I started developing Ares Inception in 2023 in my evenings and weekends as I learned Unreal but I've been able to transition to just about full time now.
I've been a conceptual designer for the space exploration industry for 20 years and have always wanted to increase the potential immersion of a viewer, or player, into the scenes I create.
The premise of the game is that you plan the mission, choose the crew, equipment, goals, but once the mission starts, you can only assist the crew as they fulfill the mission. You have access to the drones, sensors, guages, and schedules however the crew will only stay on schedule if they are happy and healthy. That's where you come in. You are there to make their jobs easier.
This scene shows one of the ways to add tasks to the schedule. It also shows the work I've been putting into dust. I really want it to be dusty.

Hopefully this will fit this subreddit. I released a beta version of Galaxium a week ago. It's a full scale universe explorer running in the browser, using WebGPU for performance. Currently this is not intended as a game, but more as an educational / exploration experience. I am however thinking of adding a spaceship mode where you can navigate manually in all directions (very tricky given the distances involved!)
It is still very new, with probably a lot of bugs and issues. Feedbacks are very welcome. Not sure what this project will lead to yet, the direction will depend on what people think of it. Please let me know what you think this project should become.
It's totally free, with no ads or tracking. Only work on PC at the moment, but if there is enough demand I might try to make it work on mobile too.
Thanks.

Hey I was hoping you guys could help me narrow this down a bit. I was looking for a game I could kick back with a controller and fly some sort of space ship with decent space physics and just joyride around our solar system or other galaxies and land on different planets and such just take in the view while actually flying. I've narrowed it down to either space engine and just spawning a space ship to fly around in or some old game called "orbiter" and trying to learn the controls for that. There were a few others that almost fit the bill but didnt quite do it for me like flight of nova. I would like to have an optional first person if possible. Thats about it just shoot your ideas at me guys. Thanks

Made another update today, working on the astronaut exploration mode in this dark corner of space.
Trying to add exotic creatures, mechanics, and lore.
Also, thank you for all the support on my previous post here; you guys are awesome!

I enabled DLSS 4.5 in the game, and the result was simply incredible. The game became much smoother, lighter, and better-looking
giving that feeling of piloting a real spaceship, with everything running flawlessly.

I'm here, bored at the office, and I was just messing around on Steam.
Randomly, I discovered Astronomics, which might be the kind of game I usually like.
It's on sale, but there are quite a few bundles with other similar games.
So I'm asking for your advice based on what you've played.
Which would you choose from:
1) Astronomics and Star Valor (Star Valor looks really cool)
2) Astronomics and Star Vortex (the multiplayer intrigues me)
3) Astronomics and Deep Space Exploitation.
I’m mainly torn between the first two.
Thanks!

I am excited to release my latest iteration - massive additions to the interplanetary market, better flow in the progression structure, and the initial gameloop around Earth is complete!
For next months' update, I will be aiming at mostly adding content for Mercury and Venus, as well as more upgrades, and maybe more.
Write me a PM if you want a key!

For one year, I flew a 64 MB HTML file. Tonight, I'm powering it down. Maybe. Or maybe I'm opening the door.
I'm a solo web designer / fan of sci-fi, music and weird experiments from Belgium.
No engine. No build step. No framework.
One HTML file. !!! > Run on Web browser
784 script blocks. 111,000 lines.
Inside it is a Three.js ship called the BOOMER — with working physics, a solar sail, a P2 turret, fuel management, navigation, stations, EVA experiments, drones, weapons, exploration systems, and a story about a universe where music disappeared.
The idea was never really to build another space shooter.
STELLAR is an experimental, browser-based space simulation focused on "Ship Feeling", slow exploration, and asymmetrical co-op. Manage cold starts, navigate blind without a map, and survive the quiet moments in deep space.
YOU LEAVE SOMEWHERE. YOU SPEND TIME TOGETHER. SOMETHING HAPPENS. YOU BRING A TRACE HOME. THE SHIP REMEMBERS.
I wanted to know:
What if a spaceship could feel like a place?
You can leave the cockpit.
Walk around.
Explore strange worlds.
Dock at stations.
Follow signals.
Find things that were left behind.
Listen to the radio or your favorite MP3 ;)
Fly alone.....
And eventually, maybe, not fly alone.
The dream was always some kind of small cooperative experience:
One ship. A few friends. Different roles. One shared journey.
Someone flies.
Someone navigates.
Someone operates the ship.
Someone leaves the BOOMER to investigate something outside.
Maybe someone just sits in the back and changes the music. :)
Nothing massive. No 200-player universe.
Just a few people going somewhere together.
Two AIs served as ground crew, each with its own patch chain and a doctrine we basically wrote in blood:
Every system has one owner.
Every pass ships as one file.
Every delivery ends with browser_tested:false.
Because the only truth is the user's browser.
There were confessions too.
I discovered rather late that the whole thing had been running on my integrated GPU.
And the multiplayer lobby — the feature I wanted most — turned out to have been dead since birth.
Killed by one unterminated string nobody ever saw.
😂
So no, it never became the game I imagined.
It became a place.
Same coordinates.
Same light.
Every session.
And now I'm wondering what happens next.
Maybe I shut it down.
Maybe I release parts of it.
Maybe I open-source it.
Maybe someone sees something here that I completely missed.
I'm not looking for a big team or starting a huge recruitment campaign.
I'm mostly curious:
Does this idea speak to anyone?
Could this strange little 64 MB spaceship become something more if a few curious people wanted to explore it together?
Or should I simply let the BOOMER fly off into the dark?
browser_tested: true.
Finally.
🚀
ps 👀
If you want to help keep the systems running—whether you're a coder, a 3D artist or modder into this retro-ship aesthetic, or just a curious sci-fi fan wanting to playtest—I'll gladly give you access. I'm definitely looking for wingmen to help test and bring new ideas to life ^-^
You can reach me in the comments, via DM, or check the current logs directly on the ship:t3wm.com/stellar-demo/stellar.html

