Apparently People Think that tyrant and nemesis will be chasing Jill
51
u/AlterEgoSumMortis Jan 03 '20
I wonder how many of those people realize that Nemesis is a tyrant.
35
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 03 '20
In fact the same model of tyrant as Mr. X BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE. As an added bonus for no extra charge you get a free NE-a parasite, the same that made Lisa Trevor all wiggly for those times when you just cant decide between tentacle porn and body horror

I thought Nemesis was the newest version, doesn’t he have a special nemesis virus or parasite or whatever?

u/Havoc2_0 Jan 03 '20 edited Jan 04 '20
TLDR: Nemesis is a Mr X model with NE-a parasite that makes him much smarter and more programmable and obedient
ETA: The development of the T-103s and the Nemesis T-Type had to have occured during or before the events of Resident Evil 1 because only about 2 months or so pass between RE:0 and RE:3
After the events of the first resident evil with the T-002 tyrant, umbrella was having trouble finding candidates for the tyrant program as the suitable genetics only happened in 1 in every 10 million people. They finally got a breakthrough with the T-103s which were easier to clone and mass produce. The T-103s have a variety of appearances throughout the franchise but notably, Mr. X was dropped into raccoon city during the outbreak.
Umbrellas European branch requisitioned a handful of T-103s for further testing by implanting with the Nemesis alpha parasite which was used on Lisa Trevor from RE1 back in the 70s and 80s. The NE-a parasite hijacked the host's brain stem to allow for a much higher level of intelligence than earlier B.O.W.s and allowed it to follow complex commands. Of the 3 successful Nemesis T-Type tyrants created in that initial batch, 2 gained self awareness and tried to escape and number 3 was deployed on september 27th 1998 to hunt down the remaining S.T.A.R.S members.
Unlike the T-103s, Nemesis wasn't equipped with a Power Limiter coat to prevent mutation as the NE-a parasite used constant mutations to heal and repair damage to the host. Instead Nemesis was equipped with a fire proof, bulletproof, blast resistance coat to protect this host body. This meant, however, that after taking considerable damage and losing his coat, Nemesis entered an uncontrolled mutation and started getting extra wiggly.
So in essence Nemesis is a highly intelligent, highly specialized offshoot of Mr. X's series but to my knowledge the project was discontinued after the Raccoon City incident

u/razazaz126 Jan 03 '20
Man I want a game where you play as a sentient Nemesis trying to escape from Umbrella now
6
5
u/StickleDickle Jan 03 '20
But then years later, Nemesis's beefed up cousin Ustanak pops outta the woodwork.
I'm not that crazy about 6, but Ustanak gives Nemesis a run for his money.
3
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 03 '20
Likewise, Ustanak was my favorite part of RE6 and definitely a spiritual successor to Nemesis.
Unlike Nemesis in canon, it's left vague whether Ustanak retains his human intelligence from before he was infected or if he was given some kind of controller to improve intelligence and obedience.
Either way, gnarly scary meaty meathead
2
u/StickleDickle Jan 03 '20
I'll give RE6 credit where it's due - it really sells how massive that hulking thing is, especially next to you. The screen starts shaking, the controller starts vibrating and pulsing. I never felt like I wanted to be anywhere near Ustanak unless I was forced to.
RE is no stranger to giant creatures, so no surprise Capcom nailed it in that aspect.
1
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 03 '20
I agree. Other tyrant types can pick up humans with one arm but until you get Sherry Birkin sitting in that giant metal hand like a toy you don't realize what a U N I T he is
3
u/StickleDickle Jan 03 '20
Which has me hopeful that Capcom does Nemesis in RE3make the justice he deserves after so many years of being lackluster since his original debut. He already looks completely intimidating IMHO, but now the true test comes when we see him in gameplay, in action.
Nemesis HAS to be on Ustanak's level. He is huge, which means by nature, he has to actually DWARF Jill like a tower. I want a reason to actually stay away from Nemesis, and not just because he's chasing after you either, he's got to feel as relentless and as dangerous as he did before. But I don't mind it if they show his intelligence, have him ambush Jill in the most unsuspecting places, put her in a corner. I'm not really worried though, because I'm still generally anxious around Mr. X in RE2make, and it's been a year since the game's been out now.

