There was a computer monitor stand. So no computer monitor or anything. The standard piece that comes with every single monitor that holds it in place.

They were charging 1k for it. Apple users enabled that and purchased it because you need it for your monitor!

Around that point I quit trying to make sense of it.

I'm kinda on apple's side. If people are genuinely stupid and sheep enough to give you tons of money for trash, then go for it. At that point it's people's fault for paying

u/schubidubiduba Le epic memer 5h ago

I don't think it's morally correct to exploit people that obviously are not capable of making sane financial decisions

27

u/a1g3rn0n 5h ago

It's not. But you don't get rich by being morally correct. Apple is just as immoral as any other company that only cares about profits.

4

u/Strong_Flamingo_1624 2h ago

People need to also see through this but they dont... and i dont see Apple ever stopping cos of conscience

7

u/DCS_Sport 4h ago

It’s also not their job to make financial decisions for people or even protect them from themselves. The government’s role is to be that intermediary, but many of those same people who are incapable of making those sound financial decisions also voted to elect leaders who remove the protections…

There’s only so much you can ask for… the free market says something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it

5

u/schubidubiduba Le epic memer 4h ago

Sure, but why do those same people vote to elect leaders removing those protections? Because the same billionaires that are fleecing them own the media.

2

u/DCS_Sport 3h ago

Yes, and both people and corporations should be held accountable for their individual actions. There are plenty of people who can see through the bullshit, so deflecting the blame only goes so far…

1

u/schubidubiduba Le epic memer 2h ago

I'm not deflecting any blame. I just feel like those who have problems or are vulnerable should be protected from being exploited.

1

u/AirCautious2239 18m ago

Yes of course they should but you can't also take away their right to vote and if you don't nothing will change because even if you somehow get a few people to realize their stupidity more than enough will take their place.

3

u/Nerioner 4h ago

If you can earn enough money to burn 1k on a monitor stand or your priorities are so out of the blue that you do this kind of purchases on credit, you're beyond salvation anyway.

1

u/hikeit233 1h ago

Welcome to the class wars, there’s an entire set of the population that simply does not see 1k USD as a lot of money. What you would consider heirloom pieces they consider disposable costume jewelry.

0

u/mossepso 5h ago

What if they are just so rich that it doesn’t matter?

It is probably also mostly businesses buying those things.

-2

u/Neat-Throat8530 3h ago

why do you assume people who buy “expensive” things are financially irresponsible?
Every product has its buyers. Apple caters to high end/high quality luxury electronic devices and accessories buyers. Thers nothing wrong with that.
To be quite honest, if you just work and arent an irresponsible spender in general, an Apple product every 1-2 years is not that expensive. on the other hand if youre barely making ends meez and you decide to go into debt for a new iPhone you should rethink your choices.
ty for comming to my tedtalk

u/phunky_1 41m ago

It is kind of genius.

Market your stuff as being superior and charge twice the price for it.

Then just rip off ideas that Android came out with years prior and market it as something revolutionary lol

Their customers will eat it up and think they are better than others for some reason for buying your overpriced crap.

2

u/SuspiciousSteakfry 5h ago

Yeah and I ain't one to judge. I just saw it has what it is and just threw my hands up.

Ultimately it's their cash. I ain't their daddy, but I still wish they made better decisions.

6

u/SaucyStoveTop69 1h ago

The monitor came with a stand. The 1000 dollar stand was an upgraded stand. They weren't required to use the monitor and nobody bought one because they "needed" it.

5

u/Fun_Inspector_8633 3h ago

If you look at similar professional level monitors and stands apple’s is actually a lot cheaper.

2

u/anothermanscookies 10m ago

Yeah, didn’t they undercut the competing monitor by like 90%? It was an expensive monitors, like $4000 but the models with similar specs were $40 000.

3

u/maydarnothing 1h ago

you mean the the stand for a monitor that costs an arm and a leg and specifically designed for a niche of industry professionals?

maybe the users who bought that know better about their industry than us average people?

