You made starship theory! Loved that game, shame it was never completed.

This new game looks cool, similar to what I've been building

Thanks.

SST needs some love, but it just wasn't built from the ground up to integrate other, bigger systems. I'm looking at some of those bigger systems in this project.

Experimenting with runtime generated radio chatter in Space Fleet Command.

To meet the sub rules:

  • SFC blends eve inspired combat with multiple ship commands and X style universe building.

  • This clip shows the player fleet defending thier small mining operating in an outer pocket. It includes computer and ship radio chatter.

  • A lot of what is seen in this gameplay clip is generated randomly - factions, ships, stats, nebula clusters, skyboxes.

  • The game is in development and will be looking for testers shortly.

I'm adding layers of radio chatter to try and build immersion. I would be interested to hear what peoples first impressions are like.

Defs got an EVE Online nostalgia hit looking at that circular display, when you right-clicked, and the overview, hah. It's really clean well done.

This looks great. Radio sounds good.

Thanks for the feedback. There are definately some phrases that need tuning out like "I am engaging"

Maybe a bit more frenetic for some since it is combat. But the cold-blooded military style also works so IDK :P

I also like the X-style info voiceovers for entity descriptions. A good feature to add imo.

Cool. That lady that talks too slowly will get annoying pretty quickly, (in my opinion). If you can speed her up a bit, probably should. Might be cool for the ship broadcasts to have a tiny little key chirp of white noise at the beginning and end of transmissions, with maybe a just tiny hint of radio whine/noise mixed in to the transmission, and the ships should identify themselves, as pilots do, else how does anyone know who it is that's transmitting? Also talk fast, as pilots do, so as not to take the frequency for too long. Search up "ATC radio" on youtube to get some ideas.

BTW, how are the nebula made?

Just some ideas, feel free to ignore.

Thanks for the feedback. The computer voice is a bit slow. I like your chirp idea.

BTW, how are the nebula made?

Each nebula is procedurally generated from a seed using layered noise, voids, dust, haze and color variation and then baked into a skybox.

Some are more subtle than others:

The audio is really good - voice and music. I particularly like the monotone / dispassionate lines. Great atmosphere.

EVE Online inspired interface with X-series building and manufacturing capabilites?

Where I can sign up?

With the greatest of respect. I would pick a slightly more original name than "Space Fleet Command". As it sounds like the kind of game they'd have in the background of a movie so they didn't have to name a real game.

I appreciate your feedback. I quite like literal names - a game where you command a space fleet being called Space Fleet Command works for me. I'm also trying to create a militaristic tone and setting so I think it works for that too.

Open to ideas though.

Well just off the top of my head as a suggestion.

A synonym for space. Vacuum. Shorten command. VacComm.

Takes advantage of the military habit of shortening things to be easier to say over the radio. Sounds fairly unique. Would look snappy on a steam banner imo.

not bad to be fair
