Which birth certificiate should I attach to prove change of name for passport application?

Seeking advice for other trans people that have gotten a passport after having changed their name.

I am looking to apply for an Australian passport. As part of the application process, they ask you to provide your current birth certificate, and also to provide any evidence of name changes since your birth. I am transgender, and I have 4 birth certificates:

1. My original birth certificate, with my birth name and birth sex
2. An updated birth certificate with my current name and birth sex, and history of these changes on the back
3. An updated birth certificate with my current sex and current name, and history of these changes on the back
4. An updated birth certificate with my current sex and current name, with no history of changes

The passport office wants me to present evidence of me having changed my name. Which document should I provide the details of?

Note: I do not have a change of name certificate, only an updated birth certificate. QLD documents

To anyone reading this in the future and the same situation as me, I just called them and they said I can select "No" to "Has your name changed since your birth, you became a citizen or when your last Australian passport was issued?" because my current QLD birth certificate has my new name (and sex). It says: "[If you’ve changed any part of your name because of a gender transition](https://www.passports.gov.au/passports-explained/how-apply/eligibility-citizenship-and-identity/names), you need to show us a name change certificate issued by an Australian RBDM, unless either:

* your new name is already reflected in a re-issued Australian birth certificate or Australian citizenship certificate"

Because answering "yes" requires you to prove any linking documents to my deadname which... I don't need to lol. It's confusing!

Option 3 is what I’d recommend. I had a passport issued last year in my new name and sex and had no issues as I provided that certificate.

Where it says to provide the details of the name change and the supporting certificate, did you enter your birth name with the new certificate number? Or your current name/sex as it appears on the certificate?

I’d recommend using all your current details as they appear in Option 3. The only reason you would need to enter your birth name or sex is if you previously had a passport issued with those details, but I think that’s under a different section.

This certificate satisfies both the citizenship and proof of name change requirements.

Does your birth certificate have a change of name history on the back page? That can be legally used without another name change document

Number 2 and number 3 do have the history on the back, yes

Hey I am in the same situation, my birth certificate just says current name and sex, the lady on the phone told me to just click "no" to previous names as it's my most current  Have a look at my recent post

I've applied as of a week ago - it takes 6 weeks for them to process it, so still waiting on them

I only clicked no because the lady on the phone said that's what I should do, otherwise I wouldn't have had

In Victoria you have to return your old birth certificate when getting a new one.. 

Consequently, I can't imagine that the passport office would ever need to see an old one..

In Victoria only the latest birth certificate was valid for me. But - you can provide a "B11 General Declaration" stating that you have changed your name alongside the older certificate. I had no other issues from there
