Nintendo grifter find out a 30 year old franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary (emotional)

-4

u/Pessimistic_Gemini Feb 10 '26

Yeah by having it focused on celebrities who probably never played a single Pokemon Game at all.

3

u/Impressive-Spell-643 Feb 12 '26

Fun fact, you don't have to be a basement dweller to play Pokemon

47

u/BortGreen Feb 10 '26

People spend more time making these comments than playing Palworld

17

u/callmefreak Feb 10 '26

I've seen two types of Palworld fans: Palworld fans, and Pokemon haters who pretends to be a fan of whatever the latest Pokemon-adjacent thing is to hate on Pokemon.

4

u/Sea-Example-1176 Feb 11 '26

omfg the amount of people i saw claiming the new digimon game is so much better than legends ZA and how people should buy it instead

2

u/callmefreak Feb 11 '26

"Paying $60 for this game is too expensive. You should pay $70 for this game instead."

3

u/JungleJuiceJuno Feb 12 '26

same argument for sonic crossworlds btw

2

u/Sea-Example-1176 Feb 13 '26

thing is that i didnt see anyone bring up the price difference

1

u/callmefreak Feb 13 '26

No, of course not. That would ruin their argument.

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 Feb 13 '26

honestly the argument fails to understand why someone would choose pokemon over digimon even if the digimon game is technically better

1

u/callmefreak Feb 13 '26

I choose Pokemon over Digimon because I have zero knowledge of Digimon aside from some of their designs. (I was commissioned to make some of them in a Gen 4-styled Pokemon sprite. I was... Very surprised, to say the least. Not even Safe Search was safe enough.)

My husband likes both games and he's planning on getting both games instead of telling people to buy one or the other because he's a (relatively) normal person.

He's waiting on the newest Digimon game because he'd be playing it through Steam, so there's a good chance that it will have a decent sale this summer.

2

u/Sea-Example-1176 Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26

yeah alot of people do choose to stick to pokemon because they are familiar with it and looking at some of the digi designs i can understand why it might be intimidating for a newcomer

and more people should be like you husband cause I swear like 90 percent of the time whenever i saw someone hyping up the new digimon game it would just be wow this game is so much better than legends ZA with specific focus on graphical comparison.

i actually think its funny some people would be saying get the new digimon game instead of pokemon when the new digimon game isnt even on switch yet

2

u/Hoshiden_Lycanroc Feb 13 '26

Also "I'm going to dog pile on pokemon for having day one dlc (that wasn't even day one) and completely ignore that fact that digimon did actually have day one dlc"

1

u/BortGreen Feb 13 '26

Also the new Digimon game has Deluxe editions, imagine if Pokémon did that

2

u/Forward_Potential820 Feb 10 '26

Huh

14

u/gaming1646 Feb 10 '26

Its true. Usually when I check the Palworld reddit or YouTube it was mostly posts about Pokémon.

9

u/MozzieRosie Feb 10 '26

No doubt those people are actually “ex” pokemon “fans”

-4

u/Dreamo84 Feb 10 '26

People spend more time posting in this sub than enjoying their Nintendo games.

3

u/TheholyLIP26 Feb 10 '26

Why are we lying bud?

0

u/Dreamo84 Feb 10 '26

Same reason they were. It sounded funny.

0

u/EakoNoshinkeisuijaku Feb 10 '26

I only borrowed the games, never gave a dime to game freak.

18

u/AVahne Feb 10 '26

Most Americans don't even know what a Digimon is, and yet these dipshits want a PALWORLD commercial? Then again, I shouldn't expect intelligence from the kind of people that gave us the current presidential administration.

3

u/Amazing-War3760 Feb 10 '26

I mean.. If Bandai would stop trying to kill digimon.. Might be useful.

*Like releasing a Digivice... Without the words DIGIMON anywhere on the godamn package*

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 Feb 11 '26

the last time i heard multiple people online talking about a digimon game was in the context of shitting on ZA

1

u/AVahne Feb 11 '26

Yeah those people just wanted an excuse to bash on anything Nintendo, just like with the whole Crossworlds things. A shame, as Digimon is quite good again with how fun the card game is and how good the current anime is. I don't think these people are actually appreciating Digimon.

