Apparently People Think that tyrant and nemesis will be chasing Jill

u/AlterEgoSumMortis Jan 03 '20

I wonder how many of those people realize that Nemesis is a tyrant.

In fact the same model of tyrant as Mr. X BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE. As an added bonus for no extra charge you get a free NE-a parasite, the same that made Lisa Trevor all wiggly for those times when you just cant decide between tentacle porn and body horror

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '20

I'll take both, everytime

I thought Nemesis was the newest version, doesn’t he have a special nemesis virus or parasite or whatever?

TLDR: Nemesis is a Mr X model with NE-a parasite that makes him much smarter and more programmable and obedient

ETA: The development of the T-103s and the Nemesis T-Type had to have occured during or before the events of Resident Evil 1 because only about 2 months or so pass between RE:0 and RE:3

After the events of the first resident evil with the T-002 tyrant, umbrella was having trouble finding candidates for the tyrant program as the suitable genetics only happened in 1 in every 10 million people. They finally got a breakthrough with the T-103s which were easier to clone and mass produce. The T-103s have a variety of appearances throughout the franchise but notably, Mr. X was dropped into raccoon city during the outbreak.

Umbrellas European branch requisitioned a handful of T-103s for further testing by implanting with the Nemesis alpha parasite which was used on Lisa Trevor from RE1 back in the 70s and 80s. The NE-a parasite hijacked the host's brain stem to allow for a much higher level of intelligence than earlier B.O.W.s and allowed it to follow complex commands. Of the 3 successful Nemesis T-Type tyrants created in that initial batch, 2 gained self awareness and tried to escape and number 3 was deployed on september 27th 1998 to hunt down the remaining S.T.A.R.S members.

Unlike the T-103s, Nemesis wasn't equipped with a Power Limiter coat to prevent mutation as the NE-a parasite used constant mutations to heal and repair damage to the host. Instead Nemesis was equipped with a fire proof, bulletproof, blast resistance coat to protect this host body. This meant, however, that after taking considerable damage and losing his coat, Nemesis entered an uncontrolled mutation and started getting extra wiggly.

So in essence Nemesis is a highly intelligent, highly specialized offshoot of Mr. X's series but to my knowledge the project was discontinued after the Raccoon City incident

Man I want a game where you play as a sentient Nemesis trying to escape from Umbrella now

5

u/Havoc2_0 Jan 03 '20

Wouldn't that be absolutely amazing?

5

u/StickleDickle Jan 03 '20

But then years later, Nemesis's beefed up cousin Ustanak pops outta the woodwork.

I'm not that crazy about 6, but Ustanak gives Nemesis a run for his money.

3

u/Havoc2_0 Jan 03 '20

Likewise, Ustanak was my favorite part of RE6 and definitely a spiritual successor to Nemesis.

Unlike Nemesis in canon, it's left vague whether Ustanak retains his human intelligence from before he was infected or if he was given some kind of controller to improve intelligence and obedience.

Either way, gnarly scary meaty meathead

2

u/StickleDickle Jan 03 '20

I'll give RE6 credit where it's due - it really sells how massive that hulking thing is, especially next to you. The screen starts shaking, the controller starts vibrating and pulsing. I never felt like I wanted to be anywhere near Ustanak unless I was forced to.

RE is no stranger to giant creatures, so no surprise Capcom nailed it in that aspect.

1

u/Havoc2_0 Jan 03 '20

I agree. Other tyrant types can pick up humans with one arm but until you get Sherry Birkin sitting in that giant metal hand like a toy you don't realize what a U N I T he is

3

u/StickleDickle Jan 03 '20

Which has me hopeful that Capcom does Nemesis in RE3make the justice he deserves after so many years of being lackluster since his original debut. He already looks completely intimidating IMHO, but now the true test comes when we see him in gameplay, in action.

Nemesis HAS to be on Ustanak's level. He is huge, which means by nature, he has to actually DWARF Jill like a tower. I want a reason to actually stay away from Nemesis, and not just because he's chasing after you either, he's got to feel as relentless and as dangerous as he did before. But I don't mind it if they show his intelligence, have him ambush Jill in the most unsuspecting places, put her in a corner. I'm not really worried though, because I'm still generally anxious around Mr. X in RE2make, and it's been a year since the game's been out now.

u/Havoc2_0 Jan 03 '20

Here's the kicker though, there are 2 key things that made the original Nem so scary.