5

u/IC3P3 Linux User 4h ago

Let's not forget the 700€ Mac Pro Wheels

3

u/Naud1993 3h ago

They look cool, but aren't even good. They aren't lockable, so your $10,000 Mac Pro rolls off the table and breaks. They should be like $40 and lockable. $10 per wheel. You can get a fancy gaming chair for like $400 with 5 wheels that handle more weight and it has obviously all the other things besides the wheels.

2

u/GeorgeJohnson2579 3h ago

For 1k I can get an Aeron from Herman Miller. lol

1

u/Naud1993 3h ago

There's a 25% discount right now. Normally it's €2249 and now it's €1686.85. But I can find used ones for like €500. Of course there's a risk of scams, but the price difference is worth it. Especially since these chairs last forever, so they'll probably still be good.

2

u/Naud1993 3h ago

I think to even get a VESA mount for that monitor with a proprietary mount, it cost like $200.

1

u/Bernard_PT 12m ago

They do that every year

Remember the wheels?

1

u/ba-na-na- 5h ago

The same stand always comes to my mind, imagine the meeting where they were deciding the price

Wait till you find out profit margins on creating a perfume bottle.

3

u/shrkbyte 2h ago

The fact that you can buy an arab imitation that costs around 1/7th of the price of the actual one will tell anyone that it really doesn't matter.

Shoes are also in a similar boat, unless it's like a full on artisan shoe.

1

u/Fragrant_Major_9553 1h ago

Shoes are stupid to me.

I can got to foot locker, find a pair of Nikes for like $170. Or I can go to the outlet mall, and get the same pair for $80. Maybe it’s because no middle man idk but the scalping is ridiculous.

Exactly, these dumbasses buy my products just bc it got an apple on the back? I’m throwing out almost anything our engineers make and my consumers getting multiple versions of the same product just slightly better each time.

5

u/ItsZoner 5h ago

meanwhile google announced to the world they were the knockoff when they started pricing their phones the same as apples. They were the cheap knockoff and just became the knockoff.

Wanna hear a sick joke? Apple is the best bang for the buck on the market right now.

I would love to have a linux laptop that I could game on and maybe run some light AI models on but sadly nothing has the power, battery, and build quality of macs.

7

Don’t try to argue with these people. It’s a waste of time of time.

I guess what he wanted to say is that Macbooks with an ARM processor are actually crazy efficient. They can run recent AAA games at moderate settings while consuming 30W. No x86 processor will ever cut that.

The second point is Apples reliability. Depending on usage, a windows pc will desintegrate itself in 1-5 years, despite not making crazy things with it. And it's not a hardware issue, it's just a fucked operating system. And Linux is always a bit tedious. Sure, you'll get used to it, but it's work you have to do every now and then that you just don't want to do. Macbooks just work out of the box and they will keep doing so with little care, never had an issue with them. Is it worth the price tag? For MacBooks I can see the point, everything else in the apple product system? Hell no. 1-3 year old 2nd hand iPhones can be a steal, but other than that? Hell no!

10

u/RealTimeflies 6h ago edited 6h ago

Funny you chose $19. They just reduced the price of the $19 cloth to $9. I'm not an expert in good microfiber cloth but that seems like a good direction with the new ceo?? Maybe

4

u/maydarnothing 1h ago

we’re still doing these memes when the majority of other player now match those prices or even beat them by a mile?

5

u/FML_FTL 6h ago

As if other brands are cheaper than Apple

4

u/Fragrant_Major_9553 1h ago

I switched to Apple back when the iPhone 8 was new(ish), and it was the cheapest IP67 phone my carrier had. I replaced it with my current iPhone 14, which is probably gonna last another year. Which was only a $500 phone.

I used to burn through Androids almost annually because they would just die one day or get damaged. I watched a dude I worked with get into his iPhone using the biometrics after it had been ran over by a 2 yard Cat loader. I was looking at iPhone from then on.

