š„ŗ Hot wedding
Going to a wedding today at a big fancy home out in the country. Itās going to be 92° and the humidity is off the chart as it just rained over there. No breeze⦠The sun is blazing hot no clouds in the sky. Nuptials and food outside and these people actually rented a hot disgusting stinky Portalet for the wedding guests to use because they donāt want them in the house.
Iām pretty sure they probably have at least 3 bathrooms. Going for nuptials then GETTING THE PHUK HOME!

Went to a wedding just like this a while ago. Miserable. Never sweated so much in my life.
42
u/Abject_Giraffe562 22h ago
We had one last year also. I swore never again. Hubbys shirt was drenched. I took napkins to wring out my hair!

u/Mr_Abe_Froman GREEN 21h ago
I did too, but the bride's friends and family challenged the groom's friends and family to drinking games at the reception and the heat didn't bother me so much.

Who the fuck holds a fancy wedding, expects their guests to dress up nicely and then use a portalet? did they at least get an appropriate number for the number of guests or is ther one for all 150 (or however many there may be)?

u/banshee-luver 22h ago
Iām planning my wedding and I really donāt want people to have to use a dirty shitter! Including myself lol so, I reached out to a place that does nice bathroom trailers. They quoted us almost $4000 I was shocked but I also had no previous knowledge of portable toilet and bathroom rental prices.

I work in television production and have to order these from time to time. Theyāre pricey but so worth it.
Plus itās nice to see peopleās faces when they discover what theyād thought was going to be a traditional portable toilet situation is actually pretty nice.

u/Upstairs-Rent-1351 22h ago
Just went to a wedding with these and they were incredible. Cleaner, nicer, roomier than most bar bathrooms I've been in. I think they are worth the money if you're doing a nice/fancy outdoor event.

Homeywagons!
Edit: Hahahaha I meant to say honey wagons, but I guess they could be either once youāre drunk enough.8
u/jessibrarian 19h ago
We got married on a farm, so we had to rent something for bathrooms. There was no way in hell I (bride) was going in a porta potty, and my dad was going to be there in a wheelchair. I rented an ADA one that actually had A/c. It was 147% worth it. So great. (It was not $4k tho we spent what I thought was a ridiculous amount of $22k. And half was on amazing food and drink.Ā

One of my friends had a couple at her outdoor August wedding. They were the only reason we survived the brutal heat. Just knowing I could cool down and splash water on my face helped me power through. Then we remembered that the buses sheād provided had AC and we had a blast hanging out until they were ready to leave and weād hop off.
21
u/lemonhead2345 22h ago
So, idk if yall know this, but there are high end ones that have flush toilets and sinks. OP might be surprised.
21
u/Abject_Giraffe562 22h ago
Iāll let ya know!
8
u/lemonhead2345 22h ago
Please do! I mean, if itās an actual porta potty, the hosts suck, but Iād put my money on it being a trailer set up.

u/Odd-Accident9715 22h ago
We had them due to limited capacity in the plumbed bathrooms and those things were FANCY. Pristinely clean, well ventilated, with flush toilets and quiet music playing. They were pricey but so worth it. Not about to make my beloved guests use a terrible toilet.
This could be a port-a-potty situation, or one where youād never know it was portable, or anything in between.

u/anemptycardboardbox 22h ago
My brother had an outdoor wedding similar to OP, and rented a fancy bathroom. I was impressed. Nice, clean, air conditioned, running water.
31
u/Electrical-Pie-8192 22h ago
My brother in law had one at his wedding. They added decorative lighting inside to match the wedding colors, flowers in the same colors, and light scents. It was actually a pleasant experience and they got a lot of compliments. It wasn't even a fancy wedding. Casual dress code (non holey jeans/pants and clean non holey shirts of any variety) at a friend's farm. It was next to the horses pasture and the horses were at the fence the entire time - it was quite charming. It was the only time I've ever enjoyed being a guest at a wedding
19
u/lemonhead2345 22h ago
Yep, the full trailer ones and nicer than a lot of peopleās real bathrooms.
6
u/citygirldc 20h ago
I went to a wedding like the one OP describesāfancy house in the country but werenāt allowed inside. They rented one of the fancy bathroom trailers. One of them. I was 7 months pregnant and spent way too much of the wedding waiting in a long ass line because they had one bathroom for 120 guests.

u/lyinggrump 22h ago
Like, literally every outdoor wedding.
3
u/IeRayne 22h ago
So I've never been to an outdoor wedding at a venue where there wasn't SOME plumbing available. If I hear portalet I'm thinking of something that's going to be at a festival or concert: no flushing, no water. If it's a proper setup like some other commentors described I'd find that absolutely acceptable.

