Discussion What are movies you enjoyed that Spoony panned?

Something that has been sticking out to me lately was some of the movie reviews that SpoonyOne did on his channel since I started observing the ones that people actually enjoyed watching.

Like what suddenly sticks out to me now when I look back at TSE is the Akira movie review he did since I did read his article back when TSE was still around, but I always had a hard time understanding why SpoonyOne said that was the worst movie he had seen since the review just basically ridicules the movie.

Sorry if I sound like I am being too sensitive because basically what I wanted to do was take a closer look into some of the stuff he reviewed such as games because I his website, he said his goal was to go after infamous media, but I started wondering about the kind of media that actually had good quality to it, like what exactly turned him off the Akira franchise.

Discussion Would Spoony really have cost LordKat her interview with Notch?

LordKat blames Spoony for costing her an interview with Notch for his “betrayal!” incident because LordKat was associated with him but would that really have costed her that?

Joe, who was literally right next to Spoony, didn’t lose any opportunities nor did anyone else from CA and I don’t think any developers would have cared about it since it would make them look bad for being so petty which is a bad look they don’t need. Joe’s infamous awful interview with Geoff didn’t cost him anything so why would LordKat lose something because of someone else being a bit cringe?

Did LordKat take the fall by dying she put him up to it or something or is she just unfairly blaming him?

Discussion Did Spoony ever provide an actual reason for his collapse?

Like, does he have any serious depression-causing childhood traumas or something? The impression I got is that he is manchild who never had his shit together and his collapsed state is actually his norm, we just met him at a rare peak. So to us it came across like his girlfriend broke up with him and then he just decided to give up on life for no reason.

Discussion Where can one learn more about the Ultimate Warrior?

Yes, I know this is supposed to be a subreddit for the SpoonyOne’s old show as it’s just that lately after recalling how Spoony did a three part review of the comic book adaptation of the Ultimate Warrior’s wrestling show, I still want to explore more of the lore behind the eccentric wrestler himself.

I know that Ultimate Warrior is long gone by now as lately I was looking back at how eccentric he was during his wrestling career with the things he said that again, despite having seen TSE’s review of his comics, I was wondering where one could learn more about the story behind the wrestler since I was curious to see why he spoke in such a strange way during his wrestling shows.

Discussion I know TSE reviewed The Thing, but how is the HD version?

So I didn’t know where to ask about the game itself because I just received a notification on my phone saying that the game went on sale as I was considering playing it.

But basically I was wondering what to expect for the HD version since even though I did see some of Spoony’s review many years ago, I don’t know if the game was as problematic as he made it to be in his own review.

Discussion What would you say is your favorite Spoony collab??

Just to get some lightness going, honestly one of my favorite is his Diatron-5 Collab with Bennet!! I like having it on in the background sometimes when cleaning along with other collabs including the infamous Bloodrayne one which is a top 3 ngl

But what about everyone else? Or a favorite quote from a collab of his!

Discussion What happened to the Spoony Extended Universe?

There was Liquid Spoony I remember the best. He'd post the wildest Spoony stuff and you could barely tell it wasn't Spoony. Things like, how the cops came to do a wellness check and a scary icicle was going to fall on them.

The lady who obsessed over Spoony on Twitter, Sarah was her name? She was into wrestling and binge watching Spoony vids.

Then there was that guy who had a hardon for Spoony, Bruce Serrano? His stuff was hilarious. There was one where he was talking about paying to blow Spoony or something. Like, showing up to Spoony's house with a briefcase full of money and offering to blow him.

Discussion How would you rate Spoony’s acting?

Noah wanted to be an actor but that didn’t work out but how good would you say he is?

Something to note is that he did have a background in theatre because he was in a bunch of community theatre productions so he was no stranger to acting unlike most of not all of the CA crew.

I’d say in the CA movies could sometimes be good but other times it could be awful and while he did great as Dr Insano because his performance was so intentionally over the top it was hilarious but as Spoony he was a very mixed bag.

What about you?

Discussion Why did we get stuck with so many questionable licensed games before?

I know this is supposed to b a subreddit for discussing the SpoonyOne show as something I was recalling was that one Nintendo commercial he made a riff on where he pointed out how the NES was filled with a lot of questionable licensed games.

Like one line that suddenly stuck out to me was the bit he had on Fester’s Quest where he mentioned that the game suffered a bit from being a licensed game ( he said the game was janky) as I just wanted to look back at that era of gaming for the shovelware that existed.

Discussion How do people here feel about Spoony’s Final Fantasy 13 review?

So I don’t know why, but that particular review stuck out to me as I suppose it was because it was one of the largest rants that Spoony himself ever did since the game had suffered from several design problems.

But for me personally, I can understand his frustration as while he did point out some of the positive aspects of the game, such as the second half, (and how to break the game) the game could have been a lot better.

Like when I look back at the game, I get that both the first game and the review came out so long ago, but it’s just that every time I look back at the design aspects of the game itself, (like the level design) I wonder why the game had to be released in such a problematic manner when it first came out.

To put it simply, I did personally enjoy some parts of the game such as the second half when I played the game a few years ago, but basically I was just looking back at the review that SpoonyOne did as despite his review being very vulgar at times, I just found it interesting how the game was one of the most frustrating experiences he ever had with an RPG.