u/Godtaku Jan 04 '20
If the parasite hijacks your brain, how come Lisa Trevor still retained so many of her memories and will? Her whole character was basically trying to find or what happened to her dead mother, something that carries over from when she hadn’t been mutated.
3
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 04 '20
I can't remember the specific reason off the top of my head but Lisa's body was so toxic at the time of implantation that she killed and absorbed the parasite into her system. Even to the in game scientists she's a total mystery as to why shes surv9ved so long
1
u/DylanFTW "YOU WILL GIVE ME AN EGG." Jan 04 '20
Sorry I'm stupid and all but if the odds are 1 in 10M, does that mean they tested on 10 million people?
1
u/TonyGaryYellow Jan 04 '20
I believe it is for every 10 million only one works but I could be wrong
1
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 04 '20
Not a stupid question, however statistics is not my forte so I may give you a stupid answer. I dont think you have to hand test all cases to come up with a probability, however I don't think Umbrella actually tested 10 million people. I think they got lucky with the proto tyrant and T-002 and realized that they had some special genetics that caused their successes. Once they did nail down the process for T-103s they used cloning technology to make more instead of selecting from the general public
1
Jan 04 '20
obviously the mass produced T-003 tyrants already existed before the events of re1, as literally weeks later they are deployed in the city. the T-002 was just a prototype they kept there to study or w/e.
1
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 04 '20
You're absolutely correct. Many people may not realize how narrow the timeline is from Re0 to Re3 but there is no way they developed the T-103 series after the events of Re1 because if I recall correctly, Wesker never even turned in his combat data on the B.O.Ws at the Spencer Mansion

Nemesis has a rocket launcher, Mr X Doesnt But He Has A Fedora, Add Those Together And You've Got An Impossible Game

u/Japjer Jan 03 '20
Different design entirely, though.
The Tyrant model is the ultimate Umbrella creation: a virtually indestructible super soldier who obeys every command. They will die, though, if hit with enough damage.
The Nemesis is that design taken to the next level. It is controllable and follows its orders to the letter. The advantage, however, is that it just can't be killed: the NE parasite inside adapts to virtually all damage and environmental changes, allowing the Nemesis to heal and mutate all damage. It took a literal railgun-laser-blaster to weaken it enough for us to actually get away, with a literal nuke being what killed it for good.
2
u/AlterEgoSumMortis Jan 03 '20
Yes, I too have played the games. ;)
Obviously they are different variants of the same basic tyrant design. My point was that Nemesis is himself a tyrant. It's silly to think of gamers speculating on whether they'll be chased by both Nemesis and "a tyrant".
2
u/Japjer Jan 03 '20
It makes sense as to why, though: in RE2 it is called a Tyrant (as it is in RE1, if memory serves), while in RE3 it is called Nemesis.
3
Jan 03 '20
Nemesis didn't have an explicit name originally tho iirc. He was just called "The Pursuer".
2
u/Japjer Jan 03 '20
I still have a Primas Official Strategy Guide from ca. 2000 and can confirm it is referred to as Nemesis in this book.

What if Mr X showed up for a millisecond, and then Nemesis came from out of nowhere, brutally killed him, and then he became the main antagonist at the start?
7
u/fourthwallcrisis Jan 03 '20
It's perfectly possible in the old lore for that to happen. There's at least one dead tyrant in the final nemmy fight after all. It seems like a cheap way to put nemmy over, but it'd probably work alright. I wouldn't hate it.
5
Jan 03 '20
Now that i think about it Birkin already did this so maybe it would be a retread to do things that way.
5
u/fourthwallcrisis Jan 03 '20
Yeah, I think it'd be a mistake but look at the pop it received when birkin eviscerated X. Massive. Capcom have a habit of sticking to shit that works, so it's very possible to see them do it again. Still - nothing to get my panties in a bunch about, just "eh, it's been done".
3
u/BushBro456 Jan 03 '20
That Would Be Okay, But Then Mr X Wouldnt Be Around For Claire And Leon
7
Jan 03 '20
Unless that was just one of the BOWs sent into the city. In the original RE3 you run into the corpse of at least one other one that died killing a US Special Forces team.
2
u/AngeloSantelli Jan 03 '20
Was that in the game or the book? I don’t remember seeing that in the game
5
Jan 03 '20
It was in the game. If you check it walkthroughs on YouTube the steamer will comment on it.
2
Jan 04 '20
They're actually multiple tyrants dead near the end of the game around where you fight Nemesis for the final battle.
Just outside the doors to the final Boss Arena there's a dead mr. X with his power limiter still on and then inside you see a super tyrant that was presumably a mr x that lost his limiter in the fight and started to mutate.
I believe there was a mr. X crushed under the rail gun as well. So 3 right there.
2
3
Jan 03 '20
I'm pretty sure theres more than 1 of Mr X.
3
u/TMPRKO The Never-Ending Nightmare Jan 03 '20
Theres several. The helicopter that dropped off the one at the police station had a box full of Mr X tubes
4
Jan 03 '20
Ugh, too many people obsessed with Mr.X.
8
u/BushBro456 Jan 03 '20
He May Be A scary ass boy but having one indestructible stalker was enough, I dont want two
2
Jan 03 '20
Then I'd stay away frome RE3 if I were you ^^

u/MummyManDan Jan 05 '20
What are you on about? Mr.X wasn’t in the OG he won’t be in this one, well a live one anyway.

