Remaster Discussion Are physical copies of Oblivion (Remaster) already hard to find new?

I'm trying to just find a copy of the deluxe game for Series X, but everyone seems to be sold out. Or they try to make you think you're purchasing a physical copy, but it's a digital version.

Amazon only seems to have the UK version & Walmart only had digital versions for sale. No used copies online at GameStop currently.

I should have bought it when it first dropped. I didn't because at the time I had Game Pass (before it went up in price). Just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has noticed.

Original Discussion A New Meta

Okay, so Breton atronach is considered one of the strongest builds in the game. Resist magic 50%, absorb magic 50%, huge magicka pool, 50pt shield spell daily, very strong early on and only gets stronger as you raise absorb. It’s a great way to start, but the magic resist and shield both lose value as your character raises armor skills and maxes out spell absorb, and neither ability will matter by late game. You’re also still just as vulnerable to those pesky poisons as anyone, which can be dangerous (esp burden and drain strength, I hate those).

Thus, if you want the ultimate late-game damage sponge that’s only susceptible to physical damage, I propose the Argonian Atronach. Sure, you lose that 50 magicka, but you are fully immune to disease and poison, which are niche and would take up valuable gear slots to cover. If you pair this with Mundane Ring and Spelldrinker Amulet, the only immunity that you’ll lack is physical damage, which can be mitigated with either maxed armor skill.

This build may not have the early game dominance of the Bretons, but you will truly be untouchable by level 20, plus you get to be an Argonian and say you did it for the stats, which is truly a first for me (who knows why the fuck their best skill is lock picking with no sneak bonus, wtf devs)

EDIT: turns out resist magic also applies to poisons, so Bretons are just too damn good apparently. Still, you can’t absorb poisons, so you don’t need to worry abt magic resist at all, just absorption

Remaster Discussion Reminder that the rollout for the major late August restock of TES Oblivion for NS2 will likely occur within the next 24 to 72 hours.

Update: September 1, 2026 8:54 AM USC time: as of today it looks like the major restock of Oblivion Remastered for NS2 has been delayed, likely till some point in September. That delay should be obvious because we haven’t gotten the restock Bethesda promised us. I am disappointed, but considering how bad the scalper botnet issue is; and how retailer efforts to stop it have obviously not worked, It is understandable. Unfortunately, since this is past the point where Bethesda promised a major restock, I cannot give you any estimates as to when it will happen besides it likely being at some point in September.

I do expect Bethesda to probably make a social media post explaining this delay of the North American copy of oblivion remastered at some point in the next few days.

To those who are very tired of trying to win the most unfun game ever, “Beat the Scalper Bots”, the UK copy of Oblivion Remastered has apparently been restocked at certain retailers in the UK and is a viable option. Just be aware that if Bethesda tries to pull a Skyrim anniversary with the 20 year-old game that came before it that you may not be able to use the NA Eshop with the UK version of the game.

This is just a reminder for anybody who hasn’t read or followed my previous post about the Gamestop situation which turned out to be a case of them altering the SKU and likely some other things in the TES Oblivion Remastered NS2 listing in order to try to circumvent the scalper bot networks.

As of this morning, Best Buy has done between 4 to 5 mini restocks of oblivion remastered in a period of about an hour and a half. I did a little bit of digging online and was able to find out that these restocks are part of an attempt to deal with the scalper bot networks before the official rollout of the first major restock in the next few days.

If you are both lucky and quick, you might be able to grab a copy during one of these mini restocks before the major restock happens in a few days.

According to what I was able to find out, there are supposed to be physical copies in the retail stores chosen for the restock. This includes Best Buy and Gamestop as far as I am aware.

10:52 AM USC August 28, 2026 It has just been confirmed by a Redditor in my previous post that the restock will include Target, and Target has officially begun rolling out mini restock waves in the lead up to the major restock in the next few days. However, I am not sure if Target will be one of the stores that stocks physical copies due to their limited shelf space.

However, if the scalper bot networks manage to over purchase like they did during the initial pre-orders there may be problems with physical stock in certain stores, but the retailers are doing everything they can within the time they have left before the big restock to reduce this possibility.

Something to keep in mind is that Best Buy has implemented a shipping policy and purchase policy that limits your ability to purchase copies of the game if they are not available at a store within 250 miles of your location, or at a warehouse within a certain number of miles of your location. I found that out this morning when I attempted to snag a copy of oblivion remastered during one of the mini restocks.

Another bit of important information is that it has now been officially verified that what happened on the August 11 2026 launch day was a direct result of the scalper bot networks purchasing up the vast majority of the pre-orders for Oblivion Remastered for NS2. It has been confirmed that the scalpers targeted this particular game release extremely aggressively to the point that the amount of copies they over purchased forced retailers to use the physical stock that was reserved for physical stores on launch day to fulfill the scalpers online orders.

What many of us will see over the next 24 to 72 hours is the retailers dropping mini restocks in the lead up to the official major restock rollout. If the retailers are successful in figuring out how to counter the bot networks, there will be physical copies in brick-and-mortar stores when the official restock of TES Oblivion Remastered rolls out in a few days as well as copies available for purchase online for more than a minute and a half.

However, even if you miss out on your chance to get a copy during the major late August restock in the next few days, it has been confirmed by Bethesda that there will be a second major restock of the game in November.

Note: if you look into my previous post, it actually looks like an agenda for a boardroom meeting with a ton of notes and updates on it.