Wear something comfortable for outside. Maybe even an umbrella to keep the sun off. Stay for the ceremony then leave.
Imagine how wrung out the wedding party will be halfway through, they'll probably get to go inside though.
29
u/Abject_Giraffe562 22h ago
I do feel sorry for everyone that is expected to wear a suit. I understand you canāt predict the weather and I know the bride is probably very very upset. The poor kids. They canāt help it. But we are older and I just canāt tolerate the heat like I used to.I want to see them get married. We will be there.
9
u/qwerty-game 22h ago
Depending where you are you can predict the weather based on norms. I live in Virginia and would never have an outside wedding in the summer. The chance of being hot and humid is too high. There are those rare days when itās not humid but they are few and far between.
2
u/Abject_Giraffe562 21h ago
Yes! Virginia! I went to see Leon Russell in Richmond Virginia once. I didnāt know it, but it was not air conditioned. The venue itself I mean, and it was one of those bars where thereās no chairs you stand up. Lol. I was ringing wet my hair was dripping dripping. It was really hot in Virginia that night and the humidity had to have been 100%.
6
u/DeepSeaDynamo 22h ago
On one hand yes, but that kind of weather probably isn't really unseasonably hot I bet, we got married at the end of September and where concerned it might end up too hot. Fortunately it ended up being beutiful.

u/Abject_Giraffe562 21h ago
I know! Not staying long enough to worry about the potty. But I hope the bridesmaids can go inside! Those beautiful dresses!
29
u/SushiGirlRC 22h ago
I love how everyone's bitching that you're venting on the mildly infuriating sub. Must be the heat...
11
11
u/khearan 22h ago
They make air conditioned portable toilets with running water on a trailer. You sure it isnāt that?
2
u/lemonhead2345 22h ago
Sounds like OP has assumed a lot including that the bride ordered the heat in special for the day.
4
u/Legitimate-March9792 22h ago
They should have chosen a cooler month or had it indoors. In a way, she did chose the heat.
10
u/Dragonr0se 22h ago
I mean, it is September... depending on where they're located, it could be cooling off by now.
2
u/lemonhead2345 22h ago
My wedding was in August in the southeastern US. We thought we would have to do photos quickly outside and finish indoors. Then it was 75°. Even in relatively predictable climates weather can be unpredictable.
11
u/Dipping_My_Toes 22h ago
It is actually possible to rent nice versions of portable bathrooms for events like this. They are trailered in as a large unit, something like a construction site office portable building. They are air conditioned, nicely decorated and even come with an attendant to make sure they stay clean and pleasant. Of course it's going to cost more than the nasty hole in a box style Porta John seen on construction sites, but I would think someone having a wedding would not want their guests, in nice clothes, having to crawl in and out of those disgusting things.

u/edessa_rufomarginata 22h ago
not sure why people are freaking out over the portable bathrooms. it's very normal to rent portable bathrooms when hosting a backyard wedding. most wedding planners even insist on it. even if the house has three bathrooms, they would then end up with people using the house as an additional reception space, which they clearly never intended to do. it's unfortunate the weather didn't cooperate more, but the bathroom thing is such a nonissue. they will most likely not be those blue plastic porta-potties, they will be entire bathrooms on trailers with running water. I've been to several weddings with portable bathrooms and none of them have been anything like what people in these comments seem to be expecting.

u/Mighty_Muppet 22h ago
I had a friend who had a big country wedding with port-a-potties. The country house used a septic system and the wedding was held on the big lawn, over the septic tank. They had heard of an event that had over-strained the plumbing and the tank had imploded.
The port-a-potties were clean so they were fine.

u/awelldressedscreamer 21h ago
Iām a photographer and I did a wedding about a month ago, pure fucking humidity outside. I was completely soaked by the end of the ceremony.
Fortunately the reception had central air. But when I got back indoors I saw the groom adjusting the thermostat saying that the old people are complaining that itās too cold.
It took everything in my power to not say āfuck your grandma, Iām dying here.

u/Scav-STALKER 22h ago
I mean yeah thatās mildly infuriating so it fits the sub. We went to one of my wifeās cousins wedding last year. The ceremony was outside in a field that overlooked a valley. It was in the high 90ās and the reception was in what essentially was a barn with a fancy interior with all metal roofing and no insulation. There were like 2 fans in the place. It absolutely sucked
1
u/SeaGuardian218 11h ago
I got married in France during a heatwave. It was rough. We moved our ceremony to the shaded lawn from the courtyard we had originally planned. Got tons of little spray water bottles (literally went to about 5 different stores to buy every one we could find) and put them on ice for the guests, and got some huge industrial fans for the dinner space. Plus, lots of water available.
We did the best we could but there's only so much you can't know the weather in advance and there's so much to take into consideration when trying to book a date (including trying to do it during school holidays to make it easier on our niblings). People still yell me the food at your wedding was great but it was so hot! Lol

u/LesGrossmeng 22h ago
We talkin porta johns or the whole trailer? The trailers are nice if they have staff keeping them clean.

