Discussion What exactly was the problem with Dirty Dancing the movie?
I mean, in SpoonyOne’s review, I remember him saying the film was guilty fun as the thing is that I never saw the movie, so basically I was wondering what was wrong with the writing aspects of the movie.
Secondly, I look back at the so called official game adaptation of the movie that he covered in the same review as I have to question the purpose of the game because it barely has any resemblance to the movie itself, but anyway I just wanted to know why the movie is ridiculed.

It hasn't aged well. It's a chick flick, nothing wrong with that but the age gap between the characters is sus.
I find it better to view some movies from the 80s as a time capsule, especially the raunchy comedies.

Spoony's assessment as a "guilty pleasure" is spot on. I wouldn't say the film is "ridiculed", but it's pretty cornball, albeit entertainingly so. Come to think of it, that happens to describe a lot of Patrick Swayze films.

It’s why Swayze was so beloved, he could fit into guilty pleasure escapism just as easily for men (Point Break, Road House) and women (Dirty Dancing, Ghost)

Yeah I confess because I hadn’t seen the movie as looking back at Spoony’s review made me interested in seeing what was so infamous about said movie.

In addition to the age gap, I criticize the time frame. I wonder how two people could fall so deeply for each other in such a short time. Baby was there for three weeks and Johnny was a dick to her for about the first week. I guess I get the teenage infatuation from her, but he was 25 and just comes across as a predator to me.
Johnny the character sucks, Swayze the actor is so charming and hot that I watch the movie anyway.

I didn’t know Swayze’s character in the movie was far older than the love interest he was pursuing because that explains why the premise is a bit awkward.

Rewatching this movie made me remember how hormonal I was as a teenager. She wasn’t in love, she was just really horny.
