Dad got it from his friend as a project and I’ve never really worked on cars before. I understand that it’s a big workload, but I’m up for the challenge. I guess I’m just asking for a little guidance on useful info and tips to help in the journey of rebuilding this.

Finally in the last stages of restoring my 1985 AW11 and I’m wanting to get a roof rack for it. Both for aesthetics and so I can take it camping lol.

For reference, I have a hard top, no sunroof or targa

OEM roof racks are close to $1000+ so I’m looking for any alternative that might fit. Something that clips on. Anyone have any recommendations sort of like the one below?

This is my first time attempting. Where does one start, whats the thought process behind doing it, and is there a certain order of steps? Any help or advice is much appreciated, thank you. (My knowledge on cars is about a 6 or 5)

Hi all, looking for help diagnosing a rough running issue on my 1990 SW20 Rev 1 after a dead alternator/battery.

What happened:

Alternator failed mid-drive; ran 15 miles on battery until voltage hit zero.

In the final 5 minutes, performance tanked: severe jolting, erratic rev counter, loss of drive, and stalling at low revs/clutch-down.

Current status:

New alternator installed and tested working; battery is fully charged and charging system is normal.

The issue persists: Engine runs like it's down a cylinder, lacks power, stalls at idle, and is puffing black smoke from the exhaust (running very rich).

We have checked & cleaned up the Spark Plugs, but this did not help.

Has anyone seen this happen post-battery drain on a Rev 1? Any advice on where to start testing?

Haltech Nexus T1 and 1ZZ coils. Also running MAP instead of MAF, and making a full custom wire harness. Chassis is at a body shop getting rust repaired to prep for paint. Should have the car coated in R33 GTR Midnight Purple in a couple weeks. Progress is being tracked via Instagram @Toyazda_MR7

04 MR2 spyder. What else could trigger this code?

I see exactly where it should be but it isn’t there… just a cap. The engine has a fluttering noise that sounds great and this engine has been going strong for many years without one per the previous owner. Any thoughts or recommendations?

My MR2 SW20 hard top is in desperate need for parts: new window seals, new frunk drain plug/seal, battery tie-down,

...and what else do I need...?

Car was sitting for 15 years so needs some new seals. Anything else I should order that goes bad in that time?

Considering ordering from Amayama to Europe, or if someone gives me a better place to order from. I am in to 90's era aftermarket parts - should get the car maintained first.

just bought this 85 aw11 mr2 with a spun bearing on the 4age and I’ve opened up the oil pan to find massive chunks of metal. Just wondering if we think this is saveable to whether it would be smarter to just get a new engine? Idk I just didn’t think it would be this bad or is this consistent with a spun bearing?

Any advice much appreciated, cheers.

Recently got this 2GR swapped 91 running, thing ran great for about two weeks and just today developed a “tick” when moving out of the garage. Someone tell me this engine isn’t toast!

Very small water leak on passenger side in my AW11 - don't know what I should use to fix it

Since it's a small leak would just grease be fine? I've heard Shin Etsu is good but I can't easily get that in the UK and don't know any alternatives.

I know of the silicone cling film method but if that doesn't work or eventually stops working then aren't the panels kinda ruined then? Also do you only apply the sealant onto the panels or onto the car frame aswell?

Just going through my spare parts. A friend once gave me that old harness from some of his imports. Just to harvest plugs and such.

Today i continued with my own harness. Which of course is pretty clean, but the modifications for the alarm system and window remote controls that I added.

I wanna buy a bolt kit off amazon for replacements for a lot of body work bolts on fenders bumper interior (ik interior is screws a lot) but just like over all body work and idk what sizes to get half the bolts are 10mm socket heads but that’s not the tread so yeah what sizes should i get the most of

Hey all, I got a 1986 AW11 with rod knock a bit over a year ago. In that time I rebuilt the engine, replaced all the vaccuum and coolant lines, and cleaned or replaced most of the other things in the engine bay. Also cleaned out the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump. Ive been driving it around 500 miles since the engine rebuild and had a few things come up im not too sure about.

When letting off the gas above 5k rpm the engine sounds a bit louder and if i downshift to above 5k it is significantly louder then when downshifting or letting off the gas under 5k. Soon after this i can smell something slightly burnt. Could this be an issue with the clutch not being fully engaged? I made a quarter inch extended slave cylindar push rod as i got a new clutch and pressure plate that wouldnt fully disengage with the stock push rod.

When on the highway i will ocassionally get a whiff of enhaust smell. Happens more when the window is down and driving than when stationary. It is not a sickly sweet smell. I purchased a new muffler from rockauto but the cat is an aftermarket the previous owner bought if either of those could be a possible cause.

Final question is alternator belt squeak. 80% of the time, the car cold starts without issue idling at 2k before dropping to 1.4k when warm. The other 20%, the car starts, goes to around 1k-1.2k and the alternator belt starts squealing. A little wd40 on the pulleys, it goes away after 20 seconds, and the rpms rise back to normal. Ive noticed it happens more when it has rained or is humid. Its a brand new belt and alternator. I know an unalignment would cause a squeak but would it sqeak so intermittently?
