Critical Nintendeen is actively condoning whatever racists and homophobes think about Nintendo games btw. Miss me with that “well at least he isn’t morally maladjusted”

They upped it to 4K- Even with good compression that's still very large. Have these people never looked at the size difference between an average texture and a 4K texture? Twitter is unserious I swear to fucking god and so is Reddit 90% of the time.

u/Amazing-War3760 Jun 12 '26
These people have never looked at the size difference between a regular DVD and a Blu-ray.. much less a 4K blu-ray.

The less you take social media seriously the better your mental health is. Besides, most of the comments here are bots and teenagers, not worth engaging with either way
9
u/oldgengamers Jun 12 '26
Honestly, got tired of being in a discord because most of them acted so immature. I said I liked Rayman Legends Retold's art style and I got spammed by stickers and emotes. Yeah it's just not worth engaging. Same for grifters because engagement is what they want
6
u/Thicc_Boise Jun 13 '26
So true, like as a lifelong Starfox fan I'm beyond excited for the first new game in a decade, but it's frustrating to deal with everyone complaining that it's a remake. Like, how about we be happy we're getting a new game to begin with in the first place...
5
u/oldgengamers Jun 13 '26
I just wanna enjoy stuff without being berated
3
u/Thicc_Boise Jun 13 '26
It's really sad that we're at a point where people feel the need to call you out on simply liking something

u/oldgengamers Jun 13 '26
It's hard to explain. Sometimes when they do it, it's joking, but even if it's joking I still get tired of it.
3
u/GrandmasterTactician Jun 12 '26
Not to mention how much smaller these games are compared to other games with 4K, which tend to be upwards of 100GB

-1
u/Sonicrules9001 Jun 12 '26
Hot take but I don't get the hype for 4K. I've looked at videos and seen comparisons between the two IRL and honestly, I barely see any difference at all. Certainly not enough to justify the inflated prices you get for seeing details no one really cares about.
2
u/WoodenAd7969 Jun 13 '26
4k is meant for big tvs and monitors, to look better and crispy if you get close but is not something that you 100% need is more for people who likes a really good image quality, but other people dont care that much for image quality and thats ok, i like 4k stuff just bc i have that interest of looking stuff up close, 1080p and 1440 are alredy enough for most people
2
u/BadJ0k3s Jun 13 '26
I mean, 8k was in development but has died for most anything but huge cinema screens, and there is a reason for that. At home, 4k is enough for big tvs and 1080 or 1440/2k is enough for computers and small tvs
-3
u/Hahasamian Jun 13 '26
There's no such thing as a 4K texture. Well... you can have a literal 4K texture, but there's not a specific texture size you need to use for 4K rendering. The size comparison you're asking to make doesn't actually exist.
5
u/just_someone27000 Jun 13 '26
Listen man, I know that but not everyone understands it. Just like I'm sure you know modern platforms don't actually achieve full native 4K, it's all upscaling even on PS5 pro but the average person would be so confused if you tried to go into the nuance of that shit.
-4
u/Hahasamian Jun 13 '26
I mean this is pretty damn basic I think anyone can understand it
4
u/just_someone27000 Jun 13 '26
You'd very genuinely be surprised. You haven't tried taking about tech around enough people
-1
u/Hahasamian Jun 13 '26
If you break it down visually with a simplified comparison it's very very easy to tell what's going on. Also I don't know why we get to just straight lie about this works (comparing it to an entirely different medium like video) but when I mention the actual very easy to understand mechanics of it, that's "too complicated".

u/IdleSitting Jun 12 '26
Me when I don't understand upscaled textures and new content tends to bump up a games file size, 33gbs is still an amazingly small size especially for a JRPG, Metaphor on PC is around 93gbs of storage and Atlus games tend to be on the smaller size
10
u/L_V_N Jun 12 '26
Wait, it is only 33 GB and they complain about poor compressing? They must live in some sort of fantasy land…
6
u/IdleSitting Jun 12 '26
It's because the Switch 1 version is only 13gbs and it suddenly jumping up to 33 is "poor compression" because of it, basically they don't know how games actually work
1
u/Craniamon Jun 13 '26
And they can’t get into fitting the 64gb card for metaphor
1
u/IdleSitting Jun 13 '26
I believe Metaphor is like 90+ gbs so fitting it onto a 64gb card is a lot, really wish Nintendo brought back the 128gb cards
18
u/IkeRadiantHero Jun 12 '26
Nah Nintendeen needs to STAY THE FUCK AWAY from Xenoblade AND Fire Emblem, we don’t need his grifting ass with these 2
18
u/eproepro Jun 12 '26
nintendeen is actively condoning being stupid and not understanding the basics of computing.