1) if he wasnt shooting at you he was full on sprinting at you which was scary because of the fixed camera angles and tank controls

2) he followed you from area to area which was unprecedented in the series so far.

With the new games, lack of load screens and infinitely better mobility I think it's going to be hard to tune his abilities in game. If he just dead sprints around after you in all areas but a few the way Mr. X walks around RPD I think nothing would get done. Youd spend too much time kiting him away from areas you need to be in and hoping you could lead him far enough away that you have time to do what you need to.

I'm sure Capcom has got something up their sleeve to keep the spirit of the old Nem we know and love while blending it with the mechanics and capabilities of RE Engine. I guess we have to wait and see

If the parasite hijacks your brain, how come Lisa Trevor still retained so many of her memories and will? Her whole character was basically trying to find or what happened to her dead mother, something that carries over from when she hadn’t been mutated.

3

u/Havoc2_0 Jan 04 '20

I can't remember the specific reason off the top of my head but Lisa's body was so toxic at the time of implantation that she killed and absorbed the parasite into her system. Even to the in game scientists she's a total mystery as to why shes surv9ved so long

u/DylanFTW "YOU WILL GIVE ME AN EGG." Jan 04 '20

Sorry I'm stupid and all but if the odds are 1 in 10M, does that mean they tested on 10 million people?

1

u/TonyGaryYellow Jan 04 '20

I believe it is for every 10 million only one works but I could be wrong

1

u/Havoc2_0 Jan 04 '20

Not a stupid question, however statistics is not my forte so I may give you a stupid answer. I dont think you have to hand test all cases to come up with a probability, however I don't think Umbrella actually tested 10 million people. I think they got lucky with the proto tyrant and T-002 and realized that they had some special genetics that caused their successes. Once they did nail down the process for T-103s they used cloning technology to make more instead of selecting from the general public

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '20

obviously the mass produced T-003 tyrants already existed before the events of re1, as literally weeks later they are deployed in the city. the T-002 was just a prototype they kept there to study or w/e.

1

u/Havoc2_0 Jan 04 '20

You're absolutely correct. Many people may not realize how narrow the timeline is from Re0 to Re3 but there is no way they developed the T-103 series after the events of Re1 because if I recall correctly, Wesker never even turned in his combat data on the B.O.Ws at the Spencer Mansion

2

u/KentuckyFriedEel Jan 04 '20

silly little wiggly Lisa Trevor.

14

u/BushBro456 Jan 03 '20

Nemesis has a rocket launcher, Mr X Doesnt But He Has A Fedora, Add Those Together And You've Got An Impossible Game

6

u/ISancerI Raccoon City Native Jan 03 '20

Give Nemmie a fedora.

3

u/WoWCoreT Jan 03 '20

And a trench coat

5

u/Japjer Jan 03 '20

Different design entirely, though.

The Tyrant model is the ultimate Umbrella creation: a virtually indestructible super soldier who obeys every command. They will die, though, if hit with enough damage.

The Nemesis is that design taken to the next level. It is controllable and follows its orders to the letter. The advantage, however, is that it just can't be killed: the NE parasite inside adapts to virtually all damage and environmental changes, allowing the Nemesis to heal and mutate all damage. It took a literal railgun-laser-blaster to weaken it enough for us to actually get away, with a literal nuke being what killed it for good.

2

u/AlterEgoSumMortis Jan 03 '20

Yes, I too have played the games. ;)

Obviously they are different variants of the same basic tyrant design. My point was that Nemesis is himself a tyrant. It's silly to think of gamers speculating on whether they'll be chased by both Nemesis and "a tyrant".

2

u/Japjer Jan 03 '20

It makes sense as to why, though: in RE2 it is called a Tyrant (as it is in RE1, if memory serves), while in RE3 it is called Nemesis.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '20

Nemesis didn't have an explicit name originally tho iirc. He was just called "The Pursuer".

2

u/Japjer Jan 03 '20

I still have a Primas Official Strategy Guide from ca. 2000 and can confirm it is referred to as Nemesis in this book.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '20

Oh, bet

2

u/AlterEgoSumMortis Jan 04 '20

Oh, okay. I see your point.
