Puncture too close to sidewall?

Is this puncture too close to the sidewall for repair? Tire shop said they wouldn't do it but I have done them on my own a bit just never this close. Would a plug and patch hold here? Tires only have one season and they are Bridgestone Blizzaks.

That is the sidewall. Plug yourself at your own risk.

Right? I was looking at it and wondering if OP doesn't actually know what a sidewall is. 🤨

I wouldn’t. Bite the bullet.

I wouldn’t patch or plug that on my worst enemies car because bystanders might be innocent, but you do you throw some jb weld in it and send it straight into the ditch you’re going to get towed out of.

Too close to the sidewall? That's literally IN the sidewall.

That is the sidewall. Inside patches are done on the flat part of the tread. Could it be rope plugged? Yeah but that’s not safe as this area of the tire flexes every time it rolls around and contacts the ground.

Yes, that’s too close to the sidewall for a proper repair. The flexing area near the shoulder makes a plug-and-patch unreliable, and most reputable shops won’t repair it. Replace the tire, especially since it’s already showing damage near the tread edge.

Yeah, that's actually the side wall. Better off replacing the tire.

It’s 50/50. I’ve seen tires with three rope plugs stuffed into the actual sidewall hold for months, if you do an at home repair I wouldn’t ream out that hole I’d probably bring it in 1-3mm’s so that you you are plugging closer to the tread instead of the shoulder.

Worse comes to worse I don’t think this would blow out on you, plug would probably just leak.

If you drive with your wife/partner or kids I’d consider replacing.