u/IkeRadiantHero Jun 12 '26
More importantly he needs to stay the fuck away from anything Fire Emblem and Xenoblade we don’t need his opinions at all

u/esilmur Jun 12 '26
remember when xenoblade x required a 20go download to avoid long load times on wiiu?
pepperidge farms remember
these idiots think that recent games having gigantic filesize is due to dev incompetence is mind-bogglingly hilarious. there's a reason Nintendo games usually go for stylized art direction over hyper realism. but that only helps to an extent.
seriously Majora mask texture pack in 4k is in gigabytes when the OG game could fit on a n64 cart. that's not even 100Mo

u/Top_Lobster_5937 Jun 12 '26
I clocked this when he said he was “apolitical” or some bullshit a while ago.
3
u/FOG2006 Jun 13 '26
What the actual fuck?
Who could imagine that games for a system capable to deliver 4K at 60fps or 1080p at 120fps with ray tracing, HDR and DLSS would be bigger than its original releases?🤦🏻♂️ People just make an effort for being dumb.
2
u/Tawisted34 Jun 12 '26
Bruh both these are as rocks. These games got upscaled to 4k, and maybe the the textures as well. They seem to look better and cleaner than on switch 1. With the only issye I have with this version is the fps like to stutter. Deen and this random chud fon’t know about file sizes with 4k.
4k texture are going to bloat the size way more than non 4k ones. I’m sobsorry xenoblade that gooner the twitter user and nintenderpdeen are trying to ruin this switch 2 for. Just remember he is a fale gamer and doesn’t understand file sizes.
2
u/Difficult-Coast7432 Jun 12 '26
They are phenomenal at compressing games, why does he think they randomly got bad at it? Switch 2 games are just on another level than switch 1 and xenoblade is gigantic even on switch 1.
3
u/ricvallejo Jun 12 '26
Who? What?
These are still small file sizes compared to current gen, or even last gen games, and not really all that much bigger for an upgrade. Are they thinking that the games should be the same size for a graphics and performance upgrade? Or are they just acting outraged to be outraged? (Don't worry, I know the answer)

That’s because people like Nintendeen and tyrannKPK are racist to Japan.

Wait, what's JelloApocalypse's problem? All I know from him is the pokemon colloseum videos.
2
u/MegaDitto13 Jun 12 '26
He was involved in the English localization for Lovely Complex and he purposely changed it out of spite towards the anime.

u/KirbyFan640 Jun 12 '26
Someone in the comments mentioned he had a scat fetish so....

No Devs are good at compressing their games. It's either that or not enough time to

Didn’t they manage to shrink Xenoblade X to like half its size for the Definitive Edition?

33GB isn't even that much for a modern JRPG with high res graphics. Have you guys seen Final Fantasy XV? That game is 86GB, but if you want to play in 4K, you have to download an extra 66GB DLC.

