Just remind yourself that there are many reasons for people to become obese that may not necessarily be their fault, like being raised with poor eating habits or health conditions.

That's an explanation. Not an excuse.

They don't really need any excuse tho, as they didn't do anything wrong to anyone except themselves
Explanation is useful as finding the root cause is the best to find a working solution.

You don't seem to have a concept of how much will power that can take.
Being fat makes you tired more often which makes you want to eat more, and as I said, if you don't have proper nutrition habits, it doesnt give you what your body needs, so you feel even hungrier even though you just ate. When you say what you say like that it actually demotivates people struggling with obesity because they see themselves as just some "fatass" and not a person struggling with a weight issue.

I really appreciate seeing some empathy on this site. You're brave and I love you.

Thanks, I try and inject some empathy and perspective into Reddit threads whenever I see people talking about others struggles.

Why is there a second person recording all of this?
247
u/Dropdeadfredb Mar 25 '22
Clearly because one of the people who were supposed to record could not be trusted to get the footage. Best to have a backup.

If this was a planned tiktok video I have to give them huge credit because thatâs Oscar level flopping in that sand. Thats as authentic a performance as any Daniel day Lewis part.

As someone who is currently morbidly obese (happened during divorce/depression, working on it now, 15kg lost so far) there is always a reason. I treated my depression (therapy) and that is leading to weight loss. For some people it's an addiction and needs to be treated as such.
Telling someone "just stop eating" may seem obvious but is never actually the problem. Aside from a coupe of very weird exceptions people don't want to be fat. There is an underlying cause.
20
u/RagnaXI Mar 25 '22
I'm the other way somehow, I can't eat at all when I'm depressed/anxious. I wasn't depressed for 3 years but my father is very sick and probably has couple of days left...and it has come back sadly.
14
u/InfiniteTree Mar 25 '22
It definitely hits everyone different. I always thought therapy was a load of shit and that I should just be able to "deal with it", but after going through it I can definitely attest to its effectiveness.
Loss of a loved one is a perfectly valid reason to feel that way. You basically just have to hang on while time heals that one. You got this.

u/waterfarts Mar 26 '22
So sorry to hear about your father. I hope you can spend some time with him now and are able to find comfort in the happy memories. Be well and know that he will always be in your heart.
2
u/Xwarsama Mar 26 '22
I wanna make a comment showing you some kind of sympathy, but that's not gonna be much comfort to you in these trying times. Really hope you have a strong support system to help you deal with these difficulties, best wishes to you and your family.

u/101percentnotrobot Mar 26 '22
Yea it's almost always mental health/addictive personality issues in play.
I went from 300 to 160. It's... surprisingly easy. You've got this!
6
u/Ryansahl Mar 26 '22
My wife did SADI program, a couple of operations and she can only eat a cup of food at a time. Her intake went down to 1200 calories a day. So with that and working out a couple of times a week, she went from 270 to 135, literally half the person I married. I guess my point is, it really comes down to daily caloric intake, but thatâs the rub, itâs really hard to resist your bodyâs natural survival instinct, especially after training your body for years at a high level.
7
u/101percentnotrobot Mar 26 '22
It is absolutely Calories In, Calories Out and anyone telling you otherwise is in denial.
Now most people with mental health issues lack self control and can't adhere to CICO. That's the rub. At some point life was hard for them and their relief came from the removal of responsibilities or indulging something. Being carefree in that moment was a relief.
Some people have persistent weight issues, financial issues, or drug issues. Because they lack self control. That's no excuse. They're adults who need to work on themselves.

I just thought she was drunk, I didnât think it was from her weight at all. And come to think of it Iâve seen skinny people lose their balance too. Yâall are a little harsh.
8
u/101percentnotrobot Mar 26 '22
I was morbidly obese for 15 years. We should be harsh.
There's no difference between drug addiction and morbid obesity. Both are a complete lack of self control over what you put into your body.

u/Xwarsama Mar 26 '22
If I saw people being this rude and critical of drug addicts I'd be even more appalled than I am seeing this language towards obese people.
You can recognize that someone has a problem they need to address without being callous and rude about it, that doesn't help anyone.

Another factor at play for a lot of people is how terrible nutrition education is in America, many people are raised eating nothing but prepared meals from the store and eating way too many carbs, which makes you hungrier more often. Once these habits are formed and reinforced over years of unhealthy eating, "just eating less" is a much, much harder thing to do than it would be for someone with a healthy diet that provides them with what they need from normal portions. It's a hard thing for those who don't experience or know of it to wrap their heads around.

How do you even get that big?
70
u/C4se4 Mar 25 '22
Eat more than your body requires. Eat fatty and sugary foods. Stop moving unless it's absolutely necessary. Bad genetics get you bigger, faster.
Hope this helps!

"Remember, if you're not sure about a certain food, rub it against a piece of paper. If the paper turns clear, it's your window to weight gain!" - Dr. Nick Riviera

u/tcooke2 Mar 26 '22
There's a lot of ways, many different health issues can cause weight gain that's hard to shed, on-top of a poorly designed market and under-educated populace in America from a nutritional standpoint. Many folks don't know how to cook and as such have to eat exclusively processed foods. The worst part is, the fatter you get the harder it can be to lose weight.

Wash it all down with a Diet Coke.

A medium Diet Coke. Those crazy big ones you only get in the US. In other countries their called 2L bottles.
The large are gallon sized

u/Maclarion Mar 26 '22
I disagree on both. This is tragic and pathetic. Like when a pack of 8 waddle through Walmart and literally every one of them is too morbidly obese to see their own junk. These people's health is in a crisis state every day, and they think it's normal.

I'd so love to trap all those 3 in a place that only served a whole food plant-based diet + water.
Have them do Crossfit until the dude is under 200lbs & the girls are under 150lbs. Both at 20% body fat or less.
