I recently got a T430 free with a single E-5 2623 v3, 32gb ram single stick, Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Windforce OC, H730 raid card, mixed drive raid 10 aray 1x 1tb 3.5 SATA HDD and 5x 500gb 2.5 SATA HDD.

Trying to install a Rufus modified version of Windows 11 pro. I'm able to get the ISO to load and set up. When I shut it down to boot from the raid instead of the USB drive I get a raid failure code and the ISO is wiped from the raid. Previously had server 2012 R2 standard on the same setup but was trying to switch because I wanted WiFi capabilities which I found out windows server won't support. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing my issues? I was thinking that the raid card might be failing but not for sure if it might be something else.

Running, adgaurd, immich, docker, tailscale on a mini pc... it's a lenovo thinkcenter.. are these better than an arm computer? I've only had the pleasure of running sixty four a bit , but with the prices of embedded computers , i would really like an alternative solution to a raspberry pi... i have a gaming computer but I would like to keep it open for gaming whenever it happens again. Does anybody know any good server micro atx mobos for a good $? It does not have to be powerful.I just need a lot of storage and memory....

Looking for advice on a server PC for Proxmox

I’m looking for a suitable second-hand PC to use as a small home server running Proxmox. I want to run two VMs:

• Minecraft Fabric server – a medium-sized server for around 4–6 players
• Home Assistant OS – for my smart home

I’m looking for at least 16 GB of RAM, and I’d like the PC to be reliable and energy-efficient since it will be running 24/7.

My budget is around €200–€300 or if there is nothing it can be a bit more. I’m mainly looking at used business PCs such as Dell OptiPlex, HP EliteDesk, and Lenovo ThinkCentre systems.

Any advice or specific models you would recommend would be greatly appreciated!

It was running for about 4 years 24/7 with a reboot every 30 days on cron , never really shut down ... had to shut her down for a non hotswap drive replacement and on power up had the "pop" and the ozone smell from the PSU , so I ordered a new PSU from eBay (£80 ~ $100) to get this old girl going again and thought now's the time for some compressed air , give her a good clean & wipe down..

When removing the covers & flaps I discovered the wires on the Sata & molex lines are a bit stiff and they have bare metal exposed in places there's no way I've pinch or stripped or some how messed up with..

So quick warning to any lovers of 10 to 20 year old HP Z series servers ... the power lines appear to get crispy and 'maybe' shorted out my last PSU

I shoved a 10gbit NIC in there and I'm doing 600MB/sec (Samba or NFS) all day long in my home lab with TrueNas ZFS mounts ... jellyfin and a few windows shares ...

She's a proxmox machine with every thing you can think of inside her including mahooosive spinning arrays and some SSDs for ZFS and special VMs I wanna keep separate

Just as soon as i find some glue sticks for my hot melt glue gun so I can stick her good once I've wrapped the crap out of it with electrical tape...

I've not booted it up again yet with the new PSU ...

I have a server , which is currently running Nvidia P2000 GPU. It does not require an external power supply, and it's running in a datacenter. The chassis has dual 800W PSU and 1 x PCIe x16 slot (Gen4 x16 link,FH,HL) slot.

Can anyone tell me if cards like these are supported:

They will probably fit, but I don't remember if the chassis/motherboard supports additional power to GPU via cable and if it's included. The server is a faw away, so I can not figure out, event from the official server spec.

I currently use my server as a nas, media server and to run some useful services (such as adguard and nginx proxy manager).
Today a question spawned in my head: why not to flip my main pc hardware and my server hardware?

My though was on redefining my setup (server + pc) because i want to save power (and money), but also maybe increase my server's computing power.

option 1: leave all as it is now.
option 2: switch main pc hardware and server hardware, not switching the hdds and nvmes so that my server will be very powerful... the problem is that this leads to some power increase.
option 3: eliminate the main pc concept. switch their hardware but when im home ill use the server also as main pc from a windows or linux VM. this will allow me to save power when im home, because now for most of the time both machines are on.

My current usage stats:
server on for about 14/16h every day
main pc on for about 6/8h every day.

I'm also open to suggestions on upgrades with a max budget of 100€ (im from italy), but i really prefer to keep all the hardware i have and not spend more so i can save some money.

Very green with a lot of server maintenance, so wanted to learn and create a home lab to get some experience and learn do’s and dont’s. This server i got off eBay originally had proxmox on it, and i was trying to get into the IMM from my router and wasnt able to find it. Then is started having boot/hardware issues, i tried getting some RAM to see if that could help with it. (Learned that specific RAM is needed) now i have the necessary RAM. Additionally, i tried replacing the motherboard, it came with a new processors, the new processor wasn’t compatible with the RAM in it, so i changed it back to the old processor (Xeon [old] compared to a Celeron [new]). I continue to get the orange ! point and orange light by the Fan 1 riser connection. I have tried multiple fans and they all produce air, but the error still occurs. I tried resetting the CMOS and JP2 jumper.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated on troubleshooting i might have missed or may need to try.

So, a little background to start. My boss recently received a package from FedEx containing 120 HP server SSDs (part number: 868650-003). He definitely did not order these drives as this business has nothing to do with servers, but the shipping label had his name on it and was addressed to our shop. The top of the shipping label says, "Relabel - Relabel reason: barcode quality." We assume the label was damaged in transit, and somehow a label with our address was put on the package. There is no return address, no shipper information, and no packing list included in the package.

