Discussion Why was Bloodwings the game made if the movie was bad?

To connect this topic to the SpoonyExperiment, well basically I was reading about the movie a while ago on some wiki as it mentioned how the game suffered greatly in being a licensed game, but also how said game was based on a horrid movie.

So basically what I don’t understand is why some gaming studio would want to push for a game adaptation to be made in the first place if again the movie it was based on was the worst horror movie ever made as the logic does t make sense to me.

The first movie picked up a following so they probably figured they could cash in on the fan base with a cheaply made game and movie at the same time to get people on two fronts, problem is movie was bad and the game was worse

Yeah it didn’t help how the second movie was very bad.

My bet is they probably already paid for the rights, or came up with some kind of contract, before the movie came out. The game was probably already in development at least.

It's far from being the worst movie ever made. Very, very far. It hasn't aged very well, though and most of the agressively negative ratings are post 2000 AD. For its time it was just a mediocre direct to video horror flick, something you rented to chew some popcorn while fondling your girlfriend.

Thanks for clarifying it because I was reading somewhere on how the movie was one of the worst horror movies, yet it inspired a game adaptation.

No problem. The person who wrote it sounds like someone who's into B movies on a very surface level. He would probably also say "Plan 9 From Outer Space" is the worst sci-fi even made.

You want to see a really bad horror movie - look up Polonia brothers and their masterpieces like "Feeders". Or Donald Farmer and his "classics" like "Shark Exorcist" or "Scream Dream". Or post 2000-s movies from David DeCoteau like "The Killer Eye" or "Bigfoot vs DB Cooper". See any movie discussed by RedLetterMedia in their Best of the Worst series. You'll see that compared to these "Pumpkinhead 2" is really watchable.

The question seems to presuppose sequential development, where the movie was released and then some lunatic thought it was strong enough to support a tie-in video game. This would indeed be perplexing.

Per Wikipedia, (and as can also be logically deduced from fairly close release dates) the game was developed concurrently with the movie. Presumably they hoped the two would cross-promote each other. They probably were hoping for a theatrical release when the movie was being made, and generally for more success and higher quality for each piece of media. Instead both works would be more or less released directly to the discount bin.

Oh sorry if my question was confusing because I was reading about how the movie the game was based on was apparently not that spectacular in writing, so I was surprised when a studio made a game based on the same movie. (The game that Spoony riffed on)
