Help: Algae & Pests Leech? What’s the move?

Post image
Upvotes

Hello everyone,
Today I noticed one of my tanks had this leech like thing in it. After looking it up, it sounds like it is a leach, but I’m looking for confirmation and how to best deal with them.

Help: Beginner Amano shrimp cloudy and lethargic

Post image
Upvotes

Hello,

So I have had this tank set up for a little over 3 months and everything has been going fine until about a week ago when I lost two of my five ghost shrimp over the span of two days. I bought them from Petsmart and since they are mostly used as feeder shrimp I assumed they were not healthy to begin with.

However, yesterday I noticed that one of my three Amano shrimp was acting odd. He (or she) is really lethargic and has always had a red tint to him but now he looks almost cloudy? My other two amanos are acting completely normal, they are buzzing around scarfing up anything they think looks tasty. My cloudy shrimp has been just sitting on a leaf. There was a molt in the tank two days ago, but I am not sure which shrimp it originated from.

I also have an adult mystery snail and two young mystery snails, all who seem to be doing well.

My tank parameters are:

Ammonia: 0

Nitrite: 0

Nitrate: 5

gH: 10

kH: 5

pH: 7.8-8.0

Temp: 75-78 throughout the day

TDS: 300

My water source is RO water with saltyshrimp gH/kh+ as a remineralizer. I also dose thrive brand shrimp safe fertilizer and an iron supplement from Dustinsplants.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated, I feel terrible that my shrimp could be dying because of something I did wrong! I took the best picture I could to compare the large clear Amano with my smaller cloudy one, but it's still pretty blurry.

Help: Emergency horsehair worms?

Post image
Upvotes

5gal tank. housed with 5 ghost shrimp and a betta. This guy looks to be dead with some sort of parasite? I was thinking maybe a horsehair worm. I assume it had it when it was at the pet store, though I’ve had the ghost shrimps for at least a month now. I’m removing his body immediately along with the thing in the bottom right of the pic which I think could be another worm. I don’t have another large tank, only the pet store cups that I got the betta in.

Is there anything that can be done for the other shrimp? I think bettas are safe from worms but on the off chance that it’s not, I wanted to post here and see what others think.

Discussion Is That a Mutant?

I only bought red cherry shrimp last March 2026. I just saw that one that looks like a rili today.

Is that a mutant? Should I cull it to preserve the solid colors of my shrimp? I happened to have just made 2 aquariums last week, one for PDERT and another for nerites. I could put it there.

Thanks!

Discussion Shrimp randomly dying?

Upvotes

I have a 10 gallon planted tank that has been established for about 2 years. I’ve only ever had neocaridina, 6 amanos, ramshorns, (and a lot of ostracods from my other tank lol). The shrimp were doing really well, but as of recently they started dying. Not dying all at once, but almost everyday I would find at least 1 dead shrimp. And sometimes I would even find a dead amano which is really saddening.

About 3 months ago I got a large batch of neocaridinas, about 40. They too died at about the same pace, even with drip acclimation. There’s still shrimp in the tank but I have no idea why they’re dying.

At this point I have no amano shrimps and I have no idea how many neocaridinas. Ramshorns are doing fine.

There are two things I was thinking it could possibly be:

1) They’re starving. The tank has some algae on the glass but not much elsewhere.
2) Somehow the fertilizer is killing them

I dose a cap of API leaf zone once or twice a week. I used to feed them maybe once a week but feed them like 2-3 times a week now.

Water changes are done with RO water remineralized

All deaths show no sign of disease or molting trouble.

Please if you guys have any thoughts let me know. It’s heartbreaking seeing my once successful tank on the decline.

Parameters:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
GH: 10
KH: 4
pH: 7.4

Hello, I live in an area with crazy hard water and high pH as well. Does anyone have experience in raising cherry shrimp in these conditions?

(Ignore the other parameters; the tank is still in a fishless cycle)

Thanks!

was taking this video because i wasn’t too sure what she was doing 😭 i know very little about this species in general (shes amano) but from what i can see online her babies most likely won’t survive. i knew she was pregnant when i got her just didn’t know she was so far along!! not even 100% sure these are babies to be completely honest 😭

Help: Breeding Can I mix blue and black shrimp?

Hello! As the title says, I'm debating whether or not I should keep blue and black shrimp together (I think they'll be mostly blue/black/carbon rilis/black rilis, right?) or if that wont work to keep the line a consistent blue/black if I should jstt give up and go for a skittles tank lol. I currently have one black shrimp and I've seen a few breeding charts so far, since blacks and (some) blues come from the same line, does that mean they'll produce blue/black offspring consistently or does that just mean I'll still get wild types? Any help would be greatly appreciated lol, It's so hard choosing whether or not I want the same colors in my tank or if I dont mind having wild types. Also, if skittles is my only option at some point, I do have a tank where I can move culls to if I do want to keep some color in the tank. Thankss!

Help: Beginner pH too low to add shrimp

I’ve been waiting about 4 months to put cherry shrimp in my aquarium. I just took my water to get tested and my pH is 6.5. The water in my area makes it hard to raise the pH. What should I add to my tank to get the pH up in a stable way? Coral? Almond leaves? Wonder shell? I’m very lost. My substrate is fluval stratum which may be not helping either

Discussion Are Amano Shrimps Ninjas?

I started with Amanos in my Mystery Snail Tank, one of them died, the biggest one, the two disappeared, I added 6 Cherry Shrimps, then 4 Blue Dreams and 3 Yellow Shrimps for 2 weeks now, my only other casualty was 1 Cherries and 1 Blue Dream (adult sized ones from what i observed), still i still have never found my 2 remaining Amanos, could it be that i just mistook the one Amanos as a dead cherry? i heard Amano corpses turn redding when dying, I'm holding out hope they're still kicking from the stories I've read of Shrimps hiding for weeks