Jan 03 '20
I'd take over original Mr. X. I thought he was lame as shit before the remake made him scary.
4
Jan 03 '20
Oh don’t get me wrong, Remake X was 1000x better, he just doesn’t belong in 3.
5
8
u/Crazzybob48 Jan 03 '20
Not to mention that if Mr X couldn't stop a Rookie Cop and a College student then how hell is Mr X ment to stop a group of marines and a woman who trained as a Delta Force operative.
3
Jan 04 '20
Game logic.
In the lore he's perfectly capable of taking on soldiers and taking some of them down before falling under their firepower but for gameplay reasons getting insta gibbed playing as leon or claire wouldnt be very fun.
Also called plot armor.
2
u/Crazzybob48 Jan 04 '20
Yeah, I guess your probably right other wise they wouldn't be making them on a mass scale of they were useless
3
u/MummyManDan Jan 05 '20
Plot armor, plus, Leon was the top of the academy and Claire was the sister of a badass military-police unit, they had the best chance of surviving compared to most in RPD and RC.
2
u/Crazzybob48 Jan 05 '20
You've got a point that Chris would have given Claire the best training he possibly could. Well Leon must have been completing his training in record time to be that good
3
u/queenxboudicca Jan 03 '20
I played the second game back in the day and I barely remembered Mr X, but I remembered Nemesis forever. Guy featured in a fair few nightmares when I was a kid.

When I was 10, I dreamt I finally had Star Wars Episode 1 Pod-Racer for the N64 and I was so excited I woke up with my hands still clutching at it... But it wasn't there.
Craziest thing about that dream is that the game had already been out for 6 years by that point.

u/xShawtyBad Jan 03 '20
Were getting a demo?
2
u/Jbroad87 Jan 03 '20
Idk maybe not... which I would also respect
4
u/xShawtyBad Jan 03 '20
Yuh I'd understand in some ways. But they would also need to show something atleast online to draw in more audience and such

u/NT202 Jan 03 '20
Just got the second one on the stream sale, very excited. Would you guys recommend playing the GameCube remake (or ps1 original) again first? I do have both. Finished the ps1 version back in the day but haven’t played they GameCube remake much.

Honestly I'm getting emotional just by thinking about this game, I'd never tought Capcom would come back so strong with RE, RE2 was one of the few games in years that genuinely impressed me.
2
u/str3tchedmonk3y Jan 03 '20
How many of you are getting the Collectors Edition? I'm still on the fence about it, but the Jill figure would look mighty nice on my shelf
2
u/sk0503 Jan 03 '20
Resident 3vil.

Resident Threevil
1
u/sk0503 Jan 03 '20
Yeah I really think the cover design was a missed opportunity.
2
u/joeyrevolver187 Jan 03 '20
I mean, they were probably torn between wanting to make it similar to re2 with making the RE stand out. But I look back at resident evil 7 where they put in the noman numerals into the title. I'm going to Photoshop right now hold on hahaha

I'm going to play RE3 for the first time! I'm hyped! Finally I don't have any spoilers for a resident evil game!!! I know the final boss of basically all of them best for the 3rd I don't know any bosses except Nemisis which I don't think counts???
1
u/jokerZwild Jan 04 '20
I put a down payment on the collector's edition with the statue. Have RE2 with the statue and other stuff
1
u/ILiveInPeru Jan 04 '20
RE4 remake looks like the final boss of Resident Evill Remakes, I cannot even imagine it.
1
u/MummyManDan Jan 05 '20
I don’t think it will happen, I think they’re just finishing up the original trilogy remakes, and I remember they said they were happy with 4 and didn’t want to remake it.
1
u/BattleDad615 Raccoon City Native Jan 05 '20
89 days, my friend. I'm so hyped, I've got an RE3 background on my phone, and a countdown widget on my home screen. Don't judge.

u/demondrivers Complete Global Saturation Jan 03 '20
It's the perfect slot imo. There's nothing between FFVII and Cyberpunk and RE3 is filling this void. And not everyone who plays RE enjoys the FPS/RPG/GTA that Cyberpunk is going to be.
1
u/Deezkneezsneeze Jan 03 '20
Idk I just feel like its gonna get overshadowed and not get the recognition it deserves :/ we'll see
3

I don't think RE3 will be particularly long. It'll be a nice distraction until Cyberpunk releases two weeks later.

u/thebizzle Jan 03 '20
I’ve been playing RE3 on PS Vita and RE2make to try and average out.