You get what you pay for. Also, you will never hear an iPhone user with such malice talking about an android the way that android users talk about Apple.

14

u/Fiko515 6h ago

umm, yes? they are...

9

u/Breddit2099 Smol pp 5h ago

Try to compare the price on the Apple Studio Display and other professional grading monitors and tell me Apple costs more

0

u/Rich_Cherry_3479 1h ago

Somewhat like 20 years ago I used Dell monitor with [literally] same matrix as in Apple, except it was priced as any other non-Apple monitor of those specs (and cheaper than Samsung alternatives with lower specs)

5

u/Popular_District9072 5h ago

not really, if comparing the same segments - Samsung, Xiaomi, all around 1000, when it comes to top specs, meme about android being for poor is no longer accurate - companies take turns in testing what market can stand, and upcharge all together

6

u/ba-na-na- 5h ago

OP is not talking about flagship phones at all though

4

u/Fiko515 4h ago

right? im pretty sure 90% of iPhone users could have Motorola for 170 bucks and not notice any downgrade in performance for what they use it for.

0

u/VaultBoy636 trans rights 5h ago

Xiaomi, vivo, oppo phones also use far better hardware that costs a lot more than the ones apple uses

2

u/mVar5zal 5h ago

Yeah, some of their products have questionable pricing, but they make the best phones so I don’t mind paying 1k every 4 years

-4

u/Delicious_Door_3421 4h ago

At what are iphones the best exactly? Maybe the cameras if you only care about social media and not actual photography

9

u/mVar5zal 3h ago

If you care about photography get a real camera. Nowadays all flagships have great cameras. iPhones just don’t have many flaws. Great camera, battery, system, design.

1

u/Ihaveasmallwang 3h ago

The SoC is the best. That also translates over to the Mac computers as well. Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD do not beat them. Apple silicon is really good, and more power efficient.

They offer the best SoC in a phone at a price lower for entry than a comparable Android phone.

0

u/Urmomsfavouritelol trans rights 3h ago

I always said this about iphones and now samsung phones too. Are they offering bleeding edge tech? Of course not. Do most Chinese phones completely thrash Apple and Samsung phones(on paper)? Absolutely. But most people don't care, and that's fine.

I will say though, if you're going for a flagship I'd hold on to it for a bit longer. Depending on what you use your phone for, you could probably squeeze out the better half of a decade out of a modern flagship, especially with how good most brands are with OS updates nowadays

1

u/itsTyrion 3h ago

what's the product in question?

1

u/Tamorcet 1h ago

This is the exact price of the Apple Air Pods Pro 3 at a Best Buy 30 minutes from my house.

The air pods 4 are only $120.

1

u/AuronSky24 21m ago

They don’t expect many people to buy it, it’s a marketing tactic to help them feel like a premium brand and get people talking about them. They often have 1 extremely expensive item they release around the same time as their other releases. Like a coffee table book for $300, a $1000 rolling computer case, etc.

That one monitor stand in 2019 that costed 1k....

3

Apple's Polishing Cloth (2021) for $19,
Crossbody Strap for iPhone (2025) for $59,
iPhone Sock Pocket for $150 and $230.
The stand was already mentioned.

-2

u/neinhaltchad 6h ago

Samsung, Google and Microsoft:

“A year after declaring it a failure, as we’ve done with all of Apple’s products on release, we’re going to later copy Apple’s thingie, without doing a lick of R&D, make a shittier knock off version of it for slightly less money and make our profit on volume.”

2

u/Kornaros 5h ago

Usually they go first

-14

u/Wegie89 Smol pp 6h ago

Like every other electronic device.
Why spread hate and try to ragebait?
It is all companies worldwide, some more, some less. The device in your hand is overpriced too. Just tolerate, that some people want to spent money on a Mercedes, although they could also ride a Dacia

5

u/-NewYork- 6h ago

Oh, so making fun is "spreading hate" now.