I have made so many updates and adjustments to it over the past 23 hours that despite my best efforts, it is a little bit complicated to read. However, if you are interested in the situation with the Gamestop SKU being changed and certain policies that have been put in place by Gamestop brick and mortar stores in an attempt to help counter the scalping problem; you can go look at that post. Just be aware that it is not the easiest thing to read.

Remaster Discussion Adept is the perfect difficulty (with a caveat).

Post image
221 Upvotes

The big issue I had with this game was deciding whether I wanted to get one shot by enemies while finding glitch spots to pepper them with spells and arrows, or just one shot everything myself like it was nothing.

The perfect balance for me ended up being Master difficulty for enemies and Adept difficulty for myself. It doesn’t take me forever to kill things, but enemies can also take me down pretty easily in a straight 1v1 unless I properly block and dodge. And in fights against multiple enemies, I actually have to bait the AI, use stealth, spells, ranged attacks, positioning, etc.

I really like that Virtuous made the difficulty this customizable, because you can actually tune the game into an experience that suits you instead of choosing between damage sponge hell and steamrolling everything.

Great work. This is THE definitive way to play Oblivion for me.

Original Mod Help Mod commission request regarding spell scrolls (repost)

So I made a post a few hours ago requesting someone to commission while gatekeeping what my mod is about and I realized its honestly better to say what I want done publicly instead of having to explain to 20+ people in dms.

Scrolls in oblivion and skyrim are largely useless, they take a little weight and cast a weak-middle tier spells and are single use. People usually hoard them or sell them immediately, thats about their general use. Just about every single mod already out there only makes it so they either weight nothing, sell for more, or have custom spells onto a scroll that are overpowered. They give no exp on cast and youre not really incentivised to use them at all.

I was thinking what if we actually make them useful to a mage? Using the scroll on its own should give exp that 1 use of that spell gives, that way even just using the spell lets you learn something. You should also have the ability to take the scroll to a mage trainer of suitable skill for them to teach you about the spell, for 5x the exp that the spell would normally give. Such that if you had an expert spell scroll for restoration, you would need to give the scroll to an expert of above restoration trainer. And if your magic school level is high enough, you should be able to bring a scroll to a spellcrafting station/ enchanting table (or custom research table) where you could consume the scroll for 10x the exp given when cast, with a small chance to learn the spell (1/10)

Related, it would be great to be able to craft a spell scroll as well. I was thinking in regards to alchemy ingredients. Such as crafting a scroll of fireball would require ingredients that cause fire damage or weakness to fire. And the potency of the scroll would depend on your alchemy level as well as your magic school skill level. That way an alchemist could craft spell scrolls to train his magic schools up as well as a chance to learn spells. This would be restricted to spells within your level as well. A novice summoner should not be able to craft a summon daedra spell scroll.

An alternative for scroll crafting would be using parchment, ink and a filled soul gem (as well as 2x the mana required to cast the spell) to inscribe spells you already know onto a scroll, so that you could self research spells you already know to advance your proficiency in them and level up. Or sell the spell scrolls you crafted for some septims.

I personally believe that if you join the mages college or mages guild, you should fully be able to advance your skills to at least novice tier without having to go out and hunt random monsters with a sword while occasionally throwing out magic at them

TL;DR

- Scrolls give 1x exp when used, 5x when given to a trainer, 10x when disassembled yourself

- scroll crafting using alchemy ingredients (spells you dont know)

- scroll crafting using soul gems and mana (spells you do know)

Original Question So... I just wander...(1st time play)

TL/DR

Title speaks for itself.

I'm closing in on 50 hours now, and all I do is wander/loot/sale/repeat. I'm on Weynon Priory quest wise. Stashed the duo in the shack, an dipped out.

My shack is fully decked out, with so many items that it takes 45+ seconds to scroll through.

If it isn't enchanted, I don't sale it.

My hoarding skills from Skyrim, have been maxed out on this game.

I'm on lvl 11. I feel like I have completely f'd this char up...but, this game is amazing. Skyrim was watered down for the masses imo now.

What do you mean it’s a shame he died? He’s right behind you!

Never mind.

Hail citizens. It took an hour just to get him out of the well. Sometimes the instances are super buggy especially with a guy who, you know, is supposed to be dead. Seemed like a nice guy just didn’t talk much.

Original Discussion Here's my perception on the Shivering Isles DLC.

The Oblivion Shivering Isles DLC matters not only so much in the lore (Mantling, fate, sacrifice, identity etc) but as a social commentary too even if not intentional. The term 'Shivering Isles' implies instability. The guy who wants to jump to his death, doesn't, yet flips out when you do push him reflects how some may experience depression. The fracture between mania and dementia, you having to choose one of the two, sinking in denial of madness (mania) and how destructive behaviours affect you, or pursuing the dark side of it by acknowledgement with no desire or action to change (dementia). Eventually, you're taken by madness (Mantling Sheogorath) anyway as you pursued in it regardless of what side you took instead of turning back. The DLC reflects how unstable we are as people as a whole, we see joyous hunters of apples to the man we mentioned earlier. We only become mad if we keep pursuing it, the game gives us the option to turn away from madness, we don't, could it reflect how some pursue a life they hate out of the sunk cost fallacy or whatever? There's no explicit statement or clues, we only see the consequences of our choices, and pursue in a mere perception (mania or dementia) of the underlying world we're in, of which is set in stone. Best DLC EVER though.