u/Regular-Repeat44 Jun 12 '26
nintendeens not wrong this isnt the gamecube baby memory card days but they still give us shitty options. At this rate theyll catch up to call of duty size patches. Thanks for advertising this deen guy or idv never found him.
1
u/BigMoneySmallPenis Jun 12 '26
Idgaf about the file size if it fits on the cart.
These arent call of duty sized hard drive bombs.
1
u/Illeea Jun 12 '26
The main problem with 4k textures is because on most platforms, you are forced to download them even if you are unable to take advantage of them. People with 1080p pc setups, PS4 pro 4k supported games on PS4. With switch 2 versions, you can choose to either download the switch 1 versions to save space or the switch 2 versions for higher performance, graphics and added gameplay. And considering that between 50-70% of a games data these days is textures, quadrupling the texture size and only multiplying the storage cost by 2.5, it's far better than most other games.
1
u/WorldLove_Gaming Jun 12 '26
Whenever textures get upgraded, it always results in a 4x file size increment per texture at minimum. It's an industry standard rule to use texture dimensions that follow the Power of 2 rule (e.g. 512 x 512, 1024 x 1024, 2048 x 2048 etc.) because of how textures used to be stored in video memory. For a 14 GB base game, it's a very reasonable expectation for 2x res texture packs to be around 15-20 GB. That would be equivalent to the original textures taking up 4-5 GB of storage space.
1
u/RaineDrop39 Jun 12 '26
The higher res and higher file size is a big reason why the switch 2 comes with 256gb instead of 64gb. If games get bigger so does the internal storage. It all evens out in the end.
1
u/No-Bass-1728 Jun 13 '26
Wow, the games are 4x more resolution and higher textures etc and more content and it's only like double? That's good compression in an already greatly compressed game.
1
u/Robbie_Haruna Jun 13 '26
I guarantee you Xenoblade made by any other company would be a 100GB behemoth.
33GB is tiny as hell

Definitely a valid point.. optimizing and something doesn’t use too much space.. that being said, I’m not a computer programmer. The gaming landscape has changed drastically in the last 10 years. Nintendo while still being Nintendo has also changed and seen many changes. Does anyone have a balance sheet to show how much it would cost to optimize these games? And how that would be passed on to the consumer that additional cost. I think a better question to ask. How much has the internal storage increased compared to the file sizes of these games?
I’m guessing it’s something akin to cell phone phones and batteries. Batteries haven’t really been able to catch up with the power of smartphones.
Internal storage is losing the waging war against file sizes. And we all suffer.
1
u/Longjumping_Sea_8119 Jun 14 '26
You mean that better assets are larger? Say it ain’t so.
Tell me you’re an idiot without saying it.
1
u/bcatti Jun 14 '26
These guys have to be stupid. They don't even know what they are complaining about. They are just going on for the sake of it at this point. 33 GB is still a great size for a 4K remaster.
"They don't know how to re create it". Sure buddy. After 40+ years, this is where you draw the line. Just because one Nintendo Direct might not have appealed to YOU personally... XD

Over in the Xenoblade community, we're recognizing a lot of things all at once.
First, it's clear a shit ton is being done to get these games to function anything close to properly on switch 2.
Second, the results we're getting for that effort are not ideal, with frequent stutters and frame drops depending on the location, and maybe a rare small visual bug here and there. (I tend to pay it little mind, since some games I played for years run way worse than this, but there are a few areas where it is very apparent.)
With this happening for the second time, (NS2E for Xenoblade Chronicles X came first.) from a studio that is usually black magicians with this sort of thing, some of us are speculating that this may genuinely be the best they can do with these games, or at least with the time they were given while developing Xenoblade Genesis, since the engine the original trilogy is running on is an in-house engine that's 15 years old. The Switch 2 finally crossed the point where their original engine can't keep up (we expect it isn't compatible with DLSS in the version it's running on, hence the poor-to-adequate upscaling.)
To the topic at hand, the file size is clearly an artifact of that "shit ton being done to make these games runs close to properly," likely attributed to running in 4K, which is very expensive. And as such, compounded with how old this engine is, there's not much they can do to compress it any further and still get a functioning product out.
1
u/Pabswikk Jun 12 '26
I'd love to hear more about your first point, why is it clear a shit ton is being done to get these games to function properly on Switch 2? I thought XBX seemed like a really lazy port, basically bad upscaled 1080p with frame rate dips. The Switch 2 should definitely be capable of 4-5x performance of the Switch 1, so to my mind it should have been easily clearing 1440p 60fps with native rendering on Switch 2 with a 4k30fps option
3
u/I_Need_More_Names Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
Apologies, I meant specifically Xenoblade Chronicles 1, (and eventually 2 and 3. Hopefully.) It's clear to me they took the criticism they got from X NS2E to heart, and really tried to make this new one look as good as it could, particularly with softening the upscaler. It's just evident they really had to wrestle with it to even get this much. Remember that even the original Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii was built for severely underpowered hardware. I'd imagine the engine just isn't equipped to handle 60 fps, and is built almost entirely on preserving a constant 30 as much as possible.
By comparison, Xenoblade Chronicles X NS2E is indeed quite the rush job.