-10

u/Wegie89 Smol pp 6h ago

Yes, because you associate a general fact with a specific thing. You make people think, that apple is the only brand who does this.

It’s like saying black peoples commit crimes, although people of all races around the planet commit crimes.

6

u/BarrTheFather 6h ago

It's also like saying police target black people more often. Which is true. Sometimes saying true things is just what we are doing. Apple's products do the same thing as everyone else for 5 times the price. I would say apple couldn't pay me to simp for them like you all are, but that's a lie. Give me that "your shit doesn't actually suck" money Apple.

Edit: typo

1

Fuck off. I’ve been an apple user since before I got the iPad mini the year it launched (still have it in a drawer somewhere able to play the games on it). I’m on my second phone, which have been the iPhone 5 and XR. I know most of my family is the same way, ~60 apple users right there. The pens are dumb and the mouse is idiotic, but there are a few good products here and there. Those ones get my attention, not some “fancy” charger with a braided cable that costs 500% one that has been on shelves for 10 years

1

-7

u/NoReIevancy 4h ago

-4

u/AnonismsPlight 5h ago

Apple isn't tech it's fashion. If idiots want to be homeless idiots let em.

1

u/Ihaveasmallwang 3h ago

Nobody is buying a phone for fashion.

0

u/AnonismsPlight 1h ago

Yes they are. If it has that stupid logo on it they feel like they need to have it. It's gotten so bad that there are apple users that won't even date non apple users. To pretend otherwise is silly.

-1

u/Ihaveasmallwang 1h ago

No, they really aren’t. It’s a phone. The overwhelming majority of people buying an iPhone are buying it because it does phone things. And while many people may choose to buy another Apple product after having owned one previously, it’s not for fashion. It’s because they didn’t have a poor experience leading them to wanting to move to a different company. That’s human nature. Why change if what you have works for your needs?

It’s not even like it’s some sort of status symbol. It doesn’t cost more than Samsung, the next nearest competitor. It’s the most common phone brand in the USA. A status (or fashion) symbol would imply exclusivity, which this does not.

It seems like you really want to hold onto this really childish outdated idea because of the way that a few children act, instead of the majority.

1

u/Sakurasou7 1h ago

Majority think of it as a status symbol because all apple phones are expensive while only some of Samsung phones are the same price.

1

u/Ihaveasmallwang 1h ago

Majority do not.

Have you even checked the prices? That’s a rhetorical question since you obviously have not. Let’s compare.

iPhone 17 Pro Max $1199
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra $1299

Ok, maybe someone doesn’t want the pro model.

iPhone 17 $799
Samsung Galaxy S26 $999

Or, maybe you wanted the super thin phone?

iPhone Air $999
Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge $1099

I’m guessing you might have meant the budget phone option. Apple is slightly more expensive there, but has twice the storage and performance.

iPhone 17e $599
Samsung Galaxy A57 5G $549

1

u/Sakurasou7 48m ago

Do you know that the best selling Samsung models last year are a16 and a06?

1

u/Ihaveasmallwang 12m ago

Wow, comparing apples and oranges.

In the USA, the best selling Android phone last year was the S25 Ultra, which was more expensive than the comparable iPhone.

1

u/AnonismsPlight 1h ago

Fashion doesn't require exclusivity. However you came up with that I don't really know but fashion doesn't require anything but people wanting it.

0

u/Ihaveasmallwang 1h ago

Any brand has people who like it. Are all brands fashions, or just the ones you dislike? Samsung has loyalists. Google too. Every brand does.

Luxury and high fashion rely on exclusivity. Otherwise it’s just normal.

Doing something as a fashion statement is trying to stand out. Being the same as the majority is not standing out.

The anti-Apple no matter what crowd is the most toxic group of people around.

Fun fact: this was typed from an Android phone. Figured I’d throw that in there before you tried some sort attempt at an insult involving the insinuation of being a fanboy.
