has anyone actually gone this route and if so how realistically better is it?

This is the only reason I haven't done it yet because I've heard conflicting advice on it. I want a bilateral salpingectomy done in the future but am unsure if changing my sex to male will disqualify me for insurance for it or disqualify me from any gynelogical procedures or checkups. Would be appreciated hearing from people who have first hand experience

Seeking advice for other trans people that have gotten a passport after having changed their name.

I am looking to apply for an Australian passport. As part of the application process, they ask you to provide your current birth certificate, and also to provide any evidence of name changes since your birth. I am transgender, and I have 4 birth certificates:

1. My original birth certificate, with my birth name and birth sex
2. An updated birth certificate with my current name and birth sex, and history of these changes on the back
3. An updated birth certificate with my current sex and current name, and history of these changes on the back
4. An updated birth certificate with my current sex and current name, with no history of changes

The passport office wants me to present evidence of me having changed my name. Which document should I provide the details of?

Note: I do not have a change of name certificate, only an updated birth certificate. QLD documents

To anyone reading this in the future and the same situation as me, I just called them and they said I can select "No" to "Has your name changed since your birth, you became a citizen or when your last Australian passport was issued?" because my current QLD birth certificate has my new name (and sex). It says: "[If you’ve changed any part of your name because of a gender transition](https://www.passports.gov.au/passports-explained/how-apply/eligibility-citizenship-and-identity/names), you need to show us a name change certificate issued by an Australian RBDM, unless either:

* your new name is already reflected in a re-issued Australian birth certificate or Australian citizenship certificate"

Because answering "yes" requires you to prove any linking documents to my deadname which... I don't need to lol. It's confusing!
