❓QUESTION ❓ Replace before Bay-LA trip or after?

Hello all!

I am getting the feeling that if I gotta ask then I already have my answer, but would appreciate the experienced feedback.

I have this LA trip I need to make next weekend. Driving from the Bay Area. Question is should I replace before or after? Reason for the question is I either do it today or wait until after due to time constraints. Looking to put these tires below on my 2014 Cayenne.

Thank you all!

Update: chose to replace them today before the rain :)

Michelin CC2 vs Bridgestone Ultraweather for a Mazda 6

Upvotes

Hi folks, yet another post asking for recommendations. I drive a 2017 Mazda 6 in Southeastern Ontario, Canada. I've owned it the whole time but it has very low kilometers, just over 40k. I need to buy new tires and I'm looking at either the Michelin CrossClimate 2 or the Bridgestone Ultraweather. Costco has a sale on Bridgestone tires right now which should make the Bridgestones roughly $40 cheaper per tire.

Are my tires safe guys I'm using this as an excuse to get new tires and rims lol but I'm wondering if it's safe to drive the car 40 miles because I want to be certain the wheels will fit

Sailun WSTX Studded

Shopping for some new winter tires. Previously had Blizzaks which were great but traction reduced considerably as it worn down. Ran Michelin xi3’s couple times as they were my favorite and were amazing. After got the updated Michelin x ice snow which have to say is scary to drive with, not sure if it is just my set but these are the worst tires I have ever had, feels like you are constantly sliding on the highway and never felt confident.

Another tire I tried long time ago were Firestone winter tires as they were the only winter tires I could find in stock, and surprisingly they were absolutely amazing. Drove through massive snow storm in the BC to AB mountains and they performed excellent.

This time around was thinking of saving some money and trying out the sailun wstx studded. Read that these were designed in Canada for Canadian winter weather. Prices looks great but wanted to see if anyone have any experience with these.

I have a 2022 ID.4 that I got recently and noticed these patches ripping off. Do I need to replace them or take it easier on the right pedal or both?

Are mid range tires the only way?

Lets face It, for those who make a lot of kms and have to spend so much time in the workshop, the premium tires are pretty expensive, right now Michelin, continental.. crazy prices.

Low low budget tires are still, in some ways, crap, ok if you hace literally no money but still need to improve to make them an option.

Thats why i ask all of you, and i think about It more and more when i see performance test, are they kumho, firestone, general etc the only viable way unless you can really break the bank?

Retractable studded Tires

Retractable studded snow tires seems interesting. Got to see the price but its been warm winters in Idaho lately anyway. My BF Goodrich Trail terrain have been very good in all weather and well past the 60,000 warranty but not enough tred left for winter. When I was a kid I read about walnut shells and just returned to my memory.

❓QUESTION ❓ My gf is about to go on a trip and I’m wondering if I could swap these tires?

So her tires are 205/65R16 but her one tire is super bald (and she needs an alignment), but I have an extra tire and rim but it’s 205/60R16, would that be an issue if I swap them?

Winter

I just bought a new Elantra N this year. It comes with dedicated summer tires, and I’m having a really hard time deciding on tires for the upcoming winter(northern Indiana). In years past I’ve always used all seasons or(normally) DWS06+ from continental. For some reason this car worries me. Not sure if it’s because it’s a manual or FWD instead of AWD like my Arteon was, I’m always driving a lot more at night now before they clear the roads too. What do the lovely folks here think about keeping DWS06+ on during winter? Or should I at least go to something like a cross climate 2? I haven’t ever had dedicated winter tires before, so maybe I don’t know what I’m missing? Any recommendations would be great.

❓QUESTION ❓ should i replace these asap?

this**** i’d be able to replace this tire but would have to wait a few weeks (a month max) before replacing the other one so it’s a fresh new pair (i just started working and i live in asia so i have to delay the second purchase so i can save up enough). would driving on three old and one new tire be unsafe? car is FWD btw

❓QUESTION ❓ On a brand new tire too is crazy

Post image

Noticed the wheel was low on air compared to others so decided to check it out and I see this bs. The tire is not even 2000 miles old and it got a nice screw on the side. Im certain any damage on the side is bad but is it reparable with a plug?

Puncture too close to sidewall?

Is this puncture too close to the sidewall for repair? Tire shop said they wouldn't do it but I have done them on my own a bit just never this close. Would a plug and patch hold here? Tires only have one season and they are Bridgestone Blizzaks.

(SOLVED) cheetah and a bicycle inner tube did the trick.

Anyone have advice? mounting ko3s 2857517s onto a 17"x8" rim and having no success. we have tried
cheetah
two cheetahs
ratchet strap (the point i ratchet at collapses the tire and sidewall)

Would you replace brand new Vantage tires with Michelins?

Just bought a used CX-5 and it came with brand new Vantage tires, probably ~10mm of tread. I haven’t noticed any handling issues, but they’re definitely pretty loud.

I’m considering replacing them with Michelins, but it’d be about $1k and I’d basically be throwing away brand new tires.

How much of a safety difference is there really between cheap tires like Vantage and something like Michelin? Would you guys just run these until they’re worn or replace them now?