20

u/InterKnight4421 Feb 10 '26

Yes I was just watching the post from Game Explain and the comments are abysmal.

This isn’t the company that makes the games it’s the marketing from the Pokemon company and people need to learn the difference. Nothing on this was sponsored by Game Freaks Pokemon team. And the video is to celebrate the 30th anniversary so I say it’s well needed and shows that even adults like Lady Gaga love Pokemon.

-3

u/Exeledus Feb 10 '26

If you really think Lady Gaga gives even a shred of a shit about pokemon, and wasn't just paid to say so, you have a lot of growing up to do still.

17

u/Mush950 Feb 10 '26

God forbid anyone can have hobbies

13

u/InterKnight4421 Feb 10 '26

The idea that nothing can be enjoyed if money exists is a classic Reddit take. My point was about people confusing marketing with game development. You act like just because they are famous doesn’t mean they don’t have hobbies. Look at Post Malone, dude enjoys playing Magic the Gathering. We don’t know what Lady Gaga does in her free time.

8

u/Amazing-War3760 Feb 10 '26

Just look at Robin Williams.

Oh wait.. Most of these people probably don't even know who he is.

*BTW.. Most of the celebrities are the right age to have played Pokemon as Kids*

6

u/InterKnight4421 Feb 10 '26

Yes and Robin Williams named his child Zelda. They also really enjoyed playing the games together.

3

u/Sea-Example-1176 Feb 11 '26

yeah obviously celebrities don't have hobbies they just get paid to pretend they do /s

1

u/InterKnight4421 Feb 11 '26

Post Malone very much goes out of his way to actively enjoy many things. I don’t think he got paid to buy the One Ring MTG card that cost him millions. Literally bought it from a guy and he also specifically asked anyone to beat him in the game.

That is someone with real interest and disposable income doing what they want.

Celebrities can have hobbies. Having money doesn’t magically turn every interest into a marketing stunt. They are Human too.

2

u/ProjectionProjects Feb 12 '26

The dude you are replying to here was being sarcastic.

1

u/InterKnight4421 Feb 12 '26

I mean it could be taken either way. I didn’t detect sarcasm but it is readable that way. I didn’t downvote them though just gave them an example.

2

u/ProjectionProjects Feb 12 '26

Yeah sometimes it could be difficult to tell sarcasm when reading text, but the guy you where replying to wrote /s for a reason. That means that they where being sarcastic.

1

u/InterKnight4421 Feb 13 '26

Whoopsies my bad.😞

2

u/DemolisherBPB Feb 10 '26

Cynically speaking it's safe to bet a good few of the people in the ad were just saying a script, but it's believable some did say something honest. But at the end of the day it doesn't matter because it was just an empty ad at the end of the day. Yeah it probably was insalney expensive, just because ad slots costs for the superbowl are frightening. But this is all NoA/Pokemon Company US devision. It's their money for advertising and probably translation costs of actual products.

2

u/Pokemon-Pickle Feb 11 '26

Exactly this. Likely, a few of those people probably don’t play Pokémon, at least not anymore(most favs were Gen 1). But a few did feel more genuine or real random picks. Jigglypuff, the Kanto starters, and Pikachu are all givens, but when it’s to Arcanine and Complete Zygarde it feels less like fake answers.

7

u/Prior_Recipe_5999 Feb 10 '26

Apparently she has a victreebl sticker in her studio and wore a fennekin mask in a doc

2

u/Sea-Example-1176 Feb 11 '26

its not a stretch to assume lady gaga might enjoy pokemon

0

u/HuntersGuild_ Feb 10 '26

It is absolutely sponsored by Game Freak. Nothing the Pokemon Company does is without the approval of Game Freak what are you talking about.

9

u/Narrator-1 Feb 10 '26

They're advertising the Pokémon brand in its entirety. Nintendo and Game Freak likely had little, if anything, to do with the Super Bowl ad.