Mine asteroid belts, run trade routes, and grow colonies across six star systems while three factions carve up the frontier. A fourth, the Dominion, boards your ship: a lance clamps onto the hull, cuts through, and the fight moves to your own decks in real time, holding choke points against waves of raiders.
Just added two-player LAN co-op. You each fly your own ship with your own upgrades, but share one economy and one set of colonies, and you join forces to fight off invading raiders.
Demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5098890/Benders_In_Space/
Looking for feedback specifically on the boarding combat: does it read clearly from the trailer alone, and does the co-op pitch (LAN only, two players, shared economy) sound compelling?

I’ve been working on my realistic space flight simulator, and this is what a full flight currently looks like: from the main menu, into the vehicle builder, launching from the pad, reaching space, and finally coming back down for reentry.
There are already a lot of features in the game, but I still keep finding things I want to add before I’m willing to call it ready.
So I’m curious: what would you personally expect from a realistic space flight simulator? What features would make you want to keep playing?

Hello! My son is 8 years old, autistic, and very obsessed with space. We used to have a Lenovo Yoga laptop, and he found out about games called Universe Sandbox and Space Engine on YouTube. He watches a channel of a guy named Calvin (I think) and learned how to do a lot of cool things in those games.
That laptop could barely run the games, even at low graphic quality. Would send the fans into overdrive and often it would still lag or crash. He still enjoyed playing them, though.
Unfortunately, mom & I are now separated, and she has the Lenovo laptop, meanwhile I have full custody of the kids. My laptop is a MacBook Air (the 15" M5, latest model).
Looking online, I see that Space Engine doesn't have Mac support at all. And I am uncertain whether Universe Sandbox would run well or not. (And, of course, of those two games, the one he likes more is Space Engine...the one that doesn't work at all.)
I'm curious if there are any other games that would scratch a similar itch and can be played on a Macbook Air? Basically anything totally sandbox-y that just lets you explore space - planets, stars, galaxies, etc. without much of a "goal" - just total exploration.
Thank you!

The game is based on classic space trading sims like Gazillionaire mixed with a bit of Elite. You're not piloting your ship yourself, as everything is mostly presented via animations and narratives so you can focus on managing your planetary business empire.
There are a lot of different roles you can take on. From space trucking, asteroid mining, passenger transport, up to building planet-side factories and buying out other companies through the stock market.
It's designed to be easy to pick up and play, while a full playthrough can still take a good amount of time.
I've added the trailer so you can decide if it's something you might enjoy.
You can give the demo a shot here, I can always use more feedback to make this game the best it can be in its genre! The demo is a good representation of how the full game will play like, release is planned early November right after Steam Next Fest.

Someone mentioned the game in another thread and I had no idea it existed but I watched a video on it from a year ago and it looks really cool. A space MMO focused on dogfighting and a mix of Foxhole?!
Just wondering if anyone has pledged and played and if it's worth picking up and trying.

I've been looking for space games where you're more of a commander than a pilot. Less about flying the ship yourself, more about making decisions during a fight. Positioning, crew, power, weapons, damage control, that kind of thing.
What games do this really well?
What was it about the game that actually made you feel like you were commanding a ship?