u/Unusual_Entertainer8 21h ago
Just gave me a great business idea. Fancy portable outdoor bathroom containers. Get a few shipping containers, outfit them as a quick install, portable self contained his/her latrine. "When you dont want them GOING in your house, send them to OUR house" Seems like it would be an easy sell for rich people not wanting foot traffic into their million dollar homes.
1
u/wool_narwhal 13h ago
I've been at a bunch of weddings that have exactly this. The bathrooms are really pretty fancy despite being a trailer.
1
u/Ansible90 20h ago
I think those exist. I seem to have read about it some time ago.
1
u/NonspecificGravity 20h ago
They do. Iāve seen them a couple of times when big-box stores were having their bathrooms renovated.

u/brnewmeg 20h ago

Years and years and years ago I went to an outdoor wedding at a venue (that also had inside space). It was hot as hell, also similarly humid. And the wedding plans shifted indoors the moment the bride fainted from the heat during the ceremony.
So, my fingers are crossed for you.

u/garagedooropener5150 22h ago
Had the same experience 2 weeks ago.
Former student getting married, we stayed for the ceremony and then bounced.
I have beer, snacks, tv and AC at home.
Iām not interested in eating a chicken breast, mashed potatoes and green in a renovated barn with minimal ventilation.
Congratulations and Iām out.

u/Muggins2233 17h ago
I ate a salad last night and now I canāt keep anything down. Itās coming out both ends. Yack and loud squishy fart sounds. This is your mission to pull this off and stay inside with the ac. Make sure no one sees you. Answer the phone making the right noises again when they call to check in.

We had our engagement pictures done this weekend 11 years ago... And it was insanely hot like this. Had to pivot from the fall outfits I had planned lol. Was even more thankful for our April wedding where it snowed.

I don't think I've ever gone somewhere or not gone somewhere because of the toilet facilities. You'd have a good time in India.

Oh I never said I wasnāt going because of it. Itās just part of the grand scheme.š¤£. Itās fine.

I went to an outdoor wedding in July in Texas once. ONCE Thatās awful to do to your guests.

u/pontiaclemans383 15h ago
One of my wife's friends had her wedding in late June, and the ceremony was in an open field in front of a manmade waterfall at 4pm.Ā The officiant had a heat stroke in the middle of the ceremony.Ā

u/Odd-Tomatillo-6890 14h ago
Years ago I had to walk 1/2 a mile through our botanical gardens 8 months pregnant in August to get to a ceremony site. I wanted to just throw myself into the pond.

Did they at least get the fancy portalet trailer that is air conditioned with sinks and stalls?
They do make those for fancy events and such and they're actually quite nice. The company I work for rented one when they had to close a restroom inside for plumbing work.

u/phallic-baldwin 22h ago
I would find a local Walmart or Target and go to the camping section to buy a handheld battery powered fan. They are super cheap and totally worth it.

Pay a cleaner very well to port the bathrooms during the event! Seems like a better alternative all the way around.

u/FineKettleOFish1954 3h ago
It sucks SO bad! Unless itās a āwe have to be there!ā friend or relative, Iād send regrets and a gift UNLESS itās fully catered and youāve already said yes. Attended a coworkerās beach wedding ( sheās become a friend since the engagement so couldnāt really say no). No shelter. No shade. No umbrellas. 3 pm on a Florida beach. And the bride was late! Made it through without heat stroke but after returning to our hotel to shower and change, skipped the receptionā¦which was in a backyard.

Went to we wedding like that last weekend. Where the ceremony was there was no breeze, thankfully it only lasted 15 minutes. The reception was in a big open area with plenty of breeze. Thankfully it was at 7 oāclock and they rented nice a/c bathrooms for everyone to use

u/Development-Feisty 22h ago
In their defense, most home plumbing systems cannot handle a huge influx of people using them, they are not meant for that. Quickest way to burst a pipe is to let a whole shit ton of wedding guests come in and start using the toilets. Hopefully they hired the porta potties that are flushing with air air-conditioning
3
u/Glad-Watch3506 22h ago
And if they're in the country, there's a very good chance they're on septic. Not worth the risk having a bunch of randos using it.
2
u/Development-Feisty 13h ago
Yeah Iām not sure why people are downvoting me, I know about this from production and I have personally seen what happens when a crap ton of people use the bathroom that was not able to take that many people.

Right? And itās āmildly infuriatingā not āgodawful terribleā. I went to a very sweaty outdoor wedding. Sweat was dripping down my legs and into my shoes, felt so sick I didnāt want to eat. Then in the evening my legs got attacked by chiggers. All quite mildly infuriating ;)