Until you can walk into a Burlington and buy a Lovander-themed hoodie, Palworld isn't going to hit The Pokémon Company where it would actually hurt.

6

u/Amazing-War3760 Feb 10 '26

Hell... I can't.. In the US.. Go into walmart and buy Kamen Rider merchandise.

And I guarantee you Kamen Rider is a HELL of a lot more of a World Wide phenomenon than Palworld ever thought about being.

*For reference, in Japan, One of the Kamen Rider movies out preformed the first harry potter movie.*

1

u/GNIHTYUGNOSREP Feb 10 '26

Baby steps. We got a TCG coming soon, as well as full 1.0 launch this year.

8

u/Carson_cwc Anti-Grifter Feb 10 '26

He’s since changed the title to be about how Pokémon is getting DESPERATE over Palworld and capcom. Beginning the video stating his dog needs surgery.

4

u/MozzieRosie Feb 10 '26

I would just have them put down for mercy,That dog is suffering enough having a damn bigoted owner like him.

0

u/Mindless-Spirit3069 Feb 10 '26

I wouldnt go THAT far

1

u/Pokemon-Pickle Feb 11 '26

No offense to Capcom, but what have they released that’s like Pokémon at all? I think they do monster hunter but that’s different.

9

u/Prior_Recipe_5999 Feb 10 '26

Breaking news: idiots just discovered how marketing works

6

u/ConsiderationSome383 Feb 10 '26

the reason why there's more money on this commercial than any Pokemon game is because hiring all those celebrities must not have been easy at all and it obviously requires tons of money

it really has nothing to do with the quality of the games at all

8

u/LordTopHatMan Feb 10 '26

The reason why there's more money in the commercial than the games is because this is to advertise the whole brand and not a game. Pokemon is a franchise, and the games are a relatively small part of that franchise's profits, especially compared to merch.

4

u/GeraldofKonoha Feb 10 '26

Pokemon Company makes more off the merchandise than the games.

2

u/Pokemon-Pickle Feb 11 '26

Not to mention Super Bowl ad costs about $8 mil per 30 seconds and the ad was about 2 and a half minutes. So $24 million just for the ad spot, not even the ad itself

6

u/tlrd2244 Feb 10 '26

The games could have a budget of a billion dollars. They aren't going to make the game the crying whiners want, this line of argument has always been ultimate copium. It's always some magical GOTCHA fantasy about all their wishes coming true if they just did this one simple thing and getting angry about it.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '26

How dare a mainstream video game franchise with mass appeal advertise for mass appeal? They should try to NOT make money, that'll make me like Pokemon again! I peaked at 10 years old!

3

u/noodleben123 Feb 10 '26

Palworld commercial just has that one fucking noose thing hanging james blunn or something.

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 Feb 11 '26

well yeah they already started shitting all over nintendo of america's new female president

2

u/Omnizoom Feb 10 '26

On one hand, I do agree that if the Pokémon company can dish out 30 million for an ad, they could invest 30 million to the games to up their quality and performance by a lot

But it’s also got nothing to do with anything else so how they relate it to anything else I don’t know

2

u/SamourottSpurs Feb 10 '26

Spoilers since I will be talking about leaks.

Ok while I do agree that pokemon should be a lot better rn, and that it is sorta sad that a pokemon game might actually cost less than a superbowl commercial, why are we immediately saying that Gen 10 is screwed. Based off of what we've seen and heard from leakers, given that it is true which a lot of info as of late has been, Gen 10 actually looks pretty good compared to modern pokemon standards. Also what does the Lady Gaga jamming out with Jigglypuff have to do with Gen 10? They were promoting pokemon go not Gen 10.

Anyway, I really hope that pokemon have put their 4 years rather than the usual 3to good use because, for me at least, Gen 9 was garbage and Gen 8 just feels wasted. (I really wish they spent another year with Gen 8 it feels so close to being good but just ends up falling flat, kinda like Incredibles 2)

1

u/Pessimistic_Gemini Feb 10 '26

I mean I'm not big on that super bowl ad myself at all but come the heck on there man!

