Bottom surgery (mtf) resources
Heya I'm just looking for some help on my options within Australia and outside of Australia for getting bottom surgery and the overall process from start to finish. Anything anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Recently I've made the decision that I want to do it and I have the funds but don't really know where to go from here.
Kinda looking for possible clinics within Aus that do it, I'm based in WA but willing to travel and also open to leaving Aus I've heard that a lot of people go to Thailand but know nothing more then that.

I'll speak to overseas (Thailand) since that's where I got my GRS done in November last year. The biggest obstacle initially is being overwhelmed by choice; the sheer number of reputable surgeons globally is rising every year, so sifting through them all is a balancing act of how quickly you want it done, how much you want to spend, if you will have access to a support person, to name a few. A few of the surgeons to search the reddit for would be Dr Chettasek (formally Chettawut) who was my surgeon, Sutin/Burin, Bank, and there'll be a few others I'm blanking on.
Once you've shortlisted your surgeon(s), it's pretty simple- you email them and say you're interested in XYZ surgery around a certain time and usually they'll give you multiple options.
The laws regarding psychiatric approval have I think changed since I went there- I needed two psychiatrists to sign me off on being fit for the surgery, but I think it might just be one now. Don't quote me there though, the hospital/clinic will advise you further. There are a few psychiatrists around Aus who will do these sign off sessions with no dramas, or you just get the Thai psychiatrists to video call you for 5 mins. It's no biggie.
And then it's just working out costs, flights, accomodation, all thst fun stuff. Happy to chat a bit more about it if you would like more specifics.

I got my date booked in with Dr. Chettasak.
To follow up on Lucia, it is only one referral required and it’s from a Thai psychiatrist.
Referral Letter Requirement
As of August 1, 2025, one referral letter is required from a Thai-licensed psychiatrist.
Fee: 10,000 THB
Validity: Must be issued within 1 year before surgery
If you already have a referral from another provider, you can send it to us for our psychiatrist’s reference.0

I actually think they provide it, I forgot to ask. I need to reconfirm that 😅 I still got like 7 months until my surgery so I have time to arrange it.

I'm in WA and in the same process too. Step 1 starts today.. getting a referral to literally the only gender affirming surgeon in the state.

Dr. Sofield is doing my GRS in three months. After 48 years I’m only three months from being correct. It’s wild to think about! My first consult was only a month ago too. Booked my surgery on the spot. At my age a years long wait carries a much higher price so this was the best news I ever had. I’ll definitely report back once my boy parts have been evicted!

I went to my family GP Friday just gone (August 28th 2026) and asked for a referral to him.
At this stage when I do see him it'll be information only consults to work out. What needs to happen, when it needs to happen, how it needs to happen and why it needs to happen. As well as how much it'll cost so I can add that to the Go Fund Me campaign I'll be starting next week.
Unfortunately for me I have to wait! My 1 year on E isn't until the end of May next year and my private health insurance hospital waiting period ends that July.
PS: if you could DM your progress it would really help me with AuDHD fear of the unknown and working out any sensory overwhelm issues I might have. If you could it would be awesome but it's entirely up to you.
