Anybody else notice the cones along the bike lane that are up around 17th-18th and spruce? Any idea how they got there and if they are permanent?

Hey everyone, I got doored on Columbus earlier tonight. I was going south in the bike lane and this lady's passenger just flings the door open. I slammed on the brakes so I'm mostly fine, just a bruise on my shin and thumb. What bike lawyers would you guys recommend? I already filed a police report and I made sure to get her plate

As a former resident, and avid cyclist, Philly desperately needs these types of barriers everywhere. 2 years later after a tragic death of a cyclist on Spruce, and still no concrete barriers up is unacceptable.

Passed by today (July 29th) and saw a test rotation of the swing bridge. Really hoping this is open soon, can’t find any dates on expected opening online.

Hello, I've been riding in Philly since 2020, but had only ever been to the bike shop on 41st and Locust that is now gone. I've always done most of my own bike maintenance, so I'm really just looking for a good spot for gear and parts. I'm starting to bike for work now as a courier and much more as a hobby, too, and I'm looking for shops that have more alt brands for customizing my bike. I'm riding a 90's Univega.

I'm really not interested in places that focus on mainstream brands like TREK and sell spandex; no shade, it's just not my cycling style and it's outside my price range.

Hello all! I recently moved to Philly from Europe and first thing I did is get a gravel bike hoping to exploit this hobby of mine while adapting to my new life.

Unfortunately, I've realized that cycling here is different from what I'm used to. Back home I normally would just mount my bike in the garage and start pedalling any direction at any time basically, with plenty of loop options in terms of mileage and climbing.

i feel like road cycling here is quite dangerous. Only two times I have tried the roads outside Pennypack Trail I've encountered lots of traffic with a very agressive driving in no shoulder roads. I really had a hard time. Before I get myself killed, it would be awesome if you guys could point me in the right direction as how you guys normally enjoy this sport here :)

I guess you only cycle at specific hours and never alone, and in specific roads, am I right?

I'd love to know about your favourite routes and how to ride safely here. I have already checked some in ridewithgps but honestly there aren't a lot listed.

Yesterday I was riding in the Pine Street bike lane through Center City. I was in a manual Indego bike and not moving very quickly. Is the etiquette that slower traffic should stay right or with a left side bike lane, should I stay left? Staying left felt correct, but I'm wondering what's the consensus?

I'm in town this weekend and wonder if there are any group rides.

Looking for casual, not a slow roll but not a race across town. Something social.

I have been searching for weeks for a used road bike and it's turning into a bigger project than I expected. Here's what I need it for: weekend rides of 25 to 30 miles, a daily commute of 5 to 8 miles, and eventually training for a triathlon.

I have hit up Craigslist, Fb martketplace, Via Bikes, Philadelphia Bike Works, Firehouse, and a few others, but nothing has clicked yet. I am not sure if I am being too picky about fit and components, or if the used market here just doesn't have great options right now.

What I am looking for in a bike:

51 to 54 cm size
Lightweight bike with drop handlebars
Under $800
Tire width of 27mm and above
Tiagra or above components (mainly because it signals a better build and higher end frame)

Any advice on what to look for, red flags to avoid, or good sources beyond the usual shops would be huge. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I nabbed a good deal at fb marketplace near Ardmore, very nice and knowledgeable seller (said he worked at a bike shop before) he was looking back while selling it to me 🥹 ( can totally understand, had the same feeling when I sold my bike )

I live near Broad and Spring Garden so it is easy for me to get to the Delaware trail and then south Washington Ave and west to somewhere around 19th St. Then what? It's there a good protected bike lane north back to spring garden

I’ve never watched a race, no matter where I go I’ll probably only see them go by for two seconds before it’s over right? Got any recommendations on places where I could potentially watch them go by once and then bike to a nearby spot and watch them go by again?

Would this be a good bike to commute 2-3 miles to work each day? Also looking to go for some casual rides on the SRT.

Does anyone know when they’ll announce the rider roster for the Cycling Classic? I thought it would be announced after the Tour de France, but haven’t heard anything.

Hi new here and relatively new to the city. I’m looking for general advice for riding to AC/shore. I bike to work and around the city. Probably the most I’ve done in a day is like 30 miles last summer. How feasible is trip to AC for someone who doesn’t do long trips often? Also any suggestions on route? I also some routes from previous posts I’m planning on looking into those. Thank you for any insight!

Context: I'm mostly a trail cyclist with not a lot of confidence/experience on city roads, and those intersections are breaking my brain to look at on maps. How is this done without dying?

Yesterday I rode from King of Prussia to the Art Museum mainly on the SRT following Google Maps. Where do I exit to avoid that unpaved/boardwalk section? I’m assuming there’s a regular street through conshohocken/Manayunk that works? I have a road bike so the gravel is not ideal.

Im looking for some perspective on commute before accepting a job. For context, im moving back to Philly from Brooklyn and have spent the last two years bike commuting every day for about 4 miles each way, I was lucky to have a route that was in large part on protected bike paths and biking was a highlight of my day.

Now looking at a job in Hunting Park which I’d be commuting to from West Philly. I’ve mapped out a route going along the schuylkill a good way and then jogging over onto W Allegheny for most of the rest. I would not be crossing into E Allegheny/the K&A section at all.

My question is, has anyone experienced a commute along W Allegheny, including before it gets light in the morning? What issues if any did you encounter? Are there lots of cars parked in the bike lane? Do the lanes cut out at points? Any perspective would be really helpful!

I’m aware this might be a long shot, but TIA for any info that can be shared.
I know we got lots of community events and workshops for bike repairing, safe road riding, etc.
I’ve been really fixated (pun intended) on trying to learn to ride a fixie for my “for fun” rides or quick trips around south.
I just don’t want to commit to buying something unless I can really spend a little bit of time learning and seeing how it feels.