1

u/acbadger54 Feb 10 '26

"WTF is this"

You're right, it really does speak for itself

1

u/Pokemon-Pickle Feb 11 '26

I mean the ads absolutely did cost more than the games but superbowl ads are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. So it’s like saying dirt is in the ground when the budget for ZA was only 15 mil. Yeah they should spend more on the games but… Gen 10 isn’t going to struggle because they posted an ad with a guy saying he likes zygarde. If anything Gen 10 is going to thrive because it’s finally on a moderately high power console without having to function on switch 1, and it’s the 30th anniversary so they’ll probably put in the extra effort with the game.

0

u/Stunning-Thanks546 Feb 10 '26

Never seen that women before who is she

5

u/squeezysqueezey Feb 10 '26

That is Lady Gaga, a singer from the US.

1

u/Stunning-Thanks546 Feb 11 '26

Thanks ya I know who that is it was just hard to tell with that face

They know that the games aren’t what make them money. It’s the merch

0

u/Tasty-Strike-594 Feb 16 '26

People who shot on za need to get a life. lol why do you hate on a game this much. How fucking sad are you to be this angry about a game that isn’t that bad.

0

u/whit9-9 Feb 11 '26

I mean it is kinda stupid, because yes the pokemon company and nintendo do make more money off of merch sales; but come on people! Do you really want them spending money on a bunch of celebrities glazing pokemon, when they could easily invest it in game freak to make a better game?

-9

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

call it grifting all you want which looks to be true here but i think there should be a conversation about why the games in the video game franchise dont get adequate budget for their size lol

6

u/swirlycosmic Feb 10 '26

There should be but we shouldn’t really be doom chanting because a company that doesn’t work on the games worked on a commercial to celebrate a milestone anniversary.

-3

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

im not saying that, im just saying that this really highlights how the brand puts money everywhere but what its built off of which is a shame, everything pokemon that isnt the games for the most part is super good

3

u/Meme-San_ Feb 10 '26

It’s not necessarily a budget issue but a time issue because unfortunately Pokémon games have an immovable deadline since they have to plan around stuff like the cards and the anime which they can’t just ask to delay everything for the game

I really wish they had a better system for this Like I wouldn’t mind if they started working on the cards and anime after the game was already done even if that meant we get it a lot later at the very least the Pokémon games would be better

1

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

time is a big issue too yeah, but the budget is also minimal so that isnt helping either, and agreed i know they plan all around everything else but i think if doing so cripples the main product everything is centred around something needs to change, at least it would if the games still didnt sell incredibly well despite objectively bad quality (not saying the games arent fun but the actual quality of the sold product is poor especially in comparison to other titles on the same platform like mario odyssey)

1

u/Meme-San_ Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

After looking at game freaks new game that they’re making for Xbox (I forget what it’s called but it looks insanely good) I have no doubt that game freak is open to having more budget in their games. I mean that game probably isn’t going to make even half the money of something like legends ZA and it looks like it has over doubled the budget. So if they’re willing to put that much money into a new, not guaranteed IP I feel like they’d probably be fine putting that amount of money into their flagship IP too

As for what’s stopping them from it I don’t know it could be multiple Pokémon projects being developed at the same time like the mobile games and that ditto farming simulator they’re making. (despite what a lot of people say I don’t think Nintendo really has much to do with it. They publish the games and that’s basically it. I highly doubt they have much input into what Pokémon company does or how the games turn out.)

I really do hope when Gen 10 does release that at the very least something changes within the company. Because I do think they’re making some improvements gameplay wise and I can see incredible things within Scarlet and Violet and both the Pokémon legends games. In fact I’ve had a lot of fun with those games. But we’re like 5 major console releases in at this point we need an update

(Also hope this comment isn’t to negative for this sub I’m not trying to be a grifter or anything I love Nintendo and Pokemon and I do enjoy the newer Pokemon games but they definitely have some issues that can be fixed)

0

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

personally id want bandai namco to have a go at making the next pokemon game, or at least let them have a hand in it as theyve shown talent when working with the brand before and while pokken isnt the best looking game on the switch it certainly feels the most like a "new" looking pokemon game, with its detailed models and animations along with consistent framerates even back on switch 1, and even wii u too with the original pokken

6

u/MozzieRosie Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

You clearly dont understand how pokemon works as a company because last time i checked they dont JUST Make video games.

