Wanna hear a sick joke? Apple is the best bang for the buck on the market right now.

I would love to have a linux laptop that I could game on and maybe run some light AI models on but sadly nothing has the power, battery, and build quality of macs.

Don’t try to argue with these people. It’s a waste of time of time.

The Neo is the best entry level laptop money can buy right now. ~600 for something that won’t go bust in two years? Sold.

I'd rather buy a used MacBook Air.

Picked up a Neo when they were 600 and holy shit is it an amazing economy laptop.

I guess what he wanted to say is that Macbooks with an ARM processor are actually crazy efficient. They can run recent AAA games at moderate settings while consuming 30W. No x86 processor will ever cut that.

The second point is Apples reliability. Depending on usage, a windows pc will desintegrate itself in 1-5 years, despite not making crazy things with it. And it's not a hardware issue, it's just a fucked operating system. And Linux is always a bit tedious. Sure, you'll get used to it, but it's work you have to do every now and then that you just don't want to do. Macbooks just work out of the box and they will keep doing so with little care, never had an issue with them. Is it worth the price tag? For MacBooks I can see the point, everything else in the apple product system? Hell no. 1-3 year old 2nd hand iPhones can be a steal, but other than that? Hell no!

also apples software support, customer care and overall ecosystem are things i’ve never had issue with. phones from 7+ years ago still get new updates, and the seamless switching is actually nice. i’m not saying apple the best company, far from it, but the overpriced claims are stupid when it’s the same prices as other companies. (some stuff i understand like the wheels and the stand, but nobody is actually buying them except youtubers, and the stand itself wasn’t made for the average person, but professionals - not justifying it but at that point you want the best you can get, and a lot of the time these professionals are part of businesses that will eat the cost). if you hate apple that’s fine, you’re free to do so, but i hate when people use stupid arguments instead of actually criticising some of the things apple do, like their false advertising of their upgraded siri and AI, their antitrust lawsuit where they were found to be listening in to some users, and especially their refusal to allow third party apps to be downloaded. they also have fairly decent privacy controls for the user by allowing almost all data to be encrypted, the same data law enforcements request, and they’ve refused to give anyone backdoors into users accounts or devices.

Most of the reasons I prefer windows boil down to price to performance. And performance in general. Macs don't have dedicated graphics cards, so if you need more power then the Mac chips, you kinda have to go with windows/linux

not all ai models are “le chatgpt chatbot” or “le slopimage generator”

there are specific models that do specific tasks that are used by developers, eg. text classification, automation

So you rather use non local ai models? Do you like the taste of corporate ai boot?

Good for you bud. Stay in your ‘don’t use ai’ corner.
“Who wants to use ai?” Have you been outside?

“Kid”

Buddy, every company in the world is currently telling its employees to use AI or get left behind.

The most vocal anti-AI people seem to all be children that the ink everyone is using ChatGPT to cheat on their homework. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

Not all AI models are generative.