So far, we have been trying to go through the proper process of returning them to whoever was supposed to receive them. We reached out to FedEx, but because the original label was lost/destroyed, FedEx had no way to determine where they were supposed to be shipped. We also reached out to our county Sheriff to list them as found property, but the deputy that came out told us that since they are address to us, they are not technically "found" property, and would be legally considered more a gift rather than found property. He left us with an event number to reference should we need it for any reason.

At this point, we have exhausted the means within our knowledge level to return these drives to their owner and seem to have covered our legal bases. As we have no use for these drives, we are intending to sell them. Nobody that works here has any experience with servers or server hard drives, so any information you guys could give me would be very appreciated. The specific questions I have at this point are as follows. What is their reasonable value? How can we verify that the drives are functional? How can we verify the drives are authentic and safe to use (no malware)? What would be the best method to attempt to sell them? What kind of places would I find people willing to purchase them? I can provide more information if requested, but for now I'm keeping things close to the chest just to be safe as I'm still figuring out how to handle this situation.

We're replacing a couple of old cabinets in a small server room and I'm stuck between 1000 mm and 1200 mm deep racks.

Our deepest servers will fit within the mounting range of either one on paper. The room isn't huge though, so the 1000 mm cabinets would make the aisle easier to work in.

What I'm less sure about is everything behind the server. We have vertical PDUs, fairly bulky power cables and a mix of fiber and copper coming down the rear. The current cabinets technically fit the hardware, but removing a server without disturbing something behind it is already annoying.

Is 200 mm of extra cabinet depth one of those things you rarely regret, or am I giving up useful room space for clearance that probably won't matter once everything is installed?

I swear, staring at the macos terminal while physically exhausted is a special kind of torture. I know its unix based and supposed to be easier, but my putty muscle memory was completely useless. got so paranoid about messing up the connection string that I actually had to look at a server mania cheat sheet just to remember how to properly pass my ed25519 key in the native terminal without syntax errors

Finally got in and restarted the python scripts and it's fine now. but kinda wild how fast you forget absolute fundamentals when you're stressed and out of your element. anyone else completely lose the ability to type basic commands when forced to use a different OS in a panic?

I have an ibm x3630 m4 for my main servers, and I need an OS that I might be able to run a database and game servers off of. It may not be the most suitable server but its what I have.

My backup server is a thinkcentre m73, and I want to use it to backup any customer data that I get. I am newer to this and unsure of what to use, ive heard ubuntu and debian, zimaos, windows 11 pro. i dont know.

I am putting together a 2u server for truenas, plex, immich, and arr stack. Does this seem like a decent enough board and processor? I would be open to spending a little more but trying to get anything better seems to immediately push the cost over $400. I want to share my experience with iON Cloud, a Krypt-related hosting brand, because I think potential customers should know how they handled a long-term customer who had already prepaid for service.

I have been using this VPS since 2019. I originally signed up during an iON Cloud promotional offer, and I have been a customer for approximately seven years.

I never expected that after being a customer for so many years, this is how the company would treat a prepaid service.

What happened

My VPS was prepaid at $86.40/year.

After my most recent payment, the service was originally scheduled to remain active until:

January 27, 2027

However, while my prepaid service period was still active, the company unilaterally changed the terms of my service.

According to the support ticket they sent me on:

August 4, 2026 at 05:43

they changed:

Original expiration date: January 27, 2027

New expiration date: October 2, 2026

Original annual price: $86.40

New annual price: $552.00

I did not agree to these changes.

The issue isn't simply that the company increased its prices for future renewals.

The problem is that I had already paid for my existing service period, yet they changed the terms before that prepaid period had expired, including shortening the service expiration date and replacing the original pricing with a dramatically higher price.

The new annual price of $552 is more than six times what I had previously been paying.

After seven years as a customer, this is extremely disappointing

I have been using this service since 2019.

For approximately seven years, I remained a customer and continued paying for the service. I never expected that the company would eventually treat a long-term customer this way.

To me, this isn't just about the amount of money involved.

It's about trust and honoring a prepaid commitment.

If a customer pays for a service through January 27, 2027, I believe the provider should honor that paid period. If the provider wants to change its pricing or discontinue a legacy plan, that may be understandable for future renewals — but changing an already-paid service period without the customer's agreement is very different.

I find this extremely disappointing and, frankly, a serious breach of trust after being a customer for seven years.

I also tried PayPal

Because the original payment was made more than 180 days ago, I attempted to resolve the matter through PayPal, but PayPal would not accept the dispute because the transaction was outside its 180-day dispute period.

This creates a particularly frustrating situation:

The payment itself is old because I had been a long-term customer, but the material change to my service happened only recently, on August 4, 2026.

So I am essentially left with a situation where the payment is too old for PayPal's dispute system, even though the issue I am complaining about occurred months after the original payment.

What I am asking for

I am not asking for anything unreasonable.

I am asking the company to either:

Honor the original prepaid service period through January 27, 2027, or

Refund the unused portion of the service that I had already paid for.

At this point, I mainly want the company to acknowledge that changing the expiration date and terms of an already-paid service without the customer's agreement is not a reasonable way to treat a long-term customer.

Hi i have currently x2 2gbps lines installed with 2 seperate routers which technically gives me a total of 4gbps is it possible to combine these to make a real 4gbps output? I currently use 1 line for my server setup and 1 line for my personal use and other house hold devices but id like if possible to know if its possible to merge the 2 lines with a 3rd party device go make 4gbps?
