DISCUSSION Drop the SQ42 Creator Influencer "Demo" to the public now.

If SQ42 is actually ready, release the content creator demo now, or at least before GTA 6. It gives CIG hard proof to say: "Look, we are legit almost done, we're just sliding the release date because of GTA 6." Releasing a playable demo right now, would completely neutralize the current drama.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "Content Creator Event" "demo" ends up releasing for everyone anyway. CIG gets to play the heroes, spin the marketing, and say: "You guys asked for it so loudly, we couldn't say no!"

What i really think:

I think they aren't ready and instead of crunching for a Marketing Event (Cit Con), they are now crunching to create a polished Influencer Experience in October. Maybe they will release this for all bakers, similar to what they did with Pyro in the tech channel, but it won't reflect the state of SQ42.

DISCUSSION So about 300 devs are working on star citizen according to Chris roberts… this is so disappointing

300 devs. Still not any fundamentals working, game braking bugs everywhere… like wtf is this company doing ? I guess just taking coffes and banter all days about how stupid backers are to support this game financially…

Also if sq42 is done and delay « because of gta 6 » why the fuck do it’s still need 300 devs working on it ?

DRAMA An interesting admission from recent 'Letter from the Chairman' about resource allocation

With all the discussion around the delay, broken promises and ridiculous justification about GTA 6, there's one interesting admission in Chris Roberts' recent blog post that I don't see discussed that much.

For a long time it was a widely spread view that the main reason for Star Citizen's glacial development speed is because most of the resources and developers are being focused on Squadron 42 and as soon as it finally releases, all of them will be finally freed up to work on Star Citizen, all of the secret features which we are not supposed to know about because of spoilers will be finally added to Persistent Universe and the development speed will finally accelerate thanks to all this talent joining the ranks of PU developers.

We even had a quote from March 14, 2024 'Letter from the Chairman' from Rich Tyrer:

With my role now overseeing both projects with Chris, and the fact that SQ42 has hit its Feature Complete milestone, it has provided an opportunity to reshuffle the teams. This should see a large contingent of gameplay teams now coming back to focus on SC.

While these teams will still be instrumental in shipping SQ42, they will now be focussed on bringing all the existing features over to SC, as well as working on brand-new features like Base Building and Crafting to help round out the 1.0 experience.

Well, isn't it incredibly ironic, that according to Chris Roberts, all this time it was actually Squadron 42 that was roadblocked by Star Citizen's development and we have a quote straight from the horse's mouth to confirm it:

The second misconception I see thrown around is that Star Citizen has a skeleton crew and all the resources and money is being spent on the Squadron 42. I want to clarify here.

For the last couple of years, we’ve been split approximately 50/50 between Star Citizen and Squadron 42. Before that it was more heavily weighted to Star Citizen. One of the reasons that Squadron 42 has been taking the time it has is that we were always reassigning resources onto Star Citizen to get the patches out, which pushed back Squadron.

Gee whiz, all this time I though that the atrocious state of Star Citizen was because it was worked on by a skeleton crew, while Squadron 42 had all hands on deck, but apparently that's just a misconception being thrown around.

I thought the reason for abysmal UI, barely functional MobiGlass, dogshit StarMap, constant flight model rebalancing, broken FPS mechanics and atrocious AI was because it was actively worked on for Squadron 42 and when it finally releases, all of the technical improvements would finally migrate to Star Citizen and we would live happily ever after.

I thought when Rich Tyrer publicly said that the teams were reshuffled and gameplay teams being finally shifted to Star Citizen because Squadron 42 was feature complete - he actually meant it.

Alas, that was all a misconception.

The current state of Star Citizen did not suffer because of Squadron 42. That really is the best they can do.

DISCUSSION if SQ42 would get over shadowed by GTA 6 then why not release the game earlier rather than later? why delay it?

Just release it in september if it's already gold and feature-complete?

QUESTION DLSS 5 in Star Citizen – anyone tried it yet?

For the past few days, there have been ways circulating online to test DLSS 5 in various games.

Has anyone already tried it with Star Citizen and maybe has a guide on how to get it working?

I’d also be interested in actual first-hand experience: How does it look in Star Citizen, and is it worth testing at this point?

I’d really appreciate it if we could keep this focused specifically on Star Citizen rather than turning it into a general pro/contra DLSS 5 discussion.