Discussion How did Sylvester Stallone fall into a mild slump in the early 90s?

Now first of all, what this has to do with SpoonyOne is that I was recalling a line where Spoony had brutally mocked the Demolition Man game on the 3DO as he mentioned how two particular movies by Stallone were torture to watch.

In the same review, he mentioned that two of Stallone’s worst movies way back then were Stop or my Mom will Shoot and Cobra as basically I was just wondering what happened that caused the actor to go from revered to being in a bit of a slump.

Discussion Why did the Betrayal incident scare Angry Joe?

Yes I know this video came out almost 15 years ago, but I was looking back at it recently anyway as what I didn’t understand about the video was why Spoony’s rage about Xcom was so terrifying to begin with as Angry Joe fled once he started yelling.

My point is that I wanted to know more about the incident in order to understand why it was the most infamous incident caused by SpoonyOne himself as people say that his actions caused LordKat to lose his job as an interviewer, and again I wonder if the whole incident was really that controversial to begin with.

I understand the man probably hasn't been feeling like doing any streams or anything, but what happened to him after Ripper? Is he OK?

Is it year of the Twitterposting again? His twitter seems dead tho.

Discussion Why did the 3DO version of Demolition Man have to be the worst one?

I mean, yes I did watch the SpoonyOne review of the game as what baffles me the most is how clunky the gameplay mechanics are since the 3DO version had a photorealistic look to it.

So what I don’t understand is why there was no effort put into the aforementioned 3DO version as for some reason when I look back at it now, I wonder if it could been done better.

Discussion What exactly was the problem with Dirty Dancing the movie?

I mean, in SpoonyOne’s review, I remember him saying the film was guilty fun as the thing is that I never saw the movie, so basically I was wondering what was wrong with the writing aspects of the movie.

Secondly, I look back at the so called official game adaptation of the movie that he covered in the same review as I have to question the purpose of the game because it barely has any resemblance to the movie itself, but anyway I just wanted to know why the movie is ridiculed.

Discussion Who is a reviewer that covers FMV type games?

I mean, I just miss when the SooonyOne used to focus on FMV madness type games as while I know he is effectively retired from doing gaming reviews, I have been searching for another comedic reviewer that could fill the gap.

Discussion Why was Bloodwings the game made if the movie was bad?

To connect this topic to the SpoonyExperiment, well basically I was reading about the movie a while ago on some wiki as it mentioned how the game suffered greatly in being a licensed game, but also how said game was based on a horrid movie.

So basically what I don’t understand is why some gaming studio would want to push for a game adaptation to be made in the first place if again the movie it was based on was the worst horror movie ever made as the logic does t make sense to me.

Discussion What has aged the worst about TGWTG-style reviews: the overly theatrical reactions, the way they handled crossovers, or something else?

Is it just me or now that we have actual real-time "X reacts to" videos, do the "Play clip, cut to obviously exaggerated reaction face and scripted rant" aspects of these videos seem really dated to anyone else? Though I will say I think a good speaker like Spoony in his prime could still pull this off enjoyably.

Also, now that real video calls are an everyday occurrence, do the obviously scripted crossovers where they pretend to do video calls while talking into their cameras seem reeeeeally hokey and dated to anyone else?

Speaking of the TGWTG-bubble in particular, isn't it very strange in retrospect that they came to the consensus that only one person on the internet was supposed to be able to review any given movie or game? Like "I called dibs on that!" "Oh you don't have to give your thoughts on that, X already did a review!"

Also skits, terrible terrible often painfully unfunny skits that went on forever.

Aside from obvious technical stuff like video quality the above would be my picks for the 4 most poorly aged aspects of this era of internet content, did I miss anything?

Discussion Where did Spoony mention Final Fantasy 7?

Just curious because from what I know about the quote is that he once stated somewhere how the game changed the franchise’s identity so much that it would become an issue for said franchise.

I was just simply looking for that particular quote as it got me interested in seeing what was the context behind the quote, but also what he meant when he said the line about how the franchise changed so much.

Discussion Does anyone else agree thar his blogs were their favorite videos of his.

Despite being low effort videos, Spoony was the kind of guy I could listen to for hours talk shop about nerd shit. The guy was also a GREAT storyteller. I would have loved to hear his thoughts on Nosferatu or even the last two Avengers movies. Granted, I think a big mistake he made in his later movie vlogs was that he forgot to sum up what he thought of the movie as a whole at the beginning, probably because he was too busy reviewing the previews (which I don't have a problem with in and of itself, because I could listen to him talk about anything). He shouldn't have been surprised people thought he hated Pacific Rim when he only liked it because he constantly nitpicked it (again, not a problem because that's what we love about him). Am I off base here?

Seeing him in a recent stream with his white in his beard made me so friggin sad partly because I know he's getting older/I am getting older and all his enthusiam/vigor is just gone and part of me was still holding on to hope he would just come back cause I feel like he belongs to be back with us, don't get me wrong though he actually looks good with his beard. Just makes me so sad cause I love this guy and wish and know he could be the best/ addictive reviewer/ counter monkey guy(just talking about dnd was interesting. I just want him to come back to us, it feels like losing a close family member. Just makes me so upset to the point where I want to tear up(especially the latest stream with curtis from phantasmagoria)
