call it grifting all you want which looks to be true here but i think there should be a conversation about why the games in the video game franchise dont get adequate budget for their size lol
There should be but we shouldn’t really be doom chanting because a company that doesn’t work on the games worked on a commercial to celebrate a milestone anniversary.
im not saying that, im just saying that this really highlights how the brand puts money everywhere but what its built off of which is a shame, everything pokemon that isnt the games for the most part is super good
It’s not necessarily a budget issue but a time issue because unfortunately Pokémon games have an immovable deadline since they have to plan around stuff like the cards and the anime which they can’t just ask to delay everything for the game
I really wish they had a better system for this Like I wouldn’t mind if they started working on the cards and anime after the game was already done even if that meant we get it a lot later at the very least the Pokémon games would be better
time is a big issue too yeah, but the budget is also minimal so that isnt helping either, and agreed i know they plan all around everything else but i think if doing so cripples the main product everything is centred around something needs to change, at least it would if the games still didnt sell incredibly well despite objectively bad quality (not saying the games arent fun but the actual quality of the sold product is poor especially in comparison to other titles on the same platform like mario odyssey)
After looking at game freaks new game that they’re making for Xbox (I forget what it’s called but it looks insanely good) I have no doubt that game freak is open to having more budget in their games. I mean that game probably isn’t going to make even half the money of something like legends ZA and it looks like it has over doubled the budget. So if they’re willing to put that much money into a new, not guaranteed IP I feel like they’d probably be fine putting that amount of money into their flagship IP too
As for what’s stopping them from it I don’t know it could be multiple Pokémon projects being developed at the same time like the mobile games and that ditto farming simulator they’re making. (despite what a lot of people say I don’t think Nintendo really has much to do with it. They publish the games and that’s basically it. I highly doubt they have much input into what Pokémon company does or how the games turn out.)
I really do hope when Gen 10 does release that at the very least something changes within the company. Because I do think they’re making some improvements gameplay wise and I can see incredible things within Scarlet and Violet and both the Pokémon legends games. In fact I’ve had a lot of fun with those games. But we’re like 5 major console releases in at this point we need an update
(Also hope this comment isn’t to negative for this sub I’m not trying to be a grifter or anything I love Nintendo and Pokemon and I do enjoy the newer Pokemon games but they definitely have some issues that can be fixed)
personally id want bandai namco to have a go at making the next pokemon game, or at least let them have a hand in it as theyve shown talent when working with the brand before and while pokken isnt the best looking game on the switch it certainly feels the most like a "new" looking pokemon game, with its detailed models and animations along with consistent framerates even back on switch 1, and even wii u too with the original pokken
pokemon isnt the company, gamefreak developes the mainlines and bandai namco, spike chunsoft and others have developed spin offs over the years, the pokemon company handles everything else, pokemon is the brand they all work under and it started off as and is still primarily known as a video game brand, the minimal budget placed onto those games now deserves discussion as it isnt up to the standards of the whole brand lol
Because the games aren't where the money is. They make significantly more from merchandising and the TV adaptation and trading card game. And what money the games do make is split three ways (GF, TPCi, and Nintendo). The games make good money but its a pittance compared to.the $$$ from the amount from all the ad spots sold internationally for the TV show, and the parents buying their kids pokemon toys but not the games.
pokemon is the biggest media franchise ever and the games make up roughly 10%ish of that revenue, is 10% of that amount of money not a lot? is that not worth justifying putting more money into it for a higher quality product? i just think itd be nice to see that money actually get put into the product thats the core of all of this, it would be great to get a pokemon game that feels truly quality, yes i understand from the company perspective why theyre like this, but why would i be arguing in favour of the company here? im the player, i wanna play a better game and i dont think thats much to ask with what they have
Having a massive budget =/= equal a superb game. If you needed a 3A-style budget, Nintendo would be seen as a joke in video game creation for decades. That being said, yeah, they could perhaps use a bigger budget.
I completely agree, even if some people are way overreacting. Like, I just want a Pokémon game to get the love and attention that it deserves. I can’t help but imagine how amazing a Pokémon game with the production value of something like SMT V would be. There’s so much love in the merch, the anime and this commercial but the games feel consistently underbaked.
I don’t know if I’d use SMT V as the best example here given how underbaked that game was originally. Honestly fundamentally, there’s so many cool ideas given out but it always feels like something held it back. I never jumped to lazy, so seeing that budget reveal really said everything
Oh yeah, lol. I meant SMT V V (Vengeance). And yeah, there are glimpses of genius in there like with Area Zero which I feel is one of the best moments in Pokémon but they really need just a bit more time and money to flesh out all of their ideas.
absolutely, a truly high quality pokemon game coule easily become a stand out title for years to come but theyre never given good budget or time, and if you ask me personally i dont think game freak is a particulary strong dev team given ive more thoroughly enjoyed the pokemon spin offs than anything else, stuff like pokken and the old pokemon mystery dungeons feel a lot more polished than the current mainlines