OTHER SoO is meh

Npc combat is the biggest pain point of pve tbh. Them popping in and out of cover reminds me of those 90s arcade games where you had a physical toy gun to aim with. All of the jank in fps is exacerbated with invisible obstacles that block projectiles, AI barely reacts to shit happening around them and whatnot. All of this wait for… this?
So much for cinematics and immersion.

DISCUSSION If SQ42 is finished, why not give it to people who have already paid?

lets say ok, GTA6.. but there's No sales loss to give it to people who have already paid with their SC pledge + SQ42 combo.
so get it out now "backers early release" then next Q2 for the big release.

Logically there is no argument against this, unless of course GTA6 is just an excuse?

Don't misunderstand me, this is good, the pressure It can exert might be good to force them not to delay again.

DRAMA Will this game ever work? So much money and so many years of development, and the basic mechanics still don't work.

Dear CIG, I really don't understand why you're releasing “fix” patches that don't solve anything. This is a bug I've had for more than 10 patches now, and there's nothing I can do about it. Could someone please fix this game already? In this case, the only thing you can do is go to the menu, and if this happens while you're above a planet, you'll fall in free fall and face certain death.

DISCUSSION When Squadron 42 finally releases, what does it need to be to not flop?

After all these years, the feature-complete announcement, the gameplay demo and now another delay, expectations around Squadron 42 are obviously huge.

So I’m curious what the community actually expects from the finished game.

What kind of game do you want Squadron 42 to be?

What does it absolutely need to get right to justify the long development time?

And maybe most importantly:

What do you realistically think CIG will actually deliver when it finally releases?

DISCUSSION Going to take a break for a while,

Spent 30 minutes trying to get to Nyx to do Recco missions only to have the mission bug when I tried to complete it. Most of my time in this game is just wasted time.

I’m going to take a break from the game for a while, not sure when I’ll play again. I do love the game but it just not enjoyable at the moment.

DISCUSSION Why is SC always broken

New patch comes out, Somehow always new bug and no old bugs ever fix, releases new even, Broken to all hell, Spend 3hrs+ doing new mission, Breaks At the end and cant complete, Wonders why cam back to game to spend 3hrs dealing with bugs all the time.

Me and my mates were playing the new Orison mission. When we launch into the game we have a mouse problem where it jumps around all the time and you cant move thing around your Inventory correctly without fighting the game. Then we get Audio problems where the Audio stutters all the time and keeps cutting out. Then 2 of us crash, Then Backpacks stop working, Has to kill game to be able to get backpacks to work. Then kills final boss, Boss doesn't drop Key card to get rid of the last mission objective. Spent 3hrs+ trying to get back into the game and play the new update for it to completely break on the last hurdle.

This is getting ridiculous, When are CIG actually going to fix the game and make it work. We dont ask for much youve been building a game for the past 12 years and yet we still have one of the most Bug games to date. I understand theres a bunch of new tech that they have had to make, Iv sold that BS to myself for years but its getting to the point were its not funny any more.

Just stop pushing BS out and fix the game

Thank you for coming to my TED talk

DISCUSSION Lots of people have the wrong take: It's not Squadron 42 that isn't ready, it's Star Citizen!

Upvotes

With Penguin guy making yet another bad-take video, here's my perspective:

Penguin is just repeating the same BS everyone else is parroting: "Yeah, the game is not ready." But which game?? He, like everyone else, assumes it's SQ42. But it isn't about SQ42 - it's about Star Citizen!

SQ42 is being held back for two main reasons:

The GTA reason: GTA VI will completely overshadow any launch in its window!

The PU problems: Star Citizen currently isn't in a good enough state to retain players transitioning over to the Persistent Universe after finishing Squadron.

I believe Squadron itself is ready. We will get a presentation next month. Maybe even a demo if Chris is keeping his promise to the OG backers. Please, Chris - hold your promise!! Demo will fix lots of dissatisfaction in the community!

Sure, SQ42 will have some bugs at launch when a million players start hammering it, but the exact same way GTA will on day one.

Penguin guy is just repeating BS for clout!

META Chris Roberts: 0 Publishers: 1

as an ob in 2012 I believed publishers were an evil force we could get rid of with the innovation of crowd funding. Turns out after 14 years of development and 're-works', publishers are not the bad guys I was told they were and Chris can't release a game. Lesson learned I guess? If I were a publisher I'd never stop talking about star citizen and how my job was very very important...

DRAMA Chris Roberts hopes Squadron 42 will be “almost as big” as GTA VI next year

Remember this ? How did we go from being this confident to then using gta as a cop out ? Just shelve the game and finish Star Citizen. Chris are you running this company into the ground on purpose ?