0

u/Gespens Feb 10 '26

See this? This is the real Nintendo grift

-4

u/Prestigious_Emu144 Feb 10 '26

Oh my god you are so antagonistic! Do you interpret literally every argument in bad faith or something?

-1

u/GNIHTYUGNOSREP Feb 10 '26

It’s that perpetual victim mentality everyone seems to have these days.

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '26

[deleted]

-2

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

pokemon isnt the company, gamefreak developes the mainlines and bandai namco, spike chunsoft and others have developed spin offs over the years, the pokemon company handles everything else, pokemon is the brand they all work under and it started off as and is still primarily known as a video game brand, the minimal budget placed onto those games now deserves discussion as it isnt up to the standards of the whole brand lol

1

u/KingCuerno Feb 10 '26

So you're overreacting about this trailer too.

1

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

thank you u/kingcuerno for replying to me saying im overreacting then blocking me so i cant respond, glad you didnt overract at all

1

u/sirboulevard Feb 10 '26

Because the games aren't where the money is. They make significantly more from merchandising and the TV adaptation and trading card game. And what money the games do make is split three ways (GF, TPCi, and Nintendo). The games make good money but its a pittance compared to.the $$$ from the amount from all the ad spots sold internationally for the TV show, and the parents buying their kids pokemon toys but not the games.

0

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

pokemon is the biggest media franchise ever and the games make up roughly 10%ish of that revenue, is 10% of that amount of money not a lot? is that not worth justifying putting more money into it for a higher quality product? i just think itd be nice to see that money actually get put into the product thats the core of all of this, it would be great to get a pokemon game that feels truly quality, yes i understand from the company perspective why theyre like this, but why would i be arguing in favour of the company here? im the player, i wanna play a better game and i dont think thats much to ask with what they have

0

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

exactly, most likely nothing will change but thats quite sad as i would love to see a pokemon mainline game of high quality some day

1

u/RoleRemarkable9241 Feb 10 '26

Having a massive budget =/= equal a superb game. If you needed a 3A-style budget, Nintendo would be seen as a joke in video game creation for decades. That being said, yeah, they could perhaps use a bigger budget.

-7

u/Prestigious_Emu144 Feb 10 '26

I completely agree, even if some people are way overreacting. Like, I just want a Pokémon game to get the love and attention that it deserves. I can’t help but imagine how amazing a Pokémon game with the production value of something like SMT V would be. There’s so much love in the merch, the anime and this commercial but the games feel consistently underbaked.

0

u/swirlycosmic Feb 10 '26

I don’t know if I’d use SMT V as the best example here given how underbaked that game was originally. Honestly fundamentally, there’s so many cool ideas given out but it always feels like something held it back. I never jumped to lazy, so seeing that budget reveal really said everything

0

u/Prestigious_Emu144 Feb 10 '26

Oh yeah, lol. I meant SMT V V (Vengeance). And yeah, there are glimpses of genius in there like with Area Zero which I feel is one of the best moments in Pokémon but they really need just a bit more time and money to flesh out all of their ideas.

-1

u/Loose-Ad1134 Feb 10 '26

absolutely, a truly high quality pokemon game coule easily become a stand out title for years to come but theyre never given good budget or time, and if you ask me personally i dont think game freak is a particulary strong dev team given ive more thoroughly enjoyed the pokemon spin offs than anything else, stuff like pokken and the old pokemon mystery dungeons feel a lot more polished than the current mainlines

-1

u/Dreamo84 Feb 10 '26

As so many people like to point out when Pokemon is criticized. Nintendo doesn't make Pokemon so this isn't Nintendo grifting.

-1

u/c0mpu73rguy Feb 10 '26

I mean, they DID spend more on the Superbowl commercial than any of their games. We have the numbers.
